Weak BT on Pro

I recently reorganized my office and, for the first time, I am experiencing BT range issues. My MM and keyboard are about 4-5 feet from the tower.
This issue was addressed in the discussions a year or so ago. Switching antenna wires was the recommendation. There was speculation, though, that this 'fix' was simply misconnecting the wireless network antenna to the BT antenna and vice-versa.
Is this switch still the recommended solution?
Thanks,
tom

Hi - The problem needs some careful logic applying to it.
A. You say there are no problems with the other phones in the house - does this mean that you can make and receive calls okay on those phones with this phone connected to the system?
If so then at least we know the problem is with the phone
if not then unplug this new phone and confirm that your system works without the new phone - if the system doesnt work with out the new phone then the fault is with the incoming phone line and you need an engineer
B. Assuming that the house system is okay without this phone and the new phone is at fault next we need to find out if it is the handset, base or transmission system between the base.
With the phone actually on the base press the green button and put your ear to the earpiece - Can you hear a dial tone? If yes then it is the transmission system between base and handset - If no then the problem is with the base station
In either case next unplug the base station power and leave unplugged for 30 seconds, plug the power back in
Now take the handset and press and hold down the red button until the handset turns off, wait 30 seconds and press and hold the green button until the handset turns on - now press the green button again and see if there is a dial tone? If no or it is still saying busy then
can you access another BT On-air 1100 handset? if so charge up this one and see if the problem persists - if no then it is the handset and if yes then it is the base station and if you have a warranty then return the whole unit and ask for a replacement.
It is very difficult to fault find at a distance, I hope you can solve this conundrum with or with out this post - good luck.

  • Airport gets weak on macbook pro

All over the sudden my airport gets weak on macbook pro. Now I have to be very close to router to get steady connection. How to check if my AirPort is still ok and if is not, what should I do to make it better?

I gave up the airport. I have EnGenius installed. Everything works perfect. Internet is faster than ever (with the same router). I am getting more and more disappointed about Mac in general. During the past 4 years I changed battery twice, the power cable once and I cannot use my DVD drive at all for a year already. Now Airport. It never worked well anyway.
External things never get bad, it is always my MacBook Pro I have problems with.
Should I assume that if I had PC I would have more problems to deal with?
Now, I said that. I feel much better. Thanks for listening.

  • Laptop upgrade - low budget disk setup

    Hi,
I have read many great posts in this forum about this topic (especially about disk setup byHarm Millaard ). However, I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the data. My laptop is quite old and weak (maybe too weak) for Premiere Pro/After Effects in terms of usability. Before I start investing in new PC, I would like to give my current one a try. I am wondering if proper disk setup (scratch disk) would make a difference.
My budget would allow me to choose one of the below options:
a)one external ~128 GB SSD drive (USB 3 or eSATA),
b)one 7200 rpm external HDD (USB 3 or eSATA), eventually TWO
c)other disk setup suggestions within such budget?
    d)other non-disk setup suggestions?
I produce 1080p videos, up to ~5 minutes duration.
    My current laptop specs:
    Dell Studio 1555
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2,4 GHz
    RAM: 4GB
1 HDD: 500 GB 7200 rpm 16 mb cache sata
1 external 1TB 5200 rpm HDD USB 3 (I use it for backup at the moment)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512 MB
    eSATA
USB 3 (will use a epxress card with USB 3)
    Thanks in advance,
    Kamil

