WDS network and printing

Having probs trying to connect to a HP c5180 on our network...
Setup is 2x Netgear WNR3500 routers, one as a wireless base station, one as a repeater. Printer is connected via ethernet to the repeater (as it's up in our office), and it gets an IP fine, and works fine on an ubuntu desktop.
But... my macbook Pro is having probs. I can't see the printer at all over bonjour no matter if I'm connected to the base or repeater stations, and if I manually add as an IP printer, I initially see it and can send jobs, but then it states the printer is busy and won't print.
Any ideas? Have enabled RIP on the base station, but that made no difference. Also disabled IPv6 on my macbook pro to see if that would work.

PS - FYI, in both situations, the hard-wired AX is set up as WDS main, and the AX connected wirelessly for Airtunes is set up as WDS remote; and connection sharing is set up as "off - bridge mode".
Thanks again for any help.

  • Home Network and printer sharing with XP and Vista

I have a home network and printer wired on my PC desktop which runs XP.  My Vista laptop has been connected to internet and printer through the home network for past 6 years flawlessly.  However, since October my Vista laptop cannot
connect to the network printer, but internet has been working fine.
I've tried to uninstall/reinstall, update drivers, connect via TCP/IP but printer isn't located by add printer wizard.  When I plug printer directly into laptop via USB it works fine.  I also have tried another xp desktop in the house
and that cannot locate the printer also.     Help!
    Thanks in advance,

  • TWO Aiport express in WDS network and NAS drive?

    Hi,
I know this question has been asked several times: one airport express cannot be connected to USB nor NAS drive. But what about TWO airport express?
We now have 2 airport express (b/g) at home presently participating in a WDS network with the following connections:
    - Aiport express #1 (WDS main) - living room
=> ethernet = connected to internet
=> jack = connected to HIFI
    - Airport express #2 (WDS remote) - office room
=> USB = connected to printer
My question is the following: would it be possible to connect the ethernet port of Aiport express #2 to a NAS drive? How has the Airport express #2 to be configured (WDS remote? WDS relay? Connection sharing= "bridge" or "distribute a range of IP"?) for this purpose?
I could not find any clear answer yet on this particular situation.
Thanks in advance for your help with this. I do not want to buy a NAS drive and realize that it does not work...

My question is the following: would it be possible to connect the ethernet port of Aiport express #2 to a NAS drive?
    Yes that should work.
How has the Airport express #2 to be configured (WDS remote? WDS relay? Connection sharing= "bridge" or "distribute a range of IP"?) for this purpose?
Either WDS remote or relay should work. You do not want it distributing IP addresses. Configuring it as a WDS remote or relay should automatically prevent this setting.

  • Airport WDS Network and the 5GHz Option

Setting up any Airport base station with basic settings is simple but there always seem to be options that are not well covered in the 'manual' when setting up slightly more complex networks. I'm hoping someone can provide some clarification on our configuration or parhaps some advice.
For many years we have used a series of generations of Aiport basestations to create a WDS (wireless distributed) network. This is where one base station is the master and other base stations extend the range of the network wirelessly. This is not a set of wireless basestations creating an extended network by sitting on an ethernet backbone - that's a different configuration.
Anyway, we now have a Time Capsule, an Airport Extreme, and an Airport Express. The Time Capsule is the master and the other two base stations extend the network. By default, the basestations select the channel automatically but we have selected manual channels because we have neightbours that all seem to want to sit on channel 1. We've opted for channel 13, a less used channel.

[Airport Extreme] ---- [Time Capsule] ---- [Airport Express]
The Extreme and the Express both operate in Bridge Mode only, that is, they simply extend the configuration of the master basestation and do not ditribute private addresses or do any NAT. I reckon this keeps it simple. Any changes made on the Time Capsule - such as Access Control changes - are pushed out to the other two stations automatically. This seems to be a significant improvement over version 5 of the airport software.
My main question relates to the 5GHz network option. I can turn on a 5GHz discrete network on the Time Capsule. It receives a unique name so it's clearly distinguished from the 2.4GHz network when connecting to it on our Macs. You would expect the other two base stations to be able to extend the 5GHz network too but their 5GHz options remain turned off by default. I can turn them on manually but I'm not sure if they should all be configured to work on the same channel or even if turning them on at all is a good idea.
Over the years, the setup of a WDS network has become easier (if only for the reason that Apple has removed some of the more confusing options and simply enables them in background). But the 5GHz network configuration is far from clear. Any advice anyone might have would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It appears as if your Time Capsule is a simultaneous dual band version which produces both a a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network.....and you have enabled the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network.
If both your AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express are also simultaneous dual band versions, they can extend both the 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz signals from the Time Capsule.......but only if the Time Capsule is configured to use the same wireless network name for both bands.
The simultaneous dual band version of the AirPort Express is easy to identify......it looks like a miniature AirPort Extreme.  Check the Model No on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme and report back with that to find out if your AirPort is simultaneous dual band.
Earlier versions of the AirPort Extreme could produce a 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz network, but not both at the same time.
Once we have clarification on your AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express, we can decide on the options that will be available to you as far as "extending" both bands.

