Weather Channel HD question...no local weather?

So quick question - why is there local weather on the SD version but not the HD version?  That's just strange.  I searched on the board and found a question on this over a year old, and I find it hard that they haven't found a solution in all this time, especially with the new upgrades.  How would you get local weather warnings on the HD feed?

Weather channel uses a specialized computer called IntelliStar at each of the cable company's local head end to overlay graphics when the "Weather on the 8's" comes up. There is currently a HD version out, but it is still being tested in select markets. Here's the wikipedia link if you want to read more about it...

  • Question to local workbench request

    Hi,
    I have question to local workbench request. If this kind of request is released, is it stored also in the local transport folder (/usr/sap/trans...) in the file system? Or where I can find it?
    Thanks for your answers.

    Hello Andreas,
    A local workbench TR or for that matter any local Transport Request is one which has no target group/target system assigned to it and hence even after releasing it the changes stored in it don't get moved to other systems.
    A local TR when released does not get stored in /usr/sap/trans folder as data and co-files for local TRs don't get created.
    A released local TR can be viewed in SE01 transaction in SAP.
    Please let us know what is your exact requirement with local workbench TR? May be we will be able to help you out with that.
    PS award points if you found this answer useful.
    Regards.

  • Question about Local Variables (Multiple answers welcomed!)

    A couple of questions about Local Variables
    1. Programmers always say: “Do not abuse of Local Variables”. I’d like to know, when and where Local variable are most efficiently used?
    2. If I have to create a couple of local variables, is there anyway to “clone” them without going through the repetitive “create/local variables” mouse click each time? (When I try to copy and paste, it creates a new variables instead of the one that I am trying to reproduce)
    3. Which is faster in execution: Updating a variable through a) writing to property node/value or b) through local variable
    Everyone’s input is welcomed, so if this question is already answered, please
    feel free to add additional comments/answers!

    1. Use Local Variables in user interface code and no where else. The only exception is using a local variable of a cluster output to define the datatype for a bundle by name node.
    2. You can drag copy them then right click to get to a menu of all the currently defined controls and indicators on the VI.
    3. B. The problem with A is that it forces a thread switch to the user interface thread--which can take time if you aren't already in it, and it's a very convoluted process under the hood. NI's advice never update indicator values through a property node unless you absolutely, positively can't figure out some other way of doing it.

  • Weather Channel App Question?

    When I open the Weather Channel App on my 8330 it always goes to a screen that says "The waether channel is requesting changes to its application control permissions"
    How can I stop this? What settings is it looking for?
    Thanks

    Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    The settings it is looking for should display when you continue into the permissions screen. You "stop it" by allowing the settings it is requesting. If you do not allow the settings it is requesting, it will forever nag you with the request because the application is coded to require those settings. To change that, you'd have to contact the app developer.
    The only caveat here is if you are subject to an IT Policy. It may be that a setting it requires is not accessible to you due to IT Policy restrictions. In which case, there's no way for you to grant the setting it is requesting, and it will forever nag you. To change that, you'd have to talk to your BES administrators about changing the IT Policy.
    Good luck!

  • How to view channels used by other local wireless networks?

    I use a wireless airport network in my office, with my Airport Express (802.11g) base station about 10 feet from my iMac. I get a lot of interference (from other networks or cordless phones) and despite interference robustness being on, my airport signal gets dropped fairly often -- and with it, I lose my Internet access and wireless printer.
    There are about 15 other local wireless networks (owned by other businesses). I thought I might improve my interference robustness by switching my wireless channel to a channel used by the least number of other networks.
    Now, I seem to remember running into an (Apple) app somewhere that showed these local wireless networks with their channels. But now I can't find it again, so I can't tell which channel is least used. I hope someone can help me find that app or functionality again!
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the suggestion; I checked it out and found some questionable reviews on VersionTracker for iStumbler so I'm hesitant to jump right in (does it still fill up the Console log?)
    In any case, I seem to remember finding channel information using some other application or preferences pane or something already on my system, but now I can't remember where. Is there any app that comes with OS X that shows channels on local wireless networks? I can't find this feature in Airport Utility.
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • [Other 865 Series] MSI 865PE Neo2-V and Dual Channel Mode Question

