WDS service never starts once DP PXE is enabled

Hi ,
I am facing issues with deploying OS through PXE. WDS stop working (not able to start the services) once I enable PXE point on distribution point. I have observed that RemoteTool\SMSBoot\x64 and x86 folders are empty. Its config manager 2012 R2.
If I remove PXE point, WDS start working again (service start). Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks

  • CUCM 8.6.2.20000 Pub & Sub DRF Local never starts when servers started

Anyone ever seen this? I'm running CUCM 8.6.2.20000 in my lab on Esxi5 VM's. Every time I gracefully shutdown the Pub and Sub, and turn them back on (this is a lab, hence the multiple on/offs) both Pub and Sub DRF local services never start. Never. DRF master starts, but not the two locals. I have to manually start them each and every time. Once they are started, no problems.

    Hi,
Can you check whether you have any expired CAPF certificates in CUCM OS Admin page --> Security -- > Certificate management. If you do have you can delete the expired certs after confirming that there are valid certs available on the same page. Restart CAPF service after that.
We could also find the exact cause from the DRF local logs
    Thanks,

  • WDS won't start after ConfigMgr R2 upgrade

    Hi guys,
After upgrading to R2 recently our Primary Site Server which hosts a DP will no longer PXE. I believe this due to the WDS service not starting. Other DP's are still functioning correctly.
I have done the following to try and resolve:
    Applied http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2905002/en-us
    Reinstalled wimgapi.msi
Removed and re-added the DP according to this:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/775f96eb-011e-4b91-b9a1-264877a684da/after-upgrade-from-sccm-2012-sp1-cu3-to-sccm-2012-r2-pxe-service-role-crashes-wds-service?forum=configmanagerosd
Ensure that  Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable is installed
The server is a Windows 2012 VM.
Any suggestions for resolving this would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Locust12

When you uninstalled WDS, did you remove RemoteInstall-folder? Also I think it is the best way let confmgr to install WDS. I´ve been fighting with many WDS/PXE problems, and what I´ve learned, that the action order is very important.
If you think you´ve done it ALL twice and you are at endless loop problem solving, you might try to clean your server OS with dism /online clean-image commands, but I really don´t know, is there any other risks what might stop working after that.

  • Problems with one of the front-end servers (service wont start)

    Hi,
Having a pool with two front-end servers (Lync Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012) and I cannot get one of servers to work properly.
The Front-End service is not starting.
Have removed both servers from the topology and installed one at the time. When adding the second server to the pool the service never starts, its in starting state and a bunch of error messages appears:
    - Server startup is being delayed because fabric pool manager is initializing.
Cause: This is normal when Pool is bootstrapped and indicates that the Front-End is waiting for a quorum of other Front-Ends to be started.
    - Pool Manager failed to connect to Fabric Pool Manager.
Cause: This could happen because insufficient number of Front-Ends are currently active in the Pool.
I have tried restarted one at the time, both at the same time...
    Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState -ResetType QuorumLossRecovery
    Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState -ResetType FullReset
I have also had a look at the kb saying that there could be a certificate issue. So I have ran that script but no certificate is misplaced in any store.
I have removed the front-end certificates and requested new ones from the internal CA, I have also done the same to the OAuth certificates.
    How to proceed?

    Hi there,
if you are still receiving, the same error, please try to shutdown the first Front-End Server, and give time for the services to start, however I would like also to add that with Lync server 2013 the Enterprise pool requirements is to have 3 Front-End Servers
in a pool instead of 2, because  of introducing the brick model  architecture.

  • Samba never starts with Boot?

