WD World Book 1 TB

When trying to connect to my WD World Book i can view the icon in in finder but reciee the following message "The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem." Has anybody experienced the same problem or can advise on a solution?

had a wd ext hd and it worked poorly took it apart and put the hd in another hd reader and the hd was fine seems

Running App Store, I've had this problem trying to obtain applications for my MacBook [OS 10.6.8] on several occasions. I locate the app I want to download, and clicking on the button "view in mac app store" launches the program 2011 World Book, annoying, but blocking my route to obtaining the software I seek. Please advise.

Might be the cache...
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.appstore folder to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder
Restart your Mac. See if that helped.

Uninstall Delete World Book and Garage Band without problems i.e Iphoto

With only 30GB, I want to free up space. I am concerned that by just dragging these two files to the trash, I will have problems (as mentioned in other discussions).
Can someone tell me "definitively" how to accomplish this without problems. According to the info on file report, these two programs and associated files take up probably 3-4 GB.

I know of no problems with iPhoto and trashing World Book.
Hwever, some folks have had problems with iPhoto when Garage Band is trashed - it fails to launch.
My suggestion is to keep Garage Band (the app itself, minus language resources is only about 80MB) but by all means trash the associated Sound Loops - which is where the Gigs of space go. In fact, trashing the app won't remove these - they're in an Application Support Folder.

I just tried to open a World Book Notepad document and learned that that program isn't supported in Lion. Any ideas on how I can open the doc? It has some essential information.

Mac App Store - World Book Notepad

Transferring files from failing world book to time capsule.

I have a old world book that im assuming is starting to fail. It will only stay powered on for 20 minutes or so and then power itself off and the only way to get it back on is to unplug the power cord and plug it back in. I am a ever progressing amatuer photographer and upgrading all of my back up capabilities so as to not have this problem again.
I dont get to open my new Airport Time Capsule until Xmas morning and wondering if anyone has gone through a similiar problem and could offer advice.

How are your files backed up on the WD drive?
Is it Time Machine backup?
Or do you have your photos raw in directories? Or is it an iphoto etc library.
How do you intend to use TC in the future? Are you going to do TM backups? Are you going to mix that with data like photos. Are the backups and the original files going to be on the same disk.. in which case it is no backup at all??
You need to copy the files as quickly as possible during the time the WD stays up..
That means directly to the computer or to a USB drive plugged into the computer.. do yourself a favour and buy another Christmas present.. a 3TB usb drive.. I see them for $99 now.. cheap as chips.
Copying over network to network is slow.. Once you have all the files on the USB drive you can then copy it to the TC at your leisure.
Take note of mixing data and backups.

Disabled wireless network router with WD World Book

I have recently updated iTunes and now everytime I start it up it says Updating iTunes Library, then after approx 1 minute the wireless network adaptor on my pc is disabled. The only way to re-enable it is to shut down the pc then then restart it. I've tried updating the drivers on the WPN111 USB adaptor but it hasn't made any difference.
I'm using an external WD World book to store my music folders and I'm guessing it's something to do with this and iTunes?

How to reinstall World Book and other bundled apps

Hi all,
I'm trying to free up some hard disk space on my iBook in order to be able to store more digital photos. As I rarely use World Book, Marble Blast Gold and Garage Band, I'm thinking of deleting those applications.
However, I'd like to know if they can be reinstalled if I choose to do so at a later date with the DVDs that came with the iBook.

