Web Analysis Save As HTML feature

Hi, I'm wondering if anybody has any experience saving Web Analysis report as HTML. I've managed to do so and it produced an HTML file with a folder containing the supporting files. However, when playing with the control on the exported HTML report, I'm getting a Javascript error. Has anyone seen this? I'm running BI Plus 9.2.0.1 Regards, Gerd

Hi, you don't mention what roles you have assigned to the current users (except Admin), which as you stated isn't a good idea ;-)
You need to add Analyst & Explorer roles for your users.
Check out the full list of roles in Appendix A under the Reporting and Analysis section, in the Security Admin Guide (epm_security.pdf)

Issue about web analysis

The user needs the 'Explorer' role to see the 'Explore' button. The user does not need admin privs for this.
To access Web Analysis Studio directly, go to http://<server-name>:19000/WebAnalysis/WebAnalysis.jsp or http://<server-name>:16000/WebAnalysis/WebAnalysis.jsp.

Freeze Spreadsheet header in Web Analysis Report (HTML format)

Hello,
I want to know if there is any way to freeze the spreadsheet header in Web Analysis. I know it can be done if the report is opened through Web Analysis Studio. However, when the user opens it in HTML format, the header will not be freeze.

I don't believe you can do this. We ran into the same issue last summer and it left our long scrolling dashboards useless as you couldn't see what row you were looking at once the row headers had left the screen. We talked about having some dashboards launch from workspace and others from Web Analysis but this was messy and we wanted them to one-stop shop in Workspace.
The answer for us was to put a Check Box on the right hand side and the users only select the amount of members that fill up their screen. For instance, if we had 20 columns of data (accounts or scenarios) and only 5 were visible at one time, they would only select 5 to view at any given time.
As far as column headers, we haven't had any complaints when those leave the screen.
This was a huge issue for us but luckily we came up with a workaround that seems to have worked for all of our users thus far.

"Year To Date" feature in Web Analysis.

I need to retrieve "YearToDate" data from Essbase into a Web Analysis report such as I select a specified month from a drop down list and it displays the data till the selected month. I couldn't find any topic related to "YTD" in Web Analysis user guide. Does WA support this feature?

Disable Save and Save As in Web Analysis

I have some standard Web Analysis reports that I want to share amongst users. I've created a common folder in Workspace and saved the reports (each is just a simple grid) to the folder.
If my users are provisioned as Viewers they can drill up and down on the grid but not navigate the dimensions (no pivoting).
But, and this is the question, how do I stop Web Analysis from prompting them to save the report if they have drilled down? If the user does click on Save the file is not saved. The same goes for Save As -- the user can type anything he likes -- regardless of location (personal folder or originating folder) or name (same value or a different one) the file is not saved.

Thank you for your answer -- that did the trick.
Bizarrely (I use that word a lot wrt Web Analysis), I cannot see this setting for Viewer provisioned users but I can for users provisioned as Analysts/Report Designers. In my case that's fine as I need to move users to that level of provisioning to allow them to swap dimensions and save the reports to their custom folders when desired.

P.S. Yes, having each user change it manually/separately is a pain but that can be addressed in training.

Cascade Feature in Web analysis

Hi all,
I just wanted to know if there is any way to cascade Web analysis report (11.1.2 version) like the way we do it in excel addin. If no, any alternative suggested?.

I'm not aware that there is but I would ask why do you want to?
Web Analysis is intended for interactive use, if you need to batch output a whole bunch of reports based on a variable POV then I would suggest that Financial Reporting is the better tool (although I completely accept that the formatting may not be nice)

