Web and embedded sound in PDF
Hi,
Made a posting in the Windows group but no one seems to know anything about the item.
I found the possiblity to embed sound in a pdf very accurate to a project I´m working on (example pages from a teaching material in languages) and embedded the corresponing sound (from a CD that is included with the book) and put a nice poster image to start playing. Those pdf:s was then published on the net. It seems to work fine on every PC I´ve tested but the customer has a Mac and when the pages where opened there was no poster or possibility to listen to the sound file. I´m not sure what OS he is using but is there any problems related to this that anyone here can enlighten me.. ?

First of all, I'm not that familiar as a user of Acrobat Pro. But as its included in my CS4 suite I checked it out by "intuition" and as I understood it the "embed-media" feature is a rather new one. Anyway, how I did it is staight forward from the interface. You insert at media type (in my cas a mp3-file) and optional you can use a "poster" as a trigger/button to play the file. Both the sound file and the image is included in the pdf-file.
Anyway, it would be helpful to know if you can play the sound filde from your Mac. Most helpful would be if anyone knows any limitations connected to my pdf with embedded sound in terms of the average web-user, and especially those running on Macs.
You don't need to download the file, just open the URL http://www.imatri.se/lab/Prosim/pdf/prosims8.pdf. The page displayed is an excert from a language material in swedish but regardless this: Everything is OK if theres an image of an CD, a playbutton and some text in swedish ABOVE the chapter name "1 Ahoj". A click on that image will play the sound.
Please let me know how it looks and again I ask anyone who knows about possible limatations to use this kind of docs.

Embedding WebI and Crystal reports on a web page

I'm new to BO, so please bear with me. I've also posted this to the .NET-side, so sorry if you've seen this post before.
We have a project where we will need to embed WebI and Crystal reports on a web page, i.e. we want the people who access the web page to get the reports (mainly graphs) as embedded content on the web page without any controls and other clutter.
Is this possible and what's the correct way of doing this?

We still face the original problem, though. I.e. with openDocoument we get the report, controls, tab selections, scroll bars etc. What we actually would like is to get just the contents of a report.
Is there any way of doing it? We're not afraid of coding, we have good developers. Or do we need to schedule report creation to some format (e.g. PDF) and then load the PDF to the web page?
Basicaly it's more important to get this working for WebI reports as we can redo almost all reports from Crystal to WebI. Of course we are happy to find a resolution for both cases.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here

How to make a PDF form call Web service and return a static pdf for user to print?

Can anyone help me regarding the feasibility of using PDF forms for my following case?
I would like to create a Dynamic pdf form. User only have the Acrobat reader. they can enter some information. Then have a submit button. when user click the submit button, it can call the web service with data. then Web service returns a Static PDF document based on data and the user can print it out. (and maybe save as separate pdf file)
1. Is that possible to implement? Because I know PDF can call web service, but dont know how it handle when the webservice returns another static PDF document. could it able to handle the responds and open up in another acrobat reader?

Srini: We have developed a Servlet to talk to Webservice. Based on the Webservice response, the Servlet, prepares the Byte stream and sends it to Webbrowser to display as a PDF. The PDF data was submitted to Servlet in XML format.
But if you do not want to use the above approach, then you have to use the Workbench Process.
Submit the PDF data to a Workbench process and the inside process, execute Webservice Service with the data. Once the response is received, prepare the data XML and render a PDF with it.
To do this, you need LiveCycle Server and Reader Extensions server component.

Srini: If you want to use the Servlet, you can Reader extend the PDF with Acrobat.. But if you want to submit the data directly to Webservice, then you need Reader Extensions server component.

Srini: If you use the Servlet approach, then you can re-use the same webservice. But if you want to submit directly to the same webservice, you may need to change it to suit your data XML.

AS3: How to access and control embedded sounds in an external swf?
I rarely use sounds in AS3/Flash. I am using Flash Pro CS6, but I can't seem to figure out how to access, control (play, stop, etc) sounds embedded in an external SWF loaded into the main SWF.
It's easy to control them when embedded on the main swf. However, on an externally loaded SWR, I get all kinds of errors. For this app, I really need to embed them in the external SWF.
I read several solutions, but none seem to work.
I embed the sound an mp3 file called soundSegment1.mp3 using Flash CS6 import tool and then open the actionscript properties panel on flash to select the class name: SoundSegment1. Then I edit the class code and create a file called SoundSegment1.as and it's saved right next to my document class main.as in the same directory. The code of the SoundSegment1 class looks like this:

I think your code may be over my head though. I think you are using an anonymous function which is not something I am familiar with (but I want to learn about if it's useful).
I also don't know where the classS came from. I see that it's a parameter sent along with the event, but I don't really see where that came from.

