We can now burn blu ray from DVD SP?

This was shown on the Apple 3.5 compressor for the pro studio upgrade.
I have a internal blu ray burner on my mac pro.

  • Best workflow for burning Blu-ray and DVD

    Hi,
What's the best workflow for effciency sake for burning both a Blu-ray and a DVD of the same project?
Essientially I'd like to export and create a menu once, then be able to downrez to DVD. However, I'm not sure that is possible since blu-ray and DVD are differnt codecs.
    Thank you

The only way that you can get acceptable re-scaling of menus is to go from BR to DVD, and do the editing in Photoshop.  Simply re-scaling the menu here will not give acceptable results.
I usually copy the various button layers from the BR menu to a new DVD menu file created using the provided Photoshop preset.  You will still have to do  some manual re-scaling and alignment.  The thing that has given me the most trouble over the years is round button highlights - a segment is often chopped off.  Font sizes will probably need adjusting too.
Unless you are adept with handling layers and groups within Photoshop, it may be easier to start again.
Any attempt to convert within Encore is unlikely to produce acceptable menus in my experience.

  • Can I burn Blue Ray Disk?

I would like to buy an external Blu Ray Burner. Can I use iDVD to burn Blue Ray. I have the latest iMac 7Cor. Thank You.

iDVD only authors/burns DVD discs.  For Blu-ray you'll need Toast or Adobe Encore.

  • Can Leopard burn blu-ray data disc?

Leopard defines types for Blu-ray discs in the header for the disc recording service.
Can Leopard burn a blu-ray data disc?

Since no Mac ships with Blu-Ray drives built-in, there's no automatic support for Blu-Ray.
However, there are several third-party applications that support burning Blu-Ray disks, including Toast.
Many after-market Blu-Ray vendors ship a copy of Toast with their burners (after all, what's the use of the burner if you can't write data to it? )

  • Can you burn Blu-Ray on a standard DVD?

I know Encore won't build a Blu-Ray movie to a DVD disc but I've seen some ppl say you can use the freeware program ImageBurn to burn the Encore build to a standard DVD as long as its small enough to fit.
The reason why I want to do it is make short HD demos of my video work on a standard DVD that can be viewed on a Blu-Ray player. DVD media is a lot cheaper than BR 50 cents vs $10 a disc and I aslo don't own blu-ray burner. For longer videos I can use a Dual Layer DVD for clients who want a HD option.
Some ppl say absolutely no, while other say yes. Someone outlined how to do it but it didn't work for me, although I only used the last part of the instructions to burn because I was using Encore to build folder or iso, while the instructions are intended for ppl ripping a retail Blu-Ray.

I'm filmed my own legit HD content, encoding it as the proper mpeg-2 blu-ray format, authored it in Encore CS3, built a blu-ray folder or iso, and using ImageBurn to wrote it to a standard DVD. All of that worked but when I took it to Best Buy their Blu-Ray player wouldn't recognize the DVD.

For what it's worth, I've been able to burn an ENcore BluRay .iso and then used Imgburn to burn the .iso to a regular DVD and it played on a SONY BDP S300.
Sometimes the firmware in the player has to be updated.

I wasn't able to burn a "folder" to a regular DVD, but only the .iso.
Also this thread where apparently the .iso can be burn to a dual layered DVD.

  • Can PE9 burn Blu-ray files to DVD?

I do not have a Blu-ray burner and do not anticipate getting one for a year or two.  I was not able to burn or copy Blu-ray files in PE7 and ask if it can be done in PE9.  I did download the trial version of Sony Vegas HD Movie Studio Suite and was able to burn the Blu-ray files to the hard drive and to a DVD; that DVD played brilliantly on both Samsung and LG Blu-ray players.  I have a lot invested in Premier over the years and would prefer to upgrade.
The machine is 2.67ghz dual core, 4gb of RAM and a 500gb RAID 0 hard drive with more than 175gb free.

