Web access and my iBook G4

Hello everyone
For the past several weeks I have had problems getting web access through a dialup connection on my iBook. The Mac can dialup and connect to the internet with no problems and has no issues with Mail accessing my IMAP and POP e-mail.
However, none of the three browsers I've tried (Safari, Opera and Firefox, all in their most recent iterations) seem able to access webpages. I can get RSS feed from Apple but webpages don't load. Web access was previously a fairly speedy and tolerable process. Some time ago I installed some plugins for Safari (PithHelmet and AfterSurf) which I did consider to be the offenders, but I removed these when I installed Safari 3. I've checked the ISP settings (Freewire.co.uk) several times, but this doesn't seem to make a difference. I've been using this ISP for about a year with no problems until recently.
The iBook has no problems with web access through a wireless network (ie in a wi-fi cafe). I read on another thread that someone was experiencing vaguely similar difficulties having installed updates for Quicktime. My Mac has these installed. I did try a web search for more info on this, but nothing relevant came up (or at least, I didn't spot it).
So, where to go from here? Apart from getting wireless broadband...
For reference, my iBook is a late 2004 model with an extra 512MB RAM installed and runs 10.4.10. Generally-speaking it's a fine little computer...apart from this.
With all good wishes
Gareth Wells

If you can send and receive mail in dialup, then your iBook builtin modem should be fine. It functions like a simple pipe, where e-mail and web pages are just different kinds of data that it cannot distinguish between. Ethernet and wireless would be two other simple pipes.
Port blocking is also unlikely because firewalls do not distinguish between the kinds of data pipes you might be using. So any problem you have with dialup would also show up on ethernet and wireless.
Elko is speculating that you might have DNS problems with your dialup ISP that may cause URL's to be misinterpreted. POP and IMAP mail access also involves URL's, however, unless you go to the trouble of entering only numeric IP addresses into your Mail preferences.
So, the answer is that we really have no answer. Under the circumstances, you probably should talk to your ISP. Try a limited free dialup account with someone like NetZero (or the equivalent on your side of the Pond) to see if that will solve the problem. Of course, if you are looking for an excuse to move up to broadband....

  • Questions regarding Outlook Web App, Remote Desktop, Remote Web Access and VPN Access

    Hi there,
I want to ask a series of questions regarding Outlook Web App, Remote Desktop, Remote Web Access and VPN access and was hoping whether you could help me. Below are my questions to ask you.
Outlook Web App - What do I need to configure in order to get my Exchange account to work with the OWA app on my iPhone? Is Office 360 required on the server that hosts Outlook Web App in our organisation? When I configure the settings and
connect I get the following message "couldn't connect -  We couldn't connect to the server. Check your information and make sure it's correct." I can connect with other devices using Outlook Web App.
Remote Desktop - What do I need to configure in order to connect to my computer at work using Remote Desktop on my Windows Phone? When I configure the settings and connect I get the following message "Connection error - We couldn't connect
to the remote PC. Make sure the PC is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled. Inquiring minds may find this error code helpful: 0x204" I can connect with other devices using Remote Desktop. There are currently no
RD Server settings in the Remote Desktop app on the Windows Phone and the only way I'm to connect to my PC at work is via Remote Desktop and not to be confused with the one by Microsoft, however the app is on a trial basis and times out every 5 minutes and
can only be used once every hour unless I purchased the app for £2.99 off the App Store but would ideally like to use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app though.
Remote Web Access - What do I need to configure in order to get Remote Web Access on my Windows Phone using a URL? When I log in using a URL I get the following message "There is a problem with this Web page. Please contact the person who manages
the server" I can connect with other devices using Remote Web Access. Also how do you enable the background option for Remote Web Access? I know how to do this in Remote Desktop but not in Remote Web Access. Remote Web Access works on PCs regardless
being onsite and offsite and on my iPhone, the same issue also occurs with my Nokia 5230s regardless of whether I'm using Opera Mobile or Mini or the latest Nokia Browser.
VPN access - How do you configure VPN access on a Windows Phone using VPN? I cannot find the protocols PPTP, L2TP, SSTP and IPsec in order to configure VPN access on the Windows Phone apart from IKEv2.
    Many thanks,
    RocknRollTim

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim

    Hello,

I was easy to manage it on my iPhone (I just add a new "exchange" mail account and ask for a calendar sync only) and it worked very quickly.
But I cannot do it with the iMac, and I don't undersatnd why?
the domain is is used for my iPhone is the following :
    owa.companyname.com
I tried all the solutions I found in this forum but it doesn't work.
Many thanks in advancefor your help.

