Web DynPro or PDK?
Hi,
My company has EP6 SP6 and Netweaver04 2.0.7. We've done all of our prior development using the PDK on EP6 SP2.
We have several new projects in the pipeline and I am torn as to how to proceed. Should I continue development for the portal using the PDK or should I shift my focus to Web DynPro? Is the PDK going away in the foreseeable future?
Any comments, thoughts, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Matt

Yes i think so,
Achim is right.
I also see some newly released Business Packages requiring WAS 6.4 as the underlying layer and are of Type JAVA/Webdynpro as far as the iView Runtime requirements goes.
However i have done some Webdynpro development and am concerned about the Performance in a environment with a high volume of concurrent users cuze there is so much of interaction between the Browser and the WAS/Webdynpro runtime and this happens i guess during most of the Event handling, and View manipulation and navigation etc. But the otherway i look at it, its still way better than HTML which loads huge chunks of HTML texts again and again during every request/reply round trip whereas Webdynopro maintains presentation data in the DOM of the browser.
any comments on the performance of Webdynpro in a high volume and heavily concurrent environment, pls share your thoughts.

Is there any thing to Compare PDK and Web Dynpro
Is there any thing to Compare Enterprise Portal PDK and Web Dynpro .
please inform me what is the role of PDK and Web Dynpro in a project.
i am just confused by the termsHi Krishna,
The PDK (Portal Development Kit) is especially made to produce portal content based on jsp using the htmlb library. With the combination of JSP and tag libraries, you can even separate the presentation from the logic. However, the use of HTML tags, JSP tags and Scriptlet code demand great discipline when you develop Web applications, as otherwise the advantages of separating the presentation from the logic quickly disappear.
Web Dynpro applications are able to run in a portal also, you can make use of features like portal eventing also (two Web Dynpro based iViews can communicate with eachother as well as two iViews built with PDK). Using the Web Dynpro Client for Java (a beta-version will be available soon) you could use the same application within a SAPGui-like environment also. The new development environment for professional User Interfaces follows the model view controller paradigm and goes a few steps further in UI programming, e.g.:
- Screen management and screen flow
- Automatic data transport
- Re-usability of Web Dynpro components
- Session management
- Internationalization
- etc.
Both development tools are available with the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.
Hope that helps.
Best regards,

When to use WEb Dynpro application and Portal application in NW dev studio
I would like to know what is the difference between
webdynpro application and EP Application using PDK.
Are they comaparable ...Which one has an edge over the other specific to any applications.
I want develop an application related to e-commerce using the SAP R3 as backend for an industiry(where in a registered user can place an order and query on the staus of order. All the data will be stored in R3 ).
I am planning to dev this using NW dev studio , but have an appehension about which application is useful for this kind of application either webdynpro or EP application .
can anybody explain which one has edge over the other ( Webdynpro or EP applcations in context with NW Dev studio) and why.
thanks
PKHi,
<b>Webdynpro</b> is used when requirements ask for a prototype using minimal time n effort.
Highly skilled programmers are not necessary to write a webdynpro application
It uses dynamic controls without reloading the page.
<b>Portal components</b> esp Abstract portal component provides a lean method to write HTML command to web client
Large interactive components requires more programming.
<b>WebDynpro</b> is a highly declarative, tool-based programming model. It minimizes platform-dependent "plumbing" code for building UIs and maximizes declarative metadata describing huge portions of a typical application in a platform-independent way.
Web Dynpro follows a "top-down" approach in order to consistently support multiple runtime platforms.
In Web Dynpro you just have to drag & drop the UI components.
<b>Portal components</b> has followed a "bottom-up", programming-driven approach to Web development.

Pooja. -
Hi guys,
is it possible to use HTMLB in dynpro? if yes, how?
Thanks!HTMLB tags are used for portal component development using PDK as well BSP applications.
Web Dynpro is based more of UI modelling technique.

DB access in Web Dynpro Portal Service / or EJB with WebService ?
Hi,
I will develop a web dynpro application which will run in the EP and use an DB. How are the best practices in this scenario ? Should I use a Web Dynpro Model (EJB or WebService) for the persistence operations or should I use Portal Services ?
Regards
FloThanks,
ok some words more... , I want to find out the differences between VC, PDK and Web Dynpro. Most of the parts of the application will be written in Web Dynpro. It´s possible to access portal services in Web Dynpro. But not with a Web Dynpro Model, so will going to use EJB/Webservice.
But here I have one more question... I am wondering why EJB a n d Webservice in combination !?!? Can´t I only write a Webservice o r a EJB to achieve the DB connectivity ?
Thanks

Web dynpro preview: NoSuchMethodError
Hello,
I am trying to deploy certain Web Dynpros contained in a portal business package for ESS (ess, pcui_gp). The System I am using is a Sneak Preview Java WAS 6.40, EP6.0, SP16. The deployment process as such seems to have worked correctly as the WD Content Admin shows me a complete list of all the packages under 'Deployed Content -> sap.com' with status 'green'.
However am facing the following problem when trying to run the preview of a package, say 'sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils':
The initial exception that caused the request to fail, was:
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.context.Context.createNode(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/Class;
ZZZZZZLjava/lang/String;...)
at com.sap.pcuigp.xssutils.ccxss.wdp.InternalCcXss.<init>(InternalCcXss.java:41)
at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method)...
Unfortunately I am not yet familiar with Web Dynpro development, but I read that NoSuchMethod errors are usually due to version mismatchs. However the two packages in question - ess11p_4 and pcui_gp010p_1 - are the newest available and according to note 761266 they should fit to J2EE stacks with SP16 ?!
It'd be great if someone could share some insights on this.
Regards,
SebastianHi Armin,
thanks for your quick answer. I don't really know how to render the problem more precisely though. I newly installed the Sneak Preview Java WAS 6.40+EP.60, SP16; the output of SystemInfo is:

