WD Smartware Compatible Mac?

I am borrowing a 500GB WD Smartware external HD from my friend because I am backing up my computer.
I have opened the external HD and viewed the files on me iMac before and there was maybe about 2 GBs worth of files on it. Now Today I try and open his files again to save them, just to be safe and I can't find the external HD or USB thumb drive icon anywhere that you usually see. All I see is a CD image that says "WD Smartware" and it has generic files in it but none of the old files that I once saw.
It appears to have been deleted, I was wondering if anyone else using a WD HD can help me out please.
Thank you.

Intel iMacs (link differentiates Intel iMacs from the rest)
Mac Minis with 4 USB ports in back (not 2 USB ports found on older PowerPC Mac Minis).
Mac Pros a tower with 2 optical drive bays and cheesegrater front (not to be confused with the PowerMac G5 tower with only a single optical drive bay in front).

I can install WIndows 7 but have the following problems.. they have appeared and got worse with use which is hard to grasp.
    (1) Mouse/trackpad on MacBook Pro is almost unusable, inconsistent, erratic, non-responsive, etc
    (2) Attaching Firewire 800 external drives to iMac causes system crash (blue panel)
Does anyone have similar experience and/or have any suggestions as to how to resolve these issues?
Is there any way to run the trackpad as a basic mouse with drivers working properly until Apple comes out with working drivers for their "proprietary" trackpad?
Does anyone know where to find updated versions for Firewire 800 drivers that are compatible with Windows 7? The latest drivers from Microsoft will not install where it says the existing drivers are the current ones.
By the way, this was an "upgrade" installation from Vista where Vista had been working well. The initial attempt at installation failed badly destroying the OS X partition which had to be repaired and restored. I know this is supposedly impossible but it happened. I suspect this is because MacDrive 8 was installed and I have some folders at the root level on the OS X partition with the same names that WIndows uses. The Windows 7 installation failed late in the process indicating it could no longer write to the F: drive, where OS X was installed. I recommend doing the upgrade installation where there is no possible access from Windows through to the Mac OS X drive.

  • I want to burn blu ray discs from FVPX, compatible mac burner.

I want to burn blu ray discs from FCPX projects. I note I should be able to but any thought on a mac compatible burner. Why is so difficult to find one??

I would recommend navigating to www.macsales.com, because they specialize in Macs they can point you to devices that should work with your computer. Please make sure you also have software for burning Bluray discs, i'd recommend Titanium Toast.

  • Expresscard34 USB 3.0 Compatible Mac

Premetto che sono in possesso di un macbook Pro 15" (2008 unibody)
volevo sapere se esistono expresscard 34 con due porti usb 3.0 compatibili con Mac OS X Mountain Lion e completamente inserite e che non fuoriescano dal macbook?
I wanted to know if there are expresscard 34 with two ports usb 3.0 compatible with Mac OS X Lion Mountain and fully inserted and which do not protrude from the macbook?

The only way I'd know is if I asked, so I'm not quite sure what the problem is...
Baltwo is very knowledgable, and usually very helpful, but does have a penchant for terse replies at times. He was answering only your final question, not the rest of your post. Your final question asked about when Apple would support USB 3.0, and the only possible answers you could get from this forum would be speculation, and that would be a violation of the [terms of use of these forums|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms]. Apple does not speak about such things... they will support USB 3.0 when they support it, and will undoubtedly not mention it until the day it's available in a Mac.
As to the rest of your questions, sounds like they've been answered pretty well by others.

  • App Store compatible Mac apps from AIR?

    Hi,
I'm developing an app in Adobe AIR (HTML/JS), and while it's not critical, I'd like to have this app in the new Apple App Store. You won't find many people more disappointed with how Apple is running this store, but it may be a business reality that to get success on the Mac, App Store distribution is required.
I guess what this would involve would be to bundle up the whole AIR runtime into the app package, and hope the Apple minions think this is OK. Any plans at Adobe to do something about this?
    Cheers
    Garry

    Hi Garry,
I actually had luck using the SHU Player http://www.shu-player.com/ to package my AIR app as a standalone executable. I am not sure if it would have passed Apple's guidelines, but it was a great start. However in my experience, Adobe will not grant a license for you to use Adobe AIR in this way. I was quite disappointed to say the least. Our native competitors have quite the advantage at the moment, and I've got my fingers crossed that AIR 3.0 to addresses this in a serious way. They've done something much harder with their iPhone compiler, and if SHU already does it, it makes me hopeful that it's more of a legal issue than a technical one.

  • Does a Leopard family pac give me rights to Tiger for non-compatible Macs?

I have 3 macs, including an old G3 iMac, and would like to upgrade to Leopard, but of course that's not possible for the G3. I am about to purchase a family pack version of Leopard, but hate the idea of also having to pay for a separate operating system upgrade for the G3 too. Does Apple have something in place for me to allow the Family Pack Leopard license to cover my G3?
(This is all complicated by the fact that my G3 doen't have a DVD, so I need Tiger on CD.)

Thank you for the rapid response, and the extra information about using another computer's DVD drive. Do you have any advice on the best way to set up access between computers for this purpose. I have done file sharing through an ethernet hub, but also heard something about a direct fire-wire link between two machines.
The direct mode is called the Target Disk Mode. You can find out about it with the Finder help file.
Essentially you put the machine on which you wish to install the software in the Target Disk mode, and the box simply acts like a disk. In order to use this technique, both computers must be of the same type, PPC or Intel. You cannot "cross-install" between these systems.