When you create a link to a web page in numbers "Mavericks" and we export the PDF file, the link is offset by 3 rows. Example: if I put a link on the text (with Cmd-K) in cell A1, I found the link A4. In fact, this feature becomes unusable. How can we solve this problem?

I did as you recommended and installed HTTPWatch and below is the outcome of that program. It is the exact string with the only exception of obfuscated servernames and portnumbers. The last part that begins with "sap_ep_baseurl=" makes me suspicious, is that part really correct? It looks like it's lacking things.

I have a problem with two PDF's when trying to open them through a link on a web page. The two PDF's open fine with Adobe on my own PC and on the server I have copied it to but when they are opened through a link on a web page (pointing to the server where the PDFs open fine) I get an error 'There was an error processing a page. Invalid function resource' The other one just doesn't open at all. Can anyone help with this please?

I have been unable to print from FF to Brother HL-1440. print generate pages w/odd bits of text from the page, and sometimes one image. If I want to print off the web, I have to print PDF. Older versions of FF print fine.
I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
with OpenOffice in the future regarding that. -
Embedded sounds in my PDF are not playing on my iPad 3?
I have installed a PDF on my iPad 3, I can view the document but all embedded sounds bytes do not work. Is this a shortcoming of the Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.3 for iOS?
Adobe Reader on mobile devices is not as advanced as Reader for Windows or Macintosh. It doesn't support multimedia (video or sound).
I haven't found a free reader that does. You'll have to pay for a PDF reader. I suggest PDF Expert ($US9.99). -
HTMLLoader and embeded *.pdf file - get some info

Is there any way to get some info from embeded in HTMLLoader *.pdf file ? I'm writing a small AIR application which need's for example number of a currently viewed pdf page. I'm using Flash Builder (trail version) and Adobe Reader 9 as a pdf browser. Of course I saw http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/quickstart/scripting_pdf.html but I'm using free Adobe Reader - not professional.

Launching an mp3 from a PDF when the sound file is not embedded in the PDF
I'm using InDesign CS5 to create an interactive PDF that will run from a website. I want to be able to launch a sound file from the PDF but I don't want to sound file to be embedded in the PDF. I thought I could create a hyperlink to the file, but when I click on the link in the PDF, the sound file does not run. Any ideas?

Extracting Base64 images embeded inside XML and Convert it into PDF using Biztalk

I'm presently working in a scenario, where we will be getting huge XML Files containing Base64 encoded images. The scenario goes like this :-
1) Client will dump the XML files with embedded Base64 images in a sFTP location.
1) Firstly, we have to extract Base64 encoded images and the metadata from the XML file.
3) Secondly, we need to convert the extracted Base64 encoded image into multiple pdf.
4) Then merge the PDF's into a single file.
5) Then the merge pdf will store to a particular location.
5) It is presume that, the file will be of very big in size ~ 1 GB XML file, so we need to take care of the performance as well.
The sample xml looks like:-

Thanks & RegardsDo you really need to use BizTalk for this requirement? This can be done better with standard .NET code through a Windows service/schedule task/ if you want to poll,
you can implement file watcher class and poll the file as when it arrive to SFTP folder and convert the image in base64 to PDFs.
Another point, I don’t know why you want to “convert the extracted Base64 encoded
image into multiple pdf” (Point-3) and “Then merge the PDF's into a single file”-
point4. You can create a single PDF file (unless I don’t know the reason for creating separate PDF file and merge it again as single PDF file)
Anyway, if you still need to use BizTalk, you have somes options in general:
Option1:
Receive the message using BizTalk receive location using passthrouhg pipeline at receive end
Create a send port with filter for receive portname. In the send port use a custom send pipeline. In the send pipeline use a custom pipeline component which will extract the base64 content from
the XML file, convert the base64 encoded image as PDF and send the PDF file in the send port level.
Option 2 – this options works better if you have some process based on your
<tranheader> record:
Receive the message using BizTalk receive location using a custom pipeline strip off, decode and store the base64
encoded document in a temporary store (file system). So when the message is published in message box db, the message doesn’t contain the heafty encoded64 data part, message will be light weight when its published into message box.
Process the XML message (without bae64 encoded document) with or without orchestration where you will do processing based on your
<tranheader> record.
In send last moment –at send port level, retrieve the stored file from the
temporary store (file system), convert the image to PDF (i,e, hefty processing like creation of PDFs/merging) can be done at the send pipeline level and send the PDF file
to destination.
Following are the guidelines you should keep in mind if you need to achieve this process in BizTalk:
Try to avoid publishing the hefty message to message box.
Conversion of base64 to PDF can be done only using a .NET code. So your options to do this conversion in BizTalk are either in Receive pipeline/send pipeline/ .NET helper in orchestration.
Try not to use Orchestration as much as possible, because of heavy processing and message transmission is already involved.