Does it have to be an applet?
If you want the same behaviour as in the code with traffic lights, change

  • Can GroupWise web access and Mobility service co-exixt?

    Hi,
I have installed a test server with GroupWise 2014 and GMS 2.0.1. Everything seems fine - except from clients (iOS used for test) not being able to attach to the GMS.
The webserver shows web access correctly at /gw/webacc - but on the root I still get OES default front page.
From a different test server with GMS I get access forbidden when trying to access / from a client browser.
    So:
    - Is it supported to have both products on same server?
    If yes:
    . How/what can I change?

GMS is only supported on SLES, so no you should not run GMS on a OES server.

  • After I right-clicked on an unwanted email in Microsoft Web Access and put a filter on it all my emails and the menus disappeared. I can re-access in IE but how do I restore what I have foolishly done in Firefox?

I was working through my emails in Microsoft Web Access when I came across an email from a sender who keeps spamming me. I right-clicked on this unwanted email, saw a filter option and (recklessly) chose it. ALL my emails and the menus disappeared. I can re-access my emails in MWA in IE but how do I restore what I have foolishly messed up in Firefox? When I get to my email page in MWA in Firefox I now see nothing but the movable vertical bar.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Time, Web Access and Music Server

I have been tring to set up a music sever and be able to get my music and videos using web access will this device have that available?

    Yes, no, and maybe:
    1. Yes - Apple designed the Airport Extreme N base station to allow you to do that.
    2. No - Apple does not currently support Time Machine backups to a hard drive cabled to an Airport Extreme N base station, mainly because it doesn't work reliably
    3. Maybe - there are many reports from people who cannot reliably get any kind of file storage to work reliably via a network connection and the Airport Extreme N base station to its external hard drive. And others who seem to have no problems at all.
One would hope that all these problems will be solved straight away with the new Time Machine. But... we won't know until people actually start using them.

  • Problems with Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access and any web browser

My university e-mail goes through Microsoft Office Outlook and I access it through the Web Access.
I have tried with 3 browsers (Chromium, Firefox and Gnome's Web, and with all of them I am getting the same problems.
Basically, once I log in, the css seems to be screwed sometimes (not always). I click in a e-mail to read it, and it does nothing (not always), I write an e-mail, click send, and it gives me a white screen error (not always), and then it is not even saved as draft.
I have this errors like 70% of the time, or more, which means that every time I want just to read an e-mail, I spend 5 minutes reloading the website, singing out, clearing cookies,... until eventually all seems to load correctly.
No idea how I can fix this, or how I can get this to work.
    thank you!

The light version is set by default, and I cannot choose the non-light.
I assume it makes some kind of "webbrower check id", and mine sends whatever linux like id, which the server doesn't recognize, and it screwes me

  • P6 v8 web access and analytics reporting db.

Hello, I have web access working with desktop client P6 v8.
I installed the reporting db and created dev_bifoundation schema with rcu. The first run and incremental load is also working.
    I installed BI Publisher.
I have configured the BI Publisher in P6 administrator.
I have BI weblogic running but I am not seeing any analytic or reporting menus in web access.
Any steps that I should re-check?
    Thanks

To check the value is correct, append "?WSDL" to the URL. In your case the value will be valid if you can access BI Publisher web services as below
    http://server:7001/bifoundation_domain/services/PublicReportService_v11?WSDL
If this is not true you will not see the BI Publisher web services
    Hope this helps
    Sachin

  • Web Access and Web Services

What are the different between p6 WebAccess and Web Services?

