Web-Based File Sharing

Hey All...
I've got a brand new Mac Mini Server I am trying to learn. I am wondering if there is a way to create web based access to my file sharing (specifically the Group folder). I would love to add it to the auto-generated myPage, but webDAV would work too.
Any ideas?
All help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Kevin

We've been using it for a couple of weeks with good success. It can authenticate from your LDAP user database via proxy, or you can add users separately in the Crush environment. The browser interface is much better than Rumpus, It's cheaper, and it's very customizable. You can even set up rules which send out emails when files are uploaded, downloaded, etc. at the global or user level. Very sweet indeed.

  • How do I convert a web based file to a PDF file?

How do I convert a web based file to a PDF file? I know that you "Print to File" but for some reason that is not working for me.  I have Adobe Reader X, shouldn't that be able to create a PDF like this, or is there another program that I need to do this?  Thanks.

    Hi, gfrerichs.
Reader X cannot create a PDF file - it can only view and print existing PDF files.
In order to create a PDF file (for example, print a webpage as a PDF, as you mentioned), you can purchase our CreatePDF service. This service includes a CreatePDF Printer which can print web pages to PDF.
Or you could purchase Acrobat, which can also convert webpages to PDF.

  • Web based file explorer

Hi all, I'm new here, but i hope you guys can help me out
I've had some good experience with DW, but on php. Now i'm
working on a company where I'm forced to use ASP, and I am quite
    enjoying it.
I developed a web based file explorer, with a javascript
frame on the left with the folder tree, and mainwindow on the
right, to ease up the file download.
Basically, all i do with my script, is to send a folder
    string via url like this:
    www.blablabla.com/xpto/files.asp?folderref=./folder1/folder2
the script just grabs a handle on the folder
/xpto/data/folder1/folder2/ and list the files, with links, icons
for every file, last mod date, size, and file type.
My problem... I need to do a back button to do a folder up.
I'm currently using the javascript:history.back(-1) system, but
that's not very reliable since you can browse a different folder in
the tree and clicking it goes back to the last folder it was in.
    other thing
i have a path string using the string passed by url, and
replacing the / by -> and . by home... I'd like to put links in
each of the folder names so it'd go directly to those folders
    ie. Home -> folder1 -> folder2 -> folder3
the link in folder 2 would resolve /xpto/data/folder1/folder2
Any way to strip the string that way?
    One other thing...
The file explorer tree, gets the folder structure from a
    multi-dimesnional array set this way:
    ['Home', 'index.asp?folderref=.',
    ['a', 'index.asp?folderref=.',
    ['b', 'index.asp?folderref=.',
    ['c', 'index.asp?folderref=.'],
This causes me a problem... It's not as dynamic as i wanted
it to be. Is there a way to make a script that generates the folder
structure, but only needs to be run everytime the folder structure
is altered? The file structure is altered very few times. (once a
    month or so)
    Or
Is there a way to generate the file structure everytime the
    script is run?
    Which is more reliable?
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers
    Eddy

If file structure updates so few times per month, I think it
is good idea to generate structure of files and folder through cron
(unix scheduler) or some kind of scheduler for windows
But if your files updated frequently it is better to generate
structure at every request to files.asp

  • Transferring Web-Based Files To iPhone

I want to transfer a web-based plain-text book from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone. How do I do it?

If it is on the web then open Safari and go to the web address of your book.
If you want to store a file, then you can look in the app store for storage apps, but the iphone does not support disk mode and does not store files like an ipod does.

  • Looking for a web based filemanager (or similar).

    Hello,
I have a small server at home hosting all my files and I am looking for a simple setup to be able to access these files from pretty much every where.
Usually I'm using ssh or sftp but the thought of being able to access the files through a web interface is really sounding good. So, I have been searching for a web based file manager and found a few, but none that really made me go wow.
The best so far is probably Ajaxplorer. One thing that I'm looking for though is a PAM authentication feature which Ajaxplorer doesn't have. Are there any web based file managers around that supports this?
Or... maybe I'm looking for the wrong things. Are there other nifty solutions available for accessing files on a remote folder through a web interface?

    zenlord wrote:
If PAM authentication is all you're missing, why don't you setup http_auth?
THX for the suggestion, I was looking for something like this myself and the next version should have LDAP_auth - alrighty then!
    Zl.
http_auth... do you have any nice links on how to use it? I've never heard of it
Ajaxplorer is quite nice after all and setting up repositories isn't all that bad. Looks like I'm sticking to it while I continue my search for another app.

  • File Sharing over web interface?

I am trying to figure out a solution.
We are an advertising agency that we need to transfter files between our studio and clients (which are mostly PC based and cannot connect to conventional ftp server) so we are looking at creating something like dropbox.com.
I don't mind to work over afp, smb, ftp or WebDav, but I need an nice enough interface and it's got to support OS X server's user/ permission ACL.
I know for calendars, Mac OS X server has built an web interface out-of-the-box, but how about file sharing over web?
    Anyone sharing any thoughts?

As I said in my original post, I'm not using Firewire Target Disk mode because it requires a full shutdown of one of the computer (usually my laptop) each time I want to access files from the other computer.
I don't know about you, but usually I've got several things going at the same time on my computers and I'd rather not have to fully shut down the MacBook Pro several times a day.
ps - directing me to a different solution doesn't explain why things aren't working properly in the first place, but thanks anyway

  • How can I protect files from being uploaded to the internet/web-based email or being written to a disc/flash drive?

