Web application/ Web server can't be started

Hi expert,
i've again an issue with my BOFC application. The web server cannot be started so that i can't log in into the web client. I've already started and restarted the Ctbroker and IIS services. What should i do next?
Thanks in advance.
Dany

Start with the obvious.
It's showing as started in the Services panel?
Are you sure it's running on 389?
Try connecting with command line tool like ldapsearch.

I have tried running kdmconfig and am worried about running a sysunconfig as this could unconfigure my server it Solaris 10 on x86!

I had the same problem when I upgraded to snv_114 from snv_98
on SPARC. The important line in /var/dt/Xerrors is this one:
could not open default font 'fixed'
The problem (in my case, anyway) was that the fonts.dir files were
not updated during the install/upgrade process. This fixed it:
    $ su -
    # cd /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts
    # for f in *; do cd $f; mkfontdir; cd -; done

  • Financial Reporting Web Server can't find report server.

    Hi all,
I've installed Financial reporting print server, report server, and scheduler on a separate server from the Web Server installed with Workspace. I can create and run a report with FR Studio and have saved it to the Workspace server.
When I run the report on the Workspace server I get the following error:
Your Financial Reporting Web Server is unable to locate the report server server1.na.ds.monsanto.com:8299. Please contact your administrator.
    (5514)
I have the same configuration on two other servers and things are working fine. How do I tell the Web Server (server1) where the report server is. Why is it looking on the server1 server?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your responses.
I've run the configuration utility on the server where I have installed the report server and compared it to the report server that works. I looks like logically I have things set up correctly.
The "Configure Financial Reporting" asks me where the "Workspace Web Application" is and that is set correctly and is working because I can get into studio and connect to the report server it lets me design and run and save the report. Studio saves the report to the correct workspace server so I know FR knows about the workspace server.
I ran the config utility on the Workspace web server and selected "Configure Web Server". The second screen lists all of the components and "Financial Reporting" is one of the components. This is also set up logically identically to the server pair that is working. All of the components are set up on the web server to point at the web server.
So I still don't understand how to tell workspace to look at the report server. The report server is finding the workspaces web server just fine.
All services are up and running.

  • Problem in starting the web-server after configuring .so on AIX

I am trying to configure a .so file in iplanet fasttrack web server 4.1 on AIX 4.3. I have build the .so file on IBM AIX 4.3. But while starting the web-server it failed to start. It fails when I include the following in obj.conf "Init fn="test-init" config="ConfigFile". While starting web-server I got the following :
server terminated (signal 11): watchdog is restarting it
    failure: server initialization failed
Any pointers on this would be helpful.

I got similar errors in the past when the web server process was running in the background. Sometimes shutting down WAS does not work.
Before you start WAS ensure that no java process is running or better try rebooting.

  • How do you switch between web server snapshot jpg and png modes?

I read in another forum a posting by "NathanK" stating:
"The snapshot feature of the web server can
generate images either as png or jpg. In LabVIEW 8.6 and later, the
default which is generated by the web publishing tool is the png
format. In this mode everything happens in memory so there is no
    snapshot image file generated.
In the jpg mode there is a
temporary file, however it is not always the same file and the file is
deleted after it is uploaded to the client. I would not recommend
    trying to use this programmatically.
    If you need more
control over a snapshot of a front panel (and you are using 8.6), I
would recommend making a custom web service that takes a picture of a
VI's front panel and returns it to the client. Then you would have
    control over the image."
I am currently using the web publishing tool snapshot feature with an EXE program written in LV8.6.  However, each time a browser accesses the html file, the EXE file's memory grows by 72KB (this happens with my custom EXE program and with LabVIEW.exe when running the VI in development mode).  I'm assuming this is the png that is generated each time a snapshot is taken, but the program never de-allocated the memory and the program eventually crashes.  I'm aslo assuming that if I switch to "JPG mode", the web server will generate a temporary file and eventually delete it, elminating the memory leak.  The problem is, I don't know how to change the modes from png (default) to jpg.

I am and have been using the .snap function on many applications since LabVIEW 6.1.  It's very simple, easy to use, does exactly what I want it to do, and is still in the documentation of LabVIEW 8.6, 2009 and 2009 SP1 as being supported.
If I am not mistaken, don't you need to have the LabVIEW runtime engine on the target system to use embedded mode?  I don't want to have to try and keep everybody who wants to see a screenshot of my program to have to have a run-time engine installed.  For one reason, I don't know everybody who wants to monitor our system and they literally can be anywhere in the world if the VPN to our network.  Second, those who I do know would would have me install it for them.  Third, why go "backwards" in capability...everybody would ask me "Why do we have to do this now?..we never had to do it before", and I don't want to use my time/energy at work to explain why NI cannot fix a memory leak that has been identified in at least the last 3 versions of LabVIEW and is still not fixed.
I had been using either LV 6.1 or 7.1 for a good part of 10 years and had very few problems with them (BTW, DAQmx is the greatest thing every put on a computer EVER).  I finally make the transitioin and start using LV 8.6 on a major test platform last year, got to the very end of it and find this out.  <sigh!>
It is funny (maybe not), but my work around feels like I just changed the floormats in my Toyota car to keep it from "crashing".
However, if I am mistaken and you do NOT need to use LV runtime engine for embedded mode, ignore everything I wrote above and please let me know that this is the case and I will look into it.

