We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 if we upgrade to the new safari will it be compatible, and will it work with our bank?
We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 we have been getting messages that some site no longer support 5.1.10. I am concerned about upgrading, as we had trouble with a previous update with our bank. I checked with the bank and they are suggesting waiting, but other sites like youtube what the upgrade. Has anyone had problems with the new safari? Our imac is pushing 8 years old, but we are not ready to replace it.
Upgrading from 10.6.8 to a newer OS has implications for many Mac owners. Lion (10.7) ended support for software that was originally written for older Macs that used Motorola processors. Owners who kept their software current had few issues upgrading to Lion when it was released but a lot of people suddenly found they had software that wouldn’t run any longer.
Another thing to consider is the age of your computer. A 2007 or 2008 iMac can run Lion fine and even Mt Lion (10.8) but Mavericks is a reach. It was Mavericks that prompted my purchase of a new iMac in late 2012. Given that you say your iMac is pushing 8 and you don’t want to replace it yet, don’t consider upgrading beyond Mt Lion. You won’t find Lion or Mt Lion for sale at the App store but I believe that you can still purchase them by contacting Apple directly.

Hi
I have just upgraded to the new version of itunes on windows 7. I have just added 8 albums (Mp3 format) to my itunes library, synced with my Ipod classic and my wifes ipod nano, the albums have transferred to the devices but wont play when selected. Yet they will play in itunes.
When I select the album on the ipod, it opens up as normal but when you press play nothing happens other than a wining sound from the hard drive of the ipod.
My itunes library is a mix of itune purchases and mp3 purchases and this is the first time I have experienced this issue
Hopefully there is a simple explanation to thisIt is working now. I no longer get the message about the item not being available in the US and I can access the store.

Hi there.
I have just upgraded from CS3 to CS4, and I see that the Encoder looks totally different, so Im getting lost in here.
I have just created a project that is recorded with a Sony HDV HVR-Z7U, an amazing camera btw. The project is about 9 minutes long.
The settings I have are HD 1080p30, 1440x1080, (1.3333) and 29.97 fps
So I have this question:
- what settings in the new CS4 encoder must I have to obtain the best quality of my video? I just get lost in them right now..
- what settings in the new CS4 encoder must I have to encode for a use for a website, but still mainain the best quality? I guess it doesnt have to be as big as the source file?
I would really apriciate a quick answer.Okey. So this is how I did it:
My recorded footage is:
29.97fps
1440x1080 (1.3333)
Audio 48000 Hz - Compressed stereo
I encoded with:
Format: Windows Media
Preset: Custom (started with NTSC Source to High Quality Download)
Filters: None
Audiences: Compressed
Video:
Codec - Windows Media Video 9 Advanced
Encoding passes - Two
Bitrate mode - Variable unconstrained
Frame width - 720
Frame height - 480
Frame rate - 29.97
Pixel aspect ratio - HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.3333)
Keyframe interval - 5
Average video bitrate - 5300 kbps
Audio:
Encoding passes - Two
Bitrate mode - Variable unconstrained
Codec - Windows media audio 9.2
Audio format - 128 kbps, 48 kHz, stereo VBR
File size: 342 MB (video is 8.40 min long)
The result is great, but when some scenes where camera moves fast, here is the result:
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/23/vid.jpg
So, how can I get rid of those stripes? What have I done wrong with my encoding settings?
PLEASE HELP -
I upgraded to Firefox 4 and every time I try to open the home page with the Google search bar teh connection times out and its unable to connect. If I type any other address in the address bar it will open up the site, it's only Google it won't open. I've worked through every step on the Firefox support page and checked all my settings, run scans for malware, checked the firewall settings etc and even with my firewall, antivirus & spam filters all turned off I still can't open Google. I even uninstalled Firefox 4 and went back to version 3.6.16 but still have the same problem. Will I ever be able to Google again? Is there anything else I can try? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I started a thread in safari maverics, I ment to put it in iOS Safari. New Thread lists all the steps I've taken. No I haven't tried another browser. I've only ever used Safari on my iDevices. -
Ok, so I have an iPod 4gen that has a malfunctioning power and home button. This is covered under the waranty and i am able to trade it for a new one. Am i able to get the iPod 5gen instead of another iPod 4gen? I'm just curious. If I can't, that is ok.
Thanks!!!A warranty replacement will be the same model, same colour and same capacity.

