WDS tab not found for new Airport Extreme dualband

I am unable to find where I set up a WDS. My non-dual band extreme has a WDS tab - which I can not find on the new Airport Basestation. Am I missing something?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for this answer. I just wasted lots of time on this one.
I used to have WDS working, but reset my Extreme in frustration while trying to get a newly purchased Express to properly connect. After that I was unable to even see the WDS tab again. Phooey. Why does Apple hide these menu items?
A Google search didn't help. Fortunately a search of this forum found this answer.

  • WDS available for new Airport Extreme

Apple has posted the setup guides for the new Airport Extreme and according to those manual, WDS (Wireless Distrubtion System) is available for those systems. In fact, it specifically says it can WDS with the Airport Express and older Airport Extreme.
So for all those folks who posted that WDS for the new Airport Extreme is not available simply because the posted specifications does not list it, it would be good to note that it also didn't list it as not available

Yes, according to the setup guide for the new airport extreme, the new Extreme can WDS with new Extreme in either a/b/g/n modes. If you want to WDS the new Extreme with the old Extreme and/or Express, you'll need to set it to b or g. That obvious since old Extreme and Express can only work in b or g modes.
    Indeed, very good news!

  • I can not reset my new Airport Extreme

I i recieved my new Airport Extreme about a week ago.  Right after I set this one up I noticed some issues with my wifi.  I was replacing an older model Airport Extreme and just had Airport Utility swap info for me. I figured that maybe that's where the problem is coming from.  I want to do a hard reset and start from scrath.  When I hold down the reset button, the router does nothing.  I also cannot find anywhere in Utility where it allows me to reset??

See if this KB article applies to you:
AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3
This can happen if IPv6 has been disabled. To enable IPv6 for your network interface:
Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, and then click Network.
If a lock icon appears in the lower-left corner, click it and enter your admin name and password to unlock the pane.
Click your network service (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) in the list, and then click Advanced.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose Link-local only from the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu.
    Click OK.
    Click Apply.
The AirPort device should now appear in AirPort Utility.

  • Timed Access not working on new Airport Extreme (802.11n).

I bought a new Airport Extreme (802.11n) to use as a router for my network. The network has a mixture of Macs and PCs, using a mixture of wired and wireless connections.
I configured the security settings with on the Airport Extreme to Timed Access. I set the default setting is to No Access.
Three computers are set with "Everyday, Between 8:00am and 11:00pm"; however, when it's 11:00pm, nothing happens. The three computers continue to have access.
I know the MAC addresses I entered are correct. Does anyone know why the Timed Access is not working?

Yes, the printer was initially set the same way it always was on my old router. It used to pop right up on the list. After I switched I was getting communication errors. Ok, new setup, I wasn't worried yet. When I got to the setup window and it a new printer wasn't found I tried updating drivers. No luck. I then used the IPP mode to enter the IP address with the address on the Canon screen. It failed. I then did the same setup telling it which software from the driver list to use. It still could not see it. The odd part is that the Canon can obviously  see the router as its LAN setting read active and it is receiving the IP. I have proceeded to play with every setting on the printer and it is back to factory reset. Oh, I should mention that I have also tried to use Canons network setup utility software and it can not find the connection either. So I really think this is a problem within the router. I have seen many complaints about this on other forums, but most were looking to use the usb on the print server. My Airport is nowhere near my printer and I don't want to lose my all-in-one functions. Some think hard lined ethernet is ancient, but it really is a nice setup. Fast and reliable.

  • Canon  MP 620 not recognised since new airport extreme

I've been successfully using a Canon MP620 printer and scanner wirelessly for about six months but then my old Buffalo AirStation gave up the ghost and I replaced it with a new Airport Extreme. It was a joy to get something out of the box, plug it in and have everything work from the moment I switched it on. The only problem is the Canon has disappeared and I cannot get it to appear either wirelessly or as a USB device. I have tried just connecting it to one computer by a USB cable but it's just not being detected.
We have three MacBook Pro's in the family on airport, a MacPro and an old G4 that connect by cable, oh, and er...a Dell PC. We are running a mix of 10.5.8 and 10.6.1. The main MacBook Pro that was used originally to set up the wireless system is still on 10.5.8.
The Canon still has the same settings in it that it had before. I have downloaded the latest driver from Canon but when I get to the point where it scans for printers nothing comes up whether I set it to USB or Network.
I am so frustrated as it was working so well before.
    Any ideas anyone?