    Greetings to all.
Just an annoying problem I've noticed with my Quad, running 10.4.7 MOSX Server. Server was installed after the Quad had 10.4.2 installed via the restore disks using the post-install method package.
Samba/Windows Services never starts up on boot.
Serveradmin shows that the service is stopped.
Starting it via Serveradmin works just fine- no errors. Nothing in the logs ether.
Samba remains running until I reboot or poweroff the machine. It doesn't auto-launch like the rest of my services do under Serveradmin- I've got to start the bugger manually each time.
It's sort of annoying- just a quirk. I use VPN via the machine often, and sometimes Samba isn't running because I forgot to launch it when I've rebooted the machine, and it usually makes me stop for a minute and think something along the lines of "wth?".
    Cheers,
    -S'Captain

i tried to start mine too see if you could but without tsking it spasrt or casing damage im afrsid you need to just take it basck. excuse my tpos o need a better keyvboasrd.

  • WDS service will not start Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update

    Greetings,
After building my WSE box clean with new hardware and with Update version of WiSE 2012 R2, I find that it let me set up Windows Client Restore but now the WDS Service will not start for love nor money.
Any suggestions?  Am I missing a Win-PE boot Image?  Should I do something else?
    Please assist,
    Bob Hessenauer

    All,
The problem was a conflict between DHCP and WDS.  Followed the instructions in this article and all is now fine:

  • Trying to create a service that starts at boot

    People,
I'm trying to create a service that will start at boot (in single-user mode, actually). I am up and running but I do NOT want to run the service now. I only want to run the service when the machine reboots.
I've been rummaging around all day trying to figure this out but I'm stuck. I can create a service that runs. I can create an XML file in /var/svc/manifest/site/patch-install.xml that will be read when I boot- because after I boot, I can list the service:
    svcs -a | grep patch
disabled       18:23:23 svc:/site/patch-install:defaultI have inserted the following in my xml:
    <create_default_instance enabled='true' />and also
<create_default_instance enabled='false' />but it makes no difference. Anyone have any idea? What is the purpose of create_default_instance? I don't understand; item 9 on http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/selfheal/sdev_intro.html seems rather opaque to me.
Also, what exactly is the purpose of /var/svc/profile/ ? I tried putting some code to enable my xml but it didn't do anything. Just wondering if this might fit into the picture.
BTW, I do not want the login prompt to appear until my method is complete.
    Thanks.

    People,
I'm trying to create a service that will start at boot (in single-user mode, actually). I am up and running but I do NOT want to run the service now. I only want to run the service when the machine reboots.I'd probably create the service now (by importing the manifest manually rather than waiting for the reboot), then set general/enabled in the default instance to be be true with svcprop. That should tell it to start at boot, but not enable it immediately.
I've been rummaging around all day trying to figure this out but I'm stuck. I can create a service that runs. I can create an XML file in /var/svc/manifest/site/patch-install.xml that will be read when I boot- because after I boot, I can list the service:Yes, that's the default. Or you can load it immediately to create the service now.
    # svccfg import patch-install.xml
I have inserted the following in my xml:
    <create_default_instance enabled='true' />and also
<create_default_instance enabled='false' />but it makes no difference. Anyone have any idea? What is the purpose of create_default_instance? I don't understand; item 9 on http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/selfheal/sdev_intro.html seems rather opaque to me.There's a difference between a "service" like network/smtp or console-login and an "instance" like network/smtp:sendmail or console-login:default. In most cases, you just want a single "default" instance of your service. The above line sets the default instance 'enabled' property to true or false. When I import your manifest as is, the service comes in as 'disabled'. If I set it to true, it comes in as 'maintenance' (almost certainly because it was enabled, tried to start, and couldn't find the start method on my machine).
Also, what exactly is the purpose of /var/svc/profile/ ? I tried putting some code to enable my xml but it didn't do anything. Just wondering if this might fit into the picture.'profiles' are loaded exactly once, and they are mainly used to set certain services to enabled or disabled.
3 of them are loaded if present, platform.xml, generic.xml, and site.xml. The last is not generated by the OS, but left for you to use. But it's usually only useful as a "first boot" type thing. Because if you make changes to it, it will not be reread. This isn't usually a problem because after first boot you're in control of the services. The usual thing is that at first boot the manifests load to create services, then the profiles are loaded to set then enabled or disabled. This isn't possible before that point because there's no service to modify yet.
BTW, I do not want the login prompt to appear until my method is complete.Any login prompt like a network login, or only the console login prompt? If the latter, then you'll want a dependency so that system-console-login depends on your service. But if your service has a problem at boot time, you'd make it difficult to log in.