    Hello, I have a quick question regarding dual channel mode with my current motherboard. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-V and am wondering if it is possible to enable dual channel mode while having three RAM modules inserted in the motherboard.
    For example, I currently have one 512MB PC3200 module in my computer. If I purchase another 512MB module and run them in dual channel mode, will it be possible to buy a 1GB module or another size module, and still have all three slots run in dual channel mode? Or is dual channel only operational on this motherboard if only two of the three slots are occupied?
    Thanks.

    Dual channel requires an even number of sticks.

  • EXTREMELY URGENT!!  Last question on Local Interfaces

    Using Oracle9iAS 9.0.3
    Running on RedHat 8.0
    Trying to implement local interfaces to my entity bean. (Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE for 9.0.3) provides an example for writing local interfaces.
    pg. 2-10 states:
    //The variable is specified in the assembly descriptor (META-INF/ejb-jar.xml)
    Object homeObject = context.lookup("java:comp/env/EmployeeLocalBean");
    but, if you look at the ejb-jar.xml they reference, it's as follows (pg. 2-12):
    <ejb-jar>
    <enterprise-beans>
    <session>
    <description>Session Bean Employee Example</description>
    <ejb-name>EmployeeBean</ejb-name>
    <home>employee.EmployeeHome</home>
    <remote>employee.Employee</remote>
    <local-home>employee.EmployeeLocalHome</local-home>
    <local>employee.EmployeeLocal</local>
    <ejb-class>employee.EmployeeBean</ejb-class>
    <session-type>Stateless</session-type>
    <transaction-type>Bean</transaction-type>
    </session>
    </enterprise-beans>
    </ejb-jar>
    Where does the EmployeeLocalBean name come from for the lookup?!
    Also, do I NEED to deploy BOTH remote and local interfaces to get my local interfaces to work? Another post on this forum had a problem where they couldn't view the configurations of the EJB because there were not remote interfaces available, but then later they said it was just a problem with the web-based Enterprise Manager.
    Please, can someone let me know if these questions are not interesting enough to the forum? Has nobody here ever implemented Local Interfaces on 9.0.3? Do I need to be posting these questions to a different forum? Please advise and I will take care to get my answers elsewhere if necessary.
    It's just that every resource I've looked at for Local Interfaces (which 9.0.3 CAN implement...right?!) has conflicting information and seems to have buggy implementations. Please....help!
    Thanks in advance!

    Strangely enough, I'm not aware of troubles with enviroment variables and JNDI lookup. There are some misunderstandings - compared to WLS, JNDI tree is different.
    Here is an example of Session EJB settings:
    <session>
    <description>Session Bean ( Stateless )</description>
    <display-name>XSLTransformerEJB</display-name>
    <ejb-name>XSLTransformerEJB</ejb-name>
    <local-home>com.ness.europe.integration.transformer.XSLTransformerEJBLocalHome</local-home>
    <local>com.ness.europe.integration.transformer.XSLTransformerEJBLocal</local>
    <ejb-class>com.ness.europe.integration.transformer.impl.XSLTransformerEJBBean</ejb-class>
    <session-type>Stateless</session-type>
    <transaction-type>Bean</transaction-type>
    <env-entry>
    <description>path to root transformatin file</description>
    <env-entry-name>config/RootTransformFile</env-entry-name>
    <env-entry-type>java.lang.String</env-entry-type>
    <env-entry-value>/oracle/product/IAS903/j2ee/MwCezPassport/xslt/passport.xslt</env-entry-value>
    </env-entry>
    </session>
    Next, there is an MDB with reference to it:
    <message-driven>
    <description>Message Driven Bean</description>
    <display-name>PassportMDB</display-name>
    <ejb-name>PassportMDB</ejb-name>
    <ejb-class>com.ness.europe.integration.inbound.mdb.InboundMDBBean</ejb-class>
    <transaction-type>Bean</transaction-type>
    <acknowledge-mode>Auto-acknowledge</acknowledge-mode>
    <message-driven-destination>
    <destination-type>javax.jms.Queue</destination-type>
    <subscription-durability>Durable</subscription-durability>
    </message-driven-destination>
    <ejb-local-ref>
    <ejb-ref-name>ejb/XSLTransformerEJB</ejb-ref-name>
    <ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
    <local-home>com.ness.europe.integration.transformer.XSLTransformerEJBLocalHome</local-home>
    <local>com.ness.europe.integration.transformer.XSLTransformerEJBLocal</local>
    <ejb-link>XSLTransformerEJB</ejb-link>
    </ejb-local-ref>
    There is basically this piece of code to do lookup environment variable:
    String toRet = (String)this.initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env/config/" + paramName);
    (of course, the config prefix is our syntax)
    As for EJB lookup, this is used:
    final InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
    return (XSLTransformerEJBLocalHome)context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/XSLTransformerEJB");
    I didn't created those beans but I asked mate from my team and answer as to troubles was "no".
    Is the problem lies in "not hard coded" names of beans in lookup? We are not trying to get "env/ejb" but just straighforwardly EJB using its name.

