"we could not complete your itunes request. An unknown error occurred. (-1202)

I've been unable to connect to the App store or the iTunes store using my Macbook pro (OSX 10.6.8). I can load itunes and play music and I can sync with my iphone, ipod touch, ipad. and other iphones I have, but the itunes app store doesn't come up and I get this gray box with
               "we could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occurred. (-1202).".
The amazing thing is, I can connect on any of these other devices, download apps, and sync apps with my laptop. I just can't access App store using my laptop which is frustrating as can be because I can't purchase or even TRY any apps for my macbook. I've scoured the internet and been unable to find anyone with a similar problem other than deleting "shipfinder" app which I don't have. There are solutions for PC users but I'm a Mac user, so if anyone out there can help me with this I'd truly appreciate it.
Another interesting thing is that if I log on to my guest account on my laptop, App store works fine. It's on my own account (administrator) that it won't work, which implies it has something to do with my account (duh)....cache? cookies? Not sure. Anyone out there have any idea? Thanks so much!

Hello m295,
The following article contains several troubleshooting steps that can help restore functionality to the iTunes Store on your mac.
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
Troubleshooting on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. To configure your firewall, please refer to the "Blocked by firewall" section in this article.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Click here to find out how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you are receiving a specific error message you may want to see, the "Specific Conditions and Alert Messages" section in this article as needed.
If the issue still persists, contact your internet service provider and confirm that the ports and servers in this article are enabled over your network.
Additional Information
If the steps above did not resolve your issue, be sure that your specific alert is not listed in iTunes: Possible iTunes Store errors. Then, if your issue is still unresolved, follow steps in iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting.
Cheers,
Allen

    Same problem here. My user1 account (non administrator - but not managed ie. standard) ok for itunes store. My new user2 account (managed/parental) not ok - hangs for about 10 mins then gets the above (-50) error message.
    The user1 I created while setting up my imac was originally an admin account. iTunes store always ok here. I created a new Admin account. Took out administrator privilege on user1. User1 still ok with itunes store. Admin account also ok with store.
    Created user2 - managed / parental - enabled access to itunes. Also enabled parental itunes store access in iTunes preference settings. No go for user2.
    Disabled firewall - still not ok for user2.
    Made user2 into administrator - this acct can now access itunes store.
    Took out admin privileges of user2. Again - error (-50) comes up.
    Made user2 into standard (non managed). Store still not ok.

  • We could not complete your iTunes request...message

    Morning folks, I'm sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, I have looked but can't see it. I need to access the iTunes store from my work laptop, (I have iTunes installed) and when I go to, this message pops up-We could not complete your iTunes request. You do not have permission to access the requested resource. I do remember adding my laptop as one of the five machines I can have. I tried to double check my account to see which computers are authorised but 'it' will only let me de-authorised all of them. Any suggestions would be great,
    Thanks

    Authorization or lack thereof would not normally affect the ability to access the iTunes Store itself. It may be that something on your work computer or work network is blocking access to the Store. Run the Network Diagnostics in iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3204
    and post the results here. That may provide some clues.

    I have seen other threads with this whole thing about going to 'Window' then to 'Keychain list' and then clicking on the login and saying 'Global' but to no avail..theres no global checkbox on my keychain list and the keychain list option is under 'edit' not 'window',.
    Someone please help!

    Hello Embassykw,
    It sounds like your iTunes Store page does not load and instead gives you an error code. I found this error code in an article that will be helpful for you named:
    Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123
    The cause for these issues is a program that monitors the Winsock protocol for Windows conflicting with Apple software. These programs usually use a Layered Service Provider (LSP) that can help identify the particular program installed. The programs that monitor this protocol have a variety of purposes, including security software, content filtering, and optimization of network traffic.
    Following the instructions should resolve the issue for you.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

    Hello i'm facing  problem  i downloaded itunes version 11 32bit for windows 7 and after i installing the set up when i opened the iTunes a massages  occur saying i tunes could not connect to iTunes store an unknown error occurred (-3212) even  though my internet is on

    Try this...
    Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
    Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
    You should get something similar to this:
    Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
    If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

  • Itunes could not connect to itunes store - an Unknown Error Occured (502 )

    PLEASE HELP !!!!!
    For the last 3 days I have been trying to login to the itunes store, but have recieved the message "Itunes could not connect to itunes store - an unknown error occured (502)" each and every time. Can someone please tell me why this is happening and what I can do to fix the problem. I would really like to download some games onto my Ipod, but am having no luck.
    Thanks

      Windows XP

    I have been getting the "cannot access" result for several days, even trying again repeatedly throughout the day and night. It may have started after the last Windows security update. I have not changed anything else on my system prior to this happening, nor have either of the ISP's I use. I agree "something" must have changed, but there seem to be a lot of other people experiencing this same problem. If you are one of them, did it start after applying the Windows update?

