WD Scorpio Black in MacBook Pro 13"

During the last two months my Macbook pro turned slow, so I found that the source of this trouble was the Hitachi stock HDD.
I Want to uprgrade my HDD to WD Scorpio Black, but I have read that 7200 rpm HDD have overheating, noise, etc. issues
is that true?
Recomendatiions accepted
PD: I will use it to run FCPX. Logic Adobe  etc...

I suggest you go to the OWC website and look at what is available.  They are Mac specialists and all of the 2.5" SATA HDDs will be compatible with you MBP.  Personally I suggest you put in the largest and fastest you can afford for maximum performance.  I have a 750GB 7200 rpm Seagate.  There will be others who are advocates of other brands.  OWC will stand behind the wares they sell, so its hard to go wrong with any of the choices available.
Ciao.

  • Black screen Macbook Pro 2010

Still having problem with my macbook pro (MacBookPro6,2) black screen time after time when using Lion didn´t help with the grafic bug fix.
Had to go back to Snow Leopard again.
    Are many having those problems?

I sent them some crashreports and did the hardwaretest 3 times. The hardwaretest says that nothing is wrong. The support says i must leave it to Apple for morse tests! :-(
I reinstalled Lion clean 4 times. Same chit.
What i did? I reinstalled Snow Leopard. And now its working without any problems.
I will probably test Lion again in a few mounth, and hope them have found some softwarefixes.

  • Black display macbook pro with HDMI connection

Hi I connected my macbook pro 15" to a samsung 24" display with HDMI moshi adapter.
Sometimes both display (samsung and MB) became black and I can't turn it on even if I disconnect my adapter. The only way is to turn off the macbook pro .
    Here it's my problem log.
    Thanks for your help!

  • TS4088 Screen keeps blacking out Macbook pro 13'

Just got this little macbook this week and the screen keeps shutting down after a while (not sure how long exactly but usually around 30mins). I changed the settings to make sure it doesn't sleep ever yet after 30mins or so screen goes black and i have to close the screen and open it again and type my password and stuff. Anyone know why this is happening? I heard of this happening to other people with the macbook pro 15 but mine is the 13 and same thing seems to be happening.

Have you tried resetting the SMU?
Have you tried resetting the PRAM?

  • While in traget disk mode to fix a black screen Macbook pro,  I trashed my boot from system library...oops - it trashed the working mac file and now I have no ability to open my trash to regain it... I do have an Imac, and connecting cable.

I trashed a system window boot file while in target disk mode: attempting to repair a black screen in macbook pro A,  it removed the file from working macbook pro B.  Now I can't open the trash to regain it.  I have an Imac, and can set up target disk mode, but am not sure where to go from here.. Help!

So, next I used Target mode...saw the HD icon on my IMac display and "loaded" Yosemite back onto the Macbook Pro, I thought, but no!  it loaded it onto my Imac -  so, had to wait til that was done to continue....next day...I decided to try command-R w/startup, recovery mode,  and use wifi to reload Yosemite onto my Macbook Pro, because I didn't want to go deeper into the issue - just wanted my computer working again.
    That worked, of course.
Thank you for your help - I always learn a lot on this site.

  • Macbook 2.2 (black) Vs Macbook Pro 2.0

Hi, I've just purchased a 2nd hand Macbook Pro 2.0 to temporarily replace my Macbook 2.2 whilst it's away being fixed (cracked at the edges, as normal!)
I believe the MBP is an early 2006 model whilst the MB is a late 2007.
My question is, will I notice much of a difference in performance over and above that expected by the different RAM in the machines? (The MBP has 2g of ram and the MB 4g)
Also, anyone know if the MBP can take 4g of RAM?
I guess, the only other question is, once the MB is back repaired I'll be selling on of them, which would you keep? Bearing in mind the MB still has 14months Apple Care left on it.
    Thanks.