  • Japanese, Question Marks, Locales, Eclipse, and Windows XP ????

    Hello. I am having some issues localizing JSP to Japanese. I have read a lot of stuff on the topic. I have my .properties file in unicode with native2ascii, etc.
    When I debug under Eclipse 3.0, I see the Japanese characters correctly displayed in my properties file and inside of strings internal to to the program. However, when I try to print them with a System.out.println, I get question marks (??????).
    My reading tells me that the ???? indicate that the characters cannot be displayed. I am somewhat confused because in the same Eclipse context I can clearly see the Japanese characters in the debugging window.
    Thus I am missing the part where I set my standard output to correctly display the characters like Eclipse is displaying them in windows other than the "Console" window.
    My default encoding is CP1252. If I do something like:
    out = new java.io.PrintStream(System.out, true, "UTF-8");
    and print my unicoded resource from the bundle I get the UTF-8 character representation (&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;). With System.out.println I get ?????
    My first reaction would be that the Japanese fonts aren't on my system, but clearly they are as I can see them in other windows.
    When I try to show a Japanese resource on the web page that is the result of the jsp file I get ????. I can display the same characters UTF-8 encoded in a php page.
    Here is another example:
    java.util.Locale[] locales = { new java.util.Locale("en", "US"), new java.util.Locale("ja","JP"), new java.util.Locale("es", "ES"),
    new java.util.Locale("it", "IT") };
    for (int x=0; x< locales.length; ++x) {
    String displayLanguage = locales[x].getDisplayLanguage(locales[x]);
    System.out.println(locales[x].toString() + ": " + displayLanguage);
    displays:
    en_US: English
    ja_JP: ???
    es_ES: espaol
    it_IT: italiano
    instead of the correct Japanese characters.
    What's the secret?
    Thanks.
    -- Gary

    What do you want to do exactly? 1. Making a window application? 2. Making a console application? 3. Making a JSP webpage?
    1. If it's window application, there's nothing to worry about if you use Swing. But if you use AWT, it's time to switch to Swing.
    2. If you're making console application, solution does exist as others had pointed out but you'd better forget it because no console in whatever platform supports Unicode (Linux xterm may be an exception? But it probably has font problem). So, even if you could display characters in your computer, the solution isn't universal. You can't ask your every user to switch system locale, install whatever font in order to display a few characters!!
    3. If you're making JSP, I'd advise you to use UTF-8 in webpages. Most browsers nowadays (probably more than 90%) could support UTF-8. All you need is to add the following JSP headers to your every page:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=utf-8" %>
    <%@ page pageEncoding="iso-8859-1" %>Now, your every out.println(s); will send the correct data to browser without the least effort from you. All conversions are automatic!
    However, just to make things even surer, you could add this HTML meta header:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">You use Tomcat, right? I do, and I don't have any problem.
    Last words:
    But, if all you want to do with System.out.println is for debugging, you could use
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "your string here");But you'd better have Java 5, or at least 1.4.2, if you want to have everything displayed correctly.

