I have just moved from using Windows all my life to buying a Mac Book Pro running on OS Lion. But my accounting softwares Tally 7.2 and Tally 9 do not run on it.
I just learnt that the software platform of Tally Accounting softwares are specific to Windows only.
I need to run the accounting software, Mail and several spread sheets and documents at the same time.
Is there some way I can do this on the Mac Lion OS?
Help solicited !Yes, you can share files across a network as long as the network server is setup so your Mac can connect to it. See Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to shared computers and file servers on a network, Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect your Mac directly to a Windows computer, Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to a Mac from a Windows computer, and Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to shared computers and servers using a network address.

Mac OS 10.5 unable to connect to Mac OS 9 server
Hi,
I just recently updated some computers to Leopard (one had Tiger the other had 10.2.8) and I am having trouble connecting to a server that is on a Mac OS 9. I am able to find the server, but neither computer can connect. I get a -5019 AFP Parm error. Both computers had no problems connecting to the server before. Apple Talk is turned on.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!Still no luck. If I revert back to an older operating system I can still connect. I can ping the server in Leopard, no problem and a tcp port was recognized in a port scan. Every time I try to connect (go/connect to server) and I type in the IP address it brings up a box asking for my user name/password. I used to connect to this server as a guest, however that now gives me a connection failed message and a -41 error. If I use the same username/password that I use on a few other servers I get the connection failed message with a -36 error. If I type in whatever I want I get the connection failed message with a -5019 error. All other users who have not updated to Leopard can still connect to that server and I can connect to all other servers on my network. When I click browse this server is not recognized on the network.
Any ideas? -
I have on iPad iPhoto, how do i import to my mac the albums that i created on the iPad iPhoto?
Here's a Mac World article that may help. Still not perfect but will help transfer edited photos. If done in groups you can re-create the Albums on the Mac.
http://www.macworld.com/article/2010727/the-ultimate-iphoto-workflow.html
Basically the process requires "Sharing to iTunes" through the iPad's app then syncing with iTunes. The shared photos will be found in the File Sharing section of the Apps tab of it's sync settings, not the Photos syncing tab.
The other method is to save your edited photos to Camera Roll and import through iPhoto on the Mac or Photo Stream. Once again you'll need to do it in groups to save your Albums then recreate them on the Mac.
I should also mention I have yet to use iPhoto on the iPad and there could very well be a better method out there. I have been researching for the best work flow to copy photos from my iPad which will be copied to the iPad with the camera connection kit, organized and edited on the iPad then copied in that state to my Mac once I get home. I like the idea behind Photo Journals while traveling and was disappointed to find they can not be saved, backed up or viewed through iPhoto on the Mac. I'm sure there are easier work flows but this is probably close to the route I will be taking.
Any other input? -

How many people can connect to the mail server 3
I am looking to grow my business which consist of a growing email base with emails that need to be set up and managed. How many emails can be hosted on the mac server?
Hello Thomas,
"MAXLOGMEMBERS" has nothing to do with the number of users that can connect to the instance. It is a parameter to control the number of files that can be assigned to a group of (redo) log files.
how many people can connect at Oracle XE?Well, that depends on how they connect. There are parameters controlling the number of sessions in the database. But if you have a technical user, e.g. when using APEX, there may be more users than sessions in the database...
So you need to clarify what kind of user access you mean.

The server returned the error: The connection to the server on port 143 timed out.
Hello,
I recently got a MacBook Pro which cam ewith Mavericks. I have entered the email addresses I use the most, they are a combination of Gmail and personal ones that are set up with two different hosting companies. After a random amount of time which may be 5 minutes after opening Mail up to 8 or 9 hours the mailboxes start giving the error 'The server returned the error: The connection to the server xxxx.xxxx on port 143 timed out.' where xxxx.xxxx is the IMAP incoming mail server, the port is 993 for the Gmail accounts. Once it happens for one the others soon follow. The same accounts on my Mac Pro still work correctly at the same time. Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I have run the Connection Doctor and while it can connect to each of the SMTP servers it cannot connect to any of the IMAP ones. A restart of Mail will cure this temporarily.Mobileme has moved to moved iCloud:

Apple Mail The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "
I have had my apple mail set up for some time now, through Gmail, and it has worked fine. I recently moved into a college dorm and now my apple mail gives me this error message
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "POP Account" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "pop.gmail.com" on port 995 timed out.
I've tried everything I could think to try, including taking the SSL off, restarting, quitting apple mail, redoing all the settings, and nothing seems to be helping me connect. I did the connectivity test and it says it's connected to the internet, it's just not getting the mail from my Gmail account. Thanks,
AaronWhat are the settings for both your Incoming and Outgoing servers, including port number, authentication method, and whether or not SSL is enabled for both?
Also, it's possible your college is blocking traffiic from Google, so you might try changing the DNS Servers by going to System Preferences > Network > Configure > TCP/IP and enter these two:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click Apply Now, quit System Preferences and restart Mail and any other Internet applications you were running. Check to see if Mail still gives you problems.

