It's normal for the Mac to set the Windows partition as the default startup disk when installing Windows since it will restart a couple of times during the install.
One way to get back to OS X is to restart and hold down the Option key. You'll get a display of the various drives you can boot to. Double click on the OS X drive.
An Option key boot is a temporary choice, and your Mac will continue to boot to Windows by default. To change that, once you're back in OS X, open the System Preferences and click on the Startup Disk icon. Click on the OS X drive to make it the default choice. -
How do I record audio using Virus TI and Apogee Duet? What is the best set up?
I am running Logic 9 with Virus TI Snow and an Apogee Duet. I have been using the Virus sound card to bounce virus sounds to audio on logic 9 but want to record the audio through the apogee sound card. How do I do this? I have tried but cant seem to monitor the sound. What is the best setup?
Also does anyone know if it will make much difference in sound quality using the Apogee sound card as opposed to the Virus?Hi,
I'm doing this from memory, as I'm not in front of my Mac right now.. but... The Apogee installer should have installed an "apogee" control panel app on your computer. [maybe re-install?].
In Logic's Menu, go to > Options> Open Apogee Control Panel, to open it [if it's properly installed...]
When you launch that app, it has an option on one of the screens to "monitor" your inputs and adjust levels in and out of logic and, bypass the latency that causes a recording delay when doing live vocals, etc.. You can find that how to do that if you get stuck, via goggle or on the Apogee site.
As far as which sound card option is better [Virus or Apogee] DEFINITELY Apogee. Apogee is "studio standard" for high quality sound in major digital studios world wide. I'm not saying the virus is bad, but Apogee is amazing.
I went back to my old recordings and mixes I did without the Apogee and was shocked at what I did NOT hear !

I have a Virus TI. When you run it as a plug-in in Logic, I believe you should be able to select and simply "render the track as audio" or "mix the solo track to disc and re-import it, directly bypassing any interface by going directly to disc [via the usb cable] for the highest quality sound. Again probably Google, YouTube [tutorial videos] or the Virus site has info or downloadable manuals or Logic tutorials..

What are the best quality settings in encore for DVD production?

I'm Paul. I was working on a HD PROJECT 1920 by 1080 30p 50mbps. I export it is using h.264 codec which produce mp4 file in pr pro cs6. When I import it in encore and export to DVD. The quality gets so dull and blurry compare to other DVD. I did not make any changes, just import and burn. It would be very helpful if some one can suggest highest quality possible settings for DVD. I even exported my project to mpegdvd. Then tried burning it with Nero 11. Every time I get error message saying, " some of the files cannot be written on the disc" and the quality is even worse if I use encore with this file. Today, I gave a try to Amrisoft DVD creator and the quality was awesome. I did nothing just imported mp4 and it burned it on the DVD. But I want to use encore since I bought the the whole production package. Thank you.You do realize, don't you, that H.264 isn't a supported CODEC on DVD? Blu-ray, yes. DVD, no. And the top bit rate for DVD is 9.8Mbps IIRC, but a more practical limit is in the 7-8Mbps range. Maximum resolution is 720x480 in NTSC contries, and 720x526 in PAL countries, again IIRC.
So if you are coming to a DVD with 1920 x 1080 30p source at 50Mbps, a lot of information gets thrown away to make a DVD. Maybe 90% gets trashed. So it shouldn't be surprising that the resulting video looks "dull and blurry" in comparison. It should if you're only looking at 10% of the source data.
When I've done work something like this -- making DVDs from HD sources -- I typically set AME for MPEG-2, a max bit rate of around 8Mbps, a target of around 7Mbps, and let AME do the down-sampling and re-encoding as it will. The resulting DVD looks pretty good to me. Not anything like as good as a blu-ray, but played in an upscaling blu-ray player it looks reasonably good.
Now, it is possible to export small amounts of HD source (less than about 15 minutes worth) to DVD in blu-ray format. DVD players will choke on it since it's a foreign format, but some blu-ray layers will play it. Looks just like blu-ray for the short time that it will play. I've never done this myself though so I can't tell you how to do it. -

No. It only supports up to 2560 by 1600 pixels so any monitor with that resolution should work.

Surprinsingly the results are different between the assistant and the VI. That strikes me a lot! I have checked alll possible configurable parameters and they have the same values as in the Vision assistant. Does anybody have an idea about what could be the reason of this behaviour? Thanks

Unable to delete email from trash bin. How do I do this? If I select and chose delete, it doesn't. What am I doing wrong? My grand daughte is using my iPad and I don't want her to see some of the mail there.
There are two ways that should work. When you are in the trash folder, you can swipe on the email in the list - left to right - and a red Delete button should pop up. Or you can select - Edit - at the top of the list of messages and then select the message and tap delete.
Not sure exactly how this works - but if you have restrictions enabled - especially since you let your grandchild use the device - that may be restricting what you can do in the mail app. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you have it set to on - turn it off or see if you have mail restricted. -
I had previously purchased the programs "Pages" and "Numbers" and they are on my iPhone and iPad I was told that the programs would automatically copy a version of itself for the iMac to be running them but I don't see it installed. How can I install for free? I see that I could go to the apple store and purchase them again but I belibve that since I had already purchased them; I would get a free copy for my Imac. Do I got something confused here? Please help.
Whoever told you that was misinformed or lying. Those applications are sold separately for the iOS platform and the Mac platform.
Go to the Mac App Store to purchase Pages and Numbers for your Mac. They're $20 each. If you are running an older version of Mac OS X that can't use the Mac App Store, you can purchase install media from Apple. -
Please help! We got a used Mac Mini and we don't have the former owner's password, so we can't install anything like flash player. Does anyone know how to get around this? I don't know how to wipe the hard drive, and the support online doesn't seem to work.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
If installing Leopard the process is similar in some respects. If you wish to begin anew then after selecting the target disk click on the Options button and select the Erase and Install option then click on the OK button. To install over an existing system do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.

2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update. -

Are there ways to only upload certain photos from my iphoto backup? It is really big and I don't want all the photos on my new computer.
There is a way to find and recover individual photos from a Time Machine backup.
1 - dowload and launch Find Any File.
2 - select the Time Machine hard drive in FAF's Find Items menu.
3 - enter the full file name of the photo you want to recover into FAF and use the Find button.
NOTE: it will take a while for FAF to retrieve and display the results of the search due to the nature of how TM makes its backups. 30 seconds or so is normal.
4 - select the file in the Masters folder and use the Space bar to verify it's the one you want with Quickview.
5 - drag the file from the FAF window to your Desktop.
6 - repeat for each photo you need to restore.

I just tried updating my iPhone 4GS and it says I have an error, and need to "restore" the phone before I can use it with iTunes??? I don't want to lose the pictures on it! What can I do to save them?

My iPod Touvh 4th Generation won't turn on. It will not charge even after I used a few chargers and will not connect to a computer. The Home button is broken and I don't know if the Lock/Sleep button is now broken or stuck as well. I believe there may be a problem with the battery or the backlight.
