Hi All,
Our client wants a web front end for the SAP system and has asked us to search which web dynpro ABAP or Java will be suitale ?
They were of the opinion that web dynpro for ABAP is not that good for web interfaces is it correct ?Also is there demend for web dynpro developers in the market ?
Thanks & Regards

>They were of the opinion that web dynpro for ABAP is not that good for web interfaces is it correct ?
What do you mean by Web Interfaces?  Web Dynpro ABAP and Java are well suited for created browser-based (or rich client based) business application User Interfaces.  If by Web Interfaces you mean Internet facing, highly customizable user interfaces - then no - neither web dynpro abap or java are really well suited for that situation.  WDA and WDJ are both designed to create consistent Business Application user interfaces.
Now if you just want to compare WDA and WDJ - that is a very different question. The differences in capabilities are relatively minor. Generally it comes down to which programming language you have more of a skill set in and how close to the underlying data you need to be.  Also are you planning to extend existing SAP applications?  WDA is primarily used by SAP within the Business Suite (ERP, SRM, PLM, etc) - two exceptions however - WDJ is used in ESS/MSS (although newer portions of that solution are in WDA) and CRM uses BSP/CRMUI.  WDJ is used by the middleware components (Portal) and edge or composite applications.

    Hi Ravi,
The following are basic differences between ABAP and JAVA WD.
    1. ABAP WD can be developed in ABAP Workbench thru transaction SE80 whereas Java WD needs SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.
    2. Since ABAP WD is a part of the ABAP Workbench, it has direct access to ABAP dictionary. Hence access is faster.
    3. In order to develop on ABAP WD, you will need basic knowledge of ABAP objects, whereas in Java WD, dev is using Java

    Hi,
Step step description here is not possible.
It always advisable to go to service.sap.com/instguides.
slow and steady wins the race.
    good luck.
It's advisable to have quad processor with atleast 8GB ram.
If it's a nw04s then at a shot you can select AS ABAP. JAVA, EP, PI(XI) and proceed.
    hope this helps you.

  • Are there any standard web dynpro ABAP or JAVA for material creation(mm41)?

    Hi SDN,
I have got the requirement to provide Web Dynpro application for material creation (transaction code is MM41) and I would prefer to enhance standard Web Dynpro more than develop from scratch. Now I got only the Web dynpro ABAP component for create sales order called "LO_OIF_MAIN_COMP" and GUI HTML for purchasing order that come with business package Eh4.
Anyone who know please kindly help me.

    >but I afraid that I'm not able to find out what is its component name from application
You could just lookup the WD Application in SE80 and then it will show you the component name. From SE80 choose Edit Object from the toolbar. Go to the Web Objects tab in the dialog. Type in the WD Application name and hit enter.  You will then see the details of that application.

  • Ess Time Sheet and Attendance Web Dynpro - ABAP or JAVA

We are determining the resources we will be needing for the HR - ESS Time Sheet and Attendance Module.
What is this module written in.  ABAP Web Dynpro or Java Web Dynpro.
    Many thanks,
    Multiple replies welcome.

The ESSTimeSheet is now called Record Working Time & for now it is still in WebDynpro JAVA.. looking at how complex the whole application is, it will really take some beating to rewrite the same in WDA.

  • About configuration web dynpro abap

we have ecc5.0 and we cant use web dynpro there. can anyone please tell me how can we use web dynpro there? is it related any sap license related issue? please help me about giving me some knowledge about web dynpro installation and use.
From web every user should need one sap id or one common id can be use for login through web.

    >please help me about giving me some knowledge about web dynpro installation and use.
There simply is not option to install or configure Web Dynpro ABAP on ECC 5.0 or earlier. Web Dynpro ABAP is part of the SAP_BASIS Software Component.  The versions of ECC 5.0 and earlier simply didn't contain Web Dynpro ABAP.  It was new in ECC 6.0.
If you want to create Web Dynpro applications, consider building a standalone ABAP or Java Application Server as a separate instance.  You can then do Web Dynpro ABAP or Java development on this standalone instance and make RFC and Web Service calls to your older ECC 5.0 system.

