WCS/WLC Disabled WLAN still broadcasts! BUG?

Versions 6.0.182.0 on controllers (4 WISMs) and 6.0.132.0 on WCS.
Created a test WLAN which was used for a week or so, WPA2/PSK, broadcast ssid, standard stuff. I no longer wish to use it and set the enabled state in the template to disable and then saved and applied the template to the controllers. On various devices, I can still see it broadcasting! I have even checked on the individual controllers and the WLAN is set disabled, so no WCS sync issue. I also tried switching the broadcast ssid to off and reapplying it and this makes no difference.
If I try to connect to the WLAN, this fails, which is obviously a good thing! I have not tried to delete it yet as there are situations where we need the ability to enable/disable wlans.
Anybody else seen this issue before I report it to TAC?

If the WCS and WLC has been synchronized, you should not see this issue. Since you have already verified and ruled out a sync issue, this looks like a bug.

  • WCS used to configure SSID broadcast for WLAN issue

    Hi,
When I try to disable the broadcast parameter for an SSID on a WLC using WCS (4.0.96.0), I am running in to some issues.
I uncheck the 'Broadcast SSID' check box for a particular SSID and then submit the change. But, after I submit, the check box is still checked. If I verify the setting on the native WLC web interface, the Broadcast SSID parameter is still enabled.
I can change other parameters OK, so I don't have an SNMP issue.
If you perform this operation from the WLC web interface or the command line, you have to disable the WLAN first, before the SSID broadcast can be switched off.
I suspect that WCS doesn't have the intelligence to disable and re-enable the WLAN to perform this operation. But, it very frustrating that it doesn't even generate a warning or failure message to say that the operation has failed.
Anyone seen this or can perhaps tell me if I am mis-operating WCS in some way ?
    Thanks.

The WLANs tab allows you to create, configure, and delete WLANs on your controller.
You can access the following pages from the WLANs menu bar selection:
    WLANs
    WLANs > New
    WLANs > Edit
    WLANs > Mobility Anchors

  • Disabled SSID Broadcast, but it's still broadcasting

OK, here's a wierd one. I was able to finally disable my SSID broadcast the other day. But I noticed that it is still broadcasting. I rechecked the configurations twice. Any idea why it's still broadcasting even though I set it up to NOT broadcast?

    Did you change your SSID?
    Or using default SSID (linksys)?
    Try...
    - Reset Router
    - Change SSID  > save
    - Check wireless connection
    - Disable SSID broadcasting > save
    - Run 'Site survey' (or 'View available wireless networks' on Win XP)
Is your NEW SSID still detected?

  • Antenna type in WCS / WLC

Hello, I am still somewhat new to the wireless side and I saw something today while trying to troubleshoot a wireless issue we were having that I have not heard or read about from my CCNA Wireless studies. I noticed that the antenna types our WCS is showing attached to my APs are wrong.
My question is, do the APs / WCS / WLC know what type of antenna is connected to the APs automatically or is this a manual process that someone should assign them? The second question is, if it is a manual process (which I suspect it will be) can I change it without disrupting current connections or should I wait until a maintenance window to do this?
We have 3502e AP with AIR-ANT-1728 and AIR-ANT-5150V-R antennas attached to them, but my WCS says they have the rubber duckies on them. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

There is no way the WLC even knows what antennas you have. If your using antennas besides the rubber ducks then you need to define that on WCS. If you have Cisco antennas, there is a drop list of the antennas. You also have to make sure of the antenna orientation. This is all defined in the WCS user guide.
    Note
If you have a ceiling-mounted AP with an integrated omni-directional antenna, the antenna orientation does not really need to be set in WCS. However, if you mount that same AP on the wall, you must set the antenna orientation to 90 degrees.

  • Just installed CS6 and trying to update, Windows 8.1 tried disabling security still not updating. Version 13.0 any suggestions ? Thank you

Just installed CS6 and trying to update, Windows 8.1 tried disabling security still not updating. Version 13.0 any suggestions ? Thank you

Once in awhile, they do have bug fixes for CS6. The only thing I can think of that was an upgrade for CS6 was a newer version of camera raw. For now they are allowing CS6 to have the latest version of camera raw, but when they are done with supporting CS6, I imagine that will be the last of the upgrades. I don't know of any dates, but I heard it wasn't for a long time if at all. So I guess we will all have to wait and see.
As for getting updates, I think you will like the manager. It makes it much easier. Frankly I didn't know the manager worked on the perpetual license. I knew it worked on the subscription. So it is good to know that it works for you as well.

  • WLC(s): are "forwarding" broadcast pkts when I don't want them to.

The symptom is whenever a wireless clients generates a broadcast packet the WLCs pick it up and send it(capwap encapsulated) to each and every AP(Unicast) in every building.  Such that a single client broadcast packet causes our WLCs to generate 1000 separate packets.
We have multiple buildings(20) connected by VPN's over cable modems. Each building has ~25+ APs all set to Flex-Connect and local switching. Back here at central we have several 5508 WLCs.
    We have broadcast forwarding disabled.
    Show Network Summary
    Ethernet Multicast Forwarding............... Enable
    Ethernet Broadcast Forwarding............... Disable
    IPv4 AP Multicast/Broadcast Mode............ Unicast
    IPv6 AP Multicast/Broadcast Mode............ Unicast
    IGMP snooping............................... Enabled
I'm calling these CAPWAP encapsulated packets "broadcasting forwarding" but I not sure that is the correct way to describe them.  Either way I'd like to understand what the packet are and can we make them stop.
The TOD(Theory Of the Day w/all due respect to Stephen H.) is that these unicasts to the APs are somehow related to Layer 3 mobility....