Gomtomsyetm preferencs and make sure that you HDD is selected as the start up disk. Then start up using your install disc and run disk utility and repair the drive just in case something has gotten corrupt.

I just upgraded to the new mobile me calendar and now all my calendar entries on iCal have been erased. As I type this the calendar entries are still on the mobile me and iphone calendars. How do I restore the calendar entries to iCal?
Please always post your System details when you have a query. The upgrade to the new MobileMe calendar produces different results, and different problems, with different versions of OSX.
Snow Leopard: during the upgrade process your iCal calendars should be moved to MobileMe (this can take some time and you have to wait for it to happen). Once done, your iCal reads the calendars from MobileMe so any changes made in either place will be visible immediately. If this has not happened then this Apple Tech Note provides instructions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3397
Leopard: when the upgrade is completed iCal on Leopard will not be able to see the MobileMe calendars until an additional process is carried out, detailed in this Apple Tech Note:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330
Tiger: iCal on Tiger cannot read the MobileMe calendars, period. The only workaround is to upgrade to Leopard, or Snow Leopard if possible (Intel Mac required). -
What's up with the new Safari? I've done all the "tips". Still slow!
I've tried all these prophylactic measures and read an hour's worth of articles about the new Safari (Version 5.0, 5533.16 apparently). But it gets stuck on even the most basic of Internet pages.
Safari used to load eBay, Associated Content, TED, YouTube, Craigslist, StumbleUpon, etc. in mere SECONDS. Now all I see is a loading bar that gets stuck about 1/16 (just past the www....) in the loading process.
Yeah, I've cleared the cookies and cache and all the whatnots. I'm not a computer genius but I can tell something is going on. Is Apple keeping a secret record of everything I do or what? Seriously, this is frustrating!
To summarize:
I used to pop open Safari and get my homepage, www.google.com, in less than one second. Now I get a blank page that gets stuck, takes about thirty seconds, and then finally finds its way.
What can I REALLY do to make my new Safari work like it used to?
Or, how can I get the old version of Safari back?
And I've tried Firefox and other browsers, but they're messy and not as clean as my ol' Safari used to be. What's happening here?
I'm not impatient, I just can tell that something wrong is going on. And I'd like to fix it.Hi there!
Thanks for heads up. My Macbook says I'm running 10.5.8 right now.
The steps I've taken:
I deleted the weird web icons document (I think it was a .dlb or .lb or something in the Library folder for Safrari in my hardrive) which didn't seem to do much, and I've went to my Safari preferences and deleted all ma' cookies, changes my cookie preferences to "only accept from sites I visit" and I've done the "delete cache" option from the Safari menu as well as the "reset Safari" option (which I regularly do anyway 'cause it seems to keep things moving quickly). I've also restarted my computer a couple of times, usually after completing one of these suggestions.
I'm using my computer from home on a wireless router thing from Netgear with super-high-speed way-too-expensive broadband Internet from our local provider, Charter. It's called a Negear Wireless Rangemax Router. I've never had a problem with it before, and 3-4 people use the Internet here at my home, often simultaneously, without difficulty.
I'm gonna' try pluggin' in the ethernet cable now. Thanks! I appreciate it!
--- I will say, after climbing up on a wobbly chair and plugging my laptop into the cable directly, that it worked a bit faster, but it still got "stuck" (which is what I'm now officially calling this phenomenon). For example, Google loaded in about five seconds instead of ten, and Safari generally responded better to random clicking around on links, but this page got "stuck" at "http://disc..." for quite a while (well, longer than your average modern day computer, I'd say; it still felt like I was on my old Powerbook) and then diddled around a while, until I refreshed the page and it loaded almost instantly.
I noticed, too, that the biggest problem it seems to have is loading new web pages that I don't visit frequently. For example, I'll search "Leo Tolstoy" on Google, click on the Wikipedia page, and it just stops! The blue loading bar gets to about "http://en.wiki..." and then it just plain stops. Just a few days ago, it would breeze along with super fast speed.
Thanks again. I appreciate your feedback!
Something fishy is going on, for sure.