  • How to configure SSO for web dynpro ABAP (not web dynpro Java)

    Hi Experts,
I am testing SSO in IDES for web dynpro ABAP (Not for web dynpro Java / not for portal). When I am entering url of web dynpro application in web browser like internet explorer, then it should ask for user id and password first time, after login whenever user would access that url, it must not ask for user ID and password (url would be access web browser in mobile). For this I select to configure single sign-on for web dynpro ABAP. I have done below works:
1). I have created a web dynpro application having url: http://susws076.sap.swk:<port>/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/zadb_hello_world2
2). I run TCode SICF and access service node to "Zadb_hello_world2". Double click on it, hit change. pressed "logon data" tab, select "Alternative logon
         procedure"
Then deleted all logon procedure other than "SSO Authentication" and saved.
3). Go to "STRUST" and create certificate, choosed "Environment==> Logon Ticket" fill the required parameters and execute. It is OK (no red traffic
         signal).
4). Execute TCode "RZ10" to change profile parameter, insert new parameter (indicated by red arrow)
After all this settings I opened a browser enter above URL and hit enter but there is an error
There is no login page. It directly showed this error page. No cookies is saving.
Can anyone tell me what all the settings/configuration other than this I have to do. And is there any wrong setting done by me?
How to set the for single sign-on?
    Thanks in Advance

  • How can I call a java object from Web dynpro ABAP application?

I made Web dynpro ABAP application and posted it to SAP EP.
For certain business purpose, we need to call external 3rd party java object using 3rd party's java api in Web dynpro application.
Is there anybody who experienced this kind of java interface issue?
I know Web dynpro Java environment can fully support this kind of requirement. but regarding Web dynpro ABAP, I couldn't find any clue for this.
Any comment or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Raymond, ABAP Consultant

if you have jco configured, then you can make calls to java api from ABAP .

  • Web Dynpro ABAP - Java stack required?

    Hey everyone,
We are currently planning an upgrade to ECC 6.0 and Netweaver 2004s. A source of debate during this planning has been whether or not to install the Java stack in our upgraded system.
I'm an ABAP developer, so I'm really looking forward to using Web Dynpro ABAP. Does anyone know if the Java stack is required to effectively use Web Dynpro ABAP? It seems like the two should be independent...but I just want to be sure.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Chad

No, you do not need the java stack to run WDA applications.  It runs purely on the ABAP stack.  You can develop your WDA app in SE80 and run it.  It will run in a browser from the ABAP stack.  If you have a portal, then you know that this runs on the java stack.  Also, your portal is probably not running on the same box as your backend ERP system.  If you running a portal, I would suggest installing both the java stack as well as the ABAP stack for you portal to run on.  Then you will be able to use WDA to create applications to run in your portal.
So to sum up,  the portal runs on the java side, if you have both stacks running under your portal you can development WDA and WDJ applications, which both can run on that same engine.  To answer you question, you DON'T need the java stack to develop and run your WDA application, but if you want it to run in a portal, then you need a java stack to run the portal on top of.  This can be a completly separate box and a standalone java stack.   Did I confuse you even more?

  • Web Dynpro Java to Web Dynpro ABAP

    Hi all,
I am a web dynpro java developer with more than 3 years of portal development experience.
I am now put into a project with web dynpro ABAP(ESS/MSS customization).
Would like to know whether I should start concentrating more on ABAP or SAP HR?
I dont have any ABAP programming exp except that attended a training few years back.
And on SAP HR,dont have much exp except that have some knowledge on ESS customization in dynpro java.
Please let me know where I should start to get myself refreshed before starting my work.
    Any advice/docs are invited.
Also, please let me know whether there is any NWDI required for ESS/MSS customization in webdynpro ABAP.
    Thanks
    Meena

    Hi Meena,
As you have good experience of Web Dynpro JAVA.
I think you just need to comcentrate on ABAP skills.
You need not concentrate on SAP HR as ur work is technical your functional guys will take care of HR module and will help you.
For starting i would suggest you to just go through the basics of ABAP like Work areas , internal tables etc.
Then start doing some WD ABAP hands on.
    My scenario is similar.
I am a portal and WD JAVA person and this is my first WD ABAP assignment.
    I followed the above approach.
You will find many concepts similar to WD JAVA as this is just the ABAP flavour of Web Dynpro.
The below link will help you a lot

  • Created in Web dynpro Java or Web dynpro ABAP

    hi all,
I have a web application running. Its UI  is created either in web dynpro java or web dynpro ABAP. Is there any way by which we can find out that in which form of UI technology is it created; in web dynrpo java or web dynpro ABAP ?

