We had a power failure and after the pc rebooted Firefox would not open. Several attempts were made. So I uninstalled the program and tried a reinstall. No joy.

The registry was cleaned of every reference to Mozilla. Again the reinstall was tried with no success

There is probably a problem with the profile folder, which is where user data is stored.
Try creating a new profile folder as shown here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
If the new profile folder works, you can selectively copy data from the old profile folder such as bookmarks and passwords. For details of the files to copy see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile

  • Despite numerous reboots Firefox would not open for 3 days because apparently it was occupied, how can I see what it is occupied with and how to close it ?

I opened my online banking site but could not sign in or sign out hence I closed the website and closed Firefox. For 3 days I could not open Firefox nor Explorer. During the 3 days I rebooted several times. On the forth day when I opened Firefox a screen opened saying Firefox was embarrassed etc. etc.. and that I could restore my online banking site which I did. I was able to sign in and sign out of the account and close the website. My question is when Firefox locks up like this, how can I see if a site is open in Firefox if I can't open Firefox?
    I am using Windows 7

The 'Embarrassed' screen comes up when Firefox has not closed down correctly and is trying to restore the situation. This will not always succeed, and you may have to do a normal restart.
    * [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix]]
    * [[Restore previous session - Configure when Firefox shows your most recent tabs and windows]] (This has info on the embarrassing screen)
You should always try to close Firefox by using
    * '''Firefox Button -> Exit''' (Windows 7)
    * File -> Quit (on XP and other systems)
Where possible try to avoid closing by: killing the process, closing the window, or turning off the computer whilst Firefox is running.
If you are unable to sign in to a website sometimes it may be a Firefox problem, other times it may be an internet problem, or the site itself.

I do not know why you could not open firefox for 3 days, presumably a problem with your computer. Note even if there is no internet Firefox itself should still open when required.
If Windows Explorer is not running/working there was probably not much you could easily do with the computer. Or was your problem with Internet Explorer (The default Windows Browser) again possibly a symptom of a bigger problem.

  • I have had my ipad for 6 months. We had a power failure and ever since my ipad will not charge with the wall adapter that came with it.  It will SLOWLY charge when plugged into computer port. Can anyone help me resolve this?

I have had my iPad for 6 months.  We recently had a power outage and my iPad was plugged in with the adapter that came with it.  Since then I can not charge iPad with adapter, however I can charge it SLOWLY on my computer.  Do you think the adapter got fried?  Also do you HAVE to have iTunes with an iPad, they were charging me alot of fees for games I did not download NOR give my password to have them downloaded so I cancelled iTunes because fo too many fees. Could this have anyting to do with the battery not charging?

Since then I can not charge iPad with adapter, however I can charge it SLOWLY on my computer.
Well, something's definitely wrong if it won't charge from a wall outlet. Make an appointment at a Genius Bar or take it to an Apple certified repair provider.
As for iTunes charges, according to Apple  iTunes Store: All Sales Are Final

  • Itunes would not open "MSVCR.dll" is missing. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall itunes and got "apple mobilE devicE failed to start" message

itunes woUld not open. I got the message "MSVCR.dll is missing". I uninstalled and tried to reinstall, but got the message "apple mobile devicE failed to start". any help is appreciated.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • I had a power failure and for a number of websites why do I now get the message "This Connection is Untrusted."

After rebooting after the power failure when I go to new websites or even within some websites after clicking on a link the message box appears and I have to add a security exception to get past the message and see the link. I am using V4.0. I do not get that message on another computer using V 3.6.15.
What can I do to reset the browser?

    John,
That did it! I no longer get that message. The clock was set to the wrong day and time. So far it is keeping time correctly, but per your suggestion I will also check the battery.
Thanks for the prompt and accurate help.

  • I just upgraded to 4.0 and Firefox would not open

I then uninstalled and reinstalled--same result; now have downloaded 3.6.17 again and I'm up and running again.
Symptoms were: tried to launch program and it went into never-never land. Left for coffee and when I came back it was still not open (approx 10 min). Checked CPU usage which was pegged at 100% for Firefox.exe Nothing else was running. No window, no Firefox minimized bug on the bottom of the page, a big nada.
Too bad, Mozilla. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
I don't need an answer. Just wanted to make a note. Hopefully something will be posted when the problem is fixed; otherwise I just won't upgrade.

