We can't install Office 2013 64-bit on a Win 7 PC that had a 32-bit version of Office

We have a development PC running Windows 7 64-bit. This PC has been around for a while, and way back had various 32-bit versions of Office installed, starting with Office 2003 through 2010. Those versions were uninstalled and Office 2013 Pro
Plus 32-bit was the latest version installed. That version was uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller then the registry was cleaned using JV16 to make sure leftover junk from the prior 32 bit version(s) was removed so we could install Office 2013 x64
Pro Plus, which we now need for testing. It won't install because the installer sees something left over from the prior 32 bit version(s). We can't wipe the PC and start over; it has special sensor hardware and software that we can't move to a different PC
and we're on a tight timeline. We searched the registry and the Program Files (x86) folder and subfolders for anything left over from Office without any luck. The error message reads:
We can't install the 64-bit version of Office because we found the following 32-bit
programs on your PC:
Please uninstall all 32-bit Office programs, then try reinstalling 64-bit Office.
Note that the error message doesn't list the name(s) of any "32-bit programs on your PC" in the error message.
Anybody have an idea how to force an installation of 64-bit Office 2013 Pro Plus?

these tips will help you clean ALL of the bits and pieces of various Office versions you mentioned.
It is not just Office, there are a few other 32 bit MS applications that may block 64 bit installations:
Blocking and nonblocking Office applications in 64-bit installations
If 32-bit Office applications are installed on a computer, a 64-bit Office 2010 installation is blocked by default. The following section (Applications that block a 64-bit
Office 2010 installation) lists the applications that block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation. The next section (Applications that do not block a 64-bit Office 2010
installation) lists exceptions; that is, applications that do not block the installation. In such cases, installation of 64-bit Office proceeds even if the listed 32-bit applications are installed on the computer.
Applications that block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation
The following applications block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation:
Microsoft Office Excel Viewer
Access database engine of Microsoft Access 2010
Microsoft Office 2010 (Click-to-run)
Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system
Applications that do not block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation
The following applications do not block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation:
Microsoft Visual Studio Web Authoring Component 2007
2007 Microsoft Office system 64-bit components
Microsoft Office 2010 (OEM pre-installation)

  • Can I install Windows 7 (64 bit) on late 2013 edition of MacBook Pro?

Can I install Windows 7 (64 bit) on late 2013 edition of MacBook Pro using Bootcamp? Before today, I would have never even asked this question due to the large number of users who continue to use Windows 7 in the PC world!  However, there seems to be two conflicting links on the Apple site.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3986
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
From the first link, there is a statement as follows: Mac Pro (Late 2013) only supports Windows 8 (64-bit).
From the second link, the table (under MacBook Pro) clearly states that the Retina, 13 inch, late 2013 edition supports BOTH Windows 8 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit.
So the above information is conflicting; and as a result, I am confused!  Thanks for any responses.

As far as I am aware your computer supports Win 7 and Win 8 - 64-bit.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7
or Windows 8.  For Boot Camp 4.0 and above you can only use
Windows 7 or later. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

    Hi,
Which Office 365 Home Premium editions did you install? 32bit or 64bit? Office 2013 doesn’t support running side-by-side installations of 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Office. For example, you can’t install Office 2010 32-bit side-by-side with Visio
2013 64-bit. This applies to both Windows Installer (MSI) and Click-to-Run installations of Office 2013. If you try to do this, you'll receive the error message and be prevented from continuing:

To resolve your issue you can install Office 365 Home Premium 64 bit + Visio Professional 2013 64 bit version.

Can I install Mountain Lion 64-bit over top of 32-bit version installed by mistake.  Machine is 24-inch mid 2007 iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (64-bit?)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mountain Lion is a full 64-bit operating system. Why do you think Mountain Lion is 32-bit in your computer?
To check that you are definitely using a 64-bit operating system, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    uname -a
Then, tell us what you see at the end after RELEASE. If you see i386, you are running a 32-bit operating system. If you see x86_64, you are using a 64-bit operating system. Also, the processor of your Mac is 64-bit

  • I can't install Office 2011 on my retina MBP. Any ideas?

I can't install Office 2011 on my retina MBP. Any ideas?

