Why is your "requirement" to install in graphical mode? Once you are past the installation itself, the only thing that buys you is that your server will have been configured to boot up to runlevel 5, running a graphical desktop (gnome or kde, I forget which). And what does THAT buy you on a server?
I do not run ANY of my Linux servers "in graphical mode" -- running a graphical desktop. Nor did I run a graphical desktop when I had Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX servers.

Not able to install oracle fial over software
Hi all,
This is SAP Evironment
SAP : ECC6.0
OS : WIN2003
ORACLE : 10g
I am not able to install Oracle failover software.
I saw in note 986758
Change the last line of the script sapofs.cmd from the temporary
directory of
@"%rootdir%\install\setup.exe"
to
@"%rootdir%\install\setup.exe" -jreLoc=
c:\TEMP\OUIIA64\stage\Components\
oracle.swd.jre\1.4.2.11.0\1\DataFiles
When doing so, replace the name of the directory "C:\TEMP\OUIIA64"
with the name of the temporary directory that you created during the
installation of the Oracle software database
I am not understanding what exactly this meaning.
Please anybody help me in the loop
Thanks®ards
RamakrishnaHi Ramakrishna reddy ,
Installing Oracle 10.2 on Itanium 2 systems on Windows contains the following sections.
1) the Microsoft HotFixes required for the installation and operation of the database
2)the installation of the Oracle 10gR2 database software
3) the installation of the current Oracle 10gR2 patch set
4) the installation of the Oracle FailSafe server software 3.3.4.
I guess the first 3 sections you have completed. The 4th section (installing Oracle FailSafe server) point 3 says the following
Change the last line of the script sapofs.cmd from the temporary
directory of
@"%rootdir%\install\setup.exe"
to
@"%rootdir%\install\setup.exe" -jreLoc=
c:\TEMP\OUIIA64\stage\Components\
oracle.swd.jre\1.4.2.11.0\1\DataFiles
When doing so, replace the name of the directory "C:\TEMP\OUIIA64" with the name of the temporary directory that you created during the installation of the Oracle software database in step 3.
Here the step 3 points to the section 2 (installation of the Oracle 10gR2 database software). i.e it is referring to the point 3. i.e
Create a temporary directory, for example, C:\TEMP\OUIIA64. Note
that this directory is also required for the installation of Oracle
Failsafe (see below).
You have to replace directory "c:\TEMP\OUIIA64" with what you have given as temp directory while installing Oracle 10gR2 database software.
Hope this clarifies now.

Arun. -
Not able to install oracle DB 11.2.0.2 on Linux
Hi,
I tried installing Oracle DB 11.2.0.2 on RHEL 5.2, 5.5 and 6.0 but all the times, I am getting an error saying
"/tmp/database/install/.oui: cannot execute binary file"
The Kernel version for RHEL 6.0 is 2.6.32.71. Both the zip files were extracted appropriately. This is causing a lot of havoc. Please suggest a suitable solution for this.
Your immediate reply will be highly appreciated.Yes, I have downloaded the correct package. Its a 64 bit Linux and have followed all the pre-requisites from the link http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24326/toc.htm
All the package versions are the latest and none of the steps have been missed. I am running this in a VM and on standard Intel Server(not IBM Server). Hence, please help me outI'll assume you haven't posted the full error message, which is possibly why others like Ed are pointing at a different direction. I still think you are running into an issue mentioned in other threads (e. g. {message:id=9543783}, as referenced by Helios above) and MOS (e. g. 980695.1), where this message is usually generated by the runInstaller wrapper when some platform dependent requirements are not fulfilled.
Could you please post the complete command (including its base path) you execute to run the installer and the output of the following commands mentioned (equally or similarly) in the installation guide
uname -a
cat /proc/version
/sbin/sysctl -a |grep -v net.
ulimit -Sn
ulimit -Hn
ulimit -Su
ulimit -Hu
ulimit -Ss
ulimit -HsAnd did you configure the xhost properly? You can't run the graphical installer without X-Server...

Edited by: user1997872 on Jan 4, 2012 7:07 AMIt looks like you will have to uninstall "libaio1", but I don't know for sure and don't have Ubuntu 10.4 available right now to play with.
Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.
If you need to install XE on Ubuntu, I'd rather suggest 11gR2 XE:

