Web Clip Icon for iphone

The instructions below are posted on the developer apple site. I have tried to follow these but have been unable to make this happen. Could someone flush this out a bit more for me. I have made an image called apple-touch-icon.png and saved it at every directory level and placed
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png"/>
in the index and welcome page inthe <head> section.
Thanks!
Create a WebClip Bookmark Icon
iPhone and iPod touch allow a user to save a WebClip bookmark to your site on their Home Screen.
To specify a bookmark icon for all pages of a web site, place a PNG image named "apple-touch-icon.png" at the root directory of your web server - similar to the "favicon.ico" for site icons.
To override the site bookmark icon on a specific web page, insert a <link> element similar to <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/customIcon.png"/> within the <head> element of the page.
The bookmark icon dimensions should be 57x57 pixels. If the icon is a different size it will be scaled and cropped to fit.
Safari will automatically composite the icon with the standard "glassy" overlay so it looks like a built-in iPhone or iPod application.

I used Textedit (because I have iWeb06) to add my code so the procedure may be a little different in iWeb08 but.... the code needs to go in the header of your file ie somewhere between <head> and </head>, preferably on it's own line so it doesn't mess with any other code on the page. The file then needs to be saved using its original name ( mebbe make a renamed backup of it first in case of disaster! )
Once that is done sync your iDisk to upload this file to the web server. You can tell if this part is working by viewing the page (the online page) in Safari, right clicking on it and selecting 'View Source', this will show you if the page really does contain your new code, if not then the page you are editing is either not the correct one or there is a problem syncing to the dotMac server.
The bit that stumped me for a while was choosing the correct file to edit. Make sure your index or home_page.html file is in iDisk>Web>Sites and not the one on iDisk>Sites.
Good luck

  • Custom web clip icons for iphone

    Friends-
Can anyone help me? I'm trying to create custom icons for my favorite websites on my iphone 3GS. I know it could be done I just don't know how to do it.
    Thanks.

You can't do it directly on your phone, they have to be created on the web site in PNG image file format and then saved to the web site's root directory. Unless the web site has created a custom icon, in most cases, the icon that appears on the home screen is a picture of the website it links to.

Check with your carrier or telephone service provider.  Not all carriers provide this service.

  • Favicon and Webclip Icon for iPhone

Is there anyway to incorporate a favicon and a webclip icon (for iPhones) using iWeb '08?
I host to my .Mac account, domain from GoDaddy (CNAME) to my .Mac website.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!

You add the favicon code in the HEAD of the webpage.
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/YourdotMacID/apple-touch-icon.png" />
You'll have to open the page with a HTML editor of your choice.
    You can use TextEdit.

  • Iphone Config Utility and web clip icons

    Hi
I am trying to import a .png file into ICU to use as a web clip. I have created one in paint shop pro and one in Photoshop both have a 57 * 57 pixel size. Whenever I select either file I get the following error
"value does not fall within the expected range"
I am running ICU on XP.
Can anyone offer some advice or tips

Real sorry guys, even though it's been 2 years since original post, but I've fixed it.
I am using iPCU 3.6.2.300 and the problem was not on the iPCU, but, you can fix your image on Photoshop like below:
iPad (Retina display) 152x152px; Resolution: 72 px/inch; Save as Bitmap (.bmp) with OS/2 file format.
and for other devices, just follow the guidelines for size (in pixels) at the iOS Developer Library here, with resolution either 72px/inch or 96px/inch. Just remember to save as Bitmap with OS/2 file format, not Windows.
    Regards,
    Phillmont.

  • Prevent Web Clip Icons

I am using Apple Configurator to push out web clips to the iPad that have custom icons that I have created. However as soon as you actually tap on the web link and go to the site, the web clicp icon is replaced by the one provided by the website, not the one provided by me.
Is there any way to ensure that the icons are only the ones that I push via configuration profile?

    Hi Kevin,
Inicio is the first page you see in my website, but it is not index.html. In fact "Inicio" is acting like my start page, but I have many different websites made with iWeb.
I have my domain www.carolaclavo.com redirected to .Mac so it's easy for users to get there and avoid typing all this: web.mac.com/carolaclavo/iWeb/carolaclavo/Inicio.html
Now I'm trying to get it working using the original address, no redirections, but they say it's not working to add the icon.
I have many webs made on iWeb in my .Mac space, and no other hosting service. If I could access web.mac.com/carolaclavo/iWeb/carolaclavo and drop there the icon file, it would work, but is not accesible afaik. I can't edit index.htm which I guess is stored in the same directory, but I'm not sure as the files I see in the iDisk look like my web, but the address is not web.mac.com… but idisk.mac.com… ?
This looks very hard to handle, they should add a new feature in iWeb. Looks impossible to customize the icon for the iPhone when it comes to .Mac pages, and that's stupid IMHO.