I work for a company that want to update itself to this century.  I got all our PC upgraded to Windows 7 and networked into a homegroup.  We want to use a web-based appointment scheduler but this means giving our users web access.  The main
concern is our .mdb files.  We have anti-virus/anti-spyware to protect us from infiltration but we want to safeguard against personnel selling our client list; At least make it more difficult, just a precautionary measure.  Do I need additional software
or is it something that I can do in Windows setting?  Or do I need a file encryption service that works in conjunction with Windows Access?  Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance.

There is technology known as RMS which you could set series of policies like only members in the company could access certain documents and if someone copy them and attempt to run them in another PC or outside company, it won't work. Take a look at:

    Dear All,
My firefox (version 23 on win 7) crashed when upload file on our internal web based application. This happen on two PC, even in firefox safe mode the problem still exist. • I can get sound for files ON my laptop but have no sound when I try to watch Hulu  or use other web-based  programs

My MacBook Pro has sound for files housed on my laptop (ITunes for example) but if I try to watch a web-based program like Hulu or Khan Academy there is no sound.  How can I fix this?  I was using wireless headphones a few days ago and it all worked fine but then the sound stopped on both the headphones and the computer.  The video portion works fine, I just don't have any sound.  I threw away the headphones and deleted them from the Bluetooth on the Macbook Pro but still I have no sound.  Any ideas?

  • No web sign in access for Verizon online backup and file sharing - HELP!

I need to sign-in via web browser to my backup files in my Verizon Online Backup and File Sharing service. The Verizon site redesign redirects the old URL with a sign in to a sales page with no way to reach my stored files.
I contacted Verizon support more than a week ago about this asking for a URL with a sign in option to the cloud, was told that it was a problem affecting many customers (obviously eveyone with the online backup and filesharing service!) created by the redesign and that they would have a page created to allow login within 24 hours. I've heard nothing back and still have no access.
I made very clear that this was a HUGE problem for me, as I'm out of the country and rely on file access, and was on deadline for a critical professional project. The support tech I was on live chat with assured me they were working on it and that he would contact me via email as soon as it was resolved. Lots of apologies, etc. but now, a week later ... still no access and no contact. Astonishingly unprofessional.
When I tried again to find a link and/or contact support on Friday I was given no option to file a support ticket, chat with support or do any other kind of follow up. I've tried every search string option possible, including the name of the service with "sign in" appended (the Verizon nomenclature)--site searches a week ago for the service name returned null results. Web searches produce summaries from the old "My Services" page that include "sign in" but those links now redirect to the sales page that tells me how great it is I'll be able to access my files with a web browser with Online Backup and File Sharing. But no option to access the service.
Has anyone figured out a workaround or have a saved URL that still resolves to a Sign In portal?
I grow more desperate by the day. Thanks for any assistance.

I just wasted a lot of time on this same issue -- it turns out I couldn't find my way into the web application because I normally log into a subaccount, and you have to be logged into the primary. I had tried logging into the primary but apparently hadn't tried all possibilities from there.
So I chatted with Verizon support and got the phone number for Online Backup support, left them a message (because their hold music is so repellent I couldn't stand to remain on the line, maybe that's deliberate) and got called back about four hours later (and a second callback the next day, since I hadn't responded to the the voicemail they left on the first callback).
So here are the instructions (until they change the web site again...)
    1. log into the primary account (not a subaccount)
    2. click My Verizon
    3. click My Services on the left
    4. click Broadband Essentials and Extras (right under My Services)
    5. click the Manage button next to My Subscriptions
    6. click the Verizon Online Backup and Sharing xx MB button
The URL that it lands on is this:
    https://vzsharing.verizon.net/application_biz/Secure/Home/Default.aspx

  • Is there a web based (or iDisk) iTunes for allowing viewing of video files?

Is there a web based (or iDisk) iTunes type of program for allowing viewing of video files?
I would love to have this possibility to just drop all myhundreds of "musical ideas" movies in a folder/playlist like iTunes interface and have them available for viewing web based for musical co-writers & collaborators.
    Thanks

    Hi,
iTunes doesn't do Internet broadcast. I suggest you use iMovie to compress your files into and Internet file format. You can then use mobile me or YouTube to show your material over the Internet.
If you want to maintain more control over the material, you may want to set up a computer to become a server. That way you can give access codes only to persons you want to see the material.
I would look into mobile me if I was you. It sounds like you only need a small Internet presence to do what you want to do. And I think MobileMe would give you all the tools you need to distribute your material to those you want to see it. And it would do it at a very low cost.
    Good luck,

  • Web File Sharing

I am attempting for the first time to host web pages locally on my machine before uploading. Following instruction I have turned on web file sharing - this works OK on the cube G4 but not on the powerbook G4. Same operating system on both, one finds localhost the other wont even start web sharing!
    Can you help please?

Hi HEPratt & Welcome to the forums,
Give us a detailed description of your network. Are both of your Macs in the same network? If they are, why start the web-server in both of them?
Now let's brake your issues down:
Firstly on enabling Personal Web Sharing:
I have turned on web file sharing - this works OK on the cube G4 but not on the powerbook G4. Same operating system on both,... the other wont even start web sharing!
Which Mac won't start Personal Web Sharing? What kind of error do you get when you try to enable it from SystemPreferences-->Sharing? Do you also check (enable) Personal Web Sharing from SystemPreferences-->Sharing-->Firewall?
...one finds localhost the other wont even start web sharing!
    That's a bit confusing.
If you mean that you can't see one Mac from the other via Finder's Go-->Network or from a Finder's window sidebar, then this is a VFAQ for Tiger. Use Command-K or from the Finder Go-->Connect to Server and enter the IP of the Mac you want to access.
Also, this involves Personal File Sharing not Personal Web Sharing...
Macs running 9.x, Macs running 10.4.x and SGI workstations running Irix 6.5.x