....when I first started...trying to edit HD content with PPro CS4, I had a laptop like yours. At the time, I didnt know ANYTHING and foolishly BELIEVED the "minimum requirements" listed by Adobe to use PPro. I wound up pulling my hair out as NOTHING would work...EVERYTHING froze up. Then, I started reading HERE on this forum posts by Harm Millard, Bill Gherke, and others about what REALLY was needed to run this professional level software.Temporarily, I discovered I could " transcode" the highly compressed ORIGINAL clips into another codec that the laptop could edit. This is something you can try with the free Cineform codec, available at GoPro website.
However, your machine is TERMINAL....a remnant of the past...you need to take it to a FIRING RANGE and yell PULL as you throw it into the air and witness its destruction via a loud shotgun blast !!! What you want is to edit NATIVELY the original footage in an easy manner. PPro has since improved GREATLY...now, its entirely 64 bit and has MANY improvements that have improved performance SIGNIFICANTLY.
You are going to need an i7 machine that is hyperthreaded, that runs over 3 Ghz, that has 32 GB system memory, that has a good NVidia graphics card,7xx series,or, better. Then, fast storage is a great help with performance. Using ONE quality SSD for OS, programs and pagefile is a MUST. Windows 8.1 is BEST because it does NOT have the memory limit of Windows 7 Home premium of 16GB, and HAS better support for USB 3 devices. Just get a new machine ...you can do FINE with a Haswell laptop with memory maxxed out and Crucial M550 SSDs in it,( 2 drive bays)...AND the 7xx series, ( or better), mobile NVidia GPU.
Or, build a new Haswell E based desktop machine....the mid- level CPU is affordable with great 6 core performance.

  • Randomly weak/barely functional wifi on Early 2011 Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.2, out of ideas. Help?

    Hey there, boys and girls!
As of August 2011, I am the proud owner of a brand new 13 inch Macbook Pro! Being a tech geek, I have always wanted the opportunity to play with OS X, and I was pretty thrilled by my purchase.  However, mere weeks after getting my shiny new computer, the wifi issues started. For no reason at all, it would seem as if my connection was dropped entirely, but checking activity monitor showed that the signal had simply capped off at about 6 kb/s. This issue has continued to randomly strike when I am trying to do something online, and almost always when it is something important. These issues have continued throughout the Fall of this year, and school has kept me too busy to actually get hardcore on this problem. The time has come.
I have read **** near every stinking article on the internet about this problem, and tried every solution that I have seen.
Here is the info I have:
*When the problem occurs, opening activity monitor and choosing "Network" shows a graph that maxes out at 6kb/s, sometimes less. There are characteristic spikes of activity, which are usually between 0 and 2 kb/s. It happens COMPLETELY at random, and for utterly variant spans of time. Sometimes it happens 8 times a day, for hours each time; other times, I get it once a day for about 15 minutes. There is no rhyme or reason to it.
*It happens most frequently on my home network. I am using a Netgear Wireless N router (a new one, at that) which I have configured to serve as wireless router and DHCP server for my Verizon router (on which I have disabled wireless and left essentially as a modem). However, the problem has also occurred outside of my home network.
*It's just my Mac. Every other device connected to the network continues to function normally when the cap occurs.
*Whatever data IS moving when the cap occurs is not user data; in other words, I cannot discern the source of the weak trickle of data that continues when the problem happens. During the problem, I cannot ping in terminal, or use any Internet-connected applications or browsers.
Here are some solutions I have tried which did absolutely NOTHING to resolve the problem:
*Rebooting (duh). Problem remains directly following reboot if it was happening right before reboot.
*Turning wifi off and on again (duh some more)
*Using other browsers/networked applications (also duh)
*Erasing all setting connection files so that they are forced to rebuild (4 plist files in library/preferences/systemconfiguartion)
*Erasing and re-adding networks from the remembered networks list
*Repair disk permissions and disk volume from recovery.
    *Reset PRAM
*Keep a terminal window running that just pings a remote server endlessly. This basically cuts off as well when the problem shows up.
No combination of the following worked (and I tried each separately and in tandem, when applicable):
*Change the network location to a custom one
    *Set a static IP
*Renew DHCP lease after location reset
I'm basically at my wit's end here. I am technically savvy enough to try basically any solution, but I seem to have run out of options. Does anyone have any solutions I haven't tried? The only other potentially relevant thing I can think of is that I did clone my original 320GB HDD over to a 500GB HDD near the start, but that shouldn't have anything to do with this... right?
I remember being eager to get this machine, but this network plague has me missing my broken-down heap of an old PC. For all it's various shortcomings, was at least able to connect to the **** internet consistently. I thought 10.7.2 would fix the problem... but nope. No help from Apple either. I'm pretty sick of this issue already.