  • Is Yosemite compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.5?

I am trying to install Yosemite on my computer, and it keeps saying that I cannot. It says the requirements are Mac OS X 10.6.8 and later, and I have Max OS X 10.7.5. Help

Which computer model do you have? Does it meet Yosemite requirements?
Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8, already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available disk space
Some features of OS X Yosemite require an Apple ID or iCloud account and a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply. Continuity features such as Handoff and Instant Hotspot require a compatible iOS device with iOS 8 and a compatible Mac.
You can also back up your Mac using Time Machine before you install.

  • My mac wont let me open an application after it download

so once i have downloaded an application such as a music download site it successfully downloads but when i try to open it to install it this is exactly what it says(Safari can’t open the file “BlubsterSetup.exe” because no available application can open it.) blubster is the name of the site i tried to download...and then when i click help this is what pops up..
#1.Safari can open a downloaded file only if it's in the download location specified in the General pane of Safari preferences. If you move the file or change the download location after downloading a file, Safari cannot open it.
#2.Safari can open a downloaded file only if there is an application available to open it. Mac OS X includes applications that open many types of files including text, image, sound, and PDF files. However, to open some files you might need to install the application used to create the files on your computer.
#3.The file is still downloading. Wait for the file to finish downloading, then try opening it.
The file didn't finish downloading because you stopped the download. Resume downloading the file, then try opening it.
The file didn't download completely because of a problem or the file was damaged. Try downloading the file again.
i think it may be #2 cause all the others dont apply......thanks

.EXE files are not very easy to open on Macs with Mac OS X 10.4.3 or earlier. They typically require an emulation program to run Windows.
    See my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#WINTEL
Newer Macs are more capable of running Windows, and can do so natively. You can attempt to find a 10.3.9 compatible alternative compatible application as well. Audio and video files don't play very well on emulation, but work fine in Windows native compatible Macs.

  • How to connect my nokia 6120c to my mac laptop?

how to connect my nokia 6120c to my mac laptop? i want to use my phone as my modem

    Hi,
Listed below is the step by step intructions to configure the Nokia device as a modem to a mac. If you receive any cases/questions related to this, please provide the steps mentioned below.
    Steps:
Connecting your Mac to the internet is convenient and easy with your a compatible Nokia S60 device. You'll need a Nokia S60 device that supports a 2G or 3G data connection (such as GPRS or HSDPA), a compatible Mac (with the latest OS X), a USB cable for your Nokia device or a Bluetooth-enabled Mac, and a network subscription with your mobile service provider.
To set up your device you'll need to know your operator's Access Point Name (APN) and have the packet data service enabled. For help with this please contact your operator.
-In the following example, the APN name "Airtel" is used. This name will vary depending on your operator.
-On your device locate and open the Settings application. This is normally in the Tools folder.
-In Settings select and open Connection >Select and open Packet data > Select and open Access point >Type in your operator's Access Point Name
-Exit Settings. Your device is now ready to be used as a modem for your Mac!
-Bluetooth Connection: Pairing between Mac and Device using bluetooth, follow the instruction from here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-as-a-modem
Note: Preferred mode is USB as it much faster than Bluetooth.
Connect the device and then go to System preferences- >Network- >Select Device (Nokia XXX)
Click on Advanced Tab > Modem tab
    - Vendor : Nokia
    -Model:GPRS (GSM/3G)
-Telephone Number: *99***1# (contact your operator to get this settings)
-APN: airtelgprs.com (contact your operator to get this settings)
    CID: 1
Once connected it will be highlighted in green.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Cheers

  • TS3988 How do I set up an iCloud account without a Mac product?

I have installed iCloud control panel on my Windows 7, and have created an Apple ID, but am told that it is not an iCloud account. I don't have another Apple product without a current iCloud account. Also, this account will be used to consolidate certain activities amongst a few individuals who have their own iCloud accounts, and we do not want to mix our personal stuff into one big puddle.
So far, this has been frustrating, and I'm hoping for a solution, so that we can stay with an Apple platform.
    Thanks for the help.

There is no way to setup iCloud on a PC, it must be setup first on a compatible Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

  • How do you remove the words from beneath the mac logo while you're trying to log in?[urgent]

Hi, I purchased an Imac 2005 G5 model from a local school some time ago, and now I have sold it, but the schools name and other text will not be removed from the login window. I do not have the original disks, I have already used cmd + s mount /uw / and other variations of that. I also tried opening terminal, and typing: sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow LoginwindowText I also tried resetting the open firmware and nothing! Nothing seems to be able to remove this, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. I will insert a link to a picture of what I'm talking about. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=15x1v06&s=8#.VMPEmCzazIV

Use a compatible Mac OS X install DVD to erase the computer's internal drive and install a fresh OS. If you don't have one, buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD(10.4 may also work) from a source such as Amazon or eBay, or click here and order replacement original disks.

  • How do I install OSX Lion that shipped with my 2011 Mac Mini onto my 2011 Macbook Pro

Reading the documentation for OSX Lion suggests that it is a multi-device lisence OS and that it should appear in my App Store as purchased Apps, but I don't see it.

If you purchased Lion through the App Store it should appear there and be downloadable / installable on all of your compatible Macs, this is the only way to install it on all of your Macs as far as I am aware.  It is just £25 so not a big deal to purchase, but I would wait for Mountain Lion now.  I don't think the pre-installed Mac OS appears as a purchase in the App Store, though it would be nice if it did as technically you purchased the licence for it when you purchased your Mac (though perhaps a slightly different licence?)