  • WDS network and Airtunes

I have a WDS network as follows: TC hard wired to AX n which connects wirelessly to an AX b/g that is only used for Airtunes. It works great.
But I tried to duplicate it at a friend's house; the only difference is that her TC is wired to an AX b/g which we want to connect wirelessly to another AX b/g for Airtunes. Works great for internet at both from both the TC and the AX hard-wired b/g. But we can't get her last AX to work on Airtunes; it stays flashing yellow. I duplicated all the settings (e.g., "participate in a network", other checkboxes, etc) exactly. Any advice? Could it really be that the fact that mine runs through an AX n and hers through an AX b really be the difference? Other ideas?
    Thanks!

  • My ipad with retina display can't find my epson artisan 730 wireless printer. They are on the same network and printer's wireless connection is excellent. What are the steps to fix this?

My imac won't pick up the printer either. Even after I updated it's software.  My ipad is new.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No change. The printer still doesn't show up on my devices even though they are all on the same network.  On the printer's connection print out the connection reads Pass and that the network is working correctly.  However, then it states "*A router/access point channel conflict has been detected. If you have problems printing or scanning, Improve your wireless network environment." "*If the problems persist, see your documentation for help and networking tips."
I've gone through all the documentation and still can't figure out what the problem is.  I've had the router checked out by my building and they claim everything is in order.  I have a excellent signal.

  • Networking and printer

I have vista on one desktop and xp on another.  I was able to print from both.  The printer is an Epson and the one connected to.  The xp was networked to use this printer as well.  I just replaced my wifi router and I cannot get the xp to print.  I keep getting, the Espson printer is not ready.  I have tried what I know (not a lot) and it should be working.  Any ideas to help?

  • Networking and printer- making hard wire Hp Officejet wireless

    Question-
How does one make a hard wired printer wireless?
I have 3 macs that are set up wirelessly for internet.
    2 running 10.5 ( Mac book & Imac G5) and one running 10.4 ( Power Mac G4 ).
    I have a belkin wireless G router .
I ran to walmart last night to buy a printer ( HP officejet 6500)I saw online that was supposed to be wireless. I went to the store picked up a box under the labeled display model - got home set it up and found it was the hard wired version.
So I found that I had a belkin wireless router and think that i should be able to make this wireless vie the router just dont know how...I have it hooked up via ethernet port but cant find the printer.
I can find the router but not the printer...
Any pointers and instructions will be greatly appreciated..
    thanks in advance--

  • Network and printing

I have tried to resolve this basic issue by searching, but can't find anything I can understand!
I now have set up a wireless network with my new Airport Extreme. The instructions say I can plug a printer in to the AE and anyone can use it (including iPad users, I assume?).
But.... I don't want to plug the printer into the AE as it's in the basement. Presently a printer is plugged into my main MacPro, which connects wirelessly, and another is plugged in to my Macbook Pro, which is connected by cable.
Is there any way I can get to the printer through those, or do I have no choice but to put a printer in the basement? I have tried to add printer in Airport utility, but it can't see any. I even fiddled with internet printing and Bonjour, but nothing happened!
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

If you want to share a USB printer to both Macs, it would either have to be:
Connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
Connected to the USB port on either Mac and configured for sharing.

  • Can't connect to Home Network and Printer

    hi,
I just bought my first mac, its a macbook with leopard, and am having quite a bit of trouble connecting it to our home network. I'm not much of a computer whiz, so i have no idea what to do. Our network doesn't have any security, but does need a password, and each time i try to connect it after putting in my name and password it says "The Volume cannot be Mounted" and then comes up with an error message saying "an unexpected error occurred". And because i cannot connect to the network i cannot connect to our printers and need them desperately, i start uni in a week!
    what can i do?
    thanks
    dan
if more details are needed let me know...

What version of Leopard are you using? I asked because Apple just released 10.5.2.
Plus if you are adding a lone Mac to a windows network then read the user reports at MacWindows.com (you should have the site bookmark if you are going to mix Macs into PC networks).