Thanks to the last two posters for useful replies.
I'm told that the Macbook, with a Core Duo 2 processor, will be running Snow Leopard in 64b, whilst the MBP only 32. Now all this is above my head a bit, but is that statement true, and if so, what is the real world difference?
To add some more info, my use is not intensive. Usual office stuff, email, website tinkering, surfing, that sort of thing. The most intensive stuff I'd be doing is editing photos in RAW using iPhoto and creating website adverts and banners using Photoshop, typically with 10-20 layers.
Jason does raise a question that has been going round in my head, just how much better in terms of build quality is the newer stuff? I need a workhorse, not something that is light/sleek/shiny. Has the build quality on the newer Macs been dropped to get the RRP's down?
And another thing, the MBP is nearly two years older than the MB, I know the previous owner and it's been well looked after, but what is the typical shelf life of a MBP? It's nearly four years old, time to retire it or plenty of life in the old dog?
I know the shelf life of the MB's is not great, I'm on my third now, all have suffered case cracking, with a year warranty left maybe now is the time to sell it?
I'm getting the MBP later today so will run some comparison tests, of course all this might be pointless once I see the 15" screen (did I mention the MBP is a 15" model?) I'm a sucker for big screens

  • External monitor goes black when macbook pro has magsafe connected

    Hi,
I have bought an external monitor about 1 week ago, and I have it connected with a minidisplay to dvi cable, and a dvi cable to the monitor.
It was working OK -well, it had some sudden flash to black screen that lasted about 1 second, but nothing else- until thir morning when it just started showing a black screen. Mac OS sees the monitor, and I can move windows over there, etc. It's "alive". But I only see a black screen on the monitor.
I tested with other computer, and it works OK. The cables work too.
What I discovered is that if I unplug the power adaptor from the MBP the monitor screen shows correctly.
It works OK only if the magsafe adaptor is unplugged from the MBP, it doesn't care if the magsafe adaptor is plugged to the power or not; only if it's connected to the mac book pro.
It seems like some magnet stuff is making a mess there. What could it be? I can't work on the monitor only in battery power...
I tried resetting nvram and the other stuffs that I found here, but nothing works.
    Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro to 20" Cinema with Bootcamp = main screen?

    I have a 20" Cinema Display and a late 2008 black/silver Macbook Pro.
I am thinking of going bootcamp with Windows XP and use the external adaptor and 20" cinema as my main screen.
Will this become my "main screen"?
Or will the Windows task bar and menu etc all still be on the laptop screen? - and can i close this so i dont have to look at the laptop? - I just want my main screen to be the 20" Cinema
    Thanks

  • I have a MacBook Pro with no DVD drive (Remote Install-ish issue)

1 MacBook Pro sans DVD, blank HD.
1 MacBook Pro with DVD, under Lion.
    1 Firewire cable.
1 Leopard / Snow Leopard install DVD.
Can I install SL on my old MBP using the DVD on my new MBP via FW ?

    My apologies for writing gibberish.
I thought this was a more common issue, as I have read a lot about DVD drive sharing and Remote Install but I am not able to find a straight answer to my very simple situation.
I have one old MacBook Pro that I bought the year 2006. It's the one sporting the Silver keyboard. The DVD drive is Broken (yes, there's a third option smarty pants. ). The Hard Drive in here is Erased.
I have a new (not retina drive not yet) 2011 MacBook Pro with the Black Keyboard. It came with Snow Leopard preinstalled. Afterwards I installed Lion from the app store, and much afterwards I fabricated a Bootable-Lion-Installer-USB thingy and installed it again.
Remote Install is Gone on Lion. They say the only option was firewire so I go and buy the firewire and it's still not straightforward. They say just click on the installer and choose the firewire Hard Drive (MacBook Pro) as destination. If I click on the installer it just tells me Leopard cannot overwrite Lion, which I already know.
So my original question was, trying (and failing miserably) to avoid all danger: If it is possible to install Leopard (The OS that comes in the black and purple hollographic box with a big X) using the Install DVD inserted into the DVD drive of my new 2011 Black keyboard MacBook Pro with a Bootable-USB installed Lion OS connected with a 6 pin to 9 pin FireWire cable to an old MacBook Pro bought the year 2006 with a Silver keyboard and a broken DVD drive and which by the way has the hard drive already erased.
And if it is, How can it be achieved.