  • Authorization-Could not complete Music Store Request. Unknown error -208

    My daughter, has an IPod and uses Itunes ver 6.
    She only uses her ipod and itunes from a single computer.
    Recently, I upgraded her Hard drive - Everything was copied over at the partician level to the new drive using Maxblast 4.
    ITunes now comes up ok but She cannot play any of her purchased songs or videos. It even has removed the purchased items from her Ipod.
    When I try to play a purchased song or video from Itunes. it prompts me to authorize the computer.
    When I do that and enter the user name, pw info, etc it returns a screen that says Machine Authorization was Successful. You Have authorized a total of 1 machines out of your available 5. but when I click OK it then gives me another screen saying We could not complete your Music Store Request. An Unknown error has occurred (-280 ) There was an error in the Music store. Please try again later. I have tried multiple times over the past 2 days and get the same response. How do I fix it?
    HP   Windows XP

    Interestingly enough - I can access iTunes by using the search feature. For example if I want U2 I can search on U2 and get into the store. But under no circumstances can I get to the iTunes Home page.
    It’s not a firewall - at least no on the network. I have 5 Mac’s on the network - all but one have no problem with iTunes - even when I log in under the problematic account. It seems to be something on the one MacBook that is blocking iTunes.
    Hope somebody can help.

  • We could not complete your iTunes request. An unknown error occurred (-50).

    Anyone know what the above message means? I've not been able to access the iTunes store since upgrading to the new version so have uninstalled and reinstalled the old version but now getting this error.
    My internet connection is working fine and I have done a diagnostics test which says I can connect to the store ok. Also Genius is working fine.

  • An unknown error occurred (-4). We could not complete your iTunes Request.

    It seems that from 10PM EST to about 5:20AM EST the US itunes store is down.
    If you're signed in, you wont be able to buy or rent,
    if you're due a download you won't get it.
    If you want to play a rental it wont authorize it.
    If you want to report a problem it won't let you view your purchase history.
    So send problem reports here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/

    German Store is down, too (05:30 UTC).
    It's a combines Stupid Bug in iTunes[tm] and broken proxy-pac handling.
    What happens?
    iTunes reads the proxy-pac (automatic proxy config) and tries to figure out
    how to connect to phobos.apple.com. In order to do so (most proxy.pac files
    cause the browser (itunes in this case) to resolve the DNS hostname to an IP
    address). This however is broken:
    iTunes wants to know the IP Address of "phobos.apple.com" (the store server)
    and in IPv6 environments asks simultaneously (using two different queries)
    phobos.apple.com A
    phobos.apple.com AAAA
    And the IPv6 able DNS server answers (in the same sequence):
    phobos.apple.com is A 17.250.236.65
    phobos.apple.com exists but has no AAAA record
    iTunes now (for some stupid reason i.e. read: A BUG in iTunes!) tries to
    talk to phobos.apple.com using IPv6 but has no IPv6 address for it, so it
    shows you the -4 error message.
    (it also traverses the proxy.pac file using an empty IP address instead of
    the valid ipv4 address it received from the DNS server.)
    It is an iTunes-only-bug since Safari has no problem using the same proxy pac
    to connect to "http://phobos.apple.com/" and "https://phobos.apple.com"
    on the same mac.
    Workarounds:
    1) disable IPv6
    2) force iTunes through a proxy regardless of anything (manual proxy config for HTTP and HTTPS, proxy.pac seems to fail!)
    3) Don't use any javascript-functions in your proxy.pac that resolves hostnames
    to IP-Addresses (hahahaha, yeah, this is a joke)...
    PS: My proxy.pac in question:
    function FindProxyForURL(url, host) {
    if ((host == "localhost") ||
    (shExpMatch(host, "localhost.*")) ||
    (host == "127.0.0.1") ||
    (host == "::1")) {
    (host == "proxy")) {
    return "DIRECT";
    dnsres = dnsResolve(host);
    if (shExpMatch(dnsres, "200?:*") ||
    shExpMatch(dnsres, "fe80::*") ||
    dnsDomainIs(host, ".local") ||
    dnsDomainIs(host, ".localnet") ) {
    return "DIRECT";
    reip = /^\d.d+.d+.d$/g;
    if (reip.test(host)) {
    if (isInNet(host, "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0") ||
    isInNet(host, "172.16.0.0", "255.224.0.0") ||
    isInNet(host, "192.168.0.0", "255.255.0.0")) {
    return "DIRECT";
    return "PROXY proxy:3128; PROXY localhost:3128; DIRECT";
