Weak support of Nokia and Suppliers for Touch-and-...

Hello friends!
After a long time of recherche, searching information, reading test reports and opinions in forums and testing lots of mobiles, I finally came to the result, that my e52 is the best solution in my case although it is not perfect - with its calender (s40-calender was much better, with better items and simpler parameters) and its T9 (typing on my s40-3120c is double time quicker than on the e52).
The c3-01 for sure is a brilliant phone, also the x3-02 - the concept of Touch-and-Type is top, combined with the quick s40-operating-system. The combination of Touchscreen with 12-keys-keyboard was very interesting for me. The first test with this phone was also great - top feeling, easy understanding, quick system, good browser, great WLAN functionality, the good "old" calender and T9 behaviour.
BUT:
Then I read, that this phone doesn't support Google Maps or any other navigation tool, because the navigation buttons are now solved as touch behaviour.
Then I searched for apps for this phone, but barely found some.Only themes, sounds etc. - everything, which is compatible to these phones.
The problem is in the end, that Nokia forgot to implement a possibility to simulate cursor keys with the touch pad, e.g. "left" is pressing left area or moving from right to left. Tapping in the middle would be th Nav button.
With such a adapter/converter it would be possible to use every tool for S40 and QVGA screen on the c3-01 and x3-02.
So actually those mobiles are great ones - but without apps and without maps But IMHO it is not that important e.g. for pedestrians to know the own position, but it is important, WHERE somebody can find WHAT, e.g. where is that restaurant? With a browser you can find out the adress, but then again one has to hask somebody for the way to that adress.
I used a normal simple s40-phone before, but it hat Google Maps, and only today I looked for a watch service, and I could find the place and the way to that service. With a c3-01 there would have been NO WAY.
Maybe somebody at Nokia reads this proposal - Touch-and-Type is a brilliant idea, but something very essential is still missing.
Best regards,
Schlaumy
"Two beer or not two beer?"

Sorry to hear about the lack of navigation on the C3-01. I was looking at this phone to replace my E51, but I do not want to give up navigation (which works OK on the E51 with the not-approved-by-Nokia version of Ovi Maps posted on this forum, coupled with Maps Booster, only available for purchase outside the USA!). The E52 does sound like the best, but there is no North American version.
Isn't it incredible how Nokia willfully conspires to not quite make the candy-bar phone everyone would want? They so cleverly avoid the obvious home run that I suspect they are afraid it would cannibalize sales from higher end models.
Is Nokia so distracted by the iPhone that they have failed to notice that they are the only contenders for a small, unlocked, international, one-handed phone with long battery life that can nevertheless do Internet, Email, navigate and play music--all without incurring expensive network-connection charges (ie. able to use WLAN)?
Here's what I want, and I am sure many others would too:
unlocked
all international frequencies, voice and data
long battery life
one handed operation: nice T9 keyboard with T9 Nav built in
all frequencies of WLAN
bluetooth
Ovi Maps
Maps Booster built in
SmartConnect built in
sturdy candy-bar form
screen as large as C3-01
sunlight readable display (as E51)
USB charging
USB data access
MicroSD card
3.5 mm stereo
Internet browser as good as E51
IMAP email as good as E51
Come on, Nokia, we know you can make it!
For goodness sake, you're already making the iPhone Nano--now do you understand?

Helpful information, then dont forget to hit the kudos star :-) Or say it accepted solution and thanks

Just a note for people who are as non observant as I was and who might find this useful...
My Nokia 6700 slide wouldn't sync, no matter what I did and even when I installed:
    http://www.novamedia.de/en/mac-isync-plugins.html
    or wrote my own plugins...
For some reason, by default, my Nokia came with Sync settings disabled on the phone.
So to remedy this, go to:
    Settings > Connectivity > Sync >
And select all the things you want to sync before you run iSync.  I missed this in the manual, I spent about 8 hours trying to fix it and all to no avail until I found this simple ommission.
Also, if you need to uninstall the nokia isync plugin, just go to:
    /Library/PhonePlugins
    and delete the relevant files.
    Hope this is useful.

  • No supported calendar application in iTunes for iPod Touch

    Hello everyone,
Right now I'm having trouble syncing my calendar on my iPod touch. I'm using iTunes 7.4.3 and I have Outlook 2003 installed on my computer, but iTunes says "No supported calendar application can be found." in the Calendar section on the info tab. I've tried restoring my Touch several times, in addition to removing / reinstalling iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support several times, and now I'm at a loss.
The weird thing is, I had a 1st gen nano hooked up to this computer as well, and for that iPod, iTunes could detect Outlook just fine. I have no idea why this is happening with my iPod Touch. Any help?

I am facing your problem too. My iTunes seems do not recognize my Outlook 2002 SP3. I am using Traditional Chinese Edition on WinXP SP2 T.Chinese platform. Is it the cause of this problem? Hope that anyone can help us.