  • Wifi and home network and printing

I just recieved my new MacBook Pro last week and certainly enjoying it, but have a few questions(bye the way, I'm a new Mac user):
I have a Linksys wireless router in my home and able to access my shared files on my xp machine, but sometimes after the notebook goes into sleep mode and when it wakes it can no longer detect my pc. The PC can still access the notebook though. Any thoughts? And At that same time I am able to still access the internet.
Also, the other night I received my first kernel panic attack and recieved the gray screen message and had to reboot. It happened while I was outside surfing the internet and I had lost my signal for internet and home network. I was picking up other wifi signal too and wondering if that could have caused it. I then made a call on my cordless phone and that is around the time of the kernel panic. Since then no Kernel panics. Again any thoughts? Should I be worried having a Kernel panic with a machine that is less then a week old?
    Look forward to your responses.
MacBook Pro 2.2 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

You can have a go using a wireless bridge.. eg the airport express will do this.. you can join it to the iphone wireless running as a hotspot.. and then plugged into the TC wan port.. the TC has to be setup in router mode.. so this is going to give you double NAT errors.. and of course errors for all the time the hotspot is turned off.. but it can work. However you might find it requires you to manually connect up each time.. If you are really going to try and do this you will manage it.. but how fiddly it becomes might put you off after a week.
You will chew up your 5GB very fast using any streaming media even radio. So be very careful to track the usage.
Apple should have built in the TC the ability to plug in a wireless 3G modem.. via the USB but Apple have ceased to do adventurous stuff.
If you give up the TC as main router there are plenty of better products on the market that will handle multiple wan connections.. !!

  • Nvidia firewall and home networking and printer-sharing: how do you enable it?

Hey guys, finally my system is running at 100% after re-formating WinXP3 times which is probly one of the most painful experience i ever had.
I installed the nvidia firewall and it runs great but the problem is that when i enable it, all the other computers cannot see this MSI computer's shared folder and network printers because I think the firewall blocked it all.
I tried to change the secuirity setting to low and even added the IP address of all the other 3 computers to the firewall config w/o avail.
can anyone of you here enlighten me?

  • Trying to network my Printer

    Hey
I just bought a new Printer (HP Photosmart C5580) and its hooked up directly to my Imac. I know want to have my Windows Vista computer be able to network and print directly from there to the new printer. I am hooked up through a wireless Verizon Fios router, so this should be able to happen, but I just can't figure out all the settings.
I was hoping somebody could help me out here
    1) What settings do i need to change on my MAC
    2) how do i set it up on my PC so I can print from them
    Hope someone can help
    thanks!

    See if this helps:
    http://blog.codefront.net/2007/02/05/sharing-a-usb-printer-from-mac-os-x-to-wind ows/
Alternatively, you can plug it into your Vista machine, and share it from Windows - it will then be easily added to your Mac.

  • WDS Network AE Noise -1 Rate -1

I am trying to troubleshoot my WDS network and losing my connection with my MBP. I noticed that the wireless connection between the AE and the Extreme BS shows Noise -1 and Rate -1. I do not know how to interpret these values. Can someone shed some light on them for me?
    Thanks

When enabling mac filtering, do I need to include the mac addresses for clients on both the base station and express or just one or the other?
    Both.
Don't confuse MAC address filtering with security. It offers no real security. The MAC addresses are broadcast between the connected client and the base station, therefore they are easily discovered and cloned.
If you want security, use WPA2 or WPA with a non-dictionary password.

  • The Difference between Extending a Wireless network and WDS?

I have an Extreme (n) and an Express (n).
I want to make sure the signal is strong upstairs and share a printer (connected to the express) and use AirTunes. I also may add an external drive to the Extreme.
What's the difference between Extending a Wireless Network and using WDS? Will there be a speed difference?
Message was edited by: J. Christopher Edwards

I think you don't get it
If I have another draft N router that operates at 2.4G and I have only n devices I can still use WDS and it will connect using draft n in the 2.4G band.
If one g device connects to the network will go in mixed mode.
The AEBS will still report 130 Mbps for your n clients and 54 for your g clients.
If the other router is g only obviously you can't connect between the two router at n mode but still the AEBS will be in mixed mode and not in g. The Extreme will still report 130 Mbps for the connected n clients.
I can tell you that because I have actually implemented it am not taking off the documentation.
The same device if I try to use the "extend n network" does not even see the AEBS but will happily keep the n in the WDS mode and though the bandwidth is halved it is still more than g.
In any case enough for this!
