WCS WLAN Override Mismatch

Our wireless network has gone through several changes over the past year. We now only have 3 wlans. I usually created AP templates and enable WLAN override to select which APs get which wlans. WCS does not however seem to be updating with the WLCs. My only options are 3 wlans which no longer exist. I've tried restarting the service and rebooting the server. I've also tried building new templates but no luck. Anyway to get WCS to rebuild this list from the wlcs?
I'm using v 4.1.91.0,
Caveat for 4.0.100.0
CSCse42296-If a template for a given WLAN profile exists in WCS and WLAN is modified out of the band of the controller, the template is not updated to reflect the new settings.
Workaround: Make any desired changes to the WLAN settings in WCS and then apply them to the controllers.
Seems to be my problem though. I am unaware of how to change wlan settings through WCS however.

Solved, I actually had to go into my WLC's, delete all WLANs, then go back into WCS and rebuild them under the controller template section.

  • WCS WLAN Override

    Hello,
I have a WCS with version 4.0.97.0 and two controllers with version 4.0.217.0. and two models APs: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 and AIR_LAP1131AG-E-K9.
The problem is that I am unable to configure the templates WCS WLAN Override.
I can set the controllers but when I try to sync through the WCS => Controller Commands => Configuration Commands => Refresh Config from Controller, it does not work fine and it deletes or change the WLAN Override.
What can I do? An upgrade?

    Hi,
updating maybe solve your issue but when you upgrade to a version beyond 5.x "WLAN Override" is no longer supported, I think.
You have to use "AP-Groups" to override to default setting.
This works perfect for me (Using WCS 5.2.130.0)

  • WLAN override ::: how to use it smart?

All, I have an existing WLAN with more than 100APs. I now want to add one guest-WLAN SSID to four APs.
Now, as I understand the procedure I would need to do the following:
    1. define the new SSID globally and enabled it
    2. go manually to all the remaining 96 APs and use WLAN override to diable the new guest network where it should not be.
Is there any other way which could save me from modifying 96 APs by hand?

If you have WCS and are using LWAPP you can just make a template for WLAN override and apply it to the APs you wish to modify.
I'm not sure if you can use a template without WCS, though- I haven't tried.

  • WLAN override option not available for WLC 4402 - 6.0.196.

    Hi All,
Its kind of weird BUT it seems that the option for WLAN override is missing.u.
I could find it on the lower version BUT not on the 6.0.196.
    Please help.
Does this mean I could only set it up via the WCS and not the WLC directly.
    Thank you.
    Warmest Regards,

    Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for the clarification.
    Thanks again.

  • WLAN OVERRIDE FEATURE

Dear all, I have deployed WiSM to my customer place where there are 9 floors in the building & has got 270 Aps throuout the building. Now customer is asking me to broadcast the non-broadcasted SSID to a particular floor. Any body has any clue ? I have tried with WLAN override but it does not work. I hope u have got it, actually client ssid is not broacasted througout the building now customer is asking this ssid to be broadcasted to specific area.
now either i hv to enable this ssid for broadcast on controllers & on each Aps I have to disable this ssid except Aps where I want this ssid to be broadcasted. Only 5 Ap are there on which this ssid should be broadcasted. If I use wlan override feature then I have to go to 265 AP & disbale that ssid for not broadcasting which very time consuming job & not scalable also. Do u know any other way to achieve this.
    Thanks
    NK

    Hi NK,
The most popular way to mitigate the problem of having to access each AP individually (when using WLAN Override) is to use WCS Templates for common requirement AP's. This way the WLAN Override function can be applied at the Template level and then pushed out to the various groups.

  • WLC 6 WLAN Override problem

works function WLAN Override in controller WLC6?, we have tried it and it does not work, is a software problem?

    Professorguy,
Does having to match profile name to SSID name result in not being able to have multiple authentication methods per SSID? That was supposed to be a feature of 4.0.206.
    Thanks,

  • Deleting WLAN on H-REAP APs with WLAN Override requires AP reboot

Interesting problem here - wonder if anyone can comment on causes etc.
We have a number of H-REAP access points - the WLC 4404 is on a remote site (APs are 1242AGs). These APs are using WLAN override to braodcast only one of the WLANs on the controller.
We added another unencrypted WLAN because we were having problems and this was one thread in getting to the root of them (the WLAN was protected by MAC filtering).
When you apply WLAN override the APs need to be rebooted. And of course when you add another SSID to the WLAN override you need to reboot them again.
What took us by surprise was that on *removing* the unencrypted WLAN at the end of testing the APs also needed to be rebooted.
Nowhere in the documentation did it say this (of course) - but I suppose in retrospect of course it was necessary - just wish that we had figured it out sooner - took a customer's warehouse down for a couple of hours.
So the question is - why do you need to reboot the APs when you *remove* a WLAN that is applied by WLAN override?
Thoughts (apart from the obvious one of "well why didn't you think that it was the reverse of adding a WLAN"). Why should removing one take the whole AP down and disable the other WLANs being broadcast?
    Thanks

