Weak bass on brand new Pavilion dv7-7012nr

This new machine arrived today and I'm finding it to be exemplary is just about every way except for the sound. I realized it's a laptop and acoustic "space" is limited but I feel like I may have something set incorrectly due to the nearly complete lack of bass. Either that or perhaps there is some problem with the hardware itself. I didn't expect it to be loud but I did expect it to be balanced. I know the sound will be fine with headphones or through my high-end USB converters and studio monitors but I must say the direct sound in sorely lacking. I have hunted around for settings and adjusted the equalizers but it's still pretty wimpy. Is there something else I need to do?
BTW, I have also experiences the "volume dips" mentioned in another thread. I hope that is also something that can be cured somehow.

I did finally find the Beats Audio controls and have done some bass boosting there too. Still seems weak though.

Brand New Pavilion DV7 Shut down twice when first started, and keeps shutting down for no reason

The problem I have with my new HP Dv7 is it keeps shutting down. This can't be due to over heating as when I first switched it on and went through the setup process it restarted twice. Took me three attempts to get just past the registration section.
Reading on the forum pages it looks like quite a few people have had the same problem. Is there a software fix/update to solve this problem? or do I have a faulty laptop?

Please identify your notebook/pc with more than the series number. Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker. Post items numbered 1 and 2 on the following image.
Post the installed operating system version ( and whether it is 32 or 64-bit)

I belive that action OR f5 is for the backlit keyboard, not the touchpad. For the touchpad (my machine is also a dv7-70xx) you need to touch the switch (rapidly twice) which is on the left corner of the touchpad. The following image shows where is the light (yellow circle) and where is the swich (red rectangular):

Replacing keyboard on Pavilion DV7-7012NR--Backlit or not?

I spilled water on my HP laptop and now the keyboard doesn't work. Everything else seems fine, and it works fine when a USB keyboard is connected.
So, I'm looking to replace the keyboard. I've had a hard time finding a good match, but...HP Part Surfer says my laptop has part #681981-001 or 698782-001, "Island style Keyboard Paint black backlit." I've found that item on ebay and elsewhere.
BUT, my original keyboard was not backlit. However, I'm pretty sure there is a connecter for the backlit ribbon. See photo (finger pointing to it).
Any feedback?

Here are the original factory specs for your HP Pavilion dv7-7012nr Entertainment Notebook Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped from the factory with a "Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with numeric keypad" installed.
From the HP Partsurfer;
681981-001 Keyboard ISK PT BL BLK US (ISK = island style keyboard, PT = paint, BL = backlit, BLK = black)
698782-001 Island style Keyboard Paint black backlit Win8 - US
From the MSG for this model;
681981-001 Keyboard ISK PT BL BLK US (ISK = island style keyboard, PT = paint, BL = backlit, BLK = black)
Part # 681981-001 is the correct keyboard and this should match with the part number on the existing keyboard. This was the original keyboard shipped with Windows 7. The 698782-001 keyboard isn't listed in the MSG and most likely was shipped later, when Windows 8 was introduced.

Did you try '''Ctrl'''+'''0''' (zero) to reset the zoom.
You did that with by holding the control key and scrolling on the right edit of the pad, which is equivalent to Ctrl+scrollwheel on the mouse.
Ctrl+0 to restore zoom to normal (Ctrl+- zooms out, Ctrl++ zooms in )
The problem with the Zoom toolbar buttons (+ and -) builtin to Firefox 4 is that there is no way to zoom directly to normal (100%) nor even tell what zoom level you are at.

Also I tried using the chat but my computer was not mentioned when I typed its code which is why I tried this.
Horrible horrible service. Imagine buying a brand new computer that refuses to start up and several days later after asking for help and instuctions on what to do next...you receive guidelines on how to ask questions.

Brand new pavilion 15 but little annoying sound comes

I purchased hp pavilion 15-n013 Tx 2 days ago and now i can hear a little amount of sound comes from the right part of my notebook (where dvd drive is placed) i wonder whether it is normal??and whether it comes from HDD as far as i know about SATA drives they don't make sound until heavy overload usage. pleaese help.

I saw your post regarding the noise in the notebook. I pulled up the manual and the only thing that could be making that noise is your HDD. As it is not a solid state drive you may hear some noise as the disks inside rotate. However, if it gets worse then you may have a cause for concern.

Overheating in brand new Pavilion P045TX

It has been just two weeks since I brought this laptop. It has a good configuration (8GB, i7, 2GB graph) and I trust it to run better than my previous i5 4 Gig. However I noticed it starts getting hot after 2-3 hours of continous use. The fan starts whirring. I still thought it would be ok.
Soon I installed Civilization 5 (recommended config is core 2 with 256 mb graphics - and mine is far far better). Just after one hour of gameplay, the fan ran off like a jet engine and laptop started becoming 'too hot'. Soon there was lag in the game and all the smoothness I expected from this laptop vanished.
What might be the issue? And what's the solution.
p.s. I'm gonna kill you if you suggest me buy a cooling pad. Dude, the laptop is just two weeks old...