  • Macbook Pro WEAK monitor hinge AFTER apple repair! PLEASE help!

Hey everyone, I am using a 2010 MBP with a 15" hi res display. I had the computer for 3 months with no problems and then the display broke (wouldnt turn on) so apple replaced it. Once they replaced it, i noticed the display was not as strong. To help you all understand this better, let me give you some background information. I am a DJ and music producer and I play at various venues quite often. The problem I am having, is when my computer is on my laptop stand, and the bass hits from the venues sound system, the monitor will wobble down when placed on my laptop stand (http://www.safecomputingtips.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/irizer-laptop-s tand.jpg). This NEVER happened before the display was replaced, nor does it happen on my 13" 2009 MBP. To get a sense of what im talking about, if you watch the end of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmN9p9z3KgA) it demonstrates how the screen will fall down with just gravity. While no one would ever use a computer like that, while it is on the laptop stand its position is very similar. When he holds the macbook body vertical, it causes the screen to fall down with gravity. Before my macbook was replaced, it NEVER did that. My 2009 MBP has had TONS of wear and tear and doesnt do that. I went into the apple store and tried it on EVERY macbook pro in the store, 13 15 and 17 inch models, NONE of them fell with  gravity. This started happening when i got the screen replaced. I have gone into the apple store and have had the display replaced for weak hinges 2 or 3 times now, and every time i get it back it is no better. My computer was out of repair yesterday, I took it into apple tonight (20 mins ago) and I was told by a manager that this is within "normal" specs for a "normal" user. Which is true, this wouldnt bother anyone who doesnt use a laptop stand and plays in clubs; but i do. He told me there is nothing he can do, and that I would just have to deal with it (of course he said it much nicer). What i dont understand is that I paid 2,800 for a computer that worked PERFECTLY until the screen died, and once it was replaced due to APPLES fault, now i must deal with a problem caused originally by apple. When I DJ with my 2009 model, no problems. My thought process is that maybe because the original screen is not on the unit, the replacement may not be as sturdy because it wasnt built with the unit itself. For example, my 09 mbp has had no replairs and its fine. The models in the store i assume have had no display repairs, and theyre all fine. The manager agreed that my hinge was weaker than the rest of the stores' models, but even though it was weaker it was within "normal specs", and he wouldnt budge. I'm sure a new unit that has been built together will fix this problem, but he would not give me a new unit. Is there ANYTHING I can do to help this? I am going to a different apple store tomorrow and hope the manager is a bit more understanding in the fact that not all apple computers are put through "normal" use and therefore should not be judged with "normal" specs. When my computer was new it NEVER ever ever did this, and I feel like I bought applecare for that exact reason, so that for at least 3 year i have the computer I bought. Any any any help would be greatly appreciated, I am 19 going and paying my way through school and if i didnt have to pay for school I would just say screw it and I would buy another unit, but i cant. Thanks for reading this, i really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, spoke way to early.  The fan issue is still a big problem.  From the second the machine is turned on, the fan cranks up.  Frankly, I think this is overheating the machine to some extent (running the fan at max speeds when it's not even warm).  Additionally, the noise caused by this has only gotten worse, and now it is even making a "whistling sound."  Looks like I'm going to be making the trek to the Genious Bar, but based on comments by others on this issue I am not optimistic about a fix.

