Web Fonts (firefox, safari, etc.)

Ok...i've installed snow leopard and now every website i go to pretty much has a wierd font displayed. I've tried all of the fixes and nothing seems to work. Please help...I've tried validating fonts, i've deleted all of my duplicates and i'm still having the same issues....very fustrating.

HI,
Quit Safari if it's open.
Locate this file. com.apple.safari.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file to the Desktop.
Launch Safari.
If Safari launches without any font problems, then that preferece file is corrupted. Drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
You will have to reset Safari/Preferences.
You might try to empty the cache first.
To empty the cache memory go to the Safari menu and click 'Empty Cache...'. You will be presented with a window explaining what will happen. Click OK to proceed.
And Reset Safari. To Reset Safari go to the Safari menu and click 'Reset Safari" Selec the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

  • CSS IE fine not Firefox, safari, etc Please help

    Hi,
I am new and learning. I build a website and online the CSS works fine with IE (windows), but Firefox( windows, mac) and Safari (mac) are  not using the css.  I did run the browser compatibility check in Dreamweaver and says it's ok, not issues.
Checking the mozillaezine I saw people reporting the same issue and the members of that forum are saying that it happens because the "doctype declaration" used is not standard. They say "Make sure you use a DOCTYPE that causes the page to be rendered in standard mode in all browsers".
sounds good, but  I have no idea about it, I don't know if I can use the declaration they are advising or not, I am learning this thing trial/error basis I guess.
I did use a Dreamweaver template  to create my template page - the doctype declaration was there - . I did use my template page then to develop the site.  the declaration I am using is :
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    Other site advised to change the <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    for <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8;FF=3;OtherUA=4" /> I did change it and nothing happens.
the mm_BibleGarden.css link is set relative to the document, as it was the linking in the original template.

    <http://web.me.com/stmarks/PalmBeachBibleGarden/Index.html>  redirects to http://web.me.com/stmarks/PalmBeachBibleGarden/Index.html
Could you please help me? I am really tired trying to fix and learn myself what to do to fix it.
    Ta,
    sotota

    , everybody.
    I FIXED!
After surfing on the net as crasy, I found the problem and the solution.
It's a server configuration problem. My website is hosted at mobile.me (Apple) my server reports itself as "AppleIDiskServer-1D2305".
in which CSS is ignored when viewed from the production server, but works fine locally. This is usually caused by a misconfiguration of the server and is not a browser bug.
I fixed the problem as follows
    1. Login to me.com and go to iDisk
    2. Compress all the css/html files into an archive using the gears menu in the online interface.
    3. Delete the original files.
    4. Decompress the files and move them from the decompressed archive to their original spot.
I did this and it did correct the mime type so now the site displays with formatting via the external stylesheet.
I hope this thread will help people who are hosting with Apple mobile.me and

  • Firefox/Safari page div issues...

    Hi ,
I have a “center-align” issue in most browsers – actually – the only one I’m sure it works in so far is IE 8 – but not sure why?
Within my dev site, The footer is centered with the content on all pages (as it should be) – with the exception of the homepage. In the content area of the homepage is a javascript which has a “slider” feature to scroll through a few images – and for some reason it causes the footer to align to the left side of the page:
    http://www.thecreativeadvantage.com/2011_redesign/
Secondarily (sorry) on my video pages – the video player was aligned far left – but it seemed to fix when I added a new div above it with a “sub-navigation” set of text links within – the video recentered with that in place. Not sure why, but not complaining. Now I can’t seem to get this sub-navigation to center above the video player in Firefox, Safari, etc…
    http://www.thecreativeadvantage.com/2011_redesign/gallery-vid-corporate.html
I know the answer is hidden in the css - Any assistance or advice on this would be greatly appeciated!
    Thanks so much,
    Jesse

    Hi John,
Thanks for taking the time to look - I'm not sure that's it... all of the pages are built from a template, with the header and footer "locked", and only the "main content" area is editable. The bottom of all pages (homepage included) has the closing div for the container outside of the footer, so something else is amiss - I just can't seem to place a finger on it...
    <!-- end #footer --></div>
    <!-- end #container --></div>
    </body>
I appreciate the suggestion though, and the time spent to check! I've temporarily moved on to the other centering issue as this one is driving me crazy... :{D

  • Firefox 14.0.1 @font-face displaying most web fonts in bold, even though it works fine on Windows FireFox, IE9, Chrome, and Safari

Have been working with a web site and half of the @font-face web fonts have turned to extreme bold only on Firefox 14.0.1 for Mac OS X, they work fine on windows versions of firefox and all of the other browsers.
My firefox updated a couple days ago, which is when I noticed the problem.