  • Embarrasing question about local domain. [SOLVED]

    OK,
    Every time I set a box up I name it blackbox, tanbox, lap1 etc. But when I get to the local domain I use "kitchen" . So All the computers in the house have "kitchen" as the local domain. My question is should it be kitchen.net, .org, .com or does it matter? Do I need to specify .net, .com etc or can I just leave it as blackbox.kitchen. [edit] Or do you guys just leave localdomain as ....localdomain ?
    Is that clear?
    Thanks,
    McRae
    ps I've tried to google this and search the forums but I cannot find an answer to this.

    No , *never* use in your LAN the ID (or domain name) of a registered public domain or a fictitious name it is a matter of time before it creates you trouble.
    This explanation of using NAT will give you an idea of what I mean:
    The effect is to hide multiple hosts behind a single public IP address. Notice it is the action of sending a packet from the LAN to a host on the Internet that creates a return translation entry. Until a host on the LAN initiates contact, it is invisible to the public Internet. It has no public IP address and traffic addressed to the gateway machine is not forwarded to the LAN since there is no reverse translation entry.
    Now ... if the LAN has someone else public ID, there would be a conflict would it not? and where do the packet goes ... only God knows.
    Hope this helps.

  • Configuration Question on  local-scheme and high-units

    I run my Tangosol cluster with 12 nodes on 3 machines(each machine with 4 cache server nodes). I have 2 important configuration questions. Appreciate if you can answer them ASAP.
    - My requirement is that I need only 10000 objects to be in cluster so that the resources can be freed upon when other caches are loaded. I configured the <high-units> to be 10000 but I am not sure if this is per node or for the whole cluster. I see that the total number of objects in the cluster goes till 15800 objects even when I configured for the 10K as high-units (there is some free memory on servers in this case). Can you please explain this?
    - Is there an easy way to know the memory stats of the cluster? The memory command on the cluster doesn't seem to be giving me the correct stats. Is there any other utility that I can use?

  • SPA2102 Multi-CHannel configuration question

    I was hoping that someone would know the answer
    to this question.  Is it possible to set up a SPA2102 with one did on port 1, and have
    have an additional channel on port 2 that calls can roll to if port 1 is busy?  I have some clients that are
    small office home office and only need 2 lines, this is the most inexpensive way to accomplish this.
    I appreciate any and all help!
    Jim

    Jim,
    Of course it should be possible but the implementation may depend on your particular setup. You can use call_forward_on_busy feature either within the spa or the softswitch if it is under your control.
    Hope this helps.

  • V1.9 Channel Guide - Questions & Concerns

    In speaking with customer support this morning, it would appear that my only recourse for letting Verizon know that I don’t like the new Channel Guide is to make a post on the forums and this looks more appropriate that the tech forums after looking around a bit.
    Cable Television issues:
    To start, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the old channel guide and I can’t figure out what the new guide does better aside from possibly displaying a few more channels per page…at the cost of incorporating a GIANT active dvr UI (user interface), an awful color scheme and a PiP window in the channel guide that seems to have had its size reduced to about ¼ of the previous one.
    Does anyone know if there’s a way to change the display back to the old style or at least something close to it? I only had 15 minutes to play around with it this morning before work, but the rest of the new display styles are even worse than the standard one and I was hoping there was another options section that I didn’t notice as far as the overall display goes.
    DVR issues:
    For those of you who use the verizon DVR services, that display has also changed and I can only assume that it’s geared towards displaying commercials while we use the dvr functions b/c there’s no other reason for it to take up so much room on the screen at the moment.
    The previous dvr display used to consist of a small horizontal bar across the bottom of the screen that displayed the basic channel info (channel #, name of the show, run time etc etc), showed you the speed at which it was rewinding or fast forwarding and the point in the show that you were currently watching. With the update, the DVR window is MASSIVE and it has to be taking up close to 1/3 of the screen when you hit the FF, RW or play button. However, even with the new giant dvr display, there’s nothing being utilized in the actual display and I have a feeling it’s going to be used for corporate commercials or simply advertising verizon on-demand programming.
    The new channel guide is clearly slower than the old one and the dvr seems sluggish too. As I said earlier, I just didn’t see anything that warranted the huge makeover and I have trouble understanding how this new version of the channel guide could’ve possibly been beta tested by anyone and wound up in this state.
    I love the verizon internet speed and I’ve come to find that their customer service is excellent, but this change was possibly enough to make me drop the full package I currently utilize and simply maintain the internet going forward for the sake of accessing websites like hulu & netflix for my television needs.

