Web Catalog Permissions - Everyone and Presentation Server Administrators

When you copy/paste new objects from one Web Catalog to another the default permissions are granted with Everyone having Read access and Presentation Server Administrators having Full Controll. Is there any setting/configuration to change that would allow this to only grant the Full Access to Presentation Server Administrators and not the Read to Everyone. Would appreciate any input, thanks.

Would appreciate any input, thanks.I don't think this is correct. What I see happening is that when you paste a folder it will get the permissions of the parent folder by default. So your parent folder must have Everyone = Read access and Presentation Server Administrators = Full Controll. So there isn't any default permissions, you just get whatever the parent folder has.

There is no such group as Administrators, that's a group someone created. The default group is Presentation Server Administrators.

In Admin tool you find Administrator.
Its catalog group. Answers->Settings->Manage Presentation Catalog Groups and Users
Search it by entering 'Presen' at Show users and groups and click search

Prevent Editing the Presentation Server Administrators Group

In OBIEE 10.1.3.4, I have created a Catalog Group "Second Tier Administrators" and grant it access to "Settings -> Administration -> Manage Presentation Catalog Groups and Users". How can I prevent the users in the "Second Tier Administrators" group from adding themselves to the "Presentation Server Administrators" group?

I don't see a way of you being able to edit one line without reading the entire file into memory. You could hold the data you are writing to the file in a custom table in SAP, and when an edit is required, delete the old table and recreate a new one based on your custom table.

This is the difference,
OC4j - It is a lite version of Oracle Application Server(OAS). During OBIEE 10.* installation, you can choose either the standard or advanced option. If you choose advanced you are prompted to provide Oracle Application Server connection information. Otherwise, you are defaulted to OC4J. And, this version of OC4J that you get with OBIEE is a pre-packaged “StandAlone” version that only has a little more than the basic functionality that the full-blown Oracle Application Server (OAS) has. It is advisable to have oc4j in lower /dev environments.For higher environments it is recommended to have a robust application server.
BI Presentation Sever - Allows users to visually define queries within the Answers and Dashboard interfaces. It interacts with the Oracle BI server and presents a graphical representation of the query

Project Online - Schedule PDP disappearing for some Project Owners and Project Server Administrators Group

Current Project Online environment is currently setup with Project Server Permissions Mode. All projects follow a customized workflow that enables Schedule PDP on Planning Phase/Stage, among other rules. For some users the workflow and
expected PDPs are working fine, but for other the Schedule PDP just disappears under unknown conditions, even if they are part of the Administrators Group. Has anyone come across these behaviour?

As you said they belongs to Admin group it means they have required permission still double check the permission assigned to the users.
Also ask those users to try to log in form different system then check is issue is occurring.
If this issue is occurring for few users then this may be because of Browser. check the following :
1. Open IE then internet options --> Security --> Trusted Site and add your PWA site. then check
2. If still issue is occurring then click on F12 button then select browser mode as IE 9 then check.

Okay, what do you want to do about caching at BI server and Presentation server.
A nQSXXXX.tmp is a temporary cache file which maintained by the BI Server for an analysis request by a user and is kind of shared data between the OBI Server and the OBI Presentation server. This is refereed as the 'Cursor Cache' which could be managed by going thru Administration> Manage Sessions > Clear Cursor Cache.These .tmp files are it is not related to BI Server cache.
By Default, the BI Server Cache is stored in the and stored as NQSxxxxx.tbl files. [middlware_home]/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIServerComponent/coreapplication_obis1/cache]
Caching occurs by default at the subrequest level, which results in multiple cache entries for some SQL statements. Caching subrequests improves performance and the cache hit ratio, especially for queries that combine real-time and historical data.

Administrator unable to change catalog permissions

Steps:
1. Log in as administrator and anyone who has administrator privileges
2. Click on Catalog > click on any folder to change permissions
3. The permissions link is greyed out\

Here are my observations:
1. Login to obiee presentation services and append the URL with Managegroups ( http://IPaddress:9704/analytics/saw.dll?Managegroups) - Done
2. Select the "Presentation Server Administrators" group - Done
3. Edit -> search user and add it to this group. - Done
4. Login with the user added and check if he can "Administrator --> mange catalog and permission". Done
Still if its not working just delete users from catalog physical folder(users withs users.atr) and restart bi presentation services then test it out
Daone all the above, however when i delete the Users folder with users.atr and restart the presentation services, it doesn't come up

Installing BI Server & Presentation Server on 2 different Linux Boxes-OBIEE

Hi,
I am trying to install OBI EE on Red Hat Linux Boxes. I have to install BI Server on one Linux box and Presentation Server on another Linux box. Both are in the same network. I will be installing Apache web server on the machine where Presentation server resides. Please let me know how will Presentation server talk to BI server since both are going to be in different machines.
I know that I have to point the DSN in the Instanceconfig.INI file to the linux box where BI server resides. I know that I have to modify analytics.war file.
I would really appreciate if anyone can give me some direction in regards to installations.