I feel it happens for to commit your changes and to cause the access point to reboot.
Take a look here. It may help

  • AP group vs WLAN override interface priority

    Hi,
    SW version 4.2.207.0
Which interface(VLAN ID) of SSID has priority while AP is configured with WLAN override?
One configured in AP group or one configured in WLAN SSID.
    Example:
LAP1 is in AP group with SSID1 to interface VLAN2 mapping
WLAN SSID1 has mapping to interface VLAN3
LAP1 has WLAN override enable for SSID1.
Clients connected to LAP1 will be in VLAN2 or VLAN3?
    Thanks for clarifying.

clients will be connecting to VLAN3. WLAN overrides what WLAN needs to be enabled/broadcasted on specific AP while AP group overrides WLAN to VLAN mappings.

    Configuring WLAN Override
By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted, or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.
    Configuring Access Point Groups
In a typical deployment, all users on a WLAN are mapped to a single interface on the controller. Therefore, all users associated with that WLAN are on the same subnet or VLAN. However, you can override this default WLAN setting to distribute the load among several interfaces or to group users based on specific criteria such as individual departments (for example, marketing) by creating access point groups (formerly known as site-specific VLANs). Additionally, these access point groups can be configured in separate VLANs to simplify network administration

  • How can I apply existing WCS "WLAN Config" templates to a new WLC?

We've been running a pair of WLC 4402s managed by WCS, thus we are still on the older 7.0.235.0 (WCS) / 7.0.235.3 (WLC) release. I'm trying to add an additional WLC 4402-50 as a hot spare. I first ran the manual setup steps to give it an IP in our range, and used the WLCs web page to set our SNMP communities and such to the values used by our existing WLCs, then I added the new WLC in WCS.
At this point I could apply most of the "Controller Templates" from our existing configuration to the new unit. However, I can not get it to take our existing interfaces nor our WLAN Configurations. How do I avoid needing to recreate these from scratch on the new WLC?
We only have four dynamic interfaces, and each WLC needs its own IP address for each interface, so I did manually add these via the WLCs web page. However, now when I go to the WCS' "Configure > Contoller Templagte Launch Pad" page, then select "WLANs > WLAN Configuration", I see my usual list of WLANs, but can't figure how to push them to the new WLC.
For all of the other templates on the launch pad, I can select a template, click the "Apply to Controllers..." button, and I get a list that has my existing two and also the new controller. I can select the new controller, and apply the template, and it succeeds.
Yet if I select a specific WLAN config, and press "Apply to Controllers...", the list that appears has only my existing two WLCs, not the the new one.
In small green type at the top it says, "Controllers configured with Interface/Interface Group - 'w-restricted'  and selected RADIUS server(s), LDAP servers, ACL Name with rules and  Ingress interface are shown."
I have already manually added the interface "w-restricted" to the new controller, and have added the RADIUS servers via the template used by our other two WLCs. Not sure what to do about "LDAP servers, ACL Name with rules and  Ingress interface", as we don't have any ACL rules, nor use LDAP directly from the WLCs (as all user ID stuff is via RADIUS).
Any hints on what manual setup I should add to get the new WLC in the list for these WLAN Configs?
    Thanks,
    Steve

To be honest, if your only adding another WLC, your better off creating the interface and WLAN's manually. I don't like pushing out templates to create new WLAN's. I would use it to adjust an existing WLAN, but that would be it. To me it's safer. Also your new WLC is on the same code? If you really want to figure it out, I would manually add the interfaces first then refresh the co fog from the new WLC and then push out the WLAN SSID and see if it takes. If not, don't waste your time anymore and create it manually.