Lots of other posts on this subject in this forum
    Yes it can - but
My first attempt played on other players except my new Pioneer player. (Full HD)
The video on the disk was perfect on my computer.
I copied the file produced on the Blue Ray disk and used a simple authoring program (PowerProducer that cam with my burner) to burn another disk.
    This plays perfectly in everything.
The only thing I can think of is that my LG player can write at 8x but I only had 4x blank disks (they are much cheaper). PE9 does not have any speed setting so perhaps the "grooves" werent burnt deep enough??
or the name of the main folder on a PE9 burnt disk is different - maybe my player did not like it??
I have a similar computer setup to you except you definately need at least 2 hard drives. The video on one and the project on a second one.
You need a good fast video card for HD smooth preview, not just the one on the motherboard.
Also look at recent posts on memory settings for resources.
I split my raid up to 2 seperate disks and installed a third large disk for video capture files
    OS & PE9 on C
    Video on E
Project and adove cache files on F
LG computer burner is available for around $100

  • Burning Blu-ray from FCP?  Seems I've encountered a glitch.

    Followed these instructions (Ken Stone):
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/burn_br_mac_superdrivestone.html
Only difference is instead of using SD disks as instructed in those guidelines, I'm using actual Blu-ray disks with an external Blu-ray burner. The external drive is turned on and plugged into my mac and I chose it as the burning device (meaning my mac recognizes the drive).
Well, the export process finished and it didn't prompt me to insert a blank disk for burning, but it left the Blu-ray and AC3 file in my desktop.
How can I take those files and now create a Blu-ray disk? Is that something I can do from FCP or Compressor? I'm kinda stumped.
    Any help is appreciated!

Ha... yea, it was a total blonde moment on my part (I have blonde hair and I have the moments frequently... haha). BUT! The question still stands! Because the drive wasn't plugged in it didn't burn the DVD, it just saved the video and audio file to do so. So is it possible to get them back in somehow to burn the disk w/o having to go through the LONG export process again?
Fortunately, I guess because it didn't recognize the drive, FCP actually turned it into a disk image. I found that file this morning in my 'Movies' folder. I was then able to open Disk Utilities and burn it that way. I'm the proud new father of my first Blu-ray disk! Needless to say, the results are STUNNING. I'm totally blown away.
I'm gonna mark this as 'answered' because I found the disk image... but just for the heck of it... I'd still like to know if there's a way to get the BD file and AC3 back into Final Cut, should I not be so fortunate to get a disk image again in the future.

  • PE7 Locks up while burning Blu-Ray from AVCHD project

I am having problems burning my completed project to Blu-Ray.  It is a large project at just over 2 1/2 hours but I have successfully burned projects like this in the past.  My source files were AVCHD from my Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder.  I know that AVCHD is very challenging for even the fastest PCs so I knew to break the project up into approximately 20-minute segments to complete my edits, voiceovers, transitions, etc.  I then converted each of these files to MPEGs in the format H264 1920 X 1080i 30.  I imported all of my individual H264 projects into a single new project and I even rendered that complete mega-project before attempting to burn.
The resulting file burned to DVD without a problem of any kind.  But when I try to burn the project to Blu-Ray, I get tantalizing close to the end (98 - 99%) and then encounter some sort of error.  Sometimes the program will pause with a dialog box saying that PE is runnning low on memory and that I should save my project and "proceed with caution".  Sometimes if I click "OK" the encoding process will resume, but most times it just freezes at that point.  And often the project will halt at 98% without ever giving any error messages.  All that you see is the label on the progress bar chart changes from "encoding media" to "error."
I've had this failure to complete burning about six times in various forms.  I even tried making two half-sized projects out of my big one and the smaller ones bombed in exactly the same way.  I've tried disabling all background programs such as defraggers, virus scans -- anything I could think of that would be competing for my system's memory.  All to no avail.  But, of course, it takes at least ten hours before you find out that you are still having the same problem.
My computer is about six months old and I tried to get the top-of-the-line at the time.  I have an Intel quad-core processor @ 2.66 GHz, 4 GB of DDR2-800 RAM, ATI Radeon 3650 video card with 512 MB on-board memory, 500 GB hard drive (that had about 425 GB free when I started) and Win XP SP2.
These same techniques and hardware burned a 1 1/2-hour AVCHD project for me about six months ago with minimal hassle, but all the same procedures this time have had nothing but failure.  Anyone got any ideas about where I am going wrong?

