We have a Exchange 2013 server and the Mailbox Database folder is filling up with .log files.

We are migrating from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.  We have installed the Exchange 2013 but it only has a couple of mailboxes on this server, all the mailboxes are still on the Exchange 2010 server.
I have run a Windows Backup of the Exchange 2013 but I am still seeing a ton a log files in the mailbox folder.
Also the database file is only about 1.1 GB but the backup is now 40 GB.
Is there something that can be done to truncate these logs and make the backup smaller?

Hi ,
1.Does the full backup completed successfully ?
2.what about the status for the below mentioned command ? Does the mailbox database headers updated with the latest time and date ?
Get-MailboxDatabase -Status | ft name,*full* -au
3.Just check the application event logs for the event id
2046  and that should state that the log truncation for the mailbox databases has been initiated or not.
4.Before initiating the backup just make the exchange writer is not on error.
vssadmin list writers
In case if it on error state ,please restart the Microsoft exchange replication service and check the exchange writers status again by using the above mentioned command.
Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

  • Exchange 2013 mailflow and the Hosts file

    Hello!
Recently I expirienced the issue with missing messages ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/20745ec5-e311-4bc0-b1bd-aff3f7c82fd1/missing-messages?forum=exchangesvradmin ) and although that thread is not answered yet I would like
    to clarify the following:
    1) Exchange Server is working properly for day1 and day2
    2) Day3: Sent messages begin to disappear
Resolution: I add my Exchange Server to the hosts file (on the Exchange Server machine), restarted the server and the mailflow was restored.
    192.168.1.2 Mail
    192.168.1.2 Mail.Test.Local
Test: Right after deleting Exchange Server records from Hosts and restarting the server the mailflow gets disrupted again.
    Q1: Is it a bug?
Q2: If it's a bug why my Exchange has been working fine for day1 and day2?
    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

    Hello all!
Here's my post that describes the issue:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/20745ec5-e311-4bc0-b1bd-aff3f7c82fd1/missing-messages?forum=exchangesvradmin
There're two servers (VMs): Domain Controller and Exchange 2013. As I have no internet connection in my test environment only internal mail go missing.
Regarding Hosts file: as those post is still not answered I just did what MS support recomended for resolving Exchange 2013 DNS issue (there're a lot of posts regarding it here on technet) and it helped...
But it's nonsense - my DNS is up and running, it was running on Day1, Day2 and  Exchange could use it successully, but starting with the Day3 Exchange Server can't use the same DNS server? Why???
    Regards,
    Michael

Are you sure that you don't see something like this: [email protected]
That is what you should see when connecting to Exchange 2013.
Outlook clients no longer connect to a server FQDN as they have done in all previous versions of Exchange. Outlook uses Autodiscover to create a new connection point comprised of
mailbox GUID, @ symbol, and the domain portion of the user’s primary SMTP address.

  • Renew SSL Certificate for for two Exchange 2010 Server and the new rules.

I find DigitCert's website always helpful with cert questions. They've got a pretty helpful page here: https://www.digicert.com/internal-names.htmIt looks like they've got a tool for Exchange, but I've not used it myself, so can't say if it works or how well: https://www.digicert.com/internal-domain-name-tool.htmI bet Microsoft have something on their website too that helps with this sort of question.I'd say you register a completely new domain and use that for public facing and internal servers. Or you could just create a sub domain of an existing one, i.e. subdomain.mydomain.com and use that, i.e. public_exchange.subdomain.mydomain.com and internal_exchange.subdomain.mydomain.com.

    Hi there ,
My exchange 2010 Server Certificate is about to expire and i am going to renew it but according to the new rules for SSL Certificate Issuing we can not include our Local Servers Names and Local FQDN such as myserver.contoso.local, my issue is that i have 2 exchange servers one is internet-facing Server (where the certificate is initiated and installed) and one is non-internet-facing Exchange server.
if i am going to renew my certificate with public only name, I have to create a split Domain that reflects my external links to the internal Users, what shall i do for the non-internet-facing server? do i need to create another record in my split DNS Server and add it to my Certificate Request ?

  • I have 45:59 mins lecture and one picture, can't export to QT with one file

I have a lecture of a duration of 45:59 mins. and one slide (picture). I have created a slide show in Keynote (v. 5) and wanted to export to QT for YouTube uploading. I end up having two files! and when I upload to YouTube, it fails for not being the right kind of file, while it (they) is .mov!!! Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    WindsorPro