  • WCS - WLAN Scheduled task issue

I am using WCS to control our 5508 wireless appliance. We currently have 2 WLANS that are active..One of them is a guest WLAN that
I use 2 scheduled tasks. One task is to disable this WLAN every night after 6pm and the other task is used to re-enable the WLAN at 6am every morning.
When it works it works well. However over the last 2 months there has been at least 3 - 4 times where WCS does not re-enable this Guest WLAN..which of course causes ALOT of support calls to be placed.  I upgraded WCS to latest version..Any ideas on what could be causing this issue ?
    Cheers
    Dave

Thanks for the input everyone...I tried adding a 2nd re-enable task 10 mins later and that didnt work..So after doing a bit of looking around..I noticed I could view the history for each task and it shows me the success or failure with a description of why it failed..Looks like I am losing connectivity to the 5508 controller from the WCS server when the task tries to run. Right now I am trying to find out when the WCS server is being backed up..its possible that the backups are happening at the same time and are affecting this process.
    More to follow

  • WCS WLAN template interface fields

    Hi,
I am currently working on WCS. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me clarification on the following when creating a WLAN template on a WCS.
    Under the General Tab -
    - Interface
    - Egress Interface
    - Ingress Interface

In WCS software release 4.0.96.0 and later releases, you can configure multiple WLANs with the same SSID. This feature enables you to assign different Layer 2 security policies within the same wireless LAN. To distinguish among WLANs with the same SSID, you need to create a unique profile name for each WLAN.

  • WCS AP Templates help. Vlan Override Issue

    Hi all,
    WCS ver 5.2.110.0
When I create a LWAP template, to apply a WLAN override to all my APs, the WLAN I'm looking for is not in the list. Previous WLANs are listed, that are no longer resident on the WLC4404. The current WLAN configured in the WLC does not show up in the list.
I've removed and re-added the WLC a few times to no avail.
Anyone with WCS experience ever see this issue?

    Hi Wayne,
    One thing to consider is that is WLC 5.x versions, WLAN Override has been replaced with the "AP Groups" feature;
    Creating Access Point Groups
After all access points have joined the controller, you can create up to 150 access point groups and assign up to 16 WLANs to each group. Each access point advertises only the enabled WLANs that belong to its access point group. The access point does not advertise disabled WLANs in its access point group or WLANs that belong to another group.

  • Problem audit mismatch WCS/WLC for local net user

    HI,
I have a problem in my WCS the audit status is mismatch for my two controllers. When I see the details of the mismatch, it is said that all my 400 users are "not present in controller".
However, I checked directly on my web interface of my controllers and my users are there (Security--> AAA--> Local Net Users). I've also checked on the WCS (ConfigureàControllersà controlerà Security à AAA -> local net user).
In both My users are present and are identical.
When i refresh config from controllers on the WCS it disappears but a week after the mismatch comes back.
    If anyone can help, Thanks
    Alex

Anyone able to answer this one?
We are having the same issue.  We had WLC code 7.0.116.0 with WCS giving us mismatches on certain thresholds, despite the fact that the controller and the WCS configs were a match and no one made changes.  We would refresh confgi from controller and a week later, the mismatch was back.  It's as if there was something wrong with the WCS database.  We upgraded to NCS 1.1 and are now on WLC code 7.0.230.0 and it worked for a while, but we are now randomly experiencing the same issues and then some with NCS.
We have a multi-tenant campus that has several of another organizations access points configured as friendly in NCS, but the controllers still had them as rogue and were containing them.  We are also experiencing a max client count threshold that is set to 20 on the controller, but NCS is now reverting back to the default 12 value and giving off a mismatch.  I don't know if there is a SQL issue with the database or not, but we service roughly 3000 users on a 5 million sq. ft. campus and some of these mismatches and failure to identify critical mismatches is starting to become a problem.  Going to open a TAC case, but if anyone has any insight in the mean time, that would be helpful.  Thanks!

  • WLAN Identifier

I have this issue where i have two wism's with the same amount of WLAN's and the same names: 15 to be exact.  The problem i'm having is that the WLAN identifier is different between the two wism's even though there are the same amount and the same name WLAN's.  I'm not sure if this causing me to have problems when applying a template for WLAN override through WCS because sometimes the change does not take effect.  Is there anyway to change the WLAN identifier number?

If u make it untagged then specify the NATIVE vlan on the switchport..
If u tag the management interface, then dont configure the native vlan on the switchport..
Both the cases u will be able to access!!
Lemme know if this answered ur question!!

  • Limit SSID Broadcasts with WCS or WLC

Is it possible to limit which SSID's particular AP's broadcast? I've tried using AP Groups, but that only segments the VLAN broadcast domain. The AP still broadcasts all SSID's. I have 2 APs in a jury waiting room - I only want to broadcast their SSID, not the all the others (confusing for them). Does anyone know how to do this? We're using a 4400 series WLC in this building and version 5.0.56 of WCS.

    Hi Bill,
You will want to look into this. The feature you are looking for is called WLAN Override :)
    Enabling WLAN Override
By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008076cbfd.html#wp1114777
Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.
**Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.
Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.
    From this good doc;

The most popular way to mitigate the problem of having to access each AP individually (when using WLAN Override) is to use WCS Templates for common requirement AP's. This way the WLAN Override function can be applied at the Template level and then pushed out to the various groups.