Ok so maybe I am a little slower than most- but the solution is actually on the page referenced in the first reply- the key is, when the customize window is open, that is when you can click and drag the home button to the left side of the screen! You can't move it without the customize window being open, nor is the home button in the customize window.

  • After an auto update firefox will not open due to an incomplete update

firefox performed an automatic update 4 days ago. It is 3.6 version. once the browser closed it refuses to reopen-message reads you must restart firefox-update was incomplete. When you restart and try to open the browser-you get the same message. If you try to uninstall-you get the same message. Nothing works

Remove the files and folders to reset the software update feature as shown here http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_Update_not_working_properly
Delete the Firefox installation directory, default location C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
Download the setup file from http://www.mozilla.com and run it to re-install. Doing this will not remove your bookmarks or other user data.

  • Firefox will not open on startup and takes over system resorces. Uninstalled. When attempting to reinstall, installer will not run from website, and can not save file to HD. No error message, it just never appears.

After a system reboot, Firefox would not open. I opened the task manager, and saw that Firefox was using alot of memory, and was using 50% of the CPU. I ended the process, and restarted. The situation just repeated several time.
I uninstalled Firefox using uninstall programs from the control panel.
I then tried to run the Firefox installer from the website, it would open the download window, then the "run the install" window. After clicking "Run", the window just closes. So I attempted to just download the install file, and clicked "Save". I tried to save the file to several different locations. A download window would open, and run, but the file would not be there.
I was running 3.6.12, the current version. And that is was I tried to install. After that failed, I also tried to install the beta 4, with the same results.
No error messages have opened, and I have run scans for malware/spyware, and didn't see anything that jumped out as a problem. I am running Win Explorer right now. And it is running fine, but I much prefer my Firefox.

  • I had to remove and reistall Firefox after it would not open. When I try to install Windows asks for a password for me to download? How do I get around this?

I downloaded Axis from Yahoo. The next day Firefox would not open at all. I removed and tried to reinstall. Now whenever I try to reinstall Firefox, windows asks me to enter a password before I can install. How do I get around this?

Yes, sometimes the problem can happen before the window is able to show up.
As for the administrator password I'll double check if that's normal or also a symptom, but helping you with the password is not our area of expertise, you'd need to get support from Microsoft. Do you know if your account is admin or limited? You can try putting your credentials in.

  • Please help - Firefox will not open. library - applications - and no firefox is listed to get to my profile manager. . What's next?

firefox has been running slower. When this happens I'll reboot my computer and this speeds up firefox. When I restarted the computer firefox would not open. Just the spinning wheel with no access to the tools.
After I force quit - it says ignore or notify/report to apple. I tried sending a report, and it ques up the box with details, system config, etc... but when I click on send - it will not let me send one - I've never been unable to send a report before.
I uninstalled, then reinstalled. Upon opening I get the spinning wheel and nothing happens - I need to force quit. I see on this mozilla help site that I need to update my profile manager. I followed these instructions - Finding your profile without opening Firefox Open Finder and go to your home folder. Note: your home folder is usually the name of your Mac user account From your home folder open /Library/, then /Application Support/, then /Firefox/, then /Profiles/. Your profile folder is within this folder. but when I got to library - application support - there is no firefox listed.

You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.
If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.
    Open a cmd.exe window:<br />
    Start &gt; Run: cmd.exe &lt;press Enter&gt;
    At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r &lt;press Enter&gt; (put a space before /f and /r)
If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Firefox will not open after computer crashed

My system crashed (I think due to recent extreme hot weather) so I turned everything off and left it overnight. On rebooting in the morning IE and email worked fine, as do all other programs, but Firefox would not open. I reinstalled it but still nothing, just a quick flash of the cursor. I tried uninstalling it and downloading the latest version but still have the same problem. What can I do?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