    The only thing that’s changed about my opinion of the new channel guide after having a chance to really play around with it after work yesterday is that it’s even worse than I had initially thought.
    While I think the color scheme is really ugly and a poor choice, at least it wasn’t handled as badly as the new layouts. I mean, really….there’s so much empty & wasted space that it’s hard to understand how this could’ve been beta tested or handled by professionals unless there really are going to be a lot of additional advertisements eventually crammed into the channel guide layout while we’re looking through the guide or dvr.
    The search bar at the bottom of the screen, which now causes dvr function & channel info displays to take up over 1/3 of the screen, contains NOTHING except for the basic channel info, the time and an indicator that you should hit the ‘B’ button to open the search function. It could’ve easily been reduced by at least 50% considering how little information it actually displays…yet someone thought it would be better if it obscured a lot of screen space.
    It wouldn’t be so bad, but on top of taking up a lot of screen space, this new search bar shows up all over the guide layouts. As it brings almost nothing to the table and presents the information as poorly as possible, I can only assume that Verizon REALLY wants people to start using the search function b/c there’s absolutely no reason for it to take up so much space.
    There are some new channel guide options for different layouts and while I hate just about everything related to v1.9, I will say this; the ‘Channel Guide’ listing is almost useful in that it can be used as a secondary guide option to view a particular channels lineup for the day. Unfortunately, someone decided that it needed to have giant channel logos, so that section takes up about 25% of the layout for that guide. While it’s a nice layout for the intended purpose, outside of the stupid channel logos hogging up so much room, I’m not really sure why this was needed vs the previous method of simply pressing the button that scrolls to the right for a particular channel once you’re in the guide.
     The layout that’s most similar to the old guide, Full Listing, has an absurd amount of empty space that’s being sacrificed for the aforementioned giant search bar at the bottom of the guide, a window carved out for channel logos that’s about 2x-3x too big for the actual logos being used and another empty space below the logo window where 2 channel numbers are displayed. Here we have yet another baffling instance of awful layout implementation for no apparent reason. Aside from eventually forcing us to watch more advertisements, I can’t even begin to imagine how this passed some kind of final approval  b/c there’s no reason to have so much empty space when redesigning any kind of layout.
    The other glaring mistake in the Full listing layout is that the display indicator that shows you where you’re at in a particular channel block and/or show is at the top of the screen. Which, if you think about it, was a poor decision since the channel guide always stays in the middle of the channel block you’re viewing and the new bar doesn’t seem to lineup properly with the shows based on watching some tv last night. The old layout let you know exactly where you were with the show you’re watching whereas the new is displayed in such a way that it’s become more of a ‘close guestimate’ since it will never overlap with the actual show you’re watching as it’s now anchored to the top of the guide.
    Here’s a free one, the channel you have highlighted in the channel guide should have the time display bar right above it so that you don’t need to look in two places at once to see where shows start/end and where you’re actually at in relation to the programming.
    To be fair, I didn’t notice any sluggishness last night as everything seemed to be moving very smoothly and I’m using hardware that’s at least 3-4 years old. Maybe they patched something or maybe the earlier sluggishness was just a temporary inconvenience. However, I still haven’t found anything that comes even remotely close to warranting the implementation of a new program guide aside from the proposed theory of eventually forcing us to view advertisements via the vast amounts of empty space that were purposely chosen for the current layout.