How is EP linked to Web Dynpro
Hi boss,
Am new to Web Dynpro willing to train in Web Dynpro, and would like to know how is EP linked to Web Dynpro. When i complete my course how should i market my self as Web Dynpro expert or EP with Web Dynpro.
Please guide me,......Thank's in advance
Points will be rewarded.
Thank you...Hi Ajay,
Webdynpro is SAP Programming model to develope web Based Application.
EP is a FrontEnd tool for Netweaver to display integrated information.
The information displayed in EP may be from R/3, non R/3, Database,WEb Applicatins.
To Display such information in EP we are using some development tools.
In Short Webdynpro is an Enterprise Portal development tool which can fetch
R/3 data,non R/3 data.
You will be integrate your webdynpro application in EP by creating SAP Webdynpro iView.
Of Course thr are lot of EP development Tools are available such asWebdynpro Java, Web Dynpro ABAP,Visual Composer,PDK. etc.
Using Model Concept in webdynpro you can fetch the data from
R/3.
Webdynpro Java needs Basic Java Knowledge and ABAP needs Basic ABAP.

I'am new in that business and have a simple question:
What is the easiest way to send emails from a web dynpro application to a specific (e.g. value of an input field in my application).
The only way I found was the "email - web service tutorial in the pdk).
Can anyone give me some code to solve this problem.
Thanx
christophHi,
Sorry ! One sec! I will edit it and do it again !
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("mail.smtp.host","Message server");
Session sess = Session.getInstance(props);
//Create new mime message object
Message message = new MimeMessage(sess);
message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(wdContext.currentContextElement().getFrom()));
String recepient = wdContext.currentContextElement().getTo();
message.setRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO, new InternetAddress(recepient));
String subject = wdContext.currentContextElement().getSubject();
message.setSubject(subject);
String content = wdContext.currentContextElement().getMessage();
message.setContent(content,"text/plain");
//Send the message
Transport.send(message);
This should work.. (Some editing error while i was pasting it !)

Try opening Visual Admin if your not able to login with username(administrator) and password. Problem with NWD2004s do the following steps.
C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC01\j2ee\configtool->configtool.bat->open it
1. Click on Secure store
2. Right you will find :
admin/password/J2E->retype your admin passowrd which you gave during installation=>SAVE properly
Restart the server and try login visual admin
Deploy now...Other wise see this thread same error solved:

Open and close a PO in web dynpro in SRM 7.0 screen .
Hi All ,
I am creating a PO in SRM 7.0 by using excel upload via web dynpro screen .
After the upload , I see that there are some problems with the PO in web dynpro .
For example , when i click on the line item it dumps and there are some other similar problems .
When I save the PO close it and reopen it , the problem goes away . May be the system handles them in some way
So , is there a way in which I can close and reopen the po through coding ?
I know there are buttons at the top that close the PO , but some how I could not get the code for that .
I will really appreciate the help here .
Thanks in advance ,
Ambar Patil.Hi...
By first instance, i think that problem may be with uploading from excel. because sometimes excel data conversion will not done properly. So due to incorrect values, PO may go into dump.. that is my thought.
if not lets wait for others answers

Ambar Patil.I'd suggest that you try the download/upload functionality as such:
1. Create a new PO from portal (just select a PO type and launch the PO creation screen without further editing)
2. Save the PO on the web
3. Click "Export" and save the XLS file onto your PC
4. On your PC, edit the XLS file to fill more PO information as needed
5. On the web, click "Edit" (of the same PO)
6. Click "Import" and upload the XLS file you just updated -

Error - Creating a Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions
Dear All,
we are trying to implement a web dynpro application with accessing ABAP functions.
Previous tasks:
- insert the ABAP system into the SLD from the NWDI System (Transaction RZ70; the ABAP system is correctly insert into the SLD => technical systems)
- equipped the JCO connections with the web dynpro content manager (ping and test = OK)
Its the standard tutorial out of the SDN called Creating a Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions.
Some hints:
- There are no errors after the implementation and the rebuild of the project in the NWDS
- The auto deployment works fine to the development runtime system. The application is shown in the Web Dynpro content manager
- The In the build log I found these entries:

- Im able to start the application out of the Web Dynpro content manager with run => only the user interface is displayed without any functionality
- The normal start over the NWDS fails => error text
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.sal.core.DispatcherException: The requested deployable object 'local/J08_Flugdat_Daventdcflight~xxx.com' and application 'FlightListApp' are not deployed on the server. Please check the used URL for typos.
There two different URLs in use.
Start via NWDS:
http://frasapp562:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/J08_Flugdat_Daventdcflight~xxx.com/FlightListApp
Start via web dynpro content manager:
http://frasapp562:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/xxx.com/aventdc~flight/FlightListApp
For test purposes, we started the BAPI (BAPI_Flight_Getlist) on the ABAP system directly. It works.
Any ideas about the system behaviours (different URLs and missing functionality)?
Thanks a lot in advanced!
Best regards

10.4.4 vs Classic
I believe that Classic is not supported in Intel based Macs at all. These run 10.4.4 However, does the PPC version of 10.4.4 still support Classic? Don't want to upgrade my PB and find that Classic is gone. - gws