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
To add the MP620 on Mac OS X 10.5 as a networked wired or wireless printer, you need to select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. For Mac OS X 10.6, you add the network printer via the Default browser view. But there is every chance that the MP620 is not connected to your new Airport, so you will need to run the network setup tool again.
To configure the network settings in the printer, you will have to connect the MP620 to your Mac or PC via USB. This will let you open the Canon IJ Printer Utility, which lets you configure the network settings. Since this is a Mac forum, I will detail the Mac procedure.
With the printer connected via USB, open Print & Fax and select the MP620 in the list. If you haven't had the MP620 connected to this Mac previously via USB, then it may take a while for the printer to appear in this list. If it hasn't appeared after 30 seconds, then click + to add the printer. Select the MP620 shown as a USB device. At the point when you select to Add, you may be prompted that the printer is already installed. If so, just cancel the install. If not, continue the procedure.
With the USB printer queue selected, open the print queue and click the Utility icon. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility. This will show you the USB attached MP620. Select it and press the Network Settings button. This will open the Canon IJ Network Tool that will guide you through adding the MP620 to your new network.
Once the network setup process has completed, you can turn the MP620 off and disconnect the USB cable. Then when you turn the power back on, the printer should now be connected to your wireless network allowing you to add it as a network printer.
On 10.5, with Print & Fax open, click to Add and then select More Printers > Canon IJ Network.
On 10.6, open Print & Fax and click to Add. Select the Default browser view.
In both cases the MP620 should be visible, allowing you to select it and add it as a network printer.
Hopefully this gets you printing again. Please reply if you need more help.

  • Toshiba pc will not connect to new airport extreme

Can not get toshiba pc windows 7 to connect to airport extreme, iPad and MacBook pro will connect
    Any rhoughts

I have a solution that has worked for me. As I could numerous post on this subject but little in a solution I spoke with Apple Tech Support.
On your Apple machine open the Airport Utility found in Applications/Utilities.
Go to the menu bar at the top of the screen and click on Base Station.
Toggle down to Manual Set Up.
When open select Airport and click on Wireless.
Go to Channel, which in my case had defaulted to Automatic and instead change it to say 1.
    Click on Update.
Fingers crossed, go back to your PC and select the little Network icon at the bottom of the screen and your Apple network should now be showing and click Connect. You should now have internet access on your PC.
I'll duplicate this as a new post for those not following this thread.

  • [Solved] Init not found for new kernels

    Hello everyone,
I am experiencing this error message when booting using either the linux-3.7.x or linux-ck-3.8.x kernels. I would investigate towards something being wrong with systemd (i.e. the init= line suggested), but the system boots perfectly fine using linux-lts-3.0.56.1.
Relevant information I can think of:
/ is ext4, LVM. The lvm -3 update has not been done yet.
    mkinitcpio 0.13.0-1
I am mostly interested in any direction towards what to investigate -- the fact that there is something wrong with the init not being found, but only for certain kernels, perplexes me.
    Thanks for any help,

  • New Airport Extreme cannot be found by Airport Utility

Previous to purchasing this new Airport Extreme(DualBand "N") I had the older model Airport Extreme. I also have two Airport Express devices. Previously, all 3 were detected immediately by Airport Utility and NEVER dropped off.
Last week I replaced my Airport Extreme with a new one so that I could use the dual band feature and the guest access.
Since then I cannot get Airport Utility to discover/find the new Airport Extreme. I can ONLY access it by using the Airport Utility > Configure Other... option.
I've tried removing all devices except Airport Extreme.
I've tried Airport Utility by wirelessly connecting to Airport Extreme.
I've tried Airport Utility by hard wiring to Airport Extreme.
    I've tried factory default settings
    I've tried factory reset
    I've tried setting values manually
    I've tried setting values automatically
I've tried older Airport Extreme firmware versions
I've tried older Airport Utility software versions
I've tried running Airport Utility from laptop
I've tried running Airport Utility from desktop
I've tried running Airport Utility from remote desktop
    I've tried waiting
What is the problem with this device/software ????? I should add that at this moment the Airport Extreme firmware and Airport Utility are both fully updated.
    Thanks,

  • New Airport Extreme (6th Gen) Dropping Connection from Time to Time.