All you have to do is to modify the web.xml file in your Analytics.war file to tell it the BI Server name and port and it will work.

Prd and DR server installation

Dear All,
I have installed OBIEE 10.1.3.4 in Prodsystem1(oc4j4 and BI server and Presentation server)
BI installation Path-->Shared network path e.g "SharedOracleBI"
Data Installation Path-->Shared network path e.g "SharedOracleBIData"
When Prodsystem1 failed we should start automatically DRsystem2.
How will do this?
DRsystem2 also need to install oc4j and BI server and Presentation server?
If yes What BI server path can give?
What BI Data path can i give?
How oc4j work ? Is it 9704 port?
Database available in single ip for Prodsystem1 and DRsystem1.
Could you please explain me.

I have 2 production server like below
Prod1: Installation path OracleBI and OracleBIData (both folder mounted in SAN)
DR1: Installation path OracleBI and OracleBIData (both folder mountes in SAN, what we are pointed Prod1)
My question is
1. We need to install 2 machines seperatly (Prod1 and DR1) or ?
2. If yes How will give installation path while OBIEE istallal DR1 machine.
Note: My aim is when Prod1 goes down then start automatically DR1 machine,but .rpd and catalog should be one place.

Controlling web catalog promotions (11g)

Hi, we're thinking about setting up our web catalog with three different types of high level folders:
1. Standard personal folders for each user
2. "Sandbox" shared folders that can be shared by a group
3. Enterprise approved "gold standard" folders
Everything in the "gold standard" folder will be controlled centrally, so I have no issues with that. However, for the business area "sandboxes" - I do NOT want each and every user in that group to have access to publish to the sandbox area. I want that controlled by 1 or 2 power users.
The issue I'm hitting is I'm not sure how a power user could go into another users folder, grab a analysis, and publish it into the sandbox area. Even if the user grants access to the power user, it appears that no person can go into another person's personal folder.
Is the only solution for this is to give the catalog manager tool to the power users?

Hi,
You can go to the Web catalog folder path and take the users report file and its .atr file and then paste them in the desired location (If the user is having the access to view the report.)

Not able to start the Presentation services and BI Server

Hi,
My prsentation services has gone down, after the changed the default rpd and oped another rpd which was password lock. De-Commented the AUTHENTICATION_TYPE = BYPASS_NQS and restarted the BI Server and stopped it again, then logged into the rpd without any password and then changed the password and close the BI Admin tool and started the BI Server.
But now the presentation server is not starting."Could not start the BI Presentation Services on the Local Computer. For more information, review system event log....."
The instanceconfig.xml has the right path "<CatalogPath>C:/OracleBIData/web/catalog/xxx</CatalogPath>
the catalog is the same as what is mentioned in the NSQConfig.ini.
Never this this kind of error before.
Can somebody please help.

Sorry i had resolved it. Actually i had done some cryptotools for adding the Impersonator, and when i changed the RPD it gave me error bcos of that, i removed the entries from
credentialstore.xml and also from instanceconfig.xml and the Presentation Services where up.

Deployment of Flex app to web and app server

I'm working on putting a Flex front-end on an existing J2EE
app which gets deployed as an ear file. The architecture consists
of web server, app server and database server. Is the following
approach to deployment possible / recommended?
My Flex app will be deployed to the web server. The J2EE ear
file will be deployed to the app server (Weblogic). BlazeDS will be
bundled within the ear file as a war file. Remote Objects will be
configured in my BlazeDS configuration files to enable me to access
the code in my J2EE app. In the compiler options of my Flex app,
I'll be setting the server root folder and server root URL to point
to the BlazeDS war file on my app server.
At present I'm at the stage where I can run my Flex app
directly from Flex builder on my development PC and it's able to
connect tto the J2EE app, which is running on the app server
(Weblogic) also on my development PC. I can't find documentation
explaining how to extend this to work on a multi-tier architecture.