  • #NextChapter for Nokia and Microsoft

    Hello community!
Today we have big news! Below here you’ll find today’s announcement regarding Microsoft to acquire Nokia Devices & Services, signed by Nokia’s and Microsoft CEOs, if you wish to read the original in English language go here: http://conversations.nokia.com/2013/09/03/the-next-chapter-an-open-letter-from-steve-ballmer-and-ste...
Nokia and Microsoft have always dreamed big – we dreamed of putting a computer on every desk, and a mobile phone in every pocket, and we’ve come a long way toward realizing those dreams.
Today marks a moment of reinvention.
Nokia has an identity spanning 150 years of heritage, innovation, excellence, and change which began and will continue in Finland, as well as around the world. From humble beginnings as a paper mill, to manufacturing rubber boots and car tires, and then to mobile phones, reinvention is in Nokia’s blood.
Now Nokia will write its next chapter, focused on enabling mobility through its leadership in networking, mapping & location, and advanced technologies.
For Microsoft as well, today is a bold step into the future, a huge leap forward on our journey of creating a family of devices and services that delight people and empower businesses of all sizes.
Our partnership over the past two and a half years, which combined our respective strengths to build a new global mobile ecosystem, has created incredible results: award-winning phones and amazing services that have made Nokia Windows Phones the fastest-growing smartphones in the world.
Building on this successful partnership, we announced some important news today: an agreement for Microsoft to purchase Nokia’s Devices & Services business, to deliver more choices, faster innovation, and even more exciting devices and services to our customers.
Today’s agreement will accelerate the momentum of Nokia’s devices and services, bringing the world’s most innovative smartphones to more people, while continuing to connect the next billion people with Nokia’s mobile phone portfolio.
With the commitment and resources of Microsoft to take Nokia’s devices and services forward, we can now realize the full potential of the Windows ecosystem, providing the most compelling experiences for people at home, at work and everywhere in between.
We will continue to build the mobile phones you’ve come to love, while investing in the future – new phones and services that combine the best of Microsoft and the best of Nokia.
Nokia and Microsoft are committed to the next chapter.
Together, we will redefine the boundaries of mobility.

I understood completely about Symbian and the direction it was heading in but the camera and hardware were too good to ignore. The 808 is a great great product and I am very happy with my decision.
When its time to upgrade one thing is for certain, I will not be buying a windows phone as Windows 7 smartphone users can attest, the overall support (hardware and software) is just not there now with 'legacy' products.
Going forward, I will continue to get support from the lots of Symbian web sites out there as obviously Nokia (Microsoft) are done with Symbian that's clearly obvious. Do us all a favour and release the symbian code so  it can be managed as open source instead
Trying to encourage symbian developers to change platforms by shutting off the store infrastructure prematurely is nothing more than an attempt to force them to switch to the Windows platform. However, lets hope that they don't switch to Androd or apple instead!
Nokia and Microsoft - Best of luck with this plan (Your going to need it!)

  • Nokia and Symbian support

Nokia have abandoned City Lens for Symbian.. This is what i think!

First i got the Lumia 800 fine then an 900 also good and Nokia declare some some day after that WP8.0 not avail for those phone's.
Next i purchase the avesome Nokia808 pure wiew and being very proud about the camera and also Belle! That 808 give me just what i wanted and i did never miss the LUMIA. It was hard to find behind all LUMIA on the nokia mainpage web but finally i got it. Thanks for that.
Now i read that support will end and some software's is abandomed for symbian.
Well Nokia Do you really think i will get any more Lumia from you. Im very dissapointed about the fast going to kill all Symbian and play out all on one card simple card that you never know if it will go well.
As shareholder and i lose some money also for that so i can ensure you Nokia that im close to give up your product now.

Well if you got the Phone Pggray43 at a Local Corporate store in your Area)  you should be able to return it as long as you have all the contents.!  Phone, Charger and any other accessories that came with it the Box of Course.. As long as you have not went past the 14 Day return.. the store can go over what you used as in Air Time and Data..
Now if you've went past the 14 Day return you be Liable to pay a E.T.F =  Early Termination Fee the fee for this is around $300 so hopefully you have not went past the 14 Day return window the Manager if Available is the one I would talk to tell them your on Social Security and you just can't afford a phone as this I'm sure they'll work with you to get something solved..
Hope ya have Good Luck.! b33

  • What are supported sampling frequency and digitization rates for Zen Micropho

Some MP3's are playing back slowly. It is inconsistent, though, since files with the same digitization rate and sampling frequency will behave differently - some right speed, some slow.
    The bulletin board says:
"My tracks don't play at the correct speed e.g. they play too slowly, why?
Chances are they are encoded in an unsupported sampling frequency..."
How do I find out what the supported sampling fequencies and digitization rates are?

Thanks for the info. I guess I was looking for something more specific - the exact bitrates and sample rates that Creative claims to support. Would you know where official and comprehensi've data can be had? There must be a tech spec somewhere.
It is common these days in business to see a recording of, say, a conference call or seminar presentation at 32k bitrate/025Hz, or even 24k bitrate/8000Hz, posted to a company's website for download by those who could not be there, and MP3 players are increasingly used for their replay. Companies use low digitization rates because there is no need for hifi and the files are much smaller: less storage, faster download.
I'd be surprized to think that Creative don't have compatibility with the standard range of rates offered by ubiquitous programs like Audacity and dBpower, the latter being one they themselves recommend!

Wanting to move to single-click publishing (supported by MobileMe), I now find it is not supported by iCloud and Mountain Lion. I feel cheated, having bought it mainly for this purpose! The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

After I tried to update my iPod 4 to iOS 5, my screen turned to the USB cord pointing to the iTunes symbol. When I try to restore it, it says that the 3014 error has occured. I went to check for support on iTunes and I did download the latest version of iTunes (11.1.1). I tried to restore it again and the same error occured. I dont understand half of the instructions for the resolution of the 3014 error code so I did the instructions that I understood and nothing has changed. Please tell me how I can fix it.

The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
