Weather Channel Local on the 8's

I live in Peoria, IL and I only recieve Local on the 8's information on the SD channel.  I do not recieve the Local on the 8's on the HD channel, is there a reason for this?

The HD local on the eights is in slow deployment across ComcastLand.  It needs equipment upgrades to make it happen.  There are many posts on the subject on the forum.
Many area's have had it for a year or more.  It will probably happen "eventually".

  • The Weather Channel: Local on the 8's in HD

I guess I should be happier than most, the SD Weather Channel gets a Washingon Metro local-on-the-eights insertion.
However the HD version of the weather channel gets the generic national version.
     What gives?

    The HD version only supplies a generic version of the local forecasts at this time. This is what the Weather Channel says about this issue;
"The technology to produce a detailed Local on the 8s in High Definition is currently under development. We expect to make available a completely re-designed Local on the 8s in HD with a new look and new content in early 2009. In the interim, you will receive the same Local on the 8s that you have been getting in standard definition from your existing provider."

  • Wather Channel local on the 8's - Tucson, AZ

I live in Tucson Arizona. I recently moved from an area serviced by Cox to an area serviced by Comcast. I had access to both systems (still had both houses) until about a month ago. Cox still has Local on the 8's for the Tucson area. Comcast Local on the 8's starts in the northeast and give a rundown of temperatures and forecasts across the country.  The closest the report get to Tucson is Phoenix which is 120 miles north. Pretty much useless since the weather between the 2 areas can be completely different at time. Is there a way to program your actual city in to get local weather? One of the satellite companies is starting to look better!! Thanks!

According to this article, it probably has something to do with the type of Weather Star system that Comcast is using. Also, the reason why you're getting the weather report from Phoenix is probably because that's where Comcast's headend (the Satelite farm that recieves the signal from The Weather Channel) is located at and then transmits the signal over their trunk lines to your locaton in Tucson. There is currently no way that I know of that you can change the location. Although, going to satelite might look better, with satelite you only get The Weather Channel's national feed. You do not get any local on the eight's with satelite. My late father was a subscriber to Direc TV for about 16 years before he passed away and he always used to complain to me about not being able to get the locals on the 8's either. I used to always tell him to use the Internet instead. He had his Internet and phone through Charter. Since you live in Tucson, your best bet for local weather is the Internet with either Comcast's local site for Tucson or The National Weather Service's Tucson office site. The National Weather service is considered the horse's mouth where even most TV and radio station meteorologists get their radar feeds and forecasts from. Here is The Weather Channel's forecast site for Tucson also.

  • Weather Channel Local Forecast

My friends who still have Comcast get local weather with The Weather Channel..........toms River.
Ever since switching To Verizon, we get Newark's weather.
Who cares about Newark, and how do I get Toms River weather again?
If my Comcast friends did not still get Toms River, I'd say it was a problem with the Weather Channel, but they do still get Toms River forcasts.
    Can someon explain?

Robert, thanks for the reply.   We are an hour south of Newark, on the shore as well, so our weather is very different.   I hope your friend is right.
Charles H. employee............tell whomever you should tell that as soon as my year is up, I am switching back to
Comcast.  Nothing you can do about it now?  Robert here has more information that you have, lol
Yesterday I was put on hold for over an hour waiting for tech support in regard to another problem, and was disconnected before I got to speak to anyone.  I called again, was transferred another 5 times and was put on hold for 35 minutes until I hung up.  I don't have time to waste hanging on waiting  to be transferred to every single tech department you have and then hanging on for hours for support that I pay for.
You know, maybe it's worth the cancellation fee to get out of this now.

  • I can't open the Weather Channel's interactive radar map that I've always been able to open in the past.

Up until a few days ago, I've always been able to view The Weather Channels Interactive Local Weather Map for my area. Now it won't open the map and asks if I want to refresh. It still doesn't open. The site works fine on my other computers.
Just wondering if it was something I did by accident that changed something.

If you have Flash Block installed, try uninstalling it. When I had the same issue, I first tried white listing the Weather Channel site in the Flash Block options. When that didn't work, I tried disabling Flash Block. When that didn't work, I uninstalled Flash Block, and the maps worked fine. I'm guessing that there is some incompatibility between the most recent versions of Adobe Flash, Flash Block, and the Weather Channel site.

  • Why was the Weather Channel App changed?

The new weather Channel App for the touchscreen really sucks now. I used to have it as the "Screensaver" because it showed everything all in one place. Now its completly useless. You have to make different selections to see useful info instead of having it all on one screen. You used to be able to walk by, glance at the screen and see everything you needed or wanted to know. Is there any way of getting the old app back on the touchscreen?

LowSC2 wrote: ... Is there any way of getting the old app back on the touchscreen?Since Comcast is only a part owner of the Weather Channel, it would be best to direct your comments to TWC at http://www.weather.com/apps and/or post feedback/ratings to the appropriate app store.

