We have just moved from a PC to iMac. We have been in the habit of switching off at the wall our PC connection, overnight. We have been told this not necessary with iMac. Is this correct?

We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account." You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

i can connect to internet and e mail via wi fi , however not out with these. I have just moved from i phone 3 to 4s is it the settings?
Let me see if I understand correctly, you can access the Internet and email when on wifi, however when not on wifi, none of this works? Is this correct? If so, do you have a data plan with your carrier? Do you have cellular data turned on in Settings? When you look at your carrier in the upper left corner, do you see a signal, carrier name, and then 3G, 4G or LTE displayed? Have you contacted your carrier about this?

We just moved from a Windows server to a Mac server with our Macs -problem!
We just moved from a Windows server to a Mac server with our Mac Network!!!
Problem:
Now, when we create files from our personal computers, no one else can write them. We can all read these files, but when we make changes we have to save a version! This wasn't happening on the Windows server, so I can only guess that it's a setting on the Mac? (G4 Laptop running 10.4.5)
Can anyone help me figure out what setting needs to be changed?

-AlexThis is normal behavior, and is a result of the POSIX umask. Newly created files have their POSIX permissions (owner, group, and everyone fields) set such that only the owner can read and write.
The best way to solve this problem is to use an ACL entry to define desired permissions for a folder, specifying inheritance (e.g., permissions apply to this folder and any newly-created files or folders inside of that).

I've just moved from PC to Mac, with my PC i and using Vmware Player I used to work on 2 Virtual M/C both on 2 external drives, one Windows Server 2000 as operating system and the sec. WindowsXP, is their a way to open these m/c on my mac

I also recommend to use Boot Camp, which allows you to install windows on a partition of your internal hard drive. This has many benefits. First, you can restart your computer and start up in windows. This makes your Mac device a complete windows machine and you gain the most from your hardware when working in Windows. Second, if a problem occures to your Mac OS X, you can restart your machine in Windows and prevent your data from getting lost. Third, you can import the Windows installed on the boot camp partition in to the Mac OS X using VMWare Fusion and work with it as a virtual machine. In this situation, VMWare enables you to work directly with your Windows in the boot camp partition. So it does not create a file package for the virtual machine in OS X.
Regarding the data safety and reliablity, I strongly recommend using Time Machine. You can also set it up to back up your virtual machines or not. This is possible to set up in the Virtual Machine Preferences Page in VMWare Fusion, or in the Time Machine preferences page in the System Preferences app of OS X.

I have just moved from one PC to another. They are windows pc's not macintosh. When i installed itunes on the new computer it stated that I already had 5 devices authrorized for this account. I did a little reading and went in and deathorized all 5 PC from the account as I am sure it was a couple pcs ago and a few iphones. When I try and go in and authorize an account I cant see anywhere where there is a prompt to authorize the new PC. I go into store and all it says is that there are no devices associated to this account. What I would like to do is associate my new PC and my iphone to this account and hopefully restore from the cloud all of my music and programs.
Any idea what I am doing wrong here or how I can resolve this. Thanks in advance.

I have just moved from using Windows all my life to buying a Mac Book Pro running on OS Lion. But my accounting softwares Tally 7.2 and Tally 9 do not run on it.
I just learnt that the software platform of Tally Accounting softwares are specific to Windows only.
I need to run the accounting software, Mail and several spread sheets and documents at the same time.
Is there some way I can do this on the Mac Lion OS?

Do you still have the iphone? I know this has been an issue with phones that were lost or stolen, but if you still have your iphone try going into settings on that iphone and turn off imessage. See if that helps,certainly cannot do any harm.

Was your phone locked to T-Mobile? If so, it needs to be unlocked before you can use it here. I believe you can use it with AT&T or T-Mobile here, but you won't get 4G/LTE speeds.

I am just moving from FCPx to Premiere Pro
I am just moving from FCPx to Premiere Pro, and one of the things I'll miss with FCPx is all the free wipe's, templates, generators that were availible throught places like FCP.co Forum, is there any kind of free stuff available like this but for Premiere?
I did like working in Premiere Pro for one of my school projects but the rendering time and exporting time for it made me stick with FCPX. It was a 45 second fictional commercial and it took over night to finish.
I'm sure I did something wrong or just not used to working in it. I did do some research about Rendering and from what I've read, people say it's unnecescary to render but could be just preference. -
I have a BT internet pop account and have been told this cannot sync across devices using icloud. Is this true and are there ways round it?
That's correct. iCloud handles only its own email, and has no relationship with other accounts. It's in the nature of a POP service that messages are downloaded from the server to the machine - it was really designed for single-computer use in the days when a second computer was an unheard-of luxury. You can usually set the email client to leave message on the server either permanently or for a specified period, so that other devices can also access the messages, but of course they won't see replies or sent messages.
IMAP (which is what iCloud uses) is the better protocol to use - the messages live on the server and the various computers and devices read them from there, like webmail - and a service which provides that will behave in exactly the same way as iCloud but independently of it. You should ask BT if they can provide an IMAP version of the account - some ISPs provide both, some don't. -
I have software that is not compatible with the latest video drivers that were installed witht 10.7.5 update. I would like to revert back to 10.7.4 OS or at least the video driver, is there a way to do this?
If you want to reformat your machine and re-install all your apps and then restore from an earlier version of Time Machine you can. However if I were you I'd update the apps.

We just moved from the United States to Costa Rica. The first two days my mac worked great. Then all of a sudden I was trying to use a game application and the screen went black and there is a white cursor which I can move around, but I can't escape it. When I restart it seems okay and I see my main screen, but only for a second and then it goes black again.

My MBP didn't recognise my password, started it in safe mode, I can see my files, but I don't know what to do next, as the image of reset password isn't selectable. I just moved from PC. Need help please...
Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
resetpassword
Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.