Problem with Web Analysis

Hi,
With the help from some of the experts in this forum, I have finished installing and configuring the following 3 Hyperion 9.3.1 products (in this order) on our Windows 2003 development server.
V11229-01.zip (Hyperion Shared Services)
V11207-01.zip (Hyperion Reporting and Analysis - Services Release)
V11223-01.zip (Hyperion Reporting and Analysis - UI Services Release)
The backend is an Oracle 10g database.
I can successfully log into
(1) Shared Services @ http://localhost:58080/interop as admin/<default password>
(2) Web Analysis @ http://localhost:16000/WebAnalysis/WebAnalysis.jsp with the same userid/password (that I used to log into Shared Services)
(3) Workspace @ http://localhost:45000/workspace/index.jsp with the same userid/password (that I used to log into Shared Services)
This tells me I probably configured these componently correctly.
However, it seems that I cannot do something basic in Web Analysis Studio. For Example, if I try to do
File->New->Document Wizard, most of the menu options under "File" are grayed out.
To be precise, the following options under "File" are grayed out.
New, Open, Edit, Close, Close All, Save, SAve As, SAve as HTML, Properties, IMport, Export, Email As LInk, Print
so, I could not even do File->New.
In fact, the "Edit", "View" and "Display" menu items in the menu bar are grayed out as well.
As you can see, I can do very little in the Web Analysis Studio (I am logged in as admin user, which is the only user now).
Is this a permission issue? or did I fail to install some necessary components?
Also, in this forum, how do I post a screen capture (saved as an image)?

pls. try to give admin user more rights (Provision to "Report Designer" or "BIPlus Administrator" - I dont know exactly which roles are available concerning BI Plus suite).

Export Error in web analysis

Hi All, It is something very strange to me,the default feature export toexcel, of web analysis is giving me error saying 'could not exportto file' .The error message box has got the caption 'Error occurredwhile loading data'.There was no such problem before, but for pastfew days I'm having this issue. Could any body suggest reason for that. Apart from this when Itry the same thing from html viewer it sometimes blinks a windowand disappear, whereas at few moment it opens a blank excelsheet. It would be a great help if someone could suggest on this on thebasis of his/her prior experience. Thanks in advance!!

Not sure if you have solved this. If you apply formating in the data base connection to yourmeasures this will cause the fiollowing error. Remove all formating from the database connection and should beok, in web analysis select coneection then edit

How to Set up the User POV in Web Analysis report

Hi , I am new to create the Hyperion Web Analysis report.
I am trying to set up the user POV. I have followed the document and did the below steps.
1. I went to User preference -> OLAP Server -->checked the BOX "Save Filters only for POV".
2. selected the layout and in options checked the Use user POV.
after that I have opened the report in HTML. nothing got prompted.
When I opened the Financial report, It will prompt user to select the year, period, entity, etc... I need the same way in Web Analysis also.
I have selected Accounts in rows, Entity, Year, Period in columns , rest all i kept in Filters.
Could some one please help me how user can get prompted to select the members from dimensions.

What you have in Webanalysis is POV and PV

Selecting Personal Variables
You can also look at Oracle - Hyperion Labs......: WebAnalysis - how to show the current user's report when he logs in to see how PV can be leveraged.
There is no prompt option in WebAnalysis

Move to other page in Web Analysis

Hi,
I'd like to ask about how to move WA reports to another with original page deleted.
In default(using by service button),original page is remained(it just open desination page..)
User has momory probrem when they open more that 10 pages and complains to delete original pages by themselves.
Anybody have smart idea ?

No, your right, I wish they did.
The HTML client is thin and loads fast in the Workspace.
Unfortunately a lot of the service button features do not work in HTML mode.
Did you know you can jump to Web Analysis Studio and the same report layout will come up?

Web Analysis Alias Issues

We changed some cost center naming conventions within the Essbase cube and moved the old alias to a new alias table called OLD so reports relying on this alias would not be comprimised. The problem is that the reports already developed will not show the new alias description. I tried everything I can think of including removing the old alias directly in Essbase. Any ways around this or do I have to recreate the reports?
With the excel add-in, it is as easy as changing the alias table reference in options, but I can't find a similar function in Web Analysis.