  • Can i use an WD Scorpio Black 750GB in my Macbook pro late 2007 ver 3.1 ??

    Hi everybody
Just wondering of I would run into problems installing an WD Scorpio Black 750GB in my Macbook pro late 2007 ver 3.1. 2.6Ghz.
Already have 2 500GB installed in RAID but need more space and want to upgrade but someone told me that this MBP ver 3.1 only supports max 500GB drives......
    Is that true??
    Thanks
    Uffe / Lobojuan

If the hard drive is 9.5mm thick any SATA hard drive can be used.
A few may require jumpers if they are higher than 1.5Gbps in data speed.
Only 17" MacBook Pros of that generation could take 12.5mm thick drives.
The capacity is not normally the limit anymore, it is the thickness and data path speeds that make a difference. Also your machine supports external SATA drives that are 3.5" with this adapter:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/EXP34SATA2P1/
These drives are faster than any internal, ethernet, or Firewire drives you can add to your machine.

  • Will a 2010 13" macbook pro support a 7200rpm Western Digital 500gb Scorpio Black?

  • WD Scorpio Black 750 GB works in my 08 Macbook but not my 09 Macbook Pro?, WD Scorpio Black 750 GB works in my 08 Macbook but not my 09 Macbook Pro?

Anyone know why the drive mentioned works fine but a little loud in my Macbook aluminum 13" but when I put in my Macbook Pro 15" I boot to the Apple logo and the spinning wheel spins for 10-15 minutes or more before I give up.  I have re and re'd them twice with the same result.  The 250 GB Hitachi drive that was in the MBP works in either one, it has snow leopard and the 750 has Lion on it, but I don't think that should matter?
I tried resseting the Pram and couldn't think of any thing else to do.
    Thanks
    R.

I don't think that should matter?
It depends on where the software came from.
If you had Snow Leopard installed and upgraded to Lion, the claim Apple makes is that you will then have a "Everybody" Lion, good for any Mac that can run Lion.
If you have a Mac that shipped with Lion, you have a "Custom" Lion, good only for that model of computers.
    Does that help at all?

  • Macbook Pro Retina blacks out for a few seconds at a time

I have a new (2-3 weeks) Macbook Pro 13" retina display. A few times since I've had it, the screen went black for about 10 seconds and then came back. Any idea what's up with this? Is this something to return the machine for, or is a software issue? Has anyone else had this happen?
    Thanks!
    Stacey

  • Display Problem on MacBook Pro 13-In:  red blotch when screen is dark/black

I've been having a really weird problem:  a red blotch near the center of my screen, visible if the screen is black, or dark background in video playback.  It's about an inch off center (right) and it look like a "T" made by a paint brush stroke.  When it first appeared (in the same spot to the left of center), Apple replaced the display (in the last year of Apple Care), and it disappeared.  It reappeared 4 weeks later as clear lines (in the same spot).  They replaced the display again, and it disappeared once again.  It happened a third time 4 months after that, and they replaced the logic board as well as the display; again, "fixed."  Here's the weirdest part:  because, after all this, the computer would not charge, they threw up their hands and gave me a brand new MacBook Pro. That was a month ago, and last night, there was the red blotch again (except now, again, just to the right of center).
I can't find anything like this (online) happening to anyone else, and so far Apple hasn't determined what they think the problem is.  I sort of feel now the problem must lie with me.  But what could I be doing?  I haven't dropped it; I'm just using it for email and reading online.
Anyone have any idea what this might be?  Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions.

I can only do wild guesses at this popint, only thing I can think of on your end is possible AC power problems, but I've not been impressed with Apple's quality since the 68K or Beige days.
THe iMac7,1 I'm on now needed repair 3 times & still scares me with it's PSU temps.

  • My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??