  • Very weak WLAN signal on Satellite Pro L10

    Hi,
I have a Sat Pro L10 that came without a mini pci wireless card so I bought and installed one and fitted internal antenna behind the screen. When I am in the same room as the router I have a brilliant connection but as soon as I leave the room I lose it all together. The router is fine as other people have no problem connecting to it. The card I bought is made by Agere but came labelled as Toshiba, I have updated the driver to the newest I could find which is june 2002.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as I'm sick of dragging this wire around with me.

    Hi
I think there is no much to do. I think the environment has a strong influence on the Wlan signal receiving. Its the same issue like yours.
My brother uses the Wlan at home and the signal is strong enough if he is in the same room but in other rooms the signal is very weak. But at my home he can receives the WLan signals without any problems. The signal is strong also if he is in different rooms
I think the room walls are the reason for the weak signal.
But you could check the Wlan card properties in the device manager. There you could change some settings in the Advanced tab. For example disable the power saving, etc

  • Macbook Pro- weak wifi solutions ?

New Macbook Pro weak wifi ??
I am also experiencing weak & varied signal strength on my Macbook Pro. I recently switched from a Macbook & have noticed side by side that the macbook has better internet connectivity & signal strength. I have thought about buying the Apple Time Capsule Router ( & back-up) or Airport Extreme. I am curious if I can expect better signal strength & distance.... This is really annoying as I loved my Macbook for many reasons & have handed it off to one of my sons.. Any info about the signal strength & distance I may expect to get ??
    macbook pro 2.4 ghz Mac OS X (10.5.4) I-pod touch & nano & 80 gb I-Pod

    Hi
I've had a similar problem - see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7278377#7278377 . Things continued to get worse, so that sometimes I was losing the signal for several hours at a time: meanwhile my nearby G4 iMac continued to connect with never a hiccup.
In the end replacing the original airport card with a Sonnet Aria Extreme N Mini PCIe 802.11n card has (touching wood, crossing fingers and taking all similar necessary precautions) completely sorted it. No other changes - I'm still using the 11g base station. However, mine was a first revision MBP with an 802.11g card: I guess yours has an 11n card already.

  • HT3205 My mac book pro will not turn on. The light on the battery charger is weak, barely visible.

I recently purchased an iphone 5s. After returning home form the apple store, so very excited to sync my new device, my mac book pro won't turn on.
it was last used 3 hours prier to me returning home. It won't turn on, the charger light is weak, barely visible. When I plug the charger to another device it works fine. Before I take it to be repaired I would like to get a general idea of the problem, as well as an estimated cost.

    A. We have no idea what the problem might be.
    B. We have no ideaa what it will cost to repair it.
    C. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Macbook Pro to weak to start a drained iPod 2G

FYI for everyone out there. If you drain your iPod all the way dead it will not sync with a Macbook Pro, the firewire port is too weak. It doesn't matter if your Macbook Pro is plugged in, it will not put out enough power for the iPod to boot up.
The solution is to plug the iPod into a wall or car power adapter until the battery has enough of a charge to allow the iPod to reboot under its own power. It seems that since the 2G has to reboot the OS to go into target disk mode there is a power spike and the firewire port on a Macbook Pro just doesn't provide enough current.

    Start with this:

  • Macbook pro 13" 2010 weak wifi isssues

I just got the 2010 13" macbook pro and have really weak wifi strength.
I'll be in a computer lab or library where everyone around me on older macbook pros or macbooks is getting a signal but I'm not.
Has anyone else experienced this? does anyone have any remedies? or is mine possibly defective?

Same problem here w/ new 13" MBP. When I compare wireless performance to my 13" white plastic MacBook, the plastic MacBook beats the MBP to death. I'm convinced it is an antenna issue: there is a bar where I often use my laptop w/ a concrete counter that must have rebar in it. The MBP sees only wireless routers that are on top of the machine whereas the MacBook has no problemo. When I lift the MBP off of the counter a foot, signal reappears. This *****. So I bought one of those Hawking USB wireless dongles with the antenna sticking out and now wireless rips. So hopefully, Apple will fire the antenna "guru" because now my MBP looks like an ugly Windoze box with the USB dongle sticking out the side.