    Hello Gary:
I was hoping you would answer, I wanted to reply to your earlier comment on how to create something similar to mine. You said, "Start a new presentation to remove the previous sound recording, Keynote is holding onto the other sound files. Add the graphic items to each slide and one sound file to each slide for the voice over 1 - In Inspector > Transitions;  use start transitions automatically and set each transitions delay to the duration of the individual sound file. 2 - In QT export, set Fixed Timing and delete the value in the duration box, QT will then use the custom timings for each individual slide. This procedure does work exactly as needed, Iv used this for nearly 6 years using 4 different versions of Keynote."
I tried the above and didn't work, because there are two duration boxes and Keynote won't let me delete the value!
Also, I tried your new suggestion, send to > YouTube, and still, failed. I think because Keynote is creating two files, both with .mov suffixes. But the one that has the slide on it (when it is not activated) is empty! with 00:00 duration (when I press cmd-i) and the other has a movie strip logo, and it is the audio file, however, without the slide! And YouTube rejects them as not being one of its acceptable formats! (Even though both have .mov at the end).
Finally, I bumped into a YouTube presentation, and found out how easy it was, you wouldn't believe it!!!
Just drag the sound file onto the one slide in Keynote ( I have just one picture in this project ) and then export to QuickTime! It's real-time conversion, so, it took 45:59 mins. to finish it, of course I went to bed and in the morning it was done. Once it was done, I uploaded it to YouTube by just dragging the file onto the designated area. It took another 81 mins.!

  • Getting error when I try to remove eum secondary email address from the Mailbox from Exchange 2013 server

Getting error when I try to remove eum secondary email address from the Mailbox from Exchange 2013 server. The command works if you issue directly from the server exchange shell.
I open the remote power shell to the exchange server 2013.
Issue the following commands and getting the following error.
    $mailbox = Get-Mailbox -Identity testuser$mailbox.EmailAddresses -= "eum:50004;phone-context=telExt5digits.lync5.com"Then getting the following error:Method invocation failed because [System.Collections.ArrayList] doesn't contain a method named 'op_Subtraction'.
    At line:1 char:27
    + $mailbox.EmailAddresses -= <<<<  "eum:50004;phone-context=telExt5digits.lync5.com"
        + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (op_Subtraction:String) [], RuntimeException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : MethodNotFoundHelp!

Now for an answer - your remote session doesn't have the same object you have on the server itself.  Notice it says this is an array list, not a ProxyAddressCollection.  If you need to work around this, you'll need to massage the addresses another
way that the system will accept.  I'd try the following:
    $NewAddresses = $mailboxEmailAddresses | ? { $_ -notlike "eum:50004;phone-context=telExt5digits.lync5.com" }
See what you get in the $NewAddresses variable when you do this.

    Hi,
you will need to config IM in OWA for Exchange 2013 server. As i can remember voice and everything else should be fine.
Here is a guide for enabling IM in OWA:
    http://www.expta.com/2010/09/how-to-integrate-lync-server-2010-with.html
Just remember to point DNS to the New Exchange 2013 server and it should be fine.

  • Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 gives error "Failed to communicate with the mailbox database'

I have been trying to migrate several databases from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. The migration started successfully, and many of the mailboxes moved successfully (about 70). The remaining mailboxes, failed. Looking deeper, we found a few issues; The

All of the issues listed above have been corrected, and all of the databases are mounted. Users are able to send and receive mail, but I can not migrate mail using the Migration Batch utility.
The destination server is a Hyper-V Guest running Server 2012, SP1, and Exchange 2013
The Source Server is Running Exchange 2007.
I have tried doing a test move to another destination server that is also Server 2012, and Exchange 2013, and the migration also failed.
I would appreciate any help you can give me!
    Thanks,

  • External Mail Flow not coming into Exchange 2013 Server

We just finished migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and when I disable a certain receive connector on Exchange 2007 we stop receiving external emails. I have reviewed all of the Exchange 2013 Receive Connectors and everything looks to be fine
but the server does not get mail flow. If anyone could assist with this issue that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi,
According to your description, all your inbound mails cannot be received in your Exchange 2013 server after you disable a receive connector in your Exchange 2007 server. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, since your MX record has been configured properly for your Exchange 2013 server, we can begin with checking the A record for the Exchange 2013 server and confirm if all external mails cannot come in your organization. And we can depend on the following
troubleshooting to narrow down the mail flow issue:
    1. Check the NDR information if there is NDR.
    2. Check Telnet to test the mail flow:

  • First Exchange 2013 server in 2010 Deployment - 2010 edge is routing SOME inbound mail to new server where it fails.

I have a Barracuda filter receiving all inbound internet mail which delivers to the edge server (both in DMZ).  I have one 2010 edge server and one 2010 ht,cas, mailbox server.   I have added a 2013 server and started working
on configuring virtual directories.  This is a far as I have gotten. Goal is once new box is working to move all mailboxes to 2013 server and remove 2010 mail box server and keep Barracuda and 2010 edge server to pass mail to the 2013 box.
My issue is the edge server is already passing inbound internet mail to the new 2013 server.  I see the mail being accepted by the Barracuda and message tracking on the edge shows it as delivered to the new 2013 server, but mailbox
    users never receive.
Is my solution to simply create a new send connector from the 2013 server to the 2010 box or could this be something else?
And why is it delivering to a server with now mailboxes on it yet?
    Thank you for any help
    dean

    Hello Dean,
I understand that the message tracking log indicates the email delivered to Exchange 2013 server. Please check the message tracking log on both Exchange 2013 server and Exchange 2010 server.
How about the result? Have you created new 2013 mailbox and tested if it works?
As for the send connector, actually an intra-org send connector will be involved for internal mail flow within an organization. So there is no need to create another send connector.