  • Exchange 2013 CU5 fresh install suffering issues with services not starting and coexistence with 2007

    Hi everyone,
Hope you can help me out on a couple of issues I've been experiencing during the initial stages of a project to upgrade an on premise Exchange 2007 to 2013.
On Monday last week I installed the first Exchange 2013 server into the network after a few weeks of careful planning, information gathering and remediation of our current Exchange 2007 environment and associated systems.
The server itself has been having some issues from the word go, some of which I've resolved but none that are show stoppers but I want to get them resolved before building more servers and setting up the planned 2 x 2 node DAG's
The main problems are as follows:
There's usually one service that does not start following an OS restart and it's not always the same service. So far I've seen the following not start: DAG Management, Migration Workflow, Anti-spam Update, Unified Messaging, UM Call Router, Transport
    Service.
The critical system event log entries are complaining of timeouts when the services are starting up but I can't imagine that the servers boot time is too long...  It's a 2 vCPU/12Gb vRAM VM, Windows 2012 R2
I receive an error in the Event Log regarding RPC over HTTP Proxy
to one of the 2007 CAS servers (not our primary one). The first error was because the Windows Component was missing but since installing it, disabling Outlook Anywhere, reenabling it, restarting the server, I now have a new error which is shown further down
    this post
The Exchange 2013 server install is pretty default, CAS/MBX roles and some basic configuration performed such as new DNS entries, Public SSL certs installed and assigned, URL's updates, SCP updated. I have review and resolved some errors from the event logs
for over chatty warnings about disk space (the warning is that we have loads of space...)
This is a brief outline of the environment:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13
UK - Two physical locations in a stretch LAN (100Mb WAN)
4 x CCR Cluster Mailbox Servers in two separate CCR Clusters
Cluster 1 - Windows 2003 R2: One physical, one virtual server - don't ask, legacy install and I know the virtual is not a supported configuration.
Cluster 2 - Windows 2008 R2: Two virtuals - New cluster built following a 4 day failure of Cluster 1. The aim was to move to supported config and decommission cluster 1.
Note: Migration of Cluster 1 to Cluster 2 was halted as 2013 was so close it seemed pointless to continue the migration and instead migrate both Clusters to 2013 once in production.
    2 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Hub Transport Servers
    2 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Client Access Servers
    1 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Unified Messaging Server
    1 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Edge Transport Server (DMZ)
    US - One physical location
1 x Physical Windows 2008 R2 - Mailbox, Client Access, Hub Transport Server
    Exchange 2013 CU5
UK - Installed into same site along side Exchange 2007 servers
    1 x Virtual Windows 2012 R2 - Mailbox, Client Access Server
Problem 2 Error Message - Please note, server names and domain name changed:

    Hi Off2work,
I've gone through the article and the Get-OutlookAnywhere commandlet looks fine (especially when compared with our working CAS).
Having looked through IIS I have spotted two additional misconfigurations with a missing setting to require SSL on the RPC folder and also the .NET version was not set.
I've now set those to Require SSL and .NET 2.0.5072 however this has made no difference following restarted of both 2007 CAS and 2013 servers.
I could potentially reinstall the CAS server or additionally decommission it as we have two of them and the other is not causing any errors with the 2013 server. This broken CAS server doesn't even have DNS records (except it's own hostname) or firewall
rules pointing to it, nor does it have any active client connections if I check with a quick netstat -a
As for UM, it's next on my list following some client/server connectivity testing so I have not yet assigned the SSL to the services or setup the dial plans, etc.
The services do start most of the time, but others then don't so it's not a consistent issue with just this service. On my current boot, the DAG Management service failed to start, but again I don't have a DAG implemented yet.
I will see if UM drops out of that list once I've configured it shortly
Thanks for taking the time to respond (and that goes to DareDevil too)