  • After installing Mavericks OS, My MacBook Pro is Slow and weak?

Recently I upgraded to Mavericks OS system from Mountain Lion. I use MacBook Pro 17" of 2011 with 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7.
Mavericks supposed to be faster and saves more battery life. But it was not in my case. I do most of my work with Ms. Office 2011.
    1) I find the Finder is extremely slow to respond. It takes more than One minute to open the folder files.
    2) I find the Ms.Office is very slow. Powerpoint slides are NOT showing the content on the column view. The system battery goes down very quickly with Powerpoint.
    3) The battery does NOT last more than 5 hours, comparatively it was usually be NINE HOURS.
I have reinstalled the Mavericks as advised by the Apple Expert from Apple Inc.
Still the Problem exist. What do I do?

    Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Macbook Pro weak wireless signal

I recently purchased a new battery for my MacBook Pro and ever since, I've had terrible wi-fi signal. I've got an iPad, MacBook and iPhone that all have no problem connecting to the network, from all over the house, but with my MacBook Pro, I've got to be within 5 feet of the router or I have no signal at all.
Any thoughts on how to increase the wireless signal so that I can get out of my house again? =)

  • New mid 09 macbook pro weak speaker problem

    I just got a mid 09 macbook pro 15''.
and notice the full volume on the speaker is just about 60-70%
of the late 08 macbook pro when turn to full 100%.
    anyone notice this?
not sure is this a defect or apple did something to the mid 09 model
maybe add an internal speaker limiter/compressor?

How would this affect the warranty? Obviously I'm not trying to insert a hardware compressor/limiter, just route the signal on the audio output bus through a plugin (or some piece of software) before it gets to the internal speakers, or any other output device for that matter. Would this really affect the warranty?

  • New macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

Just looked throught this part of the forum and found out there are a lot of people out there which seem to have the same problem as me.
I purchased a new modell 2011 MBP on the very first day from our apple store.
At home, sitting directly beside the wireless router I didn´t noticed anything wrong.
I have got beside of the Mac OS a bootcamp Prt. with Windows 7 on it and everythign works fine so far.
Five days after purchased I started traveling on business and at present we are for some weeks in Melbourne. Were having a wireless connection in our appartement and here I have got massiv problems with my connection.
We are having altogether four windows mashines with us, my IPad, my Iphone, another HTC smartphone, and my new Macbook.
All the other devices connecting to our room wireless without problems. The net strengh is not fantastic but the other devices bringing it up to four bars on the windows wireless symbol in the task bar. None of the other computers where ever loosing the connection.
Only my macbook can not make it over three bars and its going on and off. Donwloads fail freuquently because the conection is interrupted more than one times..
In my opinion this problem is even worse on the Windows OS and a bit better but far away from beeing good and acpetable on the Mac Os.
I hope its only a driver issue and there is no hardware problem with the new mashine. Other than this I love the new notebook and I am very satisfied with its performance.

    Hi,
I've noticed similar behavior - specifically with the new 2011 MacBook Pro 13 and 17" models (tested) on Cisco infrastructure - using a 1252 and 3500i/e series APs running in dual-band mode, with 5GHz preferred. I've seen the transfer rates when in close proximity to the AP move between 72mbit and 243 - occasionally 300. My 2010 system in the same position is a solid, dependable 300.
They did modify the wireless chipset in the new 2011 MacBook Pros to replace it with a true 3x3 802.11n device. Cisco have long praised the Broadcom chipsets so I will see if their wireless team can advise me on what this new gear is capable of.
I currently look after a very large deployment of wireless LAN equipment so my wireless performance is absolutely critical to my work - the 2010 system was a godsend and a testament to how wireless devices should be built. It looks to me like this could be a software issue so I only hope Apple resolves this ASAP. I'll hang on to my 2010 system for now...