    Hello,
We have a Exchange 2013 server that is hosted outside the company and would like to move the server in house.
To do this we plan on standing up our own Exchange 2013 server and move the mailboxes and such over to the new server. My question is there any kind of documentation with steps to take to make sure nothing is left behind\missed?
    THank you.
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
Its two different organization and you need to follow cross forest migration to migrate mailbox from one organization to another. Below links has the details steps to perform cross forest migration for exchange 2010 and you could follow the same step for
    Exchange 2013 as well.

Alternatively, you could also use some third party tool like  Exchange Server Manager to perform this task much easier

  • Certificate choices for Exchange 2013, ADFS and WAP

This question has now been 'moved' to Windows Security.
Can you please help me with certificate choices?
We currently have an Exchange 2013 server publishing OWA, EAS, etc. externally with ISA server and a DigiCert certificate on both servers. The certificate has multiple SANs. Everything is good.
We now want to ditch ISA server and use Microsoft’s Web Application Proxy with ADFS services and I’m looking to simplify the certificate requirements.
I read in the ADFS/WAP certificate requirements that the Subject name (CN) and the SAN entry need to be the same. If I changed the current certificate, I'm not sure whether it would break the Exchange certificate requirements.
So, can you tell me if I can switch to a single wildcard certificate and use it for all these services, i.e. Exchange, WAP and ADFS servers?
    Thank you in anticipation,
    Andy.

  • First exchange 2013 server install in coexistence: Recreating arbitration mailboxes first

    Hi
We have exchange 2010 servers and I want to introduce the first exchange 2013 server.
Some of our arbitration mailboxes currently in 2010 have become corrupt and my initial exchange 2013 installation failed.
Question: Can I remove existing exchange 2010 arbitration mailboxes and recreate them using EXCHANGE 2013 "SETUP /PrepareAD"????????  Afterall there are no 2013 servers in the environment yet
I wonder if it will fail due to version incompatibilities
    Thanks

    Hi,
Agree with DJ Grijalva. Exchange 2013 /prepareAD will create the arbitration mailboxes for Exchange 2013. And the arbitration mailboxes between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 are different. So I recommend you use the 2010 /prepareAD to recreate the arbitration
    mailboxes for 2010.
Hope my clarification is helpful to you.

  • Built-in domain Administrator account not given full access to new Exchange 2013 server

I migrated from Exchange 2010 to 2013 over the weekend.  I cannot log into the EAC with my domain administrator account I use to log into all my other servers.  I also cannot run the clean-mailboxdatabase cmdlet logged in as this user.  I
had no trouble moving mailboxes from the old server to the new server with this account though.
This account is a member of: Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, Exchange Full Admin, Exchange Organization Admin, Organization Management, Schema Admins, Server Management.
I can log into the EAC with another admin account that has the same memberships as the Administrator account.
I tried giving the account the role of "Databases" as suggested by others to fix the clean-mailboxdatabase issue but that did not work for me either.
The Administrator mailbox has been moved to the new database on the Exchange 2013 server.  The Exchange 2010 has been decommissioned and is turned off.

    Hi,
Based on my research, to retrieves the mailbox statistics for the disconnected mailboxes for all mailbox databases in the organization, we can try the following command:
    Get-MailboxDatabase | Get-MailboxStatistics -Filter 'DisconnectDate -ne $null'
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124612(v=exchg.150).aspx
Additionally, The Identity parameter specifies the disconnected mailbox in the Exchange database and it can be display name instead of mailbox GUID.

    Hope it can help you.

  • Creation of a second Exchange 2013 server on a different site (with the roles of MBX and CAS) fails on prepare active directory and prepare schema.

    Hello everyone
I have a network infrastructure  consisting of 3 sites, site A, site B, and site C. i have 2 domain controllers on every site, and the AD roles are on the primary domain controller on site A. On site A I have an Exchange 2013sp1 CU6.
I want to create a second Exchange on Site B, with the roles of mailbox (the exchange on Site A will be first DAG member and the Exchange on Site B will be the second member of the DAG) and CAS.
First question: Is my  thought correct about installaing on the same server mailbox and CAS server?
Second question: how many DAG witnesses I need for the DAG? One per site, or one in general (for example located on site A)
Third question: When I am trying to perform “Setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms”  I receive the error
“ Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory:

I tried  to run the PrepareSchema from  the ISO of Exchange 2013 SP1 and form the extracted content of Exchange 2013SP1 CU6 archive, but still receive the same error. Any ideas?