  • LMS 3.2 on Win 2008 Server - Web Server Issue

    Hi,
I just installed LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 Server Standart X64 and the CiscoWorks Web Server service does not start (Apache service is down but Tomcat up).
All other services seem to be correctly started even if this is quit long.
When I try to manually start the Apache Service with "pdexec Apache", i got :
    ERROR:Get reply from server failed:
ERROR: Daemon Manager startup in progress. Please wait.
When the deamon is up, the second line disapeared but apache is still not responding and of course, the URL is unreachable.
This is a HP Proliant Server with 12Go RAM, is there a maximal size for the paging file ?
I did not modify TMP and TEMP variable, should I have done it before the installation ?
it appears to be some service startup issue on win 2008, is there bug fix or work around ?
    pdshow attached
Thanks for your help, this is quit urgent.
    Cedric.

    >>>  is there a maximal size for the paging file ?
There's indeed a swap file issue with Win 2008. See the first reply in this thread for corrective action: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/675893#675891
Though it may not apply, because you've installed LMS 3.2 ok, since you seem to be aware of it, the TMP/TEMP variables do need to be shortened, as noted in this post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/677383#677383
Is your Win 2008 Server running any Microsoft Service Packs? Because AFAIK Win 2008 SP2 is not yet supported, and no one seems to have any luck on it with LMS 3.2 yet.
After LMS 3.2 is up and running, if you can't log in to the web GUI, you might be running into the CSCtb17186 bug, described in this post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/676256#676256

  • Separate Web Server

Would like to hear about pros/cons of using a separate Web Server (such as
NES) vs the bundled WLS 5.1 seb server in a Solaris environment, to serve
static content. The site we are building will have a significant amount of
    static content.
    Some possible issues might be:
    PROS for separate web server:
    - web server optimized for efficient handling of static content, reduces
    load on WLS
    - allows for possibility of scaling out the web server on a separate box
    from WLS
    - web server can be configured/managed in a more granular way?
    CONS for separate web server:
    - cost of task/context switching when requesting dynamic content from app
server? ( Maybe there is already context switch overhead in a integratedWLS
    configuration - who knows?)
    - problems with configuring web applications (URLs?) - references from JSPs
to static content can't be relative URLs?
    - one-stop solution is easier to manage
I'd like to hear about any experiences with this issue. We need to recommend
    a configuration to a client.

Either way, to scale WL into a cluster, you need to front-end it with
Apache, IIS, or NES (afaik). But that "front end" doesn't have to be
serving static content ... it could just be there to support the clusterand
you could have a separate trunk handling (and specialized for) static
content.FYI, the notion of having to front end WLS with anything will soon go away.
Currently, we have a requirement that proxies be intelligent and have some
level of knowledge about in memory replication. If the primary's
unavailable, they need to know where to send the session for the secondary.
We are changing the product to remove this requirement.
In addition, we're currently working with hardware vendors (such as alteon)
and software solutions (such as resonate) that will obviate the need for any
Web server proxies or using WebLogic server as the proxy. This will provide
you with in memory replication and all of the features of our clustering
while simplifying things greatly and improving performance.

How much static content do you have on your site? Is your site driven by
static content or driven by dynamic content? For example, if most of your
pages, including your home page, are JSPs, but you do have some staticpages
that get linked to (plus the obvious gif/jpg files that are static) thenyou
may want to consider WL as your primary web server and have Apache (etc.)
there just to serve up images and static html. If the bulk of your siteis
static and portions are dynamic, then you might want to have Apache
front-end your site with just specific parts being farmed out to WL.
Either way, to scale WL into a cluster, you need to front-end it with
Apache, IIS, or NES (afaik). But that "front end" doesn't have to be

  • Security Issues of Labview Web Server?