You can do a check for corrupted and duplicate fonts and other font issues:

  • Web fonts not showing up correctly in safari

    Hi,
It seems that this is getting worse, but I'm finding ALOT of sites where Safari doesn't render web fonts correctly. They work fine in Firefox, but Safari is my default browser.
Is there a trick to fixing this?
I can even copy out the text, paste it somewhere else and it looks fine.
    thanks-
    Dave

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

  • I have an iPod Touch and am going on a cruise where I have been told that I won't be able to use Safari so I should download Firefox.  I found "Mercury Web Browser" Firefox at the app store.  Is this what I need? I'm leaving on Sept. 3rd.

I have an iPod Touch and am going on a cruise where I have been told that Safari won't work on the ship so I need to download Firefox. My iPod said that Safari cna't download it from the Firefox website.  I found "Mercury Web Browser" Firefox, in the app store (free) and am wondering if that is what I need?  Help, I'm leaving on Sept. 3/12.  Thanks.

    - I never heard that but it may be true. It could be that for some reason Safari can't be used to log into the network. Once logged in, Safari should work fine
    - However, I see nothing that say the Mercury Web Browser is Firefox. I would contact the cruise line and ask if and how you use the ship's['s wifi for an iPhone or iPad (it will apply to iPod touch)

  • Web Fonts (WOFF) are only blurry in Firefox v32.0 (Current) with ClearType Disabled

I see this question has been asked in different ways but perhaps not in such a direct manner. I'm on a fresh load of Windows 8.1 with a default setting of ClearType Disabled. Web Fonts render perfectly fine in all browsers except for Firefox. In Firefox, they appear blurred or pixelated. When I enable ClearType they suddenly are fine in Firefox. Oddly if I then disable ClearType and logout and then login, they are still fine. I see that Google Chrome previously had a similar issue but understand they fixed the issue in Chrome. Is this an issue that needs to be addressed by Firefox? Are antialias properties going to be advanced in CSS to possibly force fonts to render properly? (Fonts are stored locally on the same domain as the website.)

    Hi,
I understand that you are asking about why when ClearType is disabled Firefox has blurry font.
If you take a look at the about:config entries on the page and search for cleartype, you will see that gfx font rendering is set to false. However for downloadable fonts it is true. It may be that you were on a site that had a downloadable font, or hosted on the web server host. There is also a force use for certain type in gdi classing family and max size. These can be changed by the user, however those are the default values currently.
You can leave feedback for the developers about this in input.mozilla.org as well.

  • Typekit Web font problem - only in PC browers

Hi. We have developed a site in Muse using a particular font from Typekit. The font in question is 'Quicksand'.
When we publish the site onto BC for viewing, on a Mac (Safari & Chrome browsers) the font shows fine, and on iPhone/iPad too. When we view it on a PC (IE8, Chrome, Firefox) it is either very feint (Chrome) or almost totally illegible and distorted (IE8 & Firefox).
We changed the font to another from Typekit on one particular page and the problem was solved.
Not fancying changing all the text, menus etc etc on the whole site, any ideas what could cause one particular font to not work like this?
    Many thanks
    Nathan

I'm having the same Muse Web Font problem. Web Fonts are beautiful in Design Mode but when in Preview Mode they're a mess. When I publish they render like in Preview Mode, a mess. They display incorrectly when viewing on a PC from any browser I've tried: IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. They look great on my iPhone but I don't have another Mac OS device from which to view. This happens with ALL Web Fonts.
Please see samples: 1) Muse Design Mode. 2) Muse Preview Mode. 3) Firefox PC. 4) iPhone.
The text displayed in images 1 and 4 is crisp but in images 2 and 3 is pixelated and misshapen. Can someone explain what's causing this and offer a solution?
    Thanks,
    ~Bob

  • Arial Unicode font for Tamil, etc.?

Looking for some style alternatives to the InaiMathi font included in OS X for the Tamil language, I noted at the the Gallery of Unicode Fonts that the Arial Unicode font includes Tamil characters, and remembered that that font is now included with OS X (10.5). I checked with Character Palette and indeed the Tamil characters are there, but they aren't recognized as equivalent to those in InaiMathi. And when I try to change some Tamil words in a document from InaiMathi to Arial Unicode, nothing happens.
I don't understand a lot about Unicode, but I know the Arial Unicode font has been around for a while (it was more or less the original effort to create a single Unicode font including all the major alphabetic scripts), and don't understand why it would contain the Tamil character set but not work for that script. It doesn't seem to work for Tibetan either, though it contains that character set as well. In fact, according to Character Palette, it seems about 90% of Arial Unicode is "character variants" that "won't display correctly". What's it for, then, anyone have any idea?