    Hi,
I am really not sure if this is recommended..
Try some negative testing on the application. If the application crashes, the trace of the error occured will tell you what kind of development has been adopted for the Web Dynpro application.
Another hint can be the port number in the Application URL. If it is not 50xxx, and is somewht like 8xxx, it is surely Web Dynpro for ABAP.
    Regards,
    Alka.

  • ABAP Web Dynpro V/S JAVA Web Dynpro

We need to pick developing technology between ABAP Web Dynpro v/s JAVA Web Dynpro. Is technology better than other in terms of security, scalability? There is lot of documentation on the web but it is very old and out dated. I am pretty sure things have changed quite a bit with recent versions of SAP. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
PS: I Used Web Dynpro for ABAP at my previous client for SAP SRM without a problem.

    Dear Sap Fan
This has been a long and interesting debate on SDN.
You will find plenty of posts discussing this matter.
But there's no clear winner, I warn you.
    ;o)
This one in particular is very good:
But you can also check these others:
    [webdynpro java or abap;
    [Webdynpro Java or ABAP;
    [Webdynpro Java or ABAP;
    [Webdynpro Java or Abap ?;
More and more you see clients migrating from WD4J to WD4A.
Guess SAP is also heading into that direction, perhaps because Oracle bought SUN sometime ago.
I'm comfortable on both environments I have to say.
I have more than 10 years with development.
I know ABAP from inside out.
I also know JAVA and I'm certified with this technology.
    But I personally prefer WD4A.
    Why ?
Because you don't need to use NWDI.
Because you don't need to configure JCO's.
Because you integrate seamlessly the development with the transport framework (requests, etc..)
    Because debugging is great.
Because plenty of traditional ABAP tools (trace, logs, performance analysers, etc..) can also be used with WD4A
Because you don't need to worry with NWDS...just type SE80 and you're there... ;o)
And I could go on and on....
But then again, it all depends:
Do you have a lot of good in-house JAVA knowledge ?
Do you use a lof of Custom JAVA development in your company ?
Are you planning to use standard SAP (ESS/MSS or others for example) ?
I'm not saying that WD4A is "better" than WD4J.
    There's no such thing.
Each option has its pros and cons.
You also can't tell that WD4J is more secure or scalable than WD4A. Or the opposite.
And, believe me, WD4J is still going strong with a lot of customers.
But things are changing, and for me WD4A would make more sense if you want to be aligned with SAP.
    Now and in the future.
    Kind Regards
    /Ricardo Quintas

  • Web Dynpro JAVA VS. Web Dynpro ABAP

    Hi,
I'm interested in advantages and disadvantages of WD JAVA & WD ABAP. Could anybody give me some "detailed" information about it?
We need any information you can give us.
    regards,
    Sharam

    Hi,
    <b>Web Dynpro for ABAP:</b>
Web Dynpro for ABAP or Web Dynpro for ABAP (WD4A, WDA) is the SAP standard UI technology for developing Web applications in the ABAP environment. It consists of a runtime environment and a graphical development environment with special Web Dynpro tools that are integrated in the ABAP Workbench (SE80).
The use of declarative and graphical tools significantly reduces the implementation effort
    1)    Web Dynpro supports a structured design process
    2)      Strict separation between layout and business data
    3)     Reuse and better maintainability by using components
    4)     Automatic operation of the Web Dynpro application using the keyboard
    5)     User interface accessibility is supported
    6)     Full integration in the reliable ABAP development environment
    for more see:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/77/3545415ea6f523e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    <b>Web Dynpro for Java:</b>
Web Dynpro is a client-independent programming model of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform for developing user interfaces for professional business applications. It is based on the model view controller paradim which ensures that the business logic is separated from the presentation logic. This architecture is visible in the Web Dynpro perspective of the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS).
Web Dynpro helps you with the development of Web applications by:
    1)       Ensuring platform-independence with the meta model approach
    2)       Minimizing the implementation effort through declarative programming
    3)      Supporting a structured design process by applying the model view controller paradigm
    4)        Providing reuse and better maintainability by using components
    5)       Providing graphical support with tools in the Web Dynpro perspective
    6)       Providing the SAP NetWeaver Java Development Infrastructure (NWDI) which supports team work with different services such as source code versioning and the Central Build Service.