I think I realise what the problem is....
It's because the Nokia (and Opera) are *proxy* browsers, meaning that they don't use the router to make the internet calls to pages, but they let another service do the work (presumably Nokia).  The penny dropped after reading another thread where content was restricted by the router, but the mobile phone was able to connect to restricted sites - and I tried that scenario out too!
This also means that this remote proxy service can not see anything on your own LAN - obviously!
This is good for viewing internet sites via your mobile provider as they compress the data, meaning less data returns to you - but I don't see why this is necessary when using Wifi.
I've tried installing other browsers too - and they seem to be the same.
    I'm rather disappointed by this.

  • RD Gateway and RD Web Access - better together or on different servers?

I am evaluating Remote Desktop Services with 2012 R2 and initially I had all the roles on 1 server for testing.  I began thinking it would be a better setup to split the RD Gateway role and the RD Webaccess role into different servers for security purposes.
This way I could expose only the RD Gateway to the internet and the Web Access role would not be exposed.  In all my reading and searching it seems that nearly every article I come upon has both RD Gateway and Web Access installed on the same system.
What is the ideal setup from a security standpoint to have the these two roles separate or does it not mater?  If it does not mater then I will setup 1 server with Gateway and Web Access and I will then have other servers for licensing, broker, session
host, and visualization host once I move this into production.
If these roles are on the same system how do I know if the gateway role is doing anything?  Is the FQDN\rdweb the correct URL to use even when the gateway is implemented?
If they are separate how do I tell the gateway and web access servers to use each other?

    Hi,
As far as I know, it’s fine to have RD Gateway and RD Web Access roles installed on the same server.
“Normally external users would log on to RD Web Access via tcp port 443, click on a RemoteApp and connect to RD Gateway via
tcp 443/udp 3391, RDG connects them to RDCB on tcp 3389 which redirects them to a RDSH server, finally the RDG connects to the RDSH on tcp 3389/udp 3389.”

  • What ports to open between Connection broker and Web access hosts

I have setup a 4 node 2008 R2 RDS farm (1 connection broker, 1 Web access, and 2 session hosts.) They were all built from the same image, but the web access and connection broker will not talk to each other. They are all on the same subnet, and ips are x.x.x.200-203 The Web access server can ping the Sesions hosts, the session hosts can ping each other, web access and the connection broker. But the Web access and Connection broker cant ping each other. I turned off the windows firewall and they can ping, and connect... So whats ports does it need open?
     Thanks!

  • Outlook Web Access, BB Bold 9000 and deleting emails

    Good afternoon:
I have a BB 9000 which is my first BB.  My work uses Outlook Web Access hosted on IP provider's site via their Microsoft Exchange Server.
I have successfully connected the BB to Outlook Web Access , so I get emails and can read and reply.  However, I have two problems and hope someone has a solution.  I have tried elsewhere with no luck.
    1.  I delete emails on the BB, but even though I have selected  to delete both on the "mailbox and handheld," it never does.  I still have the same long list of emails waiting for me when I get to the office.
    2.  When I send an email from the BB, it will NOT attach a signature, even though I have one set up at Outlook Web Access and on the BB itself. It won't even say "sent from my BB."
Has anyone solved these problems already?  I appreciate your advice.  Thanks.

Hi there, try doing the following.
Go into your Settings folder and select Email Settings.  Log in to your BIS account if required, then select your work email account.  Ensure that you have your signature entered there.  If it's blank, that's why you're emails are not including your signature.  You will need to fill that in.  Then click on the setting for Synchronization Options and ensure that the option for Deleted Items is checked.  Once that's done, save the settings, and exit out.  Everything should then be working correctly.
If that doesn't help or you are not certain about a step, let us know exactly where you're having troubles, but I have a feeling that should resolve things for you.
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!

  • Outlook web access calendar and iphone

When i access outlook web access and try and enter a new appointment in the calendar, i get the meeting template even though the box clicked is for appointment. this happens on imac and iphone.
    outlook 2003

There is a possibility that the Outlook 2003 Web Access website may not be compatible with certain browsers.
So far you have checked on
    -Safari Mac
    -Safari iPhone
    -Firefox (PC or Mac?)
    and Internet Explorer
Do you know anyone else with an iPhone that is not able to access their OWA 2003 site and use the calendar correctly as well? or someone who might be using Outlook Web Access 2007?

