Web cam recommendations please

Hi All,
I'd like to get a web cam with microphone for myself (in a low-light house) but also for three others who own pcs. These pc users are elderly with varying degrees of computer savvy. Sigh. This is strictly non-professional. Keeping the grandparents up to date on grand kids development, that sort of thing.
Does anybody have (1) opinions about what I should get for my Mac and (2) what to get these pc users?
Thanks so much.

If you have a Mac with USB 2.0 Ports and running greater than 10.4.9 then any USb camera that is "Vista Certified" or says USB Video Class (UVC) will work without need for extra drivers on the Mac.
If you have only got USB 1.1 ports then get a USB camera that has Mac Drivers and the iUSBCam utility (the page has a link to a camera guide about drivers as well).
The PCs will somewhat depend if they are on Vista or not.

  • Satellite L305D-S5893 Web Cam Help Please?!?!

So I just got this new Satellite L305D-S5893 and it has a web cam but I have NO clue how to use it. I checked the resource guide on how to use it and there's nothing in there.. I looked in my start menu.. under programs and found a "Camera Assistant Software" but that does nothing when I click on it? So can anyone help me and tell me how to use the web cam on this thing? Thanks in advance =D
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you open the camera assist software it usually hides the program on the left side of the screen. Try moving your mouse around the edges of the screen until it pops up.  Or you can look for the utility in the toolbar and click "show toolbar".  Then you can click on "start camera".
To make sure the camera is detected you can look in device manager.  Look for "Imaging devices" and then make sure it shows Chiconey USB 2.0 camera.
    Hope this helps

  • Web hosts recommendations please!

I am looking at the hosts I use and I am wondering if there is a better service available out there.
I currently use Fasthosts who I have to say are absolutely faultless in their service, especially tech support. I can have as many websites under my reseller account as I want... 100's if I choose, but, I can only have 5 databases! If I want to add another database, it going to cost £25 + VAT.
I'd like recommendations of service providers where I can be a reseller, they have excellent tech support, unlimited web sites AND databases.
    TIA.
    Mat

Yes to all your questions.  It has multiple sub-doamins and unlimited databases.  I suggest contact them by phone oe email.  everything is on their website and they operate 24/7 from Scotland so accent might be a problem but try them.  Goos thing is UK laws apply so you are protected.  you can start with the "Starter Pack" for £20 per year and you can switch after 3 months to pro and you get full credit for 9 months of unused subscription (about £15).

  • How to disable USB, Bluetooth, Web Camera in iMac

    Hi
Hi we have 4 Apple iMac 21.5” Quad-Core i5 2.5GHz/4GB/500GB/Radeon HD 6750M 512MB. We have upgraded the OS to Mountain Lion. For company security purpose we want to disable USB, Bluetooth, Web Camera. Please help us understand if this can be done or not ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Soum

    Hello, soum_mohanty.
There's no need to post again in the iSight (or any other) forum.  Hosts will likely delete multiples anyway.  I will just give you my thoughts here.
Use Linc's answer above:  (Regards, Linc)
From Hardening Tips - National Security Agency:
... The best way to disable an integrated iSight camera is to have an Apple-certified technician remove it. ...
Contact your Apple-Authorized Service Provider and discuss your needs.  If anyone can safely disable the cameras in a way that meets your security requirements without damaging your Macs, it will be an AASP.
If your AASP cannot do what you need with your current Macs, my only remaining suggestion is that you consider trading them for machines that have no inbuilt camera.  Mac minis or Mac Pros may meet your needs.

  • Can you please record a video from a web cam with inital setting

Can you please record a video from a web cam that has the
    following specs
    fps: 20
    bitrate: 1000
    Size: 500*400
can we configure that in code or is it a webcam specs?

QuickTime Player Pro can't record the screen.
QuickTime X can record the screen (but only all of it and not just a window). It's a part of Snow Leopard.

  • Recommended Web Cam?

I've just joined Skype and want to get hold of a web cam for my iMac – can anyone recommend a make and model that is Mac compatible?
I'm in the UK and so will probably be shopping at PC World or the net.
    Thanks

    Hello, J
David's recommended QuickCam will surely work with Skype.
Also, sort by "Mac-compatible" (in the choices bar) here: http://shop.skype.com/webcams/ to see the ones Skype recommends (and sells) for use with Macs.
If you have one, a Mac-compatible Firewire connected camcorder will work.  This and other info are available in User Tip: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2018211

  • What web cams are compatible with OS X 10.4.11 for 1.33 GHz 12"PowerPC G4? I want to use it with Skype. Please advise!

I wish to purchase a webcam for use with Skype.  I have a 12" PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11, 1.33 GHz.  What inexpensive webcams are compatible with my laptop?  (Mine is the metal case.  The model number is:  PowerBook 6,4)  Please advise.

Also consider Apple's iSight web cam. It connects via Firewire which is faster than USB2, has a built in microphone & is self focusing. Here's an old review http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1383357,00.asp
    I have one.
You can possible get a used one for $30-$50 on Craig's List or eBay. Be sure & get one with the laptop mount. The first versions only came with a table mount.

  • Please help integrated web cam troubleshooting..

    Hello community,
I recently purchased an idea pad S10 with the 160g hard drive and integrated 1.3mp webcam.  Problem is, the web cam does nothing but take rudimentary pictures.  I was hoping to use it for skype video chats and sending video messages but it appears that I can only operate it much like the simple camera on my cell phone.  ANY help that any one can offer would be greatly appreciated...What am I doing wrong?  Did I miss something?....Thank you so much folks.

Maybe YawCam will help you to operate camera?

  • Digital Video Cameras? Recommendations PLEASE!!!

    Hi,
    I recently purchased a MacBook (2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive, Double-layer SuperDrive).

  • Using web cam with a Mac Pro

Hey All... Was hoping to get some pointers on get a web cam working on a mac pro so that I can use jabber to video chat from it. Any special brands that I would look at? Today at the local computer store looked like everything said yes to Windows but nothing mentioned OSX compatibility... Thanks for any posters

I read recently that these USB video class devices now all work with OS X (though perhaps only with 10.4.10 or later) without the need for any software to make them work in iChat and PhotoBooth and apps like that.
Of those cameras it seemed to me that the Microsoft Xbox Live Vision was both the cheapest and best looking so I bought one.
It works perfectly and quite surprisingly doesn't look too bad either (the 'XBOX 360' logo is almost invisible). I was hoping to get a real iSight and was even prepared to pay the $300 they seem to go for these days but at the time I decided to get one I couldn't find any on Ebay or Amazon. I'd recommend the Xbox camera, it's easily good enough.
Having said that, I don't think I've heard of any apps that enable video chat through Jabber with OS X (or any other OS from memory). Which app were you going to use? Please enlighten me...

       USB-IF xHCI Host Controller
Please help me to solve this issue

Have you used the HP Support Assistant to search for any missing drivers or driver updates? If not, I would downloading it and running it to see if it can find anything. I would also recommend that you check and make sure all of your Windows Updates are installed. Try that and let me know if it helps find the missing drivers for you.

    Hello @drifterboy,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how the webcam is not working on your notebook computer, and I would be happy to be of assistance!
Since you have attempted to remove and re-install the software, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point when the webcam was working. This can be done by following this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8).
If the issue persists, I also suggest performing a backup and recovery of your Operating System. This can be done by following this document on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8). This should help return your system back to factory defaults.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!