What is the WLC software version in this case ?
Refer this link & that explain WLC default behavior for wireless client's broadcast packets. It should not broadcast to other wireless clients/AP.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Mobility/emob73dg/emob73/ch2_Arch.html#pgfId-1058225
In your case, if you can take a wireshark capture of the AP connected switchport you can verify client broadcast is forwarding as it is or not. It is good if you can take OTA capture as well so you can confirm client sending broadcast traffic.

  • WLC 5508 - WLAN, changing the SSID ?

It doesnt seem I am able to change the SSID of an active or disabled wlan via the web interface ?

no you cannot change it, you need to delete the whole SSID and set it up again.

  • Can you disable the SSID broadcast without turning off WIFI?

Is there a way to disable the SSID broadcast without disabling WIFI altogether? Prior to the 4.3 IOS upgrade I could keep my WIFI enabled and when at home, the phone would automatically switch to my hi speed WIFI. The new upgrade now turns your phone into a WIFI/MYFI hotspot and broadcasts your phones SSID to the world.

Only if you have enabled and setup personal hotspot settings in your network settings, AND have the hotspot conneciton active AND are sharing the hotspot connection via wifi.
If you do not have Personal Hotspot features enabled or active, your iPhone is not broadcasting any network connection ID information, with or without wifi enabled.
P.S. according to the iOS release notes, even if you leave Hotspot active, it will stop broadcasting the SSID after a timeour with no connections, since the HotSpot feature turns off after a short timeout with no activity.

  • Disabling the SSID broadcasting on E3000.

Disabling the SSID broadcasting on E3000, is it necessary, if so what can expect to happen?

No it is not necessary.  In fact it will make it more difficult for your wireless devices to connect.  It does nothing for security.  Leave it enabled.

  • Disabled buttons still generate events

It seems that disabled buttons still generate events in business one. If a button is disabled (even a standard one) click events can still be seen in the SBO event logger. I would have expected a disabled button to be completely disabled and no events to be generated whereas as it is I have to check in the event handler to see if the button is enabled or not.
Is my understanding of this correct?
Has anyone else had issues like this?
    Gordon Wood

    Hi Gordon,
That sounds like an issue with the SBO Event Logger because no event is actually triggered in the addon when the button is disabled.
    Kind Regards,

  • WLC 5508 disable wlan client still connected

I have one wlc 5508 running on latest IOS 7.116, there is one wlan abc which i have disable status and disable broadcast, but randomly still i can see from wlc dashboard there is one client connected to this wlan abc. The moment i check on the client details, there is no client connected to that wlan and when return to dashboard, no more client connected to that wlan abc. This happened in randomly, it is bug or something else?

I would guess that the client entry also indicates "probing" as status. It means that the client is not connected. It is actually probing, so it"s looking for that SSID that it probably associated to in the past (so it remembers about it)

  • WLC 5508 - WLANs disabled after reboot

    Hi,
    I'm running 3 WLC 5508, 2 of them running image AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-116-0.aes, one AIR-CT5500-LDPE-K9-7-0-116-0.aes.
On the 5508 running the LDPE-image, I have 9 WLANs (170,171,180,181,190,191,281,282,283), all defined with admin status "ENABLED".
    WLANs 180,181,281 belong to a defined AP-group, WLAN 190,191,282 belong to a different AP-group.
WLANs 180,181,190,191 are defined as H-REAP. The H-REAP APs registers without any problems at the backup WLC and switches back successfully to the primary controller after recovering from reboot.
Unfortunately the WLANs 180,181,190,191 show status "DISABLED" every time the primary controller comes back and I have to enable them manually.
Doing exactly the same procedure with one of the other WLC, running AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-116-0, I never face this problem.
Has anyone faced something similar ? Any hints or tipps are very much appreciated

I would like to pick up the discussion again. I had to upgrade the 2 WLC's involved in the scenarion and the WLANs are staying enabled. The APs are registering in a perfect time at the secondary 5508 and so do the clients.
After the primary 5508 comes back the LWAPPs are registering back to that WLC seemless and so do the clients but sometimes (not always) not without loosing the connections for about 15 secs, which is unacceptable since the applications will drop.
We also get the following error-msg:
*Sep 12 13:39:05.598: %AAA-3-BADSERVERTYPEERROR: Cannot process authentication server type radius (UNKNOWN)
    *Sep 12 13:39:05.598: %DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: Station 0026.c730.88ae Authentication failed

  • [BUG?] N73 Flash Disabled but still working

HI there yesterday i noticed something weird,i disabled my nokia flash before taking photos but i noticed sometimes the flash worked eventhough i disabled it!
    Could this be a bug?
    N95-1
    Firmware - V 31.0.017

I was told that there is a requirement that a photo cannot be taken secretly using a phone, that means there has to be some form of indication that a photo is taken.
In your case even though flash is disabled, it only means the flash is not on when the shutter is closing but a flash is still activated either before or after the capture just to indicate that a photo is taken.