It's a Retina MBP that has no aftermarket software on it. I'm trying to install Office 2011 from the install DVD. The message (unhelpfully), at what one hopes is the end of the install says that there has been an error and the install has failed. I have disabled the privacy setting to allow the MBP to accept installs from "anywhere" to no avail.
The disc goes in fine and the process starts but ends with a install failed message.

  • Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

I have a custom built Java 6 application that doesn't like Photoshop CS5 64 bit edition.  The program copies over a file from the network to the local machine and then opens it in Photoshop.  The user manipulates the image and saves the changes.  The user then completes the image and the application copies the image back to the server.  The problem we're having is: When we use Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it takes about 2 minutes for Photoshop to open the image.  The file is copied over within 2 seconds and the Photoshop icon on the windows taskbar starts flashing.  But then you spend a few minutes waiting for it to open.
Some things that I have tried to isolate the problem:
    - I found you can copy the file somewhere else, double click on it and the image will open in Photoshop before the script is able to open the file.
    - I tried uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling just the 64 bit edition without the 32 bit installation.  The script just stops working in this situation.
    - I tried uninstalling CS5 and installing CS3.  The image opens as soon as the file is copied over.
What I would like to try next is to install just the CS5 32 bit version.  But the installer is being uncooperative and will only allow either the 64 bit version or both the 64 and 32 bit versions.  So, back to my question: Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

Do you mean schroot?  If so I'm not sure exactly how well that will work out, because the part that depends on python is a deamon that handles communication between the USB dongle and the Tux Droid which may mean hacking the deamon a bit so ether way this does not seem like it will be a easy task.

    Hey Debbiered1,
Follow the steps in this link to resolve the issue:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Take care,
    Delgadoh

Why is your "requirement" to install in graphical mode?  Once you are past the installation itself, the only thing that buys you is that your server will have been configured to boot up to runlevel 5, running a graphical desktop (gnome or kde, I forget which).  And what does THAT buy you on a server?
I do not run ANY of my Linux servers "in graphical mode" -- running a graphical desktop.  Nor did I run a graphical desktop when I had Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX servers.

Are there any things to consider / do differently?

You are certainly welcome to try.  We have not tested this environment in anyway and you may face difficulties with Adobe Creative applications that require heavy use of the CPU.  I also would be surprised if Acrobat could be installed in this environment due to it's dependencies to system resources.

  • Can't install Office 2013 64 bit

We just purchased a new Dell workstation which came with Office Pro 2013. Of course the only thing we get now is a piece of paper with the product key and instructions to go to office.com to get the program. I tried this but there are no options to do anything.
I go through the steps and it automatically downloads a setupx86.exe file which installs the 32 bit version. I don't want the 32 bit version and I have spent hours trying to figure out how to get the 64 bit version installed with no luck. With 2010 I was able
to download the 64 bit version and install it. I realize this is all because of piracy but on the flip side Microsoft is going to loose existing customers because it's so hard to do a simple install. How can I do this!?
    Thanks

I figured out a method to bypass this issue. The method marked as the answer above will work for a retail purchase attached to a microsoft account
that has already been activated before. This seems to be a recent change to the retail license system.
The way this works is that you got to office.com/setup and type in your product key. That takes you to a page that asks you to login into your microsoft account and then after that it takes you to a download page that shows your product key and has a download
link. At this point, there are NO "Additional Install options." It appears you now have to download you product, install, and activate before the product appears in the "My Products" page with the additional install options (note, it did
not used to be this way...seems to be a recent change.)
By default, the install link in the initial download page will only do x86. the way I got around this was to literally go into the page source code, find the download link for that button, copy and paste it into a url box, and change the "platform="
part from x86 to x64. Below is an example:
    c2rsetup.officeapps.live.com/c2r/download.aspx?ProductreleaseID={YOUROFFICEPRODUCT}il&language=en-US&platform=x86&token=.......
    to ...platform=x64...
After that, hit enter and it should download the installer for x64. PS be careful with that link as it has your product key in as the "token."
This is really an oversight that should be fixed. After the initial installation and activation, if you go into your my account page it will show up with additional options but prior to initial installation the product doesn't seem to show up in your my
products page with options or (in my case) at all if you just login which forces you to have to go through the office.com/setup page to get back to the inital download page
Hope that wasn't too convoluted and hopefully it helps people in the same boat I was.
