WD My Passport Ultra 2TB not being recognised and crashes computer

Hi, I have my external Harddrive for about 1 1/2 year. It always worked fine. Last Thursday it stopped. Suddenly it wasn't recognised anymore and it slows down my computer until halt. And it stays like this until I remove the harddrive again. After I remove it the computer works fine again and I get a little popup from Windows that tells me "You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it." I don't want to format it, because I have lots and lots of data on that drive. I made a backup from my computer I formated for an upgrade and now - if I can't get the data recovered - they are all lost. I tried already the WD LifeGuard Diagnostics but my harddrive is not recognised at all, so I can't check of any faults. It is not recognised in the Diskmanagement either. Sometimes - very rarely though - I see under "Computers" in the Explorer "Local Disk" (no Drive number). I cross checked already with another cable, another computer and even another OS. No luck.I tried to register the drive for creating a RMA but there seems a problem on the WD Website.I don't want to give up that drive. Can please someone help me? Thank you in advance

This is a user forum, not a staff one. There aren't any WD staff here, at least in an official capacity. At best you'll only get WD support here if one of the mods escalates it to them, but you'll be quicker to do it yourself via the support portal.

Help - I am stuck in Afghanistan on operations and my iPad mini has died.
I tried to update the IOS as directed, there were a few error messages and I cancelled the process.
The ipad now only shows the connect to itunes screen and is not being recognised by the computer in either windows or itunes.
I have tried several resets and restarted the computer and reinstalled itunes.
Is there anything else I can do.

  • My Canon PIXMA MG2440 USB is not being recognised and I can not print anything..?

I cannot use my printer as the USB is saying its not recognised.
I never needed a driver for this printer before and it used to work fine.
I have no idea how to get my printer to work as I cant connect it to my laptop?

    Hi mrsrsimmo,
If the printer is not being recognized, please try connecting the printer to another USB port on your computer, and also use a different USB cable if you have one.  We also recommend installing the latest drivers and software for the printer.  Since you have the PIXMA MG2440, please click here to go to the Support and Downloads page on the Canon Europe website where you can download the drivers.
    Hope this helps!

when i plug my ipod touch into my computer nothing happens, my ipod doe not charge and wont sync.
i went on to my "devices and "printers section and my ipod was under "unspecified" it told me to troubleshoot it but when i did it said i haved a problem with PnP devices. it also said that windows would try to solve the problem but it didnt do anything and i still cant connect my ipod becuse it does not do anything, any advice?

Could the error number be: 0xE........?

any ideas please would be gratfeully received
    matt

I too have a 30GB 5G iPod that crashes my computer. It is not recognized by XP and is not recognized by iTunes either. I changed USB ports, tried the Updater (Updater never worked since the computer did not recognize the iPod), uninstalled/reinstalled iTtunes, rolled back the registry to several days earlier, disabled antivirus software, etc. I have so much practice resetting the iPod I can now do it blindfolded. I have also tried the iPod on another computer with exactly the same results, but an iPod Nano works flawlessly. There seems to be no other remedy except to send the thing back but the Apple phones are jammed and I can't get through.
A quick search of this forum shows many other similar problems with 5th genertion iPods. What a disappointing purchase!!

  • Ipod not being recognised, but with a twist

    Hi,
My ipod nano 5th Gen is not being recognised on my computer. It is now being recognised by the computer itself sometimes, but not itunes. However, when I plug my ipod into my partners laptop, its fine. More to the point, when they plug their's into my laptop, it recognises them. To me, this suggests that both my laptop and my ipod, individually at least, are working.
I have been through the ipod support page, and gone through all the steps, and to no avail.
Final details. I'm Windows 8, and my itunes is totally up to date. I have re-installed iTunes, and have reset my ipod to factory settings on another computer. It still doesn't work, please help if you know anything about this!!
    Cheers,
    Ralf

I have the same issues. itunes 5.0.1.4 doesn't recognize my mini. ipod updater doesn't recognize my mini either. i have uninstalled itunes 5 and reinstalled 4.9, but it didn't work still. something in itunes 5 changed something in my system that reinstalling 4.9 doesn't fix it. updater just shows that i have no ipod connected. if i try to get updater to check for my ipod during the updater installatin, it just sits there and says "waiting for ipod". it's not my usb port because i can read and write to my ipod. i did the entire list of chores that apple suggests on the site including disabling all other functions and services, reinstalling the com port, uninstalling everything, reinstalling everything, getting windows install clean up, e v e r y t h i n g! nothing worked.
I then installed itunes 4.9 and updater 1.4 in my other laptop. i was able to update to firmware 1.4 using that computer. when i put the ipod into that computer w/ itunes 4.9, everything works fine. of course, it asks me if i want to link that laptop w/ my ipod. i said no, because i want to use my original laptop w/ the ipod.
anybody have a solution for this? it's like we all have the same symptoms and going to the same doctor and we end up having to diagnose ourselves. this is extremely annyoying and inefficient.

  • IPhone 3G not charging and not being recognised by PC

I plugged my iPhone 3G into my laptop today to charge it, as the battery was extremely low and for some reason, it's not being recognised by my computer at all, and it's not charging at all.
I've tried plugging it into a powerpoint in the wall as well, and it still doesn't charge.
I plugged my iPod into my computer with the same USB cable, and it worked fine.
If I hold in the power button at the top, the battery picture comes up with a tiny bit of red in it and the power cable -> charge pictures come up underneath, then the screen just goes black again.
I've never had this problem before, so I'm not sure what to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem after the upgrade, but think I may have a solution. The problem doesn't seem to be that the phone isn't charging, it's that the indicator isn't showing that it has charged. Try this:
    1. Plug into the wall socket.
    2. Push and hold the power button, you should get a "slide to turn off" kind of message -- do it.
    3. Let the phone power off, and leave it that way for a slow count of ten.
    4. Turn it back on by pushing and holding the power button -- you'll get that black screen with the apple logo, don't panic, it just takes a minute to power up, you haven't lost anything.
When it came on, the indicator showed it was fully charged from the night before. My concern is that the indicator got hosed by the upgrade.
Try that out, let me know if it works -- and at your own risk. It worked for me as written, but I can't guarantee that will do the trick or not wipe your phone. I don't think so, it seems innocuous enough, just wanted to make sure you're aware there could be another resynch needed if it does do something else for you.

Hi, Our L750 - 15R CD/DVD drive is not being recognised in my computer, we have updated drivers and used Microsoft fix to no avail, we aren't getting any error messages.
Any help .would be most appreciated.

Delete the ODD in the device manager.
Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then restart the notebook and check if the CD/DVD drive would appear there.

  • IPod not being recognised in iTunes

    Hi all
I sold my iPod on eBay and, as far as I could tell, it was working perfectly when it was sent off. The buyer has sent it back to me claiming it wasn't being recognised in her iTunes and to my surprise it's now not being recognised in mine. I plug in the iPod and it charges through my Mac but does not become recognised in iTunes at all. Does anyone have any ideas as I am going to have to refund the buyer AND the iPod seems caput so it would be great if I could get it working one way or the other. Thanks so much in advance.

I tried what you suggested but it didn't seem to work for me. When i started the error check nothing happened, the bow for checking errors closed immideiatly after i clicked start. Did you do anythig else before checking the drive for errors, like put it in disk mode?