  • Uninstalled weather channel app deleted browser

I uninstalled the Lame Weather Channel App using the desktop manager.  When I tried to access the ESPN app it said that there was no instance of browser.  So I believe that the browser was removed.  I did a restore and the browser is still not on the main screen.  Is there a browser install via the web or on the original CD?  Please help.

  • Weather channel URL changes?

Am I the only one who is seeing the TWC URL change after installing it on the original iPhone's home screen? I've installed my 2 favorite weather channel pages on the home screen so many times. Sometimes they'll work for a day, many times only a few minutes. Anyone else? Oh, yeah, 2.0 firmware.

I found a discussion about this with some more info.

Someone had emailed the weather channel about this and this is the response they got...
"Thanks so much for taking the time to write to us. We felt that the load time for weather.com was excessive so we made the decision to force the mobile site and thereby cut our download time in half. We are actively monitoring this, as well as consumer feedback and may make an update to our current strategy soon.
Thanks for taking the time to let us know how you feel and please send any additional thoughts or comments directly to me."

  • No Local Forecast On The Weather Channel

I have the Weather Channel on FIOS but I don't get my local forecast.

You don't state where your location is, since the results vary from location to location.
    The NYC Metro has:
    1) Channel 49 - Weatherscan from Weather channel
    2) Channel 119 Weather Channel's "Weather on the 8's"
    3) Channel 619 Weatherchannel HD but only national "Weather on the 8's
    4) FIOS News Channels 1/501  (Hudson Valley, Long island or Northern New Jersey)
I prefer option 1 or 4 as the Weather Channel rarely has weather, but now chooses to put on all kinds of weather related reality shows.

  • Weather Channel Missing Local On The 8's and local weather info.

I Have rebooted my box twice and still only get generic/national weather with no local info or maps for two days. According to the Weather Channel: "Your cable provider may be experiencing a technical problem with The Weather Star computer. The Weather Star is a piece of equipment located at your cable system that generates the Local On The 8s graphics for your area. " http://dw.weather.com/interact/contactus/localforecast.html Can someone please fix the box that generates the Local On The 8s graphics for the Claremont, NH area (03743)? Thank you!

Well, it's either coincidence or someone is really on the ball - either way the local came back just 10 minutes after I posted the message above. Thanks!

  • Recently I have been unable to acccess my local weather or other zip code weather reports on the Weather Channel using my laptop. My wife has no problem accessing from her laptop from same location.

This problem is new. I have always been able to access the Weather Channel's website and obtain weather reports for various zip codes. I have Window 7 and use Firefox and Google. I have The Weather Channel as one of my Bookmarks. The site comes up when requested but the three locations that I had listed are not evident and when I type in the zip codes nothing comes up.

Hi there, I have the same problem with my envy 17ts-j100. I was trying to recover and I had a reset failed massage to I powered it off and went to sleep. The laptop won't boot to bios with symptoms as above.
    Somebody please help out.

  • Why is the Weather Channel app blocked in OSX?

Every attempt I've made this evening to install a The Weather Channel app on this computer has been blocked.
The app is fine on iOS..
    What gives??

Because iOS App's for iDevices are not made to run in OS X.
Also > The Weather Channel App for Windows with Current Conditions, Local Alerts, and Radar, will not work because it is only for Windows desktops.
You can however get the > The Weather Channel Widget for your OS X Desktop and then easily access Weather.com from it.

  • What happened to The Weather Channel HD Feed

Live in Comcast Elgin/Algonquin area. Channel 270 for The Weather Channel HD is broadcasting in SD feed. Anyone else experiencing this issue. All of my other HD channels are working properly.

I'm having the same issue for channel 832 in Atlanta, using a Tivo with a Cablecard.  For two months now TWC has been widescreen SD on the HD channel, even though all the local commercials (e.g. Xfinity business) are in 1080i HD on that channel.  All of the TWC content is SD, the local cable commercials are HD in other words so I know it's an HD channel.
I've called Comcast and had them open a ticket, called TWC to have them check the problem, even PM'd ComcastTeds here and no one has responded with a fix for the problem.
I'm in zip 30106, Austell area, on the Vinings headend I think.
Apologies for the delay in responding. I have asked a few more Atlanta area team members to review this and get eyes on glass.
    Thanks for your continued patience.

  • LOCAL Weather Channel 49

What has happened to my local weather - channel 49?!!! If I wanted to watch the weather channel I turn to 119. Now my local channel has national weather information. My dad lives in southeast PA and said that it took two weeks before his local weather was restored. Please put it back to local weather!

    Where are you located?
If I remember correctly, the PA outage was due to a hardware failure.
May be the same in your area.

  • Weather Channel HD question...no local weather?

So quick question - why is there local weather on the SD version but not the HD version?  That's just strange.  I searched on the board and found a question on this over a year old, and I find it hard that they haven't found a solution in all this time, especially with the new upgrades.  How would you get local weather warnings on the HD feed?

Weather channel uses a specialized computer called IntelliStar at each of the cable company's local head end to overlay graphics when the "Weather on the 8's" comes up. There is currently a HD version out, but it is still being tested in select markets. Here's the wikipedia link if you want to read more about it...
