Hello,
Is there any oracle site where web center is installed and developers could get a preview of web center features and possible develop a few portlets?
If any one come across any such site or URL, kindly let me know.

How To associate a default Template with an asset in web center sites 11g

In previous versions we could associate a template with an asset, in the edit mode of the asset and that template would be used to render that asset when previewed.
How can we do that in Web center Sites 11 g so that we don't have to select it again and again.

You should still have that option, in the Contributor UI when you edit or inspect an asset beneath the asset name is a drop-down box to select the default Template for this asset.

Issue in upgrading from Fatwire 7.6 to web center sites 1.1.1.6

Patch upgrade from Fatwire 7.6 to Web Center sites 1.1.1.6 is failing while importing catalog elements. The database ping and csLogin test is successfully completed at 75 % of the installation. After that below mentioned exception is coming in logs which is causing installation failure. Please provide your valuable pointers to troubleshoot this issue.
Access to CATALOGDIRECTORY and ELEMENTDIRECTORY is verified. Both paths are correct with full access.

May be it is expecting wlserver_10.3 directory.
Can you try giving a link to one directory above wlserver_10.3 OR the complete path to wlserver_10.3 directory.
One of this should make the upgrade successful.

System tools tabs do not appear in admin console of web center sites.
I have set jdk path under serverstart menu of weblogic ,included classpath and preclasspath in setDomainEnv.cmd and have also inculded java_options under startweblogic.cmd ,still system tools tab do no appear.
how to resolve the issue.Please help.

Please mention below configuration in your setDomainEnv.bat file
set CLASSPATH=<Path to the sites installation directory>;%CLASSPATH%
set PRE_CLASSPATH=C:\bea\domains\CS\WEB-INF\lib\commons-lang-2.4.jar;%PRE_CLASSPATH%
please check the paths as per your installation directories.
restart server then check, it should come.

To decide save site as a template, web template or site definition

hi,
I have to create a generic site template which has few tabs in the home page and on click of these links/tabs
in this site template it will navigate to the sub sites created under that[this generic site template shud contain 3 sub sites -
[1 blog, 1 search center sub site, meeting workspace as tabs in the site template’s top navigation] and
a) 2 Doc Libs
b) 2 splists by default present in this site template [ most prob. its a team site template]
What should be the correct approach for creating this site template:
I have thought of implementing using:
a) save site as a template and upload this wsp into the solution gallery. and based on this site template
i will create new subsites. one problem i will be facing is that, mine is a publishing site template not team site template.
b) create a web template having the above subsites and doc libs and splists
c) last option is to create a site definition [ complex ]
which one should i choose, assuming that, there would be future changes from customer side in the
site template.like, adding a new splist, sp doclic or a new custom web part.
in that case, adding a new addtion to the already existing site template will not affect/reflect the already running
sites' content.
only those new sites which is created based on the updated site template would be having the new additions
implemented.

From your description, the most concern you might have is that customers will have the requirements to add other components into their sites and created with them afterwards.
Since SharePoint 2010, it is recommended to take use of something like “a la carte” pattern to manage SharePoint sites. If there are needs to add sites, lists or other components,
we can make them as solution(.wsp) and deploy to our sites. By doing this, we will be more flexible and easier to manage the features and structure of sites.
So you can just create a site template with simple structure and deploy the solutions you want after sites created.