Good news...Bad news...
The good news is that there is a way to manage this in Analyzer/Web Analysis. The bad news is that it is a really poor implementation of this feature. To date, this is the only way I know of to control this.
If you open your report in the Java client (Studio) and switch to Report Designer mode, you will see on the menu bar the different types of subscriptions you can drag onto your report. Things like combo boxes, grids, radio buttons, etc. There is one that is often overlooked, called "Alias Controller". Drag the alias controller onto your report and switch back to Analyze View. You now have a drop down box on your report that allows you to choose which alias table you want to utilize.
Of course you'll have to touch each report to do this.
Another issue is that you now have an Alias controller on each report. That might be a benefit to you if it makes sense for your users to toggle back and forth, however if it doesn't and you don't want the drop down box on your report, there are some options. One options is to hide it behind another object or under a panel. The other option, and I have not tested this extensively, is to add the controller, change the alias table to the one you want, save the report, go back and delete the controller, save the report again, and it should continue to use the new alias table. I don't know if at some point it will revert back to the default alias table, but my basic testing showed it will hold the last table prior to removing the controller from the report. To be safe, you might just want to hide it.

Safari is unable to save in HTML (source page option) offline webarchives

Hello!
Some years ago I made a very difficult and prolonged research: I found over 1500 web pages of medical researches and I stored it on the hard disk, using safari.
I didn't know that its default format file is .webarchive.
Now I have these 1500 .webarchive files and I need to use it on other PCs (also Windows and Linux systems), and they take 800 MB on my pendrive! (webarchive are bigger than imageless html files).
I need to convert them in HTML format.
Only 3 methods exist in the world:
1) from terminal: textutil -convert html FILENAME.webarchive. I drag and drop 10 files a time in the webarchive window after the command string, but it converts about 5-6 files on 10: for the other it gives an error. Some files are impossible to convert using this method.
2) WebArchive folderizer: I could drag and drop all the webarchive files on its small window: it will convert each webarchive file in a folder with the same name of the file. Then I could select all the folders, use FINDER's search function letting it find just HTML files and then move them in a folder and delete all the subfolders.
But the HTML files extracted do not keep the original filename! This is important for me, because I need that each file must have the name of the medical research. I'll have to find (reading a list made in neooffice) the files and read them: over 1500 files, and it will need lots of time make an internal file text search method each time!
3) Webarcher: it converts the files in .war format, not html. It is compatible with Windows, but it keeps the images, like a webarchive, and the space requied is high too.
The method that I could use is this:
Open the file with Safari in OSX, and re-save it in the "source page" (HTML) format... but.... SURPRISE!!!
If I open a web-page with Safari, and I choose "save as...", it let me choose the format (html or webarchive).
If I open a hard disk stored page with Safari, and I choose "save as...", the small menu in which I should choice the format... disappears!!!
This happened years ago... now the OS X is newer... the Safari is newer... but the problem is the same!
How could I solve it?

Since Safari is able to save as HTML file a page if it is opened online (from web), making "Save as...", and it is unable to make so if the webarchive file is on the hard disk...I tried to upload on a web server some .webarchive files.
Then I went online in the web page with the list of all the uploaded .webarchive files... (ex.: http://....filename1.webarchive, etc...)...
My goal was to open ONLINE (not on hard disk) the files and then make "save as...",... but... SURPRISE!!! Safari is UNABLE to open a webarchive file from the web, it asks me where to save the file... it can only save it, it writes that it is an "application"...
I think this happens because .webarchive is not a real web page but a "package"... but my displeasure is this:
Once opened an hard disk's webarchive file, its content is loaded in ram and it appears like a normal web page (html + images + etc...)... so, in this moment, Safari should be able to save it "as...." HTML file too.... discarding images and other objects....
Any advice?

Error Launching Web Analysis Report from the Hyperion Workspace

Hi Everyone
When launching the report as a HTML from the Workspace, the output flashes briefly on screen
The view in the content pane disappears to leave a blank screen.
When I Select View | Refresh. The following result is returned "Web Analysis Information" -1
I have set the report in start up preferences. And Web Analysis preferences set to open as HTML
After logging on again the following error is shown " An attempt to open "Actual vs Budget" Failed
Show Details displays: this.getFocusRoot() is nullor not an object
The reports all display correctly when launched from the Web Analysis studio
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the advise but I have looked into your possible solution and referred to the Web Analysis user guide. I have a number of reports and when selecting the Design for HTML option - a number of objects are valid and should be displayed in the workspace.
After creating reports from scratch - with valid objects - the problem still persists.
Unfortunately, I don't think this provides a solution to the problem.