Karthik this is the point - this is a totally new laptop, high config. And it heats up faster than my old laptop. The link you suggested talks about:-
Dust inside the computer.
A new component, such as a hard drive, is added. The extra component causes the power supply to work harder and generate more heat. Extra heat also radiates off the new component and adds to the temperature inside the case.
Over time, some cooling fans might slow down and wear out, depending on the usage of the computer.
High ambient room temperature.
None of these is applicable. Background apps? Nothing more than pre-installed HP utilities and an antivirus.
My worry is, it seems by old laptop was better... if I look at gaming smoothness and heating issues.

Low sound. Brand new Pavilion Elite HPE-410f Tower and HP 2310m Monitor

Monitor does have the speakers and they are working, but the volume is so low as too be useless. What can I do to boost the sound. Was paying the extra money for internal speakers on a HP monitor a stupid thing to do? Can I even plug extra speakers in without disabling the monitor speakers?

My brand new hp pavilion dv7 has no sound-seemed as if it did first day

new pavilion dv7-6c20us had a normal windows default beep 1st day-never tried anything with sound til last nite-tried to watch video for 1st time and no sound-did system restore still no sound. IT person at my job looked it over too and is lost as well. Windows 7 . I haven't used laptop at all except for dragging pictures from external hard drive onto it. I can play a movie with sound on tv with HDMI cable, and in sounds looks like its working but isn't audible. I can hear a click when I hit mute with headphones on.

If speakers are set as default and still no sound go to Device Manager and uninstall the IDT Audio device,choosing to also delete the driver. Retart the laptop and install the latest IDT driver from your models driver page. You may want to download and save it first in your Download folder.

Pavilion dv7-4060us Color Printing Problems...

I just bought a new Pavilion dv7-4060us Notebook and am having problems printing in color. I have a Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS Printer that I'm trying to connect to through a wireless network connection. I can find the printer on the network and install the "Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS" driver online just fine. But, after all that, when I try to print, it will only print in Black and White. For some reason it just will not print in color. I've looked through all my "printer properties" and it doesn't even show color options! It's like my computer just doesn't even recognize that the printer can print colors. Like maybe that printer's driver is for some reason not recognizing it as that actual printer?!
I tried deleting the printer and the driver off my computer and installing it using the printer's original CD, but it says it's not compatible with Windows 7 OS. But installing the driver via online and using the CD should basically be the same thing shouldn't it? So that can't be the problem. The "HP printer help website" doesn't really help at all because it's a Xerox printer and not an HP. After reading through some forum posts I figured maybe it was a firewall problem, but wouldn't the firewall stop me from printing all together...not just prevent me from printing color?
Has anyone seen this happen before or heard of anything like this happening? Right when I got the computer I kind of went through and deleted a few things I thought were Crapware, so the only thing I can think of right now is that maybe I accidentally deleted some kind of software program that lets me print color?! Which doesn't really make any sense, so I don't think that's it.
Also, I know it's not a Windows 7 OS problem or my wireless connection because my brother's computer uses Windows 7 and connects through wireless as well, but his can print color just fine. He set his computer up like a year ago so he can't remember how he set it all up or what he did, so he's kind of useless.
As of right now the only thing I can think of to do is try posting on this HP help forum and post on the Xerox Printer help forum and see if anyone has any advice for me. If you have any ideas I'm up for trying anything because I pretty much NEED to be able to print from this computer!! Any information can help out a lot so just let me know. Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with my dv7-4171us, my husband has the same printer and it print fine on my Xerox but mine only prints in black and white, its very frustrating. I called HP and after 2 hours on the phone they couldnt fix it either.
I'm thinking of doing a full "f11" factory restore. If anyone knows how to fix the color printing problem please let me know.

New Envy dv7 with Windows 8 is unable to open DVDs

I have a brand new Envy dv7 with Windows 8. Put my printer DVD in the drive to install the software. While a drive is shown in Explorer, the title is not displayed and trying to open the DVD results in an error message saying the disc might be corrupt. I torks just fine in my Compaq Windows 7 machine. The "eject" menu function does not eject the CD, but does cause my external hard drive's activity light to go on. Interestingly, when I use the taskbar hardware eject, it shows both the DVD and the external hard drive on the same device.

Tried a solution mentioned for Windows 7 but using the Win 8 version (CDDVDWinDiag), which found the drive, fixed some class problems, and then said it could not read the media. Nevertheless, I was able to read the media fine after that. However, after using right click eject, the drive again disappeared from the system. Running the utility again, re-found the drive, but as soon as one ejects the DVD, the drive disappears again.