Oracle Web Center Suite and Oracle Portal

1) Oracle Portal is the Portal product that was deployed together with the application server before weblogic server. It is still used a lot for corporate intra and extranets. It is mosly used for intranets and extranets. When you bought the licence for the application server you automaticly had the licence for Oracle Portal. That's why it is so popular.
Oracle portal is not realy standard based. You mostly will create portlets with PL/SQL or PDK and not realy use the JSR168 standard.
No with Oracle Portal 11g you can consume JSR168 portlets using WSRP.
2) Oracle WebCenter suite is the next strategical choose of oracle in portal software. Webcenter is an enterprise 2.0 portal environment while oracle portal is more web 1.5 and has limited web 2.0 stuff. Oracle Portal comes with a complete UI for the user to use to create websites and groups but webcenter is more a framework to incoorporate enterprise 2.0 features into your own fusion web application. Webcenter suite comes with Webcenter spaces. THis is a complete UI to create collaborative websites.
Webcenter framework is a powerfull framework to create complete enterprise 2.0 sites.
3) The difference... Oracle Portal is an old product and will not be developt anymore. I've heard portal 11g will be the last version meaning support will stop at 2014. Webcenter is a new product to create state of the art enterprise 2.0 websites.
Oracle portals is not build on standard and is not realy standardbased meaning is you develop portlets for portal you will not be able to use them in other portals.
Webcenter on the other hand is completly standard based. It is JSR168 compliant and in the near future it will also support JSR286.
Oracle portal is PL/SQL based while webcenter is completly java based, based upon the ADF framework from oracle.
Because WebCenter is based upon the ADF framework you can use the complete ADF framework for your application. For example consuming webservices are very easy in webcenter. If you are using a service oriented architecture you will have lots and lots of work to integrate it with portal. With webcenter this is peace of cake.

It will be great, If you can share it.
Documentation states that, It has features like below:
New capabilities to operate on multiple assets efficiently, including bulk deletion, approval, and bookmarking. These operations are conveniently available from search results screens. Operations can be executed by selecting multiple assets and pressing a single button.
But I can not perform bulk delete asset.
Documentation also states that, It has features like Drag And Drop:
My understanding from the documentation is an asset's attributes are dragged and dropped into advanced UI. Pls correct me, If I am wrong.
Is there any demo available for drag and drop feature of oracle 11g webcenter?
Documentation also states that, It has features like customizable dash board:
New customizable dashboard: A customizable dashboard is now provided out-of-the-box. Widgets to manage assignments, bookmarks, and checkouts are included. Widgets can be rearranged on the dashboard using simple drag-and-drop, and custom widgets can be added to satisfy unique business needs.
Pls let me know, where the dashboard is available and how to implement the above mentioned features.

can I use it without J developer,if yes then how I am I going to use it ??

When you install WebCenter Suite you install next components:
- WC_Spaces: That includes the pre-built WebCenter Portal : Spaces application. You can use this application to build secured spaces / portals and start developing in it. The question is... you need WebCenter Spaces or Portal??.
- WC_Collaboration: For discussions and announcements.
- WC_Utilities: Analytics and more utilities.
- WC_Portelts: For portlets WSRP 2.0.
If you need to work with a Custom Portal Application you need to extend the domain for WebCenter Portal:
WC_CustomPortal: For a WebCenter Custom Portal Application.
If you already installed WebCenter Suite access to http://[host]:[WC_SpacesPort]/webcenter to access WebCenter Spaces.
There are a lot of information / tutorials in the official and unoffical web sites.
In addition, if you want Content Management you should install WebCenter Content.

500 Internal Server Error while deploying Web Center App

We have created a simple Web Center application in JDeveloper (10.1.3.2.0). Its runs fine when deployed on Stand Alone OC4J. We tried to deploy the same target .EAR (After following the steps mentioned in Oracle Web Center Documentation) on Oracle Web Center Suite 10.1.3.2.0 (Pre-Configured OC4J_WebCenter ). We ran the Pre Deployment to transform the Generic .EAR to Target .EAR with MDS path.
We got the following exception when testing index page (i.e. index.jspx)

Installation error in Oracle Web Center 11.1.1.3.0

Hi,
I have downloaded the ofm_wc_generic_11.1.1.3.0 from OTN.
I installed the WLServer successfully. While trying to install Oracle Web Center 11.1.1.3.0 I am getting the below error.
Do I need to install Web Center Suite 11.1.1.2.0?
Is there any sequence to install?
Please help me.

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to preview documents from SharePoint 2010 in search results in SharePoint 2013.
Per my knowledge, the Office Web Apps is configured to work with SharePoint 2013, so it will not work with documents in SharePoint 2010.
I recommend to configure Office Web Apps to work with SharePoint 2010
and make sure that documents can be previewed in SharePoint 2010 using Office Web Apps to see if the documents can be previewed in SharePoint 2013 search result.
