Web Development on MacBook Pro

Hi,
I'm in the market to buy a MacBook Pro and was wonder what the best applications are to use for php & css editing. All my other software have mac versions except for my PHPEdit and TopStyle.
Any Ideas?
Thanks Guys
Vince

I am a part time Webbie. I make web sites (pages) for classroom support. I use Dreamweaver (Macromedia, now Adobe. you don't need the latest version. Acquire MX from some source and it'll do everything a Web designer needs to do). It has a WYSIWYG capability for standard web pages and html view for for writing php, jsp, or other dynamic page formats. The key is learning how to write php scripts. Some are available form php sources that work just fine on the MAC. But you still need enough knowledge to get them to work right on any computer. I also sometimes use PHP Studio as a debugging tool.
Good luck.

You can try it, but probably not.
This Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2134 explains that a Firewire-connected, tape-based camera or camcorder mode will work.
If you don't have access to one that works, a simple workaround is to record your video with QuickTimeX Player (the v.10.x one from Lion).  You can import that recorded video into iMovie for editing.
If your Mac OS is earlier than Lion whose QuickTime does not offer movie recording as installed, use QuickTime7 Pro for recording.

  • How to remove smart web search from Macbook pro

I sem to have this hijack in FireFox on my MacBook Pro. No matter what I do to remove it, it comes back. Can anyone provide a solution?

If only Firefox is affected, not Safari, then it's probably a Firefox add-on. Remove any you don't recognize.

  • Creating iTunes U content on MacBook Pro?

Is there a way I can create iTunes U course content on my MacBook Pro for my students to access on their iPads/iPhones, etc?  I chose to purchase a MacBook Pro over an iPad as it is easier to create content/resources, but finding it more and more difficult to be able to do this.  I don't understand why the MacBook and the iPad operating platforms are taking such a divergent path.  Surely it should be more interconnected?

    Hi steve.davis0001,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will explain how to create course content on the web with your Macbook Pro using iTunes U Course Manager:

  • MacBook Pro or MacBook Air for Web & Mobile Development

    Hi  Guys,
I have always been a PC users since I was young. Currently I do Web Development, HTML, CSS, javascript and Sencha Touch HTML5 mobile app development
The reason I want to change to a Mac because I need a laptop to travel and work, previously I used a PC work station. The other reason I want to change to Mac was to purchase Apple developer kit and start to develop native iPhone App
    My Options are:
    1) MacBook Air 13 ( 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor , 8GB ram ( Free upgrade promo ), 256GHz SSD
    2) MacBook Pro 15 ( 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8GB ram ( Free upgrade promo ), 500GHz HDD
    3) Retina MacBook Pro 15 ( 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8GB ram, 256GHz SSD
As the promotion for the ram upgrade are till this week ( except for rMBP ), I need to make a decision quick. I frequently use DreamWeaver, Photoshop and I also do Photography in my pastime. Could anyone advise me on the pros and cons on this. Does Retina MacBook really worth the additional bucks that I put in. Does the web development community going to start using Retina for testing high resolution images needed so early?
Btw I own a Dell 22.5 inch IPS good LCD monitor
    Appreciate for your help thanks.

@Bimmer Sorry I was referring to another new Options
    Option 4 ) For this MacBook Pro 15 ( 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7  16GB ram ( Free upgrade promo ).
    Option 2) MacBook Pro 15 ( 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8GB ram ( Free upgrade promo ),
I can't decide on this. Need you to help me in this.

  • MacBook Pro for Web Develop/Photographer

I'm a student and I am travel photographer and web developer.I'm looking at buying a 13" Macbook Pro w/o Retina, however, I'm having trouble figuring out what configuration I need. Unfortunately, I know more about the web than I do about the inner workings of a computer. So I would love some suggestions on what to get for the processor and RAM storage.
The MacBook is going to act as my travel work laptop and it will go with me everywhere, cross country and overseas. It will be a place to offload my photos to Lightroom and do basic checking and editing. Video editing is going to occur very often. I'm also going to be using it as one of the main place for coding and designing websites
I would be running the following programs on it:
    Adobe Lightroom
    Adobe Fireworks(Or a similar program)
Adobe Photoshop (Or a similar program)
Adobe Premiere Pro (Or a similar program)
    MAMP
    Itunes
    Multiple Browser
    Text Editor
It would also be nice to have the option to add space if I would need to.
So what is the best set up for what I need? Should I get an I5 or I7 processor? What amount of memory should I get? What type of hard drive would be the best?
And is there anything else you suggest for me to get?
Also, would refurbished be a good option?
And don't just say get this. Please give me a reason as to why.
    Thanks so much.

I'd be curious to know what "issues" you think there are with the Retina MBPs. But at any rate, if you want the non-retina model I'd suggest you upgrade it to 8GB of RAM (more RAM is always better) and at least the 256 GB SSD. I also agree with Andy on using external HDDs for additional storage.
I am in a similar situation as you. I will be buying a new MBP later this year to replace my early-2011 15" MBP. I'm going to with the top model of 13" MBPr and will have additional external HDDs for backup and file storage. I don't do web development but I am an amateur photographer.
I can't stress this enough: do not forget the external HDDs for backups. Having current Time Machine backups will be critical in case of an emergency. Having an SSD in the MBP will dramatically reduce the possiblity of losing data but having backups is still important.

Yes, just be sure you download it directly from the developer website: http://unity3d.com/webplayer. A fair number of file download sites bundle adware or other unwanted content with legitimate applications/plugins.

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?