How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation?
How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation? We're waiting for our server to arrive and in the interum we're using a Pegasus 2 R6 attached to an iMac running Mavericks as our fileserver. It's been sketchy, the connection to the server being dropped once in a while or the inability to mount the drive after a week of success. The Pegasus we're using now will be attached to a server once it arrives. For now I need to figure what's coausing trouble before I commit to this being our main storage as planned. The data is backed up every night so I'm not worried, its the usability issues. 5-7 people are mounting this drive and opening/saving at the same time. Is there a limit to Maverick's fileserving ability that may be causing this? Understandable if so.
The file server in the client version of OS X has a default limit of 10 simultaneous connections. That limit can be raised by installing OS X Server, or lowered by setting a hidden preference. Assuming you've done neither, you may be able to solve the problem temporarily by stopping and restarting file sharing in the Sharing preference pane, or permanently by setting another hidden preference on the server to break idle connections quickly.
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool YES
Stop and restart file sharing. To reverse the change, run this command in the same way:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool NO

this file server will not allow any additional users to log on -
How Many systems like ECC and BI can connect to EP server
Dear experts
I want to know ,how many systems can connect to one EP server, like ECC dev,qty and prd ,and BI dev,qty and prd with JCO and SSO connection...can you please clarify
Thanks in advance
Regards
krishnaHi Krishna,
The best practice is to have separate systems for Development, Quality Assurance and Production.
Suppose you have One EP system, One ECC system, One BW System and One SRM system.
Then your landscape should be designed as stated below.
Development Environment:
Here you work on new developments/bug fixes and enhancements.
One EP System, One ECC system, One BW System and One SRM system.
And all these systems must be connected to EP system.
All of the above systems must reside in same domain.
QA Environment:
Here testing is done by testers/business.
Once you complete development and unit testing you have to transport those objects to QA system.
In this environment you have maintain all the systems similar to Dev Environment.
Production Environment:
This environment is for end users.
It should contain all the above said systems.
Here strictly no development/testing is not allowed.
Objects are transported from DEV> QA>PROD.

I am new to Mac...How do I get connected to a server on my network via a hyper link IP address path? When I try to open in a URL and login as a registered user with proper login it errors out saying there was a problem with connecting to the server?
Some of the following is going to use some technical terms — this area is inherently somewhat technical.
If you don't understand some part of the following reply, please ask.
Is this your own OS X Server system on your own network, or is this some other server within some larger organization?
You're posting this in the OS X Server forum, which is a software package that allows OS X systems to provide web-based and many other services; to become servers.
If it's your OS X Server on your network, then the network and DNS configurations are suspect, or the server is somehow malfunctioning or misconfigured. This is unfortunately fairly common, as some folks do try to avoid setting up DNS services.
If it's a larger organization and somebody else is managing the server and the network, then you'll probably need to contact the IT folks for assistance; to learn the network setup and DNS requirements, and if there's a problem with the server itself.
The basic web URL "hyper link IP address path" — without using DNS — usually looks something the following, where you'll need to replace 10.20.30.40 with the IP address of your server:
http://10.20.30.40
UptimeJeff has posted a URL that specifies the AFP file system; an OS X file share. That's used if you're connecting to an Apple storage service somewhere on your network. You might alternatively need to specify smb://10.20.30.40 or such, if it's a Windows file server. (There can be additional requirements for connecting to Windows Server systems, too.)
If there's local IT staff available here, please contact them for assistance. If these are your own local systems and your own local OS X Server system, then some information on the server will be needed. (If you're on a NAT'd network, you'll also need to get DNS services configured and working on your local OS X Server system and your network — you'll not be able to skip this step and reference ISP DNS servers here — or things can and usually will get weird.) -
TNS error ORA-12154 : can connect to one server but not to another.
Hello,
I have a Forms 6.0 application running on a Solaris box. It connects
fine to an Oracle 9.0 server but fails with ORA-12154 when trying to
connect to Oracle 10g running on a different server.
'sqlplus' can connect fine to both servers .
'tnsping'result is succesful from the Solaris client to both servers.
Configuration details are as follows. (IP Addresses have been
sanitised. I've included the client side listener and also entries for
the 'local' Oracle 8i server running on the Solaris 'client' although

As you can see, I have tried adding an alias for the default domain
name suffix '.qonnectis.com' in the tnsnames.ora files on the solaris
client and on the new 10g server.
Just to add to the fun, the 'new' server running Ora 10g CANNOT connect
to the old server running Ora 9:
sqlplus user/pass@nn_qq3
sqlplus user/pass@nn_qq3.qonnectis.com both fail.
While the old 9.0 server CAN connect to the new 10g one:
sqlplus user/[email protected] succeeds.
Sorry this is such a mess. TBH I find this whole area extremely
confusing.
All suggestions welcome. Unfortunately I am away on holiday next week
but will follow up any leads when I get back.
thanks!

How many databases can run in a server
How many databases can run in a server, how can we find how many databases are running there – in OS level for UNIX
You can have as many oracle instances as your system resources and kernel parameters allow you to.
A quick search to know how many oracle instances are running, check the OS processes:
ps -ef | grep smon
This will list all smon manadatory instance processes, this way you'll know how many concurrently instances are running.

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.