    Problem:
6th Generation Airport Extreme drops connection intermittently at random times.
    Set Up:
6th Generation Airport Extreme (main router - no hard drive/not a time capsule) located center of house on the main floor. 2 Range extenders each approximately 30+ feet away from main router. First range extender (Airport Express - newest generation) located on the third floor parallel to main. Second range extender (Airport Express - new generation) is located at the end of the kitchen (main floor).
Main Router is connected straight from a Motorolla Surfboard modem on a foyer table at the center of the house.
Range extenders connected to Main Router wirelessly and at wall outlett height.
    Previous Setup:
Same setup as above but, with the 5th Generation Airport Extreme instead of the 6th Generation.
    Firmware:
    All current versions.
    Devices:
    1 SONY VAIO VGN-FW490J
    HP Notebook G60
    Several WEMO outlets
    1 iPad Mini
    1 iPad 2
    1 iPhone 5
    1 Motorolla RAZR MAXX
    Macbook Pro
iMac (wired from main router on foyer table)
Note: All of these routers/range extenders/modem/computers are plugged into surge protected outlets.
    Notes:
With the new Airport Extreme my family and I have been experiencing intermettent connection drops. The amber light on the main router turns on and within a few minutes turns green and connection resumes again. This has been happening for a few days now ever since I purchased the new router. This has not happened before with the 5th generation router, which I donated to our church.
I have not exchanged the product yet. I will be initiating a Complete Power Recycle after some suggested solutions in a bit. I have contacted my Internet Service Provider (Comcast) for a line check and found no problems.
Has anyone found any solutions to resolve the intermittent connection drops? Is reverting to the previous firmware going to solve this?
I would like some insights before trying to do all this. Thank you all for your time.
    P.s.
I've done a detailed post since posts like these is frequently asked questions on set-up, devices, connections, etc:

    Update:
Before I went to exchange my 6th Gen Extreme, I ran through all possible solutions from complete power recycle to no devices connected. I even went out of my way to my cousin's house to test it out. The same problem still kept coming.
I was able to exchange my 6th Gen Airprt Extreme with another 6th Gen Extreme the other day. I set it up how the instructions told me and within an hour it did the exact same problem as the previous 6th Gen Extreme. I gave up and decided to get the ASUS RT-AC66R (ASUS RT-AC66U is the same, just the 'R' is Best Buy's model.)
The ASUS router is just as great as the 6th Gen Router. You can actually get it down to $180 by price matching to Amazon. The ASUS router has 3 antennas that you can adjust according to where the signal is used more. I pointed them more towards the backyard, upstairs, and the living room. The range is by far better than the Extreme because of this. I was able to drive down a good block (3-4 houses down) and still connected to my router. Also it has 2 USB ports which was fantastic for me so I can plug in my external hard drive and a non-wireless printer. It has many more features that I really liked that I didn't even know was possible. The router utility interface is a bit confusing at first but, it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Some features that I liked with the ASUS was the ability to have multiple guest network with time limits. 3 for 2.4gHz and 3 for 5gHz. I think that Airport guest accounts are only allowed 2.4gHz but not a 5gHz. Though I only needed 1 for each but, I can see this working well for businesses.
Another feature is traffic manager. I am able to set specific bandwith for different types of use such as, high priority 80%-100% bandwith for gaming, medium priority badwith 70%-90% for HD media streaming/data transfer, and 50%-80% low bandwith for casual web surfing. It also has it's own "beamforming" so that data isn't free roamed.
Lastly it has AiCloud sync which is basically like having a hard drive into your router but, much like having a Dropbox at the same time.
More or less I think I'll stick with the ASUS router rather than going with the new Airport Extreme. I think that it's more on firmware issue than it is hardware. If you are not willing to switch to another brand and want to keep staying with Apple, I recommend going back to the 5th generation until a new firmware or rebuilt 6th gen extreme is out.
I have not found any problem with the ASUS router and no intermittent connectivity issues.
Now I am not trying to make you buy the ASUS router. I'm merely expressing how great the product is.
I do have 60 days from Best Buy return policy to try out the ASUS (and report of any malfuntions) and if within that time a new firmware is out for the Extreme. I highly doubt I'll go back to the extreme though.
    Hope this helped!!

