WD TV Live, sometimes doesn't find network shares

Hello everyone, I have WD TV Live and WD external and network harddrive. My problem is that sometimes, randomly, player does not find the WD external drive. The only thing which helps is turn off and turn on the playerby unplugging and plugin the power adapter. Harddrive is allright, because at the same time is availablefrom other devices such as tablet or notebook. Has anyone simililar problem? Tanks for helpHawkeye

I don't have a solution, but I have a workaround.  I had the same issue - intermittent connectivity, slow.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with my network, it's all hard-wired, all the computers (win 7 / Win 8) can browse to each other, play media, etc.  The proper computer was filing the role of Master Browser. For approximately a year, I used a Synology NAS acting as a DLNA "media server".  It worked perfect, never an issue.  I took down the NAS and built a dedicated Windows (7) media center, or HTPC.  That's when the trouble started with my WD unit. To solve it, I stopped using network sharing to get to the media from the WD device and instead downloaded Universal Media Server (installed on the dedicated HTPC), which is free and acts as a media server, the same way the orginal Synology NAS did.  Problem solved, easy setup!  My WD unit is back to being fast, always finds the media server etc. I'm convinced there's something wrong with the unit or the firmware (for some) and WD isn't interested in solving it.

  • WDTV LIVE will not connect to network share without a password

I followed "Method 1" from mike27oct post entitledHow to resolve "Network shares" access problems with WDTV media players. The WD Live recognizes the computers but continues to require a username and password.

If you followed Method 1, be sure you adjusted the settings in the WIndows settings, too, be sure Windows is still not requiring a password.  Double check all the steps you followed which I provided in the thread.I double checked your instructions and also realized that I had to except the "anonymus" login and the default password.  Now I am able to link to the computer on my network.  It also shows a list of folders but some of the listed folders are really not on my computer. My movie/video m2ts files are in my video folder. I keep getting a message that their are no media files available.

  • Find network share process and kill it

    Hi All,
Is it possible that we could find open network share access process and kill it?
For example, user is opened a folder via network share (e.g: \\myserver\c$\myfolder). Is it possible that we could somehow query process to identify this open network share process and kill it before attemp to delete C:\myfolder? Please advise.

You could try checking for open file handles, as described here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/317071/how-do-i-find-out-which-process-is-locking-a-file-using-net. They have both a solution using an external executable utility (SysInternals) and one using PInvoke. You could also use this other utility which is specifically
targeted at hosts of network shares:

  • Doesn't find network anymore

Why doesn't my iBook find my airless network anymore? I've set it up last night and everything was ok; then, when I put my computer to sleep, I selected "turn airport off". Today, I woke my computer up, selected "turn airport on" and tried to select my network. Instead, it only recognises another network, which is probably around my home.

    Hi friscojatt,
According to your system profile, you are running OS
X 10.2.X. You cannot setup an Express with anything
less than Panther (10.3). This is from the Airport
    Express Setup Guide:
What You Need to Get Started
To set up AirPort Express using a Macintosh, you must
    have the following:
A Macintosh computer with an AirPort or AirPort
    Extreme Card installed
Mac OS X v10.3 or later
iTunes 4.7 (included on the AirPort Express CD) or

  • Airport doesn't find network anymore

    Hello,
since 2 days ago i have a problem finding my wireless network.
The first thing i did was to reset the airport base, which worked. my powerbook found the network again. Then another weird thing happened when i tried to set the password back. I told me that my computer wasn't WPA-capable. But I used a WPA password all the time before and never had an issue.
so i set it to a WEP 128bit password and it worked. but now since 10mins it won't recognize the network AGAIN. I reset the base again but still the network doesn't appear but other networks do. just not mine
my roommate's laptop (Windows XP) recognizes the network btw
is it possible that i caught a virus?
    thanks for any help

is it possible that i caught a virus?
    Not likely at all.
One thing that can work, try this, please ignore the exact symptoms and connection and Hardware types, it's worked for many others than the stated...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482
    It's worked for WEP, WPA/WPA2, G3s, G4s, G5s, Desktop, and laptops.
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Does rebooting the Mac only fix it temporarily?
Was the Mac going to Sleep before the disconnection?
Next time it happens try one or both of these lines in Terminal...
sudo ipconfig set en1 BOOTP;sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP
    sudo ifconfig en1 down;sudo ifconfig en1 up

  • C6380 doesn't find network *solved*

I successfully setup our new Photosmart C6380 on my wireless network several days ago, but today the printer no longer will find any wireless network. I went back and reset the printer to default settings and ran through the Wireless Setup Wizard, but it cannot find my network. 3 out of 4 of my computers are connected to the network. The printer is sitting next to the computer that can't connect... maybe it caught whatever problem that computer had.
I tried entering in our SSID manually in case someone had set it to not broadcast, but it still did not find it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

  • Airport doesn't find network after startup when wireless router is hidden

If I have the Wireless Network setting on my router set to "Hide Wireless Network" my Mac can't find the network after I have restarted it.
If I leave the "hide wireless network" box unticked everything works fine, but I would prefer to have it hidden.
Two windows-based laptops also use this router and they work fine with the wireless network hidden.
    The router is a D-link DSL-2740B.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I also confirm the same problem. I do not have any bridges etc on my network. Direct connect from Comcast cable modem to Airport router. The only way to set it correctly so far is to allow the network name to be visible. Whats strange is that I have this same router type at my other place and the other one is working just fine. Perhaps there is some slight hw change recently?

  • OSD: TS deployed to Vista SCCM 2012 client, reboots then doesn't find network drivers

    Hi,
We deploy SCCM 2012 client to a SCCM 2007 Vista pc.
We then deploy a task sequence to install Windows 7.
Everything works fine on a vm, it reboots in winpe then starts the task sequence. On a laptop however, it does not work. F8 shows it does not get an ip address, it seems as if no network adaptor is recognized.
However, the same task sequence works fine on the same laptop when pxe booting + I added the driver to winpe. Didn’t help. Please advise.

I think I know what the root cause is, but not how to solve it.
In diskpart, I can see 3 volumes:
    *Volume 0 = D-drive, DVD-rom,
*Volume 1 = no drive letter, partition of 400 GB
*Volume 2 = C-drive, label "Configuratio", type "removable" 4 GB
It should install to the 400 GB drive but it seems that its installing to the removable drive.
Not sure what that is since there is no USB attached. Probably it is the winpe temporarely mounted(?)
The behaviour I have is described
here and is also referring to USB.
=> I guess I have to tell the temporarely mounted drive to be f.e. Z when installing in full OS.
    Any idea howto do this?

  • My Macbook sometimes doesn't connect to my Wireless N network

I had my topcase replaced by apple a few weeks ago. Since then I've noticed my macbook SOMETIMES doesn't connect to my wireless N network (from my AEBS running on 5.8ghz frequency).
It's strange because most of the time it finds the network fine. But sometimes when i open the macbook up (awakes from sleep) it doesn't see the network (it's not available from the list of available networks). If i try to connect manually to the network when this happens i get a "connection timeout" message. If i turn off my airport connection off and then on with the macbook (thru the menu bar) it sometimes finds the N network. Sometimes that doesn't work, and i have to put the macbook to sleep and hope it finds the network when it awakes. Sometimes that solves the problem, but i may have to try it 3 or 4 times.
If i switch my AEBS to a mixed signal (supporting G) i don't have these problems, but i shouldn't have to do that, and i'm sacrificing wireless speed if i do that. I have a stable connection when it DOES find the network (it won't drop out and will be at full strength) but as soon as i put it to sleep i run the risk it may not find the network when it awakes.
As i said before i didn't notice this problem before I sent in the macbook to have the topcase repaired - is it possible the airport card was damaged? I was only running a N wireless network a week prior to submitting the macbook for repair, so i'm not positive that's it either.

There's a reason why some are less than energetic in answering your question: the "pinwheel of death" could mean a lot of things. To start off, you will need to use various utilities to coax your MBP into functionality:
    1. Perform a Permisions Repair, and also Repair your disk on Disk Utilities. If this doesn't work, proceed to the next step.
    2. Using a free utility like Onyx, clean your caches.
    3. Using the free Kext Wizard, make sure your files are consistent and accurate.
    4. Use OpenDNS by connecting to this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2478039?start=0&tstart=0
OpenDNS is a simple way of making your online experience faster and easier.
If these steps were successful, take the time to post here; others will profit from your experience. If you still don't have the answer, post...and we'll find the solution!

I solved the problem in this way.

If the mouse clicks something on its own then it looks like you have a hardware problem with the trackpad or possibly the battery that is right underneath the trackpad.
I have read that the battery can swell and that would put pressure on the trackpad.

  • Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  When I use the new airport express network I created error message says ip address is wrong.  Help setting this new airport express up

Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  Using the new airport express network I just set up it says the ip address is invalid.  What can I do to overcome this blinking amber light and error messages?

You need to begin by configuring the AEX to Join an existing network (Bridge Mode.) You can then connect to it using Wi-Fi, but the AEX will not extend your existing network.
If you can connect the AEX to your existing router using Ethernet, then you could use it to Create a new network. Otherwise, if you want to extend your existing network you will need to get a Wireless Access Point - WAP - from a non-Apple product like D-Link.

  • IPhone 4 doesn't find Wi-Fi networks

When I search for available Wi-Fi networks, my iPhone 4 (on iOS 7.1.2) fails to find networks that my iPad Mini finds immediately.  e.g. in the office today, the iPad finds 7 networks whilst the iPhone finds none.  Both devices appear to have the same settings.
If I switch off the phone and switch it on again, it will occasionally find networks that I have connected to before (home, friends, etc) but that isn't reliable enough.
I have previously tried resetting Network Settings but that didn't help.
I work away from home during the week, so this leaves me relying heavily on 3G data. I have often have app store updates that are weeks old and downloading music or books is a pipedream.

This is what finally worked for me: launch Airport Utility, select your base station and check to see if the Radio Mode is set to 802.11n (only). If so, try changing it to 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible), and see if your iPhone detects your network after the base station restarts.

  • ITunes Diagnostic Doesn't Find Audio CD or iPhone/iPad - Help!

    I
I’m having issues with iTune to recognize my iPhone and iPad.  My iPod nano (G5) is recognized.  I’ve run diagnostics with two failures (No Audio CD Found, and No iPod, iPhone, iPad connected).  A month ago everything was working.  What happened?  I’ve spend many hours following the instructions that’s on the web without success.  BTW – the music list that’s on my ‘test’ CD is displayed in iTunes and can be played.  It’s very strange that the diagnostic shows a CD/DVD issue.  I don’t have a virtual drive.  'Importing the CD' works cleanly - no problems.
I am at a loss.  Any suggestions, phones numbers?

  • My ipad doesn't find my printer....

How do I make my hp 3510 discoverable to my ipad? The wireless printing works from my laptop which has the same wifi settings, but the ipad cannot find the printer????

    Hi Kiwisteve77,
I understand the Ipad doesn't find the printer.
    Thank you for your reply.
I will be happy to help you with this.
Try turning the wi-fi off and on again on the Ipad.
If that doesn't work turn the Ipad off and on again.
Check to make sure it is connected to the proper network.
Power cycle the router, Ipad and the printer and try it again if you are still having issues.
I have provided a document for How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network. Go to the section What if a 'No AirPrint Printers Found' message displays on my Apple device?