  • RD Web access SSO - remote desktop doesn't work

    Hi,
This is my first post in here, and I hope you gays can help me out.
I am currently experiencing some issues with RD Web SSO not working as I would like it to work.  I have found countless articles and guides describing how to get it to work, but no guide have yet helped me.
The problem is that when I log in on the web access and open a published application everything works fine I wait 5 sec and the application pups up, but when I try to open "Remote Desktop" then I get a new log in box where I must enter my log in credentials
again (after entering my credentials everything work great.)
The problems I am currently facing is produced in a demo environment configured as follows:
1x DC server (DC01) also the lic server
    2x RDS server (RDS01/02)
    1x RDS Connection broker (RDCM01)   I have created a farm named "farm01.mydomain.com"
1x RDS Web access server (RDWA01)
    1x RDS Gateway (RDSGW01)
(All the Servers are installed with Windows server 2008 (R2) SP1, and have the latest update.)
I am publishing my demo environment on the internet, i have created a domain name for my gateway and my web access and they are both accessible from the web (rdwa.mydomain.com and rdsgw.mydomaim,com). I also have secured everything with an SSL wildcard certificate
( my external and intern domain names are the same so I am using one SSl certificate) that is trusted on the web.
when I  log in on the web access server trough (IE9 or IE8 ) from another network(wan) and I open a published application (calculator), it pop ups in just a few seconds. But when I try to open my Remote desktop I get a login box where I must enter my
username and password one more time.. after that remote desktop opens and everything works great.
My laptop is a Windows 7 professional with RDP 7 and IE 9, and is not member of a domain (just a workstation), I have tested it from multiple workstations and networks(Also win 7 and RDP7) but even there I have the same problem.
Thinks that I have tried tell now:
I have created a kerberos account as mentioned on
    MSDN
I have checked my group permissions as mentioned
    here
And many more blogs and forums
I have tried multiple settings on RDCM, RDWA, RDSGW and RDS server
Right now I am out of ideas, and I hope you gays can help me out..
    thanks in advance,
    Pouyan

    Thnx for you advise,
Did you go into your RemoteApp Deployment settings and change the server name to the farm name "farm01.mydomain.com?"
    Yes
Also in the Session Broker's RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Properties window change the Connection ID to the farm name as well.
actually I couldn't find out what to put on the connection ID so I had left it just default, but after changing it to the farm name it still doesn't work
Did you sign you apps with the cert used on your RDS servers?
yes, I am using a wildcard ssl certificate to sign all the servers/apps with.
    there is
    something that
strikes me, when I log on the web access and click on a published application (that is hosted from the same RDS servers) then I get a information box. when I click on the "details" button I see on the bottom "use the following credentials to connect" and my
domain and username are published there. But when I click on the "Remote desktop" icon and do the same I can't see this information!!
Also I don't think that its an SSL problem, because after log in again it works perfect without any warning.

  • Fast web access

Is it possible to have a fast web access pdf load only a specified number of pages, at least to start with?  Say the top/first ten pages of a larger pdf?
I have a web site which displays a multi page pdf, which is regularly being added to; new pages go to the top on a regular basis. (It is a legal file - when a new piece of correspondence comes in, it is added to the pdf).  The viewer usually only wants to view the several new pages I have added.  But every time the whole document is downloaded, which in this case is a waste of the client's download limits.
I do of course enable fast web access and use Acrobat's Reduce File Size... feature.  They are always black and white files.  All of this helps the download speed.
If the viewer wants to view pages beyond the initial ten, then the request for page 11 could then trigger a request for another 10??
Any feedback on this issue greatly appreciated.

I use this forum on a variety of Win7 32 and 64 bit machines and I have not experienced any slowness in loading at all.  I reckon that it takes less than 1 sec to load any page and at my age, that's faster than a blink of my eye.  My broadband connection is a constant 6.6 Mbps using the MkII curved hub with full home network with many devices attatched (PC's, printers, NAS drives + BT vision, Blu-ray BD etc, etc.).  I use IE8 on all machines and F-Secure Internet security.  All machines also run MSoffice 2010 which is soooo good.
Overall, the new site is fine.