  • Brand new airport extreme not found on utility on iPad

I Just purchased the AirPort Extreme.  My first Apple router but all of our devices are apple products with the exception of our pc.  Extreme is flashing Amber light and is not found in the airport utility app.  I want to enjoy this apple product as much as the others but it's becoming difficul.

OK, thanks for clarifying that for me.
If you have the Setup Guide handy that came with your AirPort Extreme,  please head for page 12 and locate the heading to......
Setting Up AirPort Extreme Using an iOS Device.........To Set It Up
The steps here are pretty clear, and we rarely get a question about this but, we'll go through this in case you might have missed something.
    1. Tap Settings on the iPad home screen.  Settings is the gear looking icon there.  Then, tap WiFi.  WiFi is on the left side of the screen.
    2. Tap the name of the AirPort Extreme. AirPort Extreme is located just under the heading of SET UP NEW AIRPORT BASE STATION there.
In the example below from an iPhone screen, I am setting up a new AirPort Express.  So, I would tap on AirPort Express.  You will see AirPort Extreme on your iPad screen, so you would tap on AirPort Extreme.
When you do this, that will start up the setup wizard.
    3. Follow the onscreen instructions to create a new network or extend an existing network.  The setup wizard will analyze the network and suggest the correct setup for you.
Once the AirPort Extreme has been set up, then you can use AirPort Utility to edit or modify any of the settings that you might need to adjust.

  • √using successfully airport express for internet/ when hooking up new airport extreme light glows green, but does NOT appear in devices seen????airport wifi devices

using sucessfully airport express for internet
when hooking up new airport extreme light glows green, but does NOT appear in devices sesn in 5.6 airport wifi devices
wanting to use extreme at base and express in another part of the house

How is the express getting internet? What modem is it plugged into?
How is the extreme setup? New extreme cannot be setup with 5.6 utility.. you must use latest 6.3. Which also means you cannot setup from computer using less than Lion .. or you must use iOS with latest utility but it has limited configuration cf the computer version.
IPv6 is also needed.. turn on local link.

  • New Airport Extreme: no LAN lights, base station not found

I just brought home a new Airport Extreme base station 802.11n to replace a Linksys router which I used without too much trouble (it used to boot me off occasionally, which was annoying). I want to connect to my DSL internet using an ethernet cable. There's also a PC and a Mac in the house that are wireless. However, the Airport Utility doesn't see the AEBS, I've got the classic flashing amber light, and at the back, the WAN light shows a connection to my DSL modem, but I've got no lights on my LAN ports. (I have seen them light up very briefly but they never stay on.)
I've tried resetting the modem and the base station countless times. I've reconfigured using different ethernet cables. I've disconnected the base station for over 30 minutes before powering up again. I can get a connection when I connect my modem directly to the mini. I've tried using different LAN ports to connect the base station to the computer.
What should I try next? It's a really simple setup, and all I'm trying to do is to connect to the internet.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I know you have tried a series of resets, but please try the following with your Mac Mini connected directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN ports of your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), and the AEBSn's WAN port connected (via Ethernet) to the DSL modem.
Try the following, in order, until the Mac Mini is able to access the Internet:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Help required for set up of new Airport Extreme!

I bought a new Airport Extreme and was assured the set up was super easy compared to the Linksys wireless router I had previously. With my luck, it isn't!
I basically never get to the first step of the airport utility because either the wireless connection can't be found, or the Airport Express can't be found by my computer (I get either of the two error messages). I am able to see the airport xxxxxxx network, but get the error messages even when the computer's airport eventually connects to it. Can someone help and tell me what I am doing wrong? I have tried resetting my internet modem and the Airport Extreme to no avail, I always get the yellow amber flashing light.
    Thank you

  • I just purchased a new airport extreme 802.11ac I set it up and runs fine when i put my mac to sleep i come back and it can not find my airport i have to restart

I PURCHASED THE NEW AIRPORT EXTREME 802.11AC I SET IT UP AFTER I PUT MY MAC TO SLEEP I COME BACK AND IT SAYS CAN NOT FIND AIRPORT EXTREME I HAVE TO RESTART AND IT FINDS IT.

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?
    Sigve

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise
    Regards
    Sigve