Yes, it surprised me too.  Not sure what to make of it but I fear it is only an indication of how flawed the processes are for my particular burn.  No, no scene markers closer than a couple of minutes to each other.  Most are separated by 15 minutes or so.
I placed the menu markers by clicking on the scene in the sceneline view.  Silly me, I just assumed that the first frame in the scene is where the menu marker would be placed.  Didn't work out that way.  You really couldn't see the offset until you blew the timeline scale 'way up.  However, I had noticed while previewing the project that some of the scene markers seemed to be off a bit.  In other words, when I clicked on a scene to preview it, I seemed to get a flash of a few frames of the previous scene before the view switched to what I had anticipated seeing.  I didn't think too much about it at the time and dismissed it as one of the approximations used in the preview process.  Closer investigation yesterday showed the offsets to be genuine.
But the heartbreaking thing about those offsets is that correcting them didn't have any effect on my problem.  The burn process still froze at 98%.
I'm suspecting now that "98%" is not 98% of the timeline but rather 98% of all the processes that the software is going through in formatting the data for burning.  In my continual clutching at straws, I'm going to turn my scrutiny next to the musical background tracks that I added to my project.  There are unquestionably gaps between those tracks.  The software simply would not allow me to butt two background music tracks right up against each other.  Every time I tried to drag and drop them into that position, the software would offset my video track by the duration of the music clip I was trying to add.  Only when I offset the music clip a couple of seconds would the video clip stay where it was.
God and the software developers only know if such a thing could be a problem for burning an AVCHD-based project.  I know for sure that I had these audio gaps in previous projects and they never seemed to cause a problem.  But the size of my current project may be driving the processes into areas where they are not able to reliably go.
I've got a couple of things to try next.  I'm going to delete all of the background music tracks to see if a fault in their rendering may be what is going on at the 98% point in the burn process.  The second is to position myself in front of my computer when the process reaches 98% thereby to see if any "magic" dialog boxes spring up to explain what is happening.  What I've been doing so far is to just let the burn process go while I go off to do other things - like sleep.  This time I'm going to make it my mission to be there at 98% to see if there will be any leads to what is breaking down at that point.
This has been a very frustrating process.   I've basically tried to do exactly what I did successfully a couple of times before.  Last time I successfully burned an AVCHD-based project, I wrote out a set of step-by-step procedures so that I would not leave out any of the esoteric little steps that can be so important.  I've followed them religiously but this time they haven't worked.  Aaaarrrgghhh!!!!

  • Burning Blu-ray from FCS 7

I want to try burning an HD project to blu-ray. I can see that it is possible to use the 'Share' function to author directly from FCP. My questions:
    1. Is there a specific burner required that will operate with an iMac intel 11.1 or will any external mac compatible blu-ray burner work? I imagine firewire 800 would be the connection required?
    2. I have imported my 5D Canon HD footage converting it to apple ProRes 442 1920 x 1080 (pal) and am assuming this format will export from theFCP timeline project using the 'share' option.
    3. If There are problems using the share function I expect to try the compressor and adobe encore authoring and I guess the same questions above would be relevant.
Grateful for any helpful feedback, but particularly in relation to buying a blu-ray burner which is my next step.

    Hi Tony,
    1. Just got an external BR player from these people, connects via USB, works great : www.mcetech.com
    2. Share from FCP doesn't work very well. Better to export as Quicktime at current settings then drop into Compressor and go from there.
    3. Never tried Encore but Toast also works well.

  • Can't Burn Blu-Ray

I recently filmed a wedding, edited in Premiere CS5, and encoded to  MPEG-Blu-Ray (.m2v files). I created a project in Encore CS5 and clicked  Build when I was ready. After it built the menus, it tried to begin the  burn. However, before it began, I received a "Blue-ray Error device not  ready Code 3 note AS storage error -97060" message. There is hardly  anything online about this. I have a Pioneer BDR-206 12x burner, and am  using Verbatim 25GB BD-R discs. I also tried some Optical Quantum 25GB  4x discs, with the same error. I then updated the firmware of the  burner. The project is only 14GB. I've heard that having long file names  can sometimes mess things up, but all mine are less than 10 characters.  I also tried building a blu-ray folder, and burning that in Nero 10,  but still got the same results. My guess is that it's the burner, but I  can successfully burn DVDs with it. I've also used the same verbatim  discs successfully. I can't even do a disk error check in windows,  because of a non-descriptive error. I wish there were more on this error  in the manual. Any feedback would be appreciated!

