Weak wi-fi connection

Hello,
I just got an Iphone 4. It connects to my home or any wi-fi network but as I just walked away 2-3 steps or there is a wall or door from the modem the connection is lost.
Thanks

check the chennel your WiFi router is poerating. It might be that it interferes with other WiFi routers at the same channel.

  • I currently have an ipad 2 that has weak strength in connecting to wifi. My kindle will connect from my upstairs, but ipad 2 will not. Is the ipad air better with connection strength?

I currently have an ipad 2 that seems to be very weak in picking up wifi connection. I have a kindle that picks up the signal from my upstairs, but my ipad will not.  Does the air have better capability in doing this?  Would think of upgrading, as my ipad 2 also seems to be losing battery life quicker.  Thanks!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netwhttp://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Since the last update to iTunes 11.0.3 (42) the airplay connection is not working properly , keeping breaking up

since the last update to iTunes 11.0.3 (42) the airplay connection is not working properly , keeping breaking up, while the airplay works fine with my iPad and iPhone. Anyone has experienced the same? any fix available?

    Hi Erdelestre,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities!
See this article for some tips about troubleshooting AirPlay:
    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring

Troubleshooting performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your iOS device, Apple TV or AirPort Express. Try the following suggestions:
Ensure that other devices are not trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Turn off Bluetooth on your iOS device by tapping Settings > General > Bluetooth.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If possible, try to locate your Wi-Fi router in the same room as your Apple TV and iPhone/iPad.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
If the Wi-Fi router has an external antenna, check to see that is it connected properly and in good condition.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.

  • Streaming desktop mac to apple tv via Airplay-Monitor is currently very bad connection since last updates

    Hello
I have this simple Problem. I can't watch any Movies or listen any Music by streaming my Desktop to the Apple TV Box (via AirPlay-Monitor) anymore since latest updates (Mac book and Apple TV Box). I also updated my fritbox 3390 but is not working
Streaming my Desktop to Apple TV Box was working very good before.
Does anyone know what this problem is?
    Thank you in advance

    Hello mirko,
If you are still experiencing streaming issues to your Apple TV from your MacBook, I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article:

If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
    Ethernet Connection
Temporarily disable firewalls (both network and local) and security software. Security software and firewalls may block ports that AirPlay uses to stream content. You can often resolve issues with security software by updating, correctly configuring, or uninstalling security software.

  • Anyone know how to connect to a Diamond WR300N?

I live in a very narrow three story house. My wireless router is on the first floor but my iMac is on the third floor. I get a weak and slow connection up there. I picked up a Diamond WR300N repeater and set it up but I'm not sure how to connect to it. Using the tool here: http://tools.meraki.com/stumbler I can see two networks with the same name, with the repeated one being much stronger than the other. How do I tell the iMac to connect to the stronger one? Network preferences pane just shows one router and judging by the ip address I'm connecting to the first floor router rather than the second floor repeater.

    Hello;
I don't know the details about that particular sensor, but as long as the sensor gives a voltage signal, you can use the SCXI-1328 Users Manual to double check how the connections are made.
You can download the Users Manual from NI's home page.
    Hope this helps.

  • Linksys E4200 - has to reboot to connect again with the internet

I bought the E4200 a month ago (replaced D-link DIR-655) and since then I have to reboot it twice.
I have a NAS connected to the router (and router to cable modem) and sometimes I have to FTP files from abroad. If I use the FTP too much time the E4200 just loose connectivity with the internet. Once home I have to reboot it in order to connect again with the internet. It never happen me before with the D-Link.
Does anybody has a similar problem?
    Thanks!