Yes, all applications that came pre-installed on your iBook can be re-installed using the disk(s) that came with it. See This Article.
Whilst deleting GarageBand you might also like to delete the supplied loops in HD/Library/Application Support. I deleted mine so long ago I can't remember how big the folder is but it's in excess of 1GB. From memory, World Book has a large file in Application Support too.
Printer drivers are another space hog and can be found in the HD/Library/Printers folder. You can safely delete any named drivers that you don't have a printer for. For example, if you have a Canon, you can remove Epson, Lexmark, Hewlett Packard & Brother drivers. Epson alone takes up close to 1gb. You can even remove specific drivers from within the manufacturer's folder. For example, if you have an Epson C86 you can safely trash any other specific drivers in the Epson folder like C46, C66 etc. If, at a later date, you buy a printer whose driver you removed they can be added from your install disk, the disk that comes with the printer or downloaded.
A word of warning: More cautious heads than mine advise against messing in the HD/Library, but if you stick to the examples above, i.e. GarageBand loops, World Book and printer drivers you will be OK.
You might also like to consider removing Language Support files if you have no need for other languages. This can be done using Monolingual. Heed the warnings on the site, i.e. Don't remove English or American English, or other languages that you have a use for. They can't be reinstalled without reinstalling the OS.
Last but by no means least, when you have finished dumping your unwanted stuff in the trash, don't forget to empty it. You haven't regained the space until you do
…and definitely last this time: If in doubt leave it alone and ask!

Unlikley.
If that hard drive is wifi and has an app then you can probably access it. But if it's a normal plug in via usb drive, then no.
the ipad doesn't have the file manager that computers do, and it would be that file manager that would enable accessing other data.

Wesern Digital World Book II

Is anyone familiar with the WD World Book II. I would like to store my photo library on this drive. Will this slow down the program and library retrieval and editing. Also will I be able to acess my pictures from a PC?

To be honest i wouldn't use a MyBook, take a look at a NetGear ReadyNAS Duo. Either way, you cannot at present network your Aperture library, which is very frustrating.

Re-Installing World Book

My World Book doesn't work and I want to re-install it with the Indstallation cd's that came with my powerbook. How do I go about doing this without having to install all of Mac OSX? Any ideas??

WD World Book External Hard Drive

I have an old WD World Book external hard drive, and whenever the computer powers on when connected via the firewire 800 cable it doesn't wake up. If I use the usb then its fine. Is there a fix for this, other than only using the usb cable of course?

Could be the FW cable. I've had similar problems and when I switched out the cable, my drives mounted.

The above can be found within Finder/Services. Is there a way I can keep handy within Doc?

Simply go to the location of the application you want to put in the Dock. On my iMac World Book Dictionary is in the Applications folder.
Click and hold the World Book Dictionary icon and drag it to the Dock.
This has created a shortcut to opening World Book Dictionary.
If you have something in the Dock that you don't want just click on it and hold, drag it off of the Dock and let go. Poof, it goes away. Not the application but simply the shortcut. If you ever want it back just drag it back

World book emac favor

This will probably be lost in the ether, but just thought I'd put it out there.
I have lost the emac restore CDs. I had worldbook 2004 and 2005 previously installed and have replaced the hard drive and upgraded from 10.4. to 10.5
Even though I copied the huge world book folders and put them in the new drive, the world book app won't run and I am instructed to reinstall. I have the world book 2004 CD but I think this is only multimedia and not the installer, which I think was only to be found in the restore CDs.
Would anyone care to send me the world book 2004 or 2005 installer (using something like pacifist to extract it?) just a shot in the dark! I have no idea what size it would be, but maybe it can be isolated from the other resources of the program (timeline, etc) and it wouldn't be very large?
The error message doesn't complain about not being able to run in 10.5, just that the application was moved and needs to be reinstalled or words to that effect. It actually loads all the menus too, but they are grayed out. I did see some restore CDs on ebay so that might where I'm going with it next. Surprisingly, games like nanosaur and others didn't complan at all about being moved.

really had no idea where to post this...
anyway. does anyone know if i can simply backup my world book app. and reload it at some later time. or would i need to re-install it from my original tiger disk... and if that's the case can i pull just that app. from the disk?

I don't know if you can back it up. Try it. If you need to reinstall it and a seperate installer isn't on the disc, Pacifist can extract it from the disc and install it.

World Book

I wasnt sure where to post this so i just put it here. The 3D Atlas on my world book insnt working properly. All I can see is the outline of a black globe. The only thing i can think of doing is reinstalling it. How do I do this? Any other suggestions?