As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems

  • Can't Burn Blu-ray with Share

Content shorter than 20 minutes usually burns ok. Content longer than 20 minutes fails with message "check to see if boot volume has sufficient space." I've tried directly from FCP and via Compressor with same error. Uninstalled and reinstalled and updated latest FCP Studio. Able to burn with Toast 10 but would prefer to use FCP. Name brand discs. Lots of free disk space. No other apps running. Comments welcome. Suggestions other than Encore are welcome. Thanks.

I have actually not had any issues with Share, whether to DVD or Blu-ray HD, particularly in Snow Leopard. I did find the share to MobileMe flakey, as to duration of time required, but don't do that much. There is the oddity that DVD+R media will not work with Create Disc -- only DVD-R.
Creation of the discs are very fast.

  • Can i burn blu ray data?

so ive read that mac doesnt support blu ray natively. but it CAN burn and read blu ray data (not natively) correct?
im about to get a panasonic UJ240 as an external so i can swap the drive back and forth with my PC as well as take it mobile with me and would like to know what I need to be able to burn discs with my macbook pro (snow leopard). ive read that toast does it, anything else as that software is super expensive. Something simple like Burn? I know burn doesnt do it.

You will need to buy an external Blu-Ray drive, since your iMac doesn't support these disks.
OWC has a selection of Mac-compatible drives.

  • Burning blu-ray from imovie

I have tons of HD footage in imovie and want to start putting these onto blu-ray discs. i have a pioneer bd-rw and toast 10. thought it would be pretty plug-n-play but when i started dragging my events into toast, i was limited to 98 clips, which amounted to 4 gb of footage when a disc can hold 23 gb! how do i get around this?
i have so much footage and so little time to do video editing, etc. all i want is to put my raw unedited footage onto blu-ray disc. can anyone help? thx!

I agree with Winston. My guess is that Toast is not running out of space. It is trying to create a menu item for each separate clip, and runs out of space in its menu creator. When you create a project and make a movie, it will only take one menu slot. Or you can add chapter markers if you want to subdivide further with creating a menu item for every clip.

  • Can't burn Blu-ray disk image because get error message, "The operation couldn't be completed. (DSPPublishing error -1012.) What does it mean?

There was an error creating your disk image. The operation couldn't be completed. (DSPPublishing error -1012)

I don't have a background image. I called Apple and they had no idea what that error number meant. I deleted preferences for FCPX still didn't work, then delted all preferences and set up a new user. It now works. Apple has no idea what is going on.

  • MacPro will burn dvds but won't burn blu-rays anymore?

I've been using Compressor (ver. 3) to burn blu-rays and dvds of my movie for several months just fine.  A few days ago after opening my blu-ray project in Compressor it did the usual: tray opens and it says "Please insert blu-ray media…"  I put a blank disk in (the same kind I've been using all along) and pushed the keyboard eject button to close the tray but it didn't move.  I manually pushed the tray closed and I could hear it spin up several times and then it spit the disk back out.  I repeated this several times with no luck.  I tried different blu-ray media (didn't work).  I tried burning a dvd and it DID work, so I'm thinking it's not the blu-ray drive.  However I tried burning with Disk Utility and it wouldn't work.  I also tried to make a blu-ray burn folder and it wouldn't work.  It doesn't make sense that it can burn dvds but not blu-rays.
I'm not sure what else to do.  I haven't upgraded (still on Lion).  Would upgrading to Mavericks fix this?  Everything's been working great so I didn't want to upgrade and mess it all up.  I fear taking it to an Apple Store will cost more than purchasing a new blu-ray burner.
Any thoughts or advice?  Thank you for your help!

    Upgrade to Yosemite.