Actually mine is working great now, almost as if it had a break-in period.
Mine has not flashed once in the past day (or more) and the last time I rebooted it was Wednesdsay evening (only to see if I could stop the flashing which was still happening
    at that time).
I was also online on an interactive (gaming / gambling) site that is very quick to report what it considers "disconnects" if it sees any weakness in the connection to its servers and when using the E4200 it did NOT disconnect a single time all day yesterday.
(My Belkin N1 Vision wireless router connection via my Rosewill RNX-N1 USB adapter had been "disconnecting" multiple several days in a row although I was able to surf the web without issues while it reported me as disconnected).
    Possible reasons everything is fine:
    1) I placed the router's four ridiculously tiny feet on four thick wooden drink coasters
to give it more breathing room.
The flashing stopped a day or two later... (Keep in mind the router is less than a week old, so the reason it stopped flashing could be unrelated).
My wireless signal strength does seem to be sensitive to a 5.8 GHz cordless phone strangely even though it is a 2.4 GHz wireless adapter.
Just turning the phone (which has an INternal anntenna and is about 3 1/2 feet away from my wireless adapter at the moment) 15 or 20 degrees immediately changed the wireless signal quality from 4 bars to 3 bars and vice versa!!!
    2) As far as my needing to reboot it that one time (during the first full day I owned the E4200):
I had been switching between two different model Rosewill wireless adapters a few times that afternoon (same chipset, same driver I believe and even show up as
same device in 32 bit Windows 7 Device Manager) without restarting the router after each switch
Since that one reboot, everything has been fine and my connection has been solid (pingtest.net tests over wireless produce an 'A' and speed has been for the most part relatively stable at 130 Mbps).
I hope thay helps others here (especially Part 1 above).
So overall I am extremely happy now.
I now just need to see what the implications are by the current lack of official IPv6 support in the E4200 (will post separately about that).
I noticed that my "IPv6 connectivity" on the wireless connection showed "no internet".
I just ran some IPv6 tests online (on two separate sites) and they passed and, lo and behold, now it shows "internet access" (again) for IPv6 (and not just IPv4 as it did before)!

  • I Have an Iphone 4 and I am having constant hassles with facetime, I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problems. I keep getting an error message saying bad connection. I have the latest updates installed on my Iphone.

I have constant messages of Poor connection coming up on my phone when I facetime, I am at home and I am using my home wi-fi, Why is this happening.

FaceTime uses Wi-Fi, so you have a weak Wi-Fi connection message. Your Wi-Fi needs to be upgraded.

  • Stream connection throws IOException

i am using a stream connection for the midp 1.0. The client logs into a server using a StreamConnection and all this is cool.
But the application waits at the DataInputStream.read and then thows the IOException.
my code is something like this,,
    while(true)
    if ((i = dataInputStream.read()) == -1)
    // some logic here
the dataInputStream.read() throws the exception after approximately 7 to 8 seconds.
anyone has an idea as to whats going wrong? why is the connection not being maintained.
    Thankyou,
    Balaji.

Thankyou shmoove. The code is here.
The server is setup to send information every 3 seconds to the client (upon client request,, which is working fine). For your reference,, the same code works perfectly fine with a Series 60 (midp2.0) phone, and so does the server. except that i use a SocketConnection for the midp 2.0 phone. For the very reason that midp 1.0 does not support the SocketConnection, i have to use a StreamConnection instead. the dataInputSream is bound with the StreamConnection object.
I think the StreamConnection is somehow not persistant ,, in the sense the connection is not maintained.
    Please tell me whats wrong,
    Thankyou,
    Balaji.

    Hello atef from egypt,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To help resolve this issue where your computer cannot connect to your AirPlay-enabled device, please follow the information outlined below.
    Wi-Fi Connection
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your AirPlay-enabled device.
Ensure that other devices aren't trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
    Ethernet Connection

The computer I am working on is windows based and hard wired to the network, not wi-fi. I get this message saying hte network connection was reset almost everytime I try to download on itunes; but I am not having connectivity issues with any other program.

FaceTime uses Wi-Fi, so you have a weak Wi-Fi connection message. Your Wi-Fi needs to be upgraded.