+I have always thought Windows fonts cannot be used for display. Could you describe how you use Character Palette to do that?+
Well, not "display" in the sense of opening a file using an OpenType font on the Mac and seeing it display properly. What I do in Character Palette with an OpenType font like Sanskrit2003 is scroll through the font to find the elements I want and double-click them to enter them in a document. Of course this workaround is feasible only for the occasional word, not for whole sentences or paragraphs. I'm not a big time user of any of this, so I can manage for the occasional word I want.
+The reason they do this is because a lot of documents and web pages could specify Arial in them and users would get the idea that OS X does not support Devanagari, Tamil, Tibetan, etc unless they switch the font, which is impossible in Safari.+
Yeah, I can see the reason; but wouldn't it be easier in the long run to just enable OpenType fonts so everyone can use the same fonts? And it is annoying that you can't specify fonts in Safari like in Camino.
+I agree, but have doubts this will happen soon. Perhaps more likely is an app like Mellel which does OpenType could be expanded to cover these scripts.+
Several years ago the developer of Mellel assured me that v.2 would support Indic scripts. But it never happened.
+In the meantime, OpenOffice/X11 does work for display I think.+
Yes, OpenType fonts can be used in OpenOffice/X11 (which is no longer being developed, BTW, now that there's a native OS X version). But not AAT fonts.
    +This might interest you:+
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1577715&tstart=0
Indeed, though much of it is over my head. I just want to be able to use the same fonts for Indic languages as everyone else, just as I can in Chinese, etc.

  • Garbled Fonts in Safari

I have been having issues for quite some time with Safari and it's display of certain websites. From time to time Safari displays certain webpages full of garbled fonts.... totally unreadable. I read somewhere about getting Font Fingaler.. I have used this, but it never seems to make any difference. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue... and how was it resolved. I'm hoping that the new install of Lepoard will sort this out... but that could still be months away.... anyone out there got any ideas as to how to sort this issue out??

    Hi-
It could simply be a matter of text encoding on the site in question.
Next time you have the problem, in Menu bar/View/Text Encoding, change your text encoding setting to an alternate setting. It may require some "hit and miss".
I run into the problem alot with Japanese sites. There are 4 standard encodings, and sometimes, the site in question has an encoding outside of that.
You might also check the sites with a different browser (Firefox, Opera, etc.) and see if they show the same. If not, check the text encoding settings with those browsers. This could help determine if it is indeed a Safari issue or not.

  • Some fonts in Safari not working

After updating to Safari 3.1, I noticed that some fonts in Safari now display as Helvetica fractions. However, when I use Firefox to view the same Web page, they display fine. I am using Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6 and manage Local Fonts. Some of the local fonts do not appear in the preview pane and say they are missing. I have located them and tried to add them (repaired first, all fonts do not need repair) but Suitcase will crash each time I locate the font.
Also, I noticed in Firefox that it is using the same fonts for the default set as Safari. Times & Courier. Yet these fonts aren't missing in Suitcase, so I am not sure what is happening here.

I am using Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6
12.1.7 is the current version. You should probably update.
but Suitcase will crash each time I locate the font.
Either the font is bad, or Suitcase's database is bad. That it tells you local fonts are missing points more towards a problem with Suitcase.
To reset Suitcase, close the application. It will give you a minor warning about available fonts. Click Quit. If you are NOT using Suitcase's vault, in your user account, go to ~/Library/Application Support/Extensis/Suitcase/ and delete the file:
    Suitcase Font Database.suitcasevault
In the Preferences folder of your user account, delete the file:
    com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.plist
Relaunch Suitcase. You will need to reset any preferences in the program that you have changed from the defaults. You will also lose any sets you've created.
If you ARE using the vault, following the above steps will cause you to lose all fonts you've added to the vault. If you have backups of all of your fonts, this is no big deal. Otherwise, be forewarned that they will be gone. What you can do is move the database file to the desktop. Then if the problem with Suitcase continues, you've likely eliminated its database as the problem. Then you can quit the app again and move your original database back into the ~/Library/Application Support/Extensis/Suitcase/ folder.
please tell me if I nuke my font caches, how will it affect Suitcase Fusion.
It won't do anything to Suitcase. It doesn't even create them. For the most part, OS X builds your font cache files. If you remove them, the OS will rebuild them when you restart.
