Web Design using Flash

G'day,
I just bought the Adobe premium addition, I can use Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop and Dreamweaver very well BUT Flash has always been the one that has confused the crap outta me!
I am wondering if I can design my front page/banner for my website in Photoshop and then import into Flash and add drop down menus etc? If so, would I then need to put it all into dreamweaver? I have had alook at some tutorials with little success, and was also wondering, does the code go into Flash or into Dreamweaver??

What you can do is design the page/banner in Photoshop or in Flash depending on what you intend for the design. Designing in Flash is not that difficult though it does not have all of the features that Photoshop has. You could then let Flash publish the html page. If you need to edit the html page further, you could do it in Dreamweaver (or any ASCII text editor).
The code to make youe menu work would be in Flash. The code for the web page would be in the html page (Dreamweaver is somewhat irrelevant, it's just a tool to help code a web page).

How does one control the appearance of a web browser using Flash Builder?

Using Flash Builder I wish to record the existing appearance of a web browser (e.g. position, size, menubar, caption bar, status bar) and change it to full screen, no caption, no menubar, no status bar, etc. In this mode I will load a full screen graphic and other content in the browser and I want the user to not realize that everything is being displayed in a browser. Later I need to return it to the initial appearance using the recorded settings. Any guidance is appreciated.

It appears that one must launch a new a new browser using JavaScript from Flash Builder whereby many, but not all of the properties I detailed, can be set. Many browsers disable or can be configured to disable JavaScript from setting some of the properties. Launching a new window in the 1st place is disabled in many browsers.

I want to learn to design using Flash

I have visited many Flash template sites and want to learn
how to create sites like I see there. I have purchased many books
and even some tutorial CDs and DVDs. However, they don't teach how
to do really creative sites. They teach simple boring basics. How
do I learn to make really cool sites that look beyond complex? Are
there books or visual tutorials that are available?

There's a general rule in art and design: You have to learn
the rules before you can break them.
In other words, you need to learn the
boring basics or else you will never be able to design cool,
creative sites. Simple as that. It's like saying you want to learn
how to compose a symphony but don't want to be bothered learning
how to read music or learn music theory.
With Flash, the great thing is, the more of the boring basics
you learn, the more that you'll be tempted to experiment and play
around, and the creativity in you will be unleashed. At the same
time just look at other sites that you like. The more you learn
about Flash, the more you'll be able to figure out how it's done.
You'll then be able to understand the lessons in advanced Flash
training books and tutorials, which will enhance your
skills.

Web designing using mac....

Evening all,
having great difficulty here.. just paid a website developer to edit my site and add a pop up image viewer- she used php....the new site works great on a PC, but on my new Mac which im currently getting to grips with- Nothing at all!! No php, no new images and no evidence of what shes done- anybody know why this is?
If anybody has any ideas then please reply.

Delivering Flash movie to web designer

I just sent our web designer a flash video to place on a website. I included in one folder the .swf, the .flv and the player skin. Plus I also added the .fla file, just in case they needed it.
They tell me yes, they can play the movie, but they can't place it on a web page.
Have I missed some element they need? I've attached the .swf file which is the only one allowed to upload.

IF they (or you) publish an html file using the fla (via the Publish Settings options), they can utilize the code from that file to plant the swf in the web page. There may also be a need to include a js file, which Flash will also generate when you publish the html.

Did a test. Copy and pasted a page of my graphics into a new indd file and into a new master. New file works fine for exporting jpeg as well as pdf.
Must just be something wrong with the original. gremlins. No time to wonder why.

Mac or pc for dreamweaver web design?

So just wondering anyone better to do this would think pc
since most users visiting the site are pc based? Im using at work a
mac for designing a new website using cs3, I test the files on a
outdated pc to see how the files work and look....... I cant upload
anything since when its done i have to pass the files to the owner
to upload the pages since im not allowed access to it.....

How to create web pages in Flash?

Hi,
I am trying to create a personal portfolio website using Flash CS4.
Understand that there are a number of ways to create web pages using Flash.
One way is to create separate swf files for the web pages and load them when the web page is requested.
Another way is to put the pages in separate frames in the same swf file or to use scenes and use gotoAndPlay().
Another possible way is to create separate movie clips for the web pages.
Wonder if anybody can advice the recommended way of creating the web pages.

Best book for Web Developer learning flash

I've gotten far on my own just using online tutorials and dinking around in Flash on my own but my boss(es) are starting to ask for more complex stuff that I simply can't learn by just piecing together my Flash education.
I know there's many, many books out there that will teach you Flash but can anyone recommend any particular one(s) that are more concentrated in creating Web elements as opposed to game or animation development?