    Hi All,
How secure is the web server for Labview? Is anyone aware of any one
    successfully hacking the systems?
I would assume that it could be possible to gain full control of the
machine running Labview as Labview can read/write data to drives etc.
Just interested as we will be running labview servers on open network
not protected by a firewall etc.
    Any comments?
    Regards
    Wayne Peacock

I have found that a LabVIEW application running the Web Server can be crashed from any machine that has access to it. The Browser Access List denial of an IP address will not prevent this crash.
I have reported the details and National Instruments has confirmed the report and responded with this: "Crashing LabVIEW Through the G Web Server Using TCP VIs"
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/4C3F86E655E5389886256BA00064B22F?OpenDocument. It turns out that this crash will only occur if the web server logging is enabled.
Aborting a server is generally categorized as a Denial of Service (DOS) attack. In this case, it is the LabVIEW application itself that aborts, web server and all. This can be more serious than the usual DOS if the application is perf
orming some other important activity by running VIs. They would unexpectedly abort along with the rest of LabVIEW.
This attack does not enable reading or writing drives, or otherwise controlling the host machine, the vulnerabilities that you asked about. I have even tried to trick the server into getting pages outside of its root directory without success.
If you are running a LabVIEW Web Server, you should certainly disable web server logging. If you could not tolerate an unexpected abort in some LabVIEW VIs that you are running and want to be even safer, I recommend that you do not run them in the same LabVIEW application that is running the LabVIEW Web Server. The principle here is compartmentalization.
On one hand, the small number of deployed servers, relative to other more numerous and attractive targets, has not attracted undesired attention. So you're pretty safe now. On the other hand, LabVIEW is growing and moving to the Internet, and LabVIEW systems control machin
es and chemical processes, not merely data and dollars. Think about the risks as well as the convenience of using the web.

  • Send mail via web server

    Dear Sir,
We have application servers who need to send mail to a pair of web servers, which are behind two 11501. And then the web server will lookup DNS and send the mail to the Internet.
We can ping between application servers and web servers without any problem.
But, we find that, from the application server, we CANNOT send mail to the real ip of the individual web servers. I think the reason is the return IP is changed to vip.
However, with content rules of port 25, from application server, we CAN send mail to the vip (of the two web servers), which CAN then forward the mail to each web server in round robin successfully. The short coming of the setup is the 11501 cannot failover if the smtp deamon of one of the web servers down. That means, smtp (mail service) has no resilience.
Is there any way that we can send mail from the application servers to the real ip of the web servers? In that case, resilience will be retained as UNIX sendmail will check the availability of smtp deamon.
    Thanks.

I did not configure any ACL.
And we have routes, which points all traffic (from outside) to the real IPs to the external VLAN. But it seems only ping is working. Other applications such as like SSH cannot make connection to real IP of the web server successfully.
However, the web server can ssh to servers of external network.
    Any idea? Many thanks!

  • OS X web server folder in Dropbox folder: correct permissions?

    Hello,
I have purchased & installed OS X server. I want to run a local web server test environment, using static HTML and PHP pages.
Everyone on the (W)LAN should be able to access the test site served from this machine.
I do not want/need outside access to the LAN/server.
As a logged-in admin, I need to be able to access the files in the server directory.
The folder I'm serving the site from ("site") is a subfolder of my Dropbox folder: /users/MYACCOUNT/Dropbox/work/site/ . Dropbox (the application / service) should be able to uplad/sync the files in /work/site/, so I can e.g. see and edit them on an iOS device.
I cannot figure out how to set the access permissions correctly. Here's what I tried:
OS X Server (2.2.1) is running.
Server's Websites service is running and configured to use the "site" folder.
Looking at the Account list in OS X Server, I see that there is a user "World Wide Web Server" ("_www"), but it is disabled and doesn't belong to any group.
I changed the owner of "site" to "_www".
I tried changing access privileges to "site" for "Everyone" to Read, then to Write, then to No Access.
Yet all I get when I try to access the site is "403: forbidden".
The web server error log has many "Permission denied: /Users/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable" entries. There is no ".htaccess" files in "/Users/", and I don't understand why the web server would even look there.
    What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to set privileges for the parent folders of "site", too?
And once I have figured out/set correct privileges for the "site" folder - do I have to apply it recursively to all files and subfolders in it?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello Simon,
thank you - you pointed me in the right direction. The problem wasn't strictly Dropbox-related.
Obviously, the web server ("_www") really needs to see a .htaccess file in /Users/ to be happy. And as "_www" doesn't belong to the "Admins" Group, I had to change the permissions for /Users/ to 755 so it could access /Users/.htaccess (see here: http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/PcfgOpenfile ).
After that, I moved the actual website folder to /users/USER/Dropbox/somewhere/else/ . However, all folders and files I want to serve now need the same permission (755).
I don't think this approach is safe. It means that everyone on my local network now can go down that particular folder path and see/execute whatever is there, right?
What's a better approach so that only I and the web server can access these files? Should I add user "_www" to group "staff", so I can switch off access for everyone else?
    Thanks!
