We have an email problem which is quite puzzling - cannot describe in one sentence

Here is the situation. This occurred during an active email session last Saturday, which started fine but finished with this difficulty.
Using Firefox, my wife accesses Earthlink for her email, which is at a Mindspring address. She goes to Earthlink.net and selects webmail, enters her address and password and proceeds to work in her mailbox.
She is not able to forward mail at all; the screen simply refuses (ignores) the command. She cannot reply as the screen is painted, but by changing “Rich Text” to “Plain Text, it will then let her reply. This is interesting because in her preferences in Earthlink, she has “Plain Text” selected as default; BUT, when accessed via Firefox this is changed to Rich Text without any action on her part and MUST be manually changed back EACH time and for EACH email she wishes to reply to.
We have found no solution to the forwarding problem – it just refuses to forward anything.
On the same computer, if she accesses Earthlink from IE the problem does not exist. I access it from my computer using Firefox and the problem does not exist.
We removed and re-installed Firefox on her computer; the problem remains. She is running Windows XP Pro and no changes have been made to it. We ran virus and malware checks.
Very mysterious – any ideas?

The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

    The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:

    If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
    First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
    The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.

    Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
    First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
    After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
    Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
    Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
    Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
    Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

    Check to make sure cellular data is not disabled in settings. If it's on, try re-setting the phone. If that doesn't fix it, call AT&T.

    Each email account can have its own alert or notification settings.
    Settings > Notifications > Mail > tap on each account and set the alerts you want.

    Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
    If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.

    Sounds like you have selected them to use a different Inbox or maybe a Global Account (Local Folders.)
    check this:
    Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
    or
    3bar menu icon > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings
    click on 'Advanced' button
    Select: 'Inbox for this servers account'
    click on OK
    You would need to do this for each mail account.

    Congratuations on your new iPad!
    Since your device is so new, I can state categorically that this an issue with configuration. Delete the account that doesn't work, and enter the information anew.
    If you're still having problems, check that your email address and password are correct, and if possible, verify it by checking your ISP's settings.

    Yes the smart mailbox you set up was a very basic one. I tells Mail to display anything that is assigned to that account. So if you move an email from say the inbox of that account, to another folder of the same account, then the smart mailbox will not look any different as it is looking at the whole account.
    In reality, you never need to use or look at this smart mailbox and you can continue to keep looking at the normal inboxes as you always have, but the Dock icon will only update according to unread emails anywhere in that account.
    If you would like to refine what the smart mailbox looks at, say the inbox only of that account, then you add another rule to the smart mailbox.
    Edit the smart mailbox
    hit '+' next to the first rule
    Add the new rule
    Now the smart mailbox will only display what is in the inbox of that account

    You will need to erase the HDD and start over by reinstalling the OS and setting the Mac up as a new one with your own Apple ID.

  • I am trying to find an app that will interface with Windows XP home that will alllow me to download Excel 2003 files and run/change on an original Ipod. I have found Quick Office which is useless as cannot reduce font sizes to view a sensible area.

    Is there an app that will allow me to move and edit Excel 2003 spreadsheets to and from Windows XP home that is better than QuickOffice. QuickOffice does, but will allow the usual Apple zooming facility on my Ipod Touch ?

    Have you asked iTunes Support why you keep getting the message and if there is anything that you or they can do to stop it happening ? We are fellow users here on these forums, we won't know why the message is appearing.

    Your email provider has blocked the standard mail port 25 for sending emails and is requiring a different port. This is to avoid mail relays that use mail clients to send spam. You need to find the port that is used by your provider for sending outgoing mail. Then change the settings in your email account on your phone to match the port. You will also have to provide some security credentials for the account.
    You can also try deleting the email account from your iphone, and the adding the email account back as this will many times set the correct port for sending emails.
    You could also do a Google search on the the settings for your device with your email provider. That will provide you with the proper settings.