RF confuses me as a web designer

It is meant to visually layout web pages for multiple devices using css and html, but you can't output the layouts into html or css and the code it does create can only be viewed correctly in chrome which most of the people that come to the websites I develop are using IE or Firefox, some use chrome but not as many as IE or FF.
I like the visual layout aspect of creating the css and doing the media queries but I can't wrap my head around the usefulness of this tool for me if I can't actually export or have the code it creates actually work in browsers outside of chrome.
I do understand the logic behind this software and who you are targeting this for. It would make things a lot easier if instead of wrapping into a proprietary format the output is just straight html and css assetts. That would solve the issue between those designers and developers that would take the files and import them into other software adobes or 3rd parties and make it easy to actually work with the end result.
I have been using MUSE as it is simple to work with the output but it creates 3 seperate versions of the site where RF just uses media queiries and you have one site and no duplication or little of assetts.
Though like I said, RF really confuses me because it looks nice and you can do neat things with it EXCEPT actually use the designs you create as they don't work in anything outside of chrome.
I am waiting on the full version non preview release because I would use this all the time if I can actually have my designs work on the full web, as of now it is nice eye candy but I don't personally see any real use for this other than maybe a PR build up for the Creative Cloud.
If there is an actual way to use this software let me know because it really confuses me right now. I can't export my designs and I can't put them on the web because they don't work except in chrome. I don't see a use for this software for any practical web design use. Teach me how to do this if it is possible, please.

I've just been looking at RF as learning more about responsive design is something I've had on my to do list for a while.
As far as I can tell, with RF, once you preview the project in Chrome, it generates HTML and CSS files in the projects Assets folder.
So I assume the workflow is:
1. Do a mockup of your layout in RF, creating the rough layouts for the difference sizes / devices.
2. Preview in Chrome.
3. When you're happy with it, pick up the HTML and CSS that gets generated as the bare bones layout in Dreamweaver and go from there.
I've pretty much just used DW for years, and have sometimes thought it a little confusing over the last few years with Adobe releasing quite a lot of lower key programs and services, not helped with them changing names along the way.
But I get the impression its all starting to come together now with the Edge stuff, and that really they are optional tools to support DW, that help out with a very specific task. In the case of RF, just getting the initial responsive layout sketched out.

Advice on using Flash in the future for Android VS. Air VS. Web Development

First, I am not trolling and I see that other similar questions have been asked recently, though I am looking for specific info to meet the needs of our program (that is why I am posting this now).
We've been teaching Flash at a community college for many years. After Adobe stopped development of the Flash Player for browsers, I'm left wondering what the future of Flash in the web will be? Data shows that a majority of web browsing will take place from mobile devices over the next several years, and if you are not going to be able to view Flash web content in a browser from a mobile device, I am concerned about whether it makes sense to continue teaching Flash to students for web design/development. I know Flash can also be used for developing applications, Air, etc., and we do some of that currently, I'm just wondering how Adobe can expect developers to commit to the platform for web development without supporting mobile web browsers. Am I missing something? Do developers see this differently? I appreciate any insight from Flash developers or Adobe employees. FYI - I just did a similar analysis with our video editing program and asked similar questions in an Apple Final Cut Pro forum and we are moving away from Apple's Final Cut Pro after they changed direction with their latest release and we are now going to start teaching Adobe Premiere. Should we focus teaching Flash for Android and Air development and back off from using it for web development?

I'd like an answer for this one too. Thank you, "Media Kat" for posting the question. I am a prototyper with a background in art and design, who has worked exclusively with Flash for nearly 13 years. I'm currently working with AIR for Android, but my superiors and associates think AIR is going to die (along with the rest of Flash) and don't understand that simply "switching to HTML5" is not a very palatable answer. It would be helpful to hear from someone "in the know" about the future of Flash.

Looking for tutorials or guides on flash-web design

I am a (software not web) programmer, not too experienced with flash.
However I am planning to do some web design with a friend who is a flash artist. I have worked with him before and found that he embedded way too much in flash, and it made it difficult for me to display a lot of the dynamic elements. This was probably 90% my own inexperience.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend any books that cover issues to do with designing websites using flash as the graphical elements, but html etc. for the bulk of the elements i am going to be loading from a database etc. (Or if its possible to do everything through flash, perhaps just some guides on that ).

When you create a Flash swf file by publishing the source fla, you have the option to have it also publishan html file. The embedding code in that html file can be copied and pasted into any web page, so that you can paste Flash content in just like you would an image or a section of text. The embedding code just tends to take up alot of room. But still, you can embed as many swf files as you like in the same html page.
I am uncertain what you mean by loading content from a database. Normally, text content might be loaded from a DB, though XML is often better because it relaxes the need to for the maintenance crew to have to learn how to edit a database, or to create some interface that makes the easy for them. Images or Flash content would normally be placed on the server in some folder rather than be stored in DB (which I have been told is possible).
I don't personally know of any tutorials that deal with specific approaches to designing a web site involving Flash, though anytime I need to find something I find Google to be a very helpful resource. I just don't know what you're really after that I could suggest some good search terms.

How can I develop a web application using EJB design pattern?

I have searched over the web and found quite a lot of tutorials on how to use the EJB design pattern.
I know that there will be a home interface, EJB object interface and a SessionBean.
But the tutorials often only cover a single class, this made me unable to get a complete picture of how EJB design pattern can be implemented into a whole system.
I am now required to devleop an online shopping web application using EJB and JSP page.
I think I will need to create a lot of classes: Member, ShoppingCart, Product...etc.
What I want to ask is that, do I need to create a home interface, EJB object interface and a SessionBean for each of these classes?
I really need some ideas on how to develop this system using EJB + JSP pages.

Google Analytics, assuming it is available Down Under, can give stats on device and browser usage for a site. Set up take a little while and involves adding script code to your pages, but is well worth the effort.