  • Alpha channel export question

    I have an editor that keyed the green screen out of some footage but because we're having a problem settling on a background (we're in different locations) I just want him to send me the keyed footage with the black transparent background so I can do that part.
    Is there a certain codec he needs to export with to keep the alpha transparent channel so I can place the background in? He's working in FCP 6 and I'm working in FCP7 but it's not going to be a project file, just a uncompressed .mov export from final cut. It was shot with HD 720p.
    Thank You,
    Steve

    Just to clarify: Prepare your sequence with alpha, make sure it's what you want,
    (which may require rendering).
    Then, just before you export, do something to force FCP to require a re-render
    (like deleting the render file) and +export without rendering+. That will avoid
    the black background, and your transparency will be transparent.

  • Dynamic Channel Assignment Question

    I have a WLC 4400, and I have discovered that some areas, the access points are on the same channel. For example the floor have four access points, and the access points are working in this channels:
    AP01=channel 01
    AP02=channel 11
    AP03=channel 11
    AP04=channel 11
    If Dynamic Channel Assignment is enable in the controller, Why the access points are on the same channel?
    The access points are near each other.
    WLC4400 System version 6.0
    Any suggestion?
    Is better manual configuration?

    Hi Nicolas I have this situation:
    AP Name.......................................... AP22
    MAC Address...................................... 00:1d:a1:zz:yy:xx
      Radio Type..................................... RADIO_TYPE_80211b/g
      Radar Information
          Recommended Best Channel..................... 1
      Nearby APs
        AP AP53 slot 0..................  -67 dBm on   1 ()
        AP AP12 slot 0..................  -57 dBm on   6 ()
    The AP22 is working in the channel 1. ButI have another AP, in the same channel 1, this is normal operation?
    When a Nerby AP is considered away? when the dbm is -70, -71, -72 or -75, -74, -73 ??
    Thanks

  • Alpha Channel Graphics question

    OK, I'm new to KN; I've used Powerpoint for years. I just got iWork (more for pages than KN but. . . ).
    Can I not re-size the picture holders on the templates?
    If not, then this is rather annoying. On one template page, the picture is basically all that is there, with a text box for a title. Yet, the holder is so small that it barely fills 1/3rd of the page. Perhaps that is a design preference for someone, but I would much rather have my picture larger.
    I use powerpoint in the college classroom and often show maps. I don't want to have some tiny picture with lots of empty space around it.
    I did note that I can create my own object area and then resize that, but what's the point of using the cool templates then? When I tried to create my own, I assumed that the neat look (like tape on the chalkboard or push pin on the board) would just show up, and then I could resize.
    Nope. In that case all I got was the picture.
    Please tell me I am missing something obvious and that if I go to X place I'll find the easy way to resize the "Alpha Channel Graphics" (yes, I did go read the PDF guide to see if there was an answer there).

    Carl, to stretch the hole, you will need to stretch the entire background graphic. To do this, first set the slide to the master that has the cutout. The cutout is actually a graphic that is covering the entire master, and it is "locked" so that it can't be moved or changed. Click anywhere on the master background (outside of the cutout hole) to select that graphic, and then in the Arrange menu choose "Unlock". Now the cutout image can be freely manipulated, including stretched larger in either or both directions (using either the control handles at the edges and corners of the image, or the Metrics Inspector).
    The above procedure will change the master, and so will affect any slide using that master. You are better off to unlock the cutout image on the master, copy it, and then paste it on a separate blank slide. That way, changes that you make to the cutout will only affect that one slide.
    I hope this is what you're looking for. As Kyn says, masks give you much more flexibility, and are much easier to use (although admittedly they won't easily give you the borders that some cutouts do).