Re: Not able to install oracle database 11.2.0.2.0 in Windows 7
Hello,
I too am facing a similar issue while installing Oracle 12c Datbaase on a Virtual box machine with Windows 2008 R2 OS Image.
Cause - Failed to access the temporary location.
Action - Ensure that the current user has required permissions to access the temporary location.
Additional Information:
- Framework setup check failed on all the nodes
- Cause: Cause Of Problem Not Available
- Action: User Action Not Available
Summary of the failed nodes
ntejani-vbox2
- Version of exectask could not be retrieved from node "ntejani-vbox2"
- Cause: Cause Of Problem Not Available
- Action: User Action Not Available
My HOst machine is windows 7 and I have allocated 4GB of physical memory and 4 Processors to the Virtual Machine.
I believe this is a decent config for Oracle 12c Database. M also logging on to this system with a Admin Rights User and invoking the Installation using this User.
Earlier I had Oracle 11g Database installed on this along with Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control.
Recently I wanted to upgrade to Oracle 12c Database for which my multiple upgrade attempts failed with the above error. So I thought the system might be requiring some minimum. spare on the C Drive.
I decided to go ahead with Oracle 11g De-install and further attempted to install 12c Database. However the problem still persists .
Any help and clues on how to Resolve this issue is highly appreciated.

Nayan Tejani

Not able to install Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit on Windows 7 Enterprise 64
I am having issues. I get "Central Inventory is not locked" and Oracle 11g R2 just closes itself.
I had some previous installations of Oracle, but I am unsure how to get rid of them all. I already removed the registry keys associated with Oracle. Any help here? One user above reported installing the 64 bit odbc drivers and then the 32 bit drivers. How did you do that? I'm a neophyte to this.
I'm trying to get a 32 bit ODBC oracle driver to work on a server 2008 R2 machine. I downloaded the 11gR2 x64 client from oracle. The install process makes no mention of 32bit vs 64bit installation. After running the instalation I can run the ODBC administrator and generate a DSN for oracle. When I run the 32 ODBC administrator there is no oracle driver available except the microsoft driver for oracle. When I select that it says that I need to install oracle.
I had at first tried to install 11g instant client. However that didn't work for the 2008 R2 machine. It complained about some registry error when I tried to run the ODBC install program. I need to get it to work for a customer asap. -

Not able to install Oracle VM Server and VM Manager on the same PC?
Hi, I've installed Oracle VM Server an created a VM for Oracle VM Manager (from template). Now I want to use the Oracle VM Manager to create another VM from template. I've untared the template and stored it in /OVS/seed_pool. However, when I go to "Resources -> VirtualMachineTemplates -> Import" and try to "Select from Server Pool (Discover and register)", I cannot discover anything (there is no server pool to select)!!
I have one Server Pool containing one Oracle VM Server. Also one VM for the OracleVMManager.
I appreciate any advise.HI,
make sure you have created one sub folder before start import.

Want to install Oracle Linux Rel.6 and have a graphical interface
After reading:
Does Oracle Linux Rel.6 have graphical capabilities
How do you install the GUI for Oracle Linux Rel 6?Dude wrote:
I'm glad you did not take my remark to call you a Linux enthusiast in bad way. It certainly was not meant to be a bad comment, but it's was probably silly of me to make such a remark anyway. I do not take personally offence easily in a forum like this. No, if you want to offend me, post poor code and claim it as the best thing since slice bread. ;-)
I guess I strive to be liberal, but by definition I don't think I really fit into any political wing.Likewise. Find politics a necessary evil to keep abreast of - such as the election in the US.
Back to Linux and your example, I have used such interfaces for many years too. Unfortunately we often have to use what is provided. However, the reason for the text interface is no longer valid, unless your input device is only a text based terminal. Not as much the input device - heck, pure tty devices are pretty much a thing of the past. It is about the complexity of the infrastructure between you and the device you need to administer. And about the task you need to perform.
The connectivity can mean being unable to run a GUI - due to performance, firewalls, router configurations and so on. The task at hand could very well be easily done, using the relevant o/s commands via a command line interface.
I think there is nothing against a GUI app that runs on your PC to sends appropriate commands to a text interface over a slow serial link, apart from the effort that is required to interact with errors, etc.Much more complex than that. A terminal server is usually used - and it attaches to the serial/RS232 connections of multiple devices that need to be administered. It will typically reside on a separate management network too, and not on the local company/corporate intranet.
So for you to access a device to administer, you need an open firewall to the management network to reach the management server that handles the serial console connection for the device you want to administer. You need a valid o/s account on that terminal server. You need to use ssh to access the command line of that terminal server. You need to enter the relevant command that will attach your ssh session to the RS232 console connection to the device to administer.
There is no GUI app on your side that can not only automagically do all this for you, but also provide you with GUI admin widgets to send commands to the remote device. Even if that remote device being sysadmin'ed is Linux, different distros and different versions of the same distros, means different commands, variances in command line parameters for such commands, and so on.
A sysadmin that cannot deal with such situations, and need a GUI as a crutch to administer a device.. I for one will not call that person a sysadmin. I would call the person incompetent instead. Harsh views perhaps, but being sysadmin is an unforgiving job. A mistake, or inability to access a device and fix it using the bare minimum, could result in severe financial loss for the company.