  • Web Clip Icons v App Icons

One thing that apple has nailed is the way the applications look on the iPhone...
However, web clips look awful, especially now that my iphone has loads of wonderful apps on it..
I know you can use http://www.wepclip.us and this does work very well but it has to connect to this site before loading the site you are trying to navigate too! (very frustrating when in a low reception area)
So, anyone know how you can change these icons??
I'm fed up of them looking so ugly!!
    Simon

Sometimes when you create a web clip you get a cool icon. That is because the website developer included this tag <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="icon.png"/> in the header. Mostly you get a smudgy little screen shot of the page you were on.
However, you can manipulate the page to get the screen shot you want. Enlarge a section of the page then tap ‘Add to Home Screen’. You will see a little tiny preview of what the icon will look like. If it isn’t what you want cancel the action and play around with the page until you get something you like. Have fun.

  • I am creating application icons for iphone

I am creating icons for an iphone/ipad application developer and the application icons are loaded into the application the tranparent areas are turning black. Is there a way to fix this?

Don't attempt to use transparent application icons.
    Application Icons
Ensure that your icon is eligible for the visual enhancements iOS provides. You should provide an image that:
Has 90° corners (it’s important to avoid cropping the corners of your icon—iOS does that for you when it applies the corner-rounding mask)
Does not include a drop shadow
Does not have any shine or gloss (unless you’ve chosen to prevent the addition of the reflective shine)
    Does not use alpha transparency

  • Lost Phone Icon for iPhone 4

I lost my phone icon for my iPhone 4. I tried a reset - holding the sleep button and bottom button. It rebooted, but the icon is still gone. Everything else is fine.  What do I need to do to get the phone icon back?

Did you possibly accidentally move the phone icon into one of your folders?  Can you still dial out using one of your contacts?  Check these things before restoring a backup from your itunes (assuming you made backups).

  • Customizable themes and icons for iPhone

Hello everyone ust got the iphone and have been trying to find a way through apple to get custom themes and icons for my phone to personalize it. I see the whole jailbreak thing and see all the apps that you can install but I would prefer to go throuhg Apple one becasue I dont want to mess with my phone and ruin it and two I have no problem paying for it just give me the ability to do it right why is there nothing out there already. There is so many out there as third party apps and Apple hasnt developed anything I have emailed the suggestion to Apple through the link on the website and heard nothing back. Am I not looking in the right places or is there nothing out there yet besides going the jailbreak, ibrickr route please help

here are full directions on how to do it.....
    1. Go to http://webclip.us on your computer (not on your phone) and click on "create now".
    2. In icon label, type what you want to call your icon.
    3. In URL, type either the URL of the website you want to link to, or for a phone number link, type http://##########.tel.QLNK.net (where ########## is the 10 digit phone number you want).
    4. In icon file, click the arrow to browse to the photo or image you want the icon to display.
    5. Enter the security code shown, then click "upload now". You will get a "webclip number".
    6. Now on your iPhone in Safari, go to http://webclip.us and enter the webclip number your computer just generated, and tap Go.
    7. Use the plus sign to add the icon to your home screen, change the name to whatever you want, and you will have a cool little icon with the photo you uploaded!

  • Dynamic icons for iphone

Can someone point me in the right direction for how to dynamically change the icon of an iphone app? For example, how does the mail app add a red number on it representing the number of unread emails? I basically would like to have two states on my application and a different icon for each state.

    mahongue wrote:

You can't. I think the only exception is Apple's calendar app.
For example, how does the mail app add a red number on it representing the number of unread emails?
It uses an application badge (an overlay to the icon). See UIApplication.applicationIconBadgeNumber in the docs.

  • Move icons for iPhone 4 apps from App Store folder to Home Screen

My iPhone 4 has all of my downloaded apps in the App Store folder.  I want to show each of these apps icons separately on my iPhone Home Screen so I can move them to into folders.  How can I add the individual icons for each of these apps to my Home Screen?

That doesn't work, because the individual apps are listed as "purchased" in the App Store folder itself -- the icons are not themselves on the Home Screen.

  • Custom Icon for iPhone Home Screen

Does anyone know if there's a way to upload an icon to the site so that people can add it to their iPhone home screens? Thanks!

    Hi!
If you use Business Catalyst you can use the file upload to put the file apple-touch-icon.png to the root. iPhone will then recognize this file when you create a shortcut.
You can also access your Muse files via FTP (I'm on a Mac and use Cyberduck), and upload the file to the root there.
Tip: Create your icon in 300x300 pixels with 327 dpi. This will make the icon look really sharp and great on Retina displays.

  • Red badge on settings icon for iPhone 5

Got the iPhone 5 delivered today and after setting everything up, I noticed the settings icon had a red badge. The red badge usually indicates there's a new iOS update available? But being that my new iPhone is already updated to iOS 6.0.2 is there any way to remove the icon?

Now, you have to restore as new without the backup using computer iTunes.
After that, sync your iTunes' content manually.

  • Internet Explorer web browser app for iphone 4?

Is there an IE web browser app or one that mimics EI?

You're not going to get something more like a desktop browser (if that's what you mean by regular) on any device with a 3.5 inch screen.
    Safari seems limited.
In what way? Safari is almost universally regarded as being the best mobile browser on any device. It's support for web standards, and its rendering engine are far better than what you are used to in IE.
Exactly what do you feel is missing?
Are you referring to Safari's HTML rendering engine (it's ability to display websites accurately), or features of the browser itself?
Well I guess I was expecting too much for a phone browser. But thanks for the info on Safari.