After upgrading to the new os some songs in my library will not sync to my Ipod. I can see them on my computer in the Ipod library with a dashed circle next to them. How do I get them to play on my Ipod. They are songs from store bought CD's in my Itunes library that will play on my computer in Itunes. They do not appear on my Ipod. I can see them when the Ipod is connected to the computer in the Ipod library. I reset the Ipod by holding the home & power button, I went into general settings and reset the device. I synced again but still no songs.
I have the same problem even from iTunes bought music it appears with dashed grey circle beside the ones that I have recently added to my iPod by downloading them from the iPod itself. I honestly think it has to do with the 7.0.3 update that they have recently released. It may have solved other problems but it has created more problems along the way.
Hopefully there will be a solution soon, if anyone has news or solutions please post thankyou
At least now I know I'm not the only one with the same kinda problem -
I have an imac running OS10.6.8 and an Apple laserwriter 16/600PS. Is it possible to connect these directly without networking? Where can I find the printer driver?
It turned out that WD is the big bad guy in this game.
According the data rescue company where I asked for an inspection, both of the drives had their reader head loose. And in the one, which was my already-in-use disk its even damaged the platters... xxxxx
So its time to pay bunch of money to recover, and take a walk to wd service to bang on the desk.
Also note - it may be somehow related to intellispeed technology - since macs not really friendly with wd-s built-in solutions.
On the other hand, with WD GP 1Tb there is no problems at all for ages.
thanks guys, thread is closed -
I have an iMac with OS x 10.8. Every folder t hat opens has (in the gray zone on top) file icons and jpg photos listed. How do I remove them?
Control-click each and choose Remove Item, or Command-click them and drag them out.

I have an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac OSX Snow Leopard installed. Would it be ok to download the new Mountain Lion?
Your iMac needs to be a mid-2007 or newer model. See this page for specs supported, and assuming you meet them, you can upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (see step 2 on the linked page).

I have an Imac with the Intel Core Duo Processor. Will I be able to upgrade to the new OSX Lion?
You need a Core 2 Duo or later to use Lion. You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to access the Mac App Store to download Lion when it becomes available.

I just updated my RAM (replaced the two 2 gig cards with two Corsair 8 gig cards) and I keep getting a crash report. I have a 21.5 Inch mid 2010 imac. I also am experiencing slow load times with Photoshop and when I try to open Final Cut it says that quartz extreme is not compatible and that I have no VRAM even though I do.

The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

I have a IMac G5 A1058 that was running Mac OS 10.3.8 I upgraded to 10.4
I have a IMac G5 A1058 that was running Mac OS 10.3.8 I upgraded to 10.4, shortly after upgrading the system would no longer boot so I booted from the 10.4 Tiger upgrade disk from which I had upgraded and disk utility found errors on the HD file system that it said could not be repaired. I removed the HD from the system and connected it to my other IMac G5 A1312and ran disk utility and found the same errros. I re partitioned the HD put it back into the G5 and atempted to reinstall the OS. I keep getting a grey screen with a circle and a line through it.It does this with OS 10.2 and 10.3 when I tried 10.4 tiger upgrade it says it need their to be a system all ready installed. My Q's is do I need Mac OS 10.3.8 disks since that is the system that this computer was released with?
Any idea why it will not let me install 10.3 and work my way up?
Any help would be great thanksWelcome to Apple Communities
If it came with Mac OS 10.3.8, you can't install an early version. You need the discs with it