  • WRT54GL: Only connects if unprotected

    Hi,
i have installed the router(WRT54GL) as instructed. But it only works when the security is set to inactivated. When protected, the laptop still finds the connection and tries to connect, but i get a "Weak or non connectivity", and can't connect to the internet.
I've tried WEP and WPA, with hex key and keyphrase. I've shut off modem, router and computer. I've reset the router and reinstalled from scratch. Still the same.
The problem is exactly the same when trying to connect it from my Wii, works perfectly when it's unprotected, but the connection fails with WPA or WEN.
    I'd appreciate help greatly!

    heh.. this is easy...
    follow along:
change the security to WEP 64bit 10 HEX digits..
now u have 2 options... either clear the preferred network lists from your laptop of change the SSID name on the router...
try connection again and u shud be able to do it..
    lemme know hows it goes..
    cheers..

  • Weak wifi internet signal while on battery

Hi everyone, I bought a DV6 in 2011. I got a weird issue a few days ago. I usually browsed on Internet normally on my laptop and everything was fine. But one day, I unplugged the AC adapter from my laptop and I started to experience a very weak wifi internet connection. At this moment I thought something's wrong with my ISP so I called them. After troubleshooting, they stated that the problem comes from my laptop. Randomly, I just plugged the AC adapter from laptop and everything was fine, I mean worked normally . But I unplugged the AC adapter the problem came back. So I wanted to know if there is a relation between the wifi connection strenght and the AC adapter/battery. Please help me

  • Airport Express 802.11g Airplay Connection Issues

My dad has had an AirPort Express 802.11g hooked up to his stereo for a couple of years now. Uses it only to stream music. Our WiFi network is run by an older AirPort Extreme 802.11n (2nd Generation). Express firmware is at 6.3, as high as it can go for the g models.
2 months ago, I got my dad an iPhone 5 running iOS 6, and upgraded his MacBook to run OS X 10.7 Lion so he could sync and use iCloud and all that stuff. From that moment forward, connections to the AirPort Express are awful or nonexistent for most devices. Many times after you tell iTunes or the Music app to connect to it, when you hit play nothing will happen. Sometimes the progress bar will move, but no sound will play. Other times the sound will start, go for ~5 seconds, and then cut out. No issues with staying on the WiFi network.
Devices AirPlay DOES NOT work properly with:
    - Dad's MacBook (final-gen plastic model) running OS X 10.7
    - Dad's iPhone 5 (iOS 6)
    - My iPhone 4S (iOS 6)
    Devices AirPlay DOES work with:
    - Dad's older iMac running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
    - My MacBook Air running OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion
None of his music is on the iMac, and the concept of doing a VNC to make it work would be far out of his level of understanding.
Is this a case of me just needing to get him a new AirPort Express for full compatibility, or is there another workaround? Eventually I'm going to get him off of his MacBook and up to something more currently, like my Air in September when I upgrade.
This is practically the only thing my dad uses his computer for, so any help I can receive to get this working would be MUCH appreciated.

  • Adobe CC Connection

I am having problem with connection after trying to sign in. Pls help....

Thank you John. If I understand correctly I would have to download two times CC, once for each iMac, through two rather weak wireless internet connection. If this indeed correct it appears that my setup won't allow me to use CC. I am a professional and I do not want to fight software or network settings more than absolutely necessary. I will stick to Aperture and Photoshop CS5 then.

  • Connecting wirelessly sin an internet cafe

Bit of an odd one, this. I have a new MacBook Air and a friend has a new MacBook Pro. Both of us were using our laptops in an internet cafe in France where the proprietor has a Livebox as his router and no security - no WEP, WPA or mac address filtering (yes, really - it's a tiny village). Initially both of us got very weak signals but connected to his router and were online. Then the next day neither of us could connect. Both my Air and my friend's Macbook couldn't see the network at all.
However, her old iBook connected fine; so too did other customers using Windows laptops.
I got him to try changing the channel on the Livebox - no joy. I'm baffled as to why first we got a pathetically weak signal despite being within a metre of the Livebox, and then even more baffled as to why we couldn't connect at all. My friend eventually gave in and used a wired connection, but of course this wasn't an option for me with the Air as it has no ethernet port.
    Any thoughts?