  • Generic object services (GOS) - Start workflow box is allways empty

    Dear colleagues,
i have installed a brand new IDES ERP 6.0 successfully but when entering a number of standard transactions like mm02, va03, fb03 etc and trying to execute the GOS toolbox, I can never start any workflow. I click on the 'start workflow' button of the GOS-toolboy but the selection box is allways empty. Did I miss anything? Since there are so many BOR objects that apply to the objects of the standard transactions, there should be at least something to start. For example BOR BUS1001 (material master): When in MM02, why does the GOS-toolbox for workflows not show the related workflows that use BUS1001?
Thank you very much for your answers
    Best regards
    Daniel

    Udo,
You should start a new discussion - you'll get more responses.
Anyhoo, to make a workflow appear in the GOS 'start workflow' list, just follow these simple rules:
    - confirm which BOR object is involved in your transaction (eg BUS1001006 for MM03)
    - make sure that the BOR object is a mandatory input of your workflow
    - make sure that there are no other mandatory inputs
    - make sure that the workflow (WS*) is set to 'General Task' (nb this is client dependent)
Once all these things are done, refresh the buffer (SWU_OBUF) and it should work.
    cheers
    Paul

  • SQL Server Reporting Services not starting automatically

    Hi,
I have Reporting Services configured on my SharePoint 2010 Foundation server and the service is set to start automatically under a domain account. However, the service does not in fact start automatically and requires me to manually start it otherwise when
I try to use SharePoint to read some Reports, it doesn't work. Once I start the service, it works.
Is this normal behaviour? The service will remain started until the server is restarted (Windows Updates for example). I would like the service to start automatically when needed i.e. requesting to read a Report on SharePoint site.
    Many thanks

Service should start automatic then, are you using some third party firewall that could block service?
And if you are using domain account for service, make sure it has log on as a service rights on local machine.
What is your event viewer saying?
In our domain environment we had similar problem with SQL and SSRS service, when I changed form of account for starting service from
domain\account to account@domain, problem was solved. I still don't really know how this helped.

  • NW2004s Sneak Preview Java install never starts up

I've installed NW2004s Sneak Preview Java on Windows XP Media Centre Edition with 2Gb RAM and 8Gb swapfile but the server never finished starting up properly.
I've tried with JSDK 1.4.2_09, _11, _12 and with the recommended Sun JDK parameters but always the same problem.
The MMC reports the server has started up completely, with all green icons, but when I open a browser and point at http://localhost:50100/irj or anything else I get a 503 Service Unavailable or 503 The Application Is Currently Stopped errors.
The CPU usage of the J2E service processes keep chugging away at about 70% CPU utilisation, and I left it going for 24hrs but it never finishes.
There dont seem to be any errors in the logs that indicate why it doesnt finish starting up.
Has anyone managed to do an install on XP Media Centre Edition, or any version of XP?
    Any suggestions?
    Steve

    Rich,
Thanks for the reply. I still get the same problem. MMC reports SDM, Server0 and Dispatcher all running, and  http://localhost:50100/index.html gives:
    503   Service Unavailable SAP J2EE Engine/7.00
Cannot process a request for dynamic resources.
Details:   Web Container service is currently unavailable.
fter another 10 mins or so the error message is:
    503   Service Unavailable   SAP J2EE Engine/7.00
    Application stopped.
Details:   You have requested an application that is currently stopped
There are now a few hundred error messages in defaulttrace, which indicate 70 services failed, although it doesnt explain why. This is the first error in defaultTrace while starting:
