Web Fonts (WOFF) are only blurry in Firefox v32.0 (Current) with ClearType Disabled

I see this question has been asked in different ways but perhaps not in such a direct manner. I'm on a fresh load of Windows 8.1 with a default setting of ClearType Disabled. Web Fonts render perfectly fine in all browsers except for Firefox. In Firefox, they appear blurred or pixelated. When I enable ClearType they suddenly are fine in Firefox. Oddly if I then disable ClearType and logout and then login, they are still fine. I see that Google Chrome previously had a similar issue but understand they fixed the issue in Chrome. Is this an issue that needs to be addressed by Firefox? Are antialias properties going to be advanced in CSS to possibly force fonts to render properly? (Fonts are stored locally on the same domain as the website.)

Hi,
I understand that you are asking about why when ClearType is disabled Firefox has blurry font.
If you take a look at the about:config entries on the page and search for cleartype, you will see that gfx font rendering is set to false. However for downloadable fonts it is true. It may be that you were on a site that had a downloadable font, or hosted on the web server host. There is also a force use for certain type in gdi classing family and max size. These can be changed by the user, however those are the default values currently.
You can leave feedback for the developers about this in input.mozilla.org as well.

  • Fonts in the WEB FONTS GROUP: Are those the only *safe* fonts?

    I notice that iWeb allows me to choose from a variety of fonts. There are some that I like (Zapfino and Optima) but they are not in the category labeled WEB FONTS. I always believed that if you do not choose a WEB font, then your viewer may not see the font in the style that you choose because it may not be resident in that viewer's browser.
    SO, QUESTION:
    If I choose Zapfino or Optima, which are NOT in the WEB fonts group, do I run a risk that my viewers will possibly not see the text in Zapfino or Optima?
    If I choose fonts from the WEB fonts group, can I be assured that this is what a viewer will see?

    Most template pages already have a box to enter text
    into OK
    If you type in that no problems - but as soon as you
    change one word in that big text box to a non-web
    friendly font the entire text is converted to an
    image.
    So type all the text in the text box with a
    web-friendly font - then when you come to the non-web
    friendly font part click on the T (ext) button in the
    toolbar at the bottom in iWeb and it will create a
    new text box on the screen.
    Type your non-web friendly font text in this box.
    Then when you publish the big text box will be text,
    but the non-web friendly font text box will be
    converted to an image meaning your site guests get to
    see the site text as you intended and your site isn't
    slowed down by loading a big image of text which
    isn't required
    hope that's clearer
    cheers

    Hmm. OK. I'm printing this out or I'll never remember how to do it. Thank you for explaining this, Jason.

  • Why are newer versions of Firefox having problems with UTF-16le (Windows default unicode set)

    I have a website that has multiple languages on it, and so I've been using UTF-16le for it. Everything was working well on multiple browsers until the last few months, when only Firefox stopped displaying it properly. I can force the page into UTF-16le, but then some of my graphical links no longer work and I cannot navigate through the pages unless I force every single page to UTF-16le EVERY SINGLE TIME. This problem is not unique to my computer, either, as this has happened with every computer I have tried in the last few months.

    As answered before a few weeks back [[/questions/770955 *]]: the server sends the pages as UTF-8 and that is what Firefox uses to display the pages. You need to reconfigure the server and make them send the pages with the correct content type (UTF-16) or with no content type at all if you want Firefox to use the content type (BOM) in the file.

  • URGENT - ARE LATEST VERSIONS OF FIREFOX DOWNLOADS INFECTED WITH MALWARE/ADWARE?

    It is VERY URGENT that the following is looked into by Mozilla Firefox and anyone else who uses this browser, as it would appear that the latest installation downloads from Mozilla Firefox (GB-EN) for versions 28.0 and 29 (and quite possibly previous versions) ARE THEMSELVES INFECTED with malware/adware. This is the only conclusion I can come to after repeated resets of my computers to factory settings, and everything is fine until I re-download Mozilla Firefox and select it as default browser, then the following happens when my Office 365 account is accessed:
    In Office 365, if I select the 'File' menu and 'Office Account', then click on the 'Manage Account' button, TWO tabs on the default browser (if it is Firefox) are opened and the SECOND tab is a malware/adware page, usually called something like www.74f.com or another URL or server with a number, and sometimes this has an email address on the adware page that opens. This only happens when Mozilla Firefox is the default browser - it does not happen in Internet Explorer. In IE, the second tab is the correct tab for the Account in Office 365.
    This has caused me to do repeated resets to factory default settings on my two laptops, one running Windows 8.1 64 bit and one running Windows 7 64 bit, and everything is fine when re-installation of all programs is complete and IE is the default browser. As soon as Mozilla Firefox is downloaded - the latest versions 28 or 29, and Firefox is set as the default browser, the malware/adware tab reopens in Office 365, as above.
    On doing a search on what www.74f.com is, it appears to be registered on servers in China.
    The malware/adware seems to be directly connected with the download and installation of the latest versions of Firefox. PLEASE INVESTIGATE URGENTLY - as although Firefox has always been my favourite browser, there is no way I am ever going to use it again unless this is solved, as I am fed up with doing factory resets of my computers to solve this. Each time I re-install Firefox it happens again, to a previously clean system.

    First - Relax
    So to clarify what the issue is. What apparently no one of our IT experts could figure out in a YEAR!
    If you trace everything with Procmon you will see that this is a simple issue of not putting Quotation marks around Command line arguments.
    That is what Office is executing as you click that "Manage Account" button.
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http://o15.officeredir.microsoft.com/r/rlidOfficeManagementPortal?ver=15&app=outlook.exe&clid=111&p1=1&lidhelp=1111&liduser=1111&lidui=1111&MachineKey=11111-111-111111 66F
    So there is a MachineKey generated with a space in it.
    What happens if you execute this in cmd… Correct – Firefox will assume that 66F is a 2nd argument in this case a URL and translate it to www.66f.com after not finding a DNS record for 66F in the local environment.
    Of course ChinaHackers will figure this out too and maybe use this… but then I couldn’t find anything strange with the 66f website.
    As in this case: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" FirstTab 2ndTab
    This is not a Firefox issue MS should just bloody put his Urls in Quotation marks!
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" “http://o15.officeredir.microsoft.com/r/rlidOfficeManagementPortal?ver=15&app=outlook.exe&clid=111&p1=1&lidhelp=1111&liduser=1111&lidui=1111&MachineKey=11111-111-111111 66F”
    Now feel free to write Microsoft and tell them thanks for wasting 15min of my day.

  • I use web mail from lotus notes and need Firefox to connect with my MacBook Pro. Since updating to version four I no longer have the ability to see or open attachements. What I am doing wrong?

    I updated my MacBook Pro with version 4 yesterday. I access my company's lotus notes with this browser. I can access the web site, but cannot open attachments. The message I received is that I have removed the attachment. I haven't. The text that states the name of the attachment is there. I can click on it but it won't open and there is nothing in the attachment box in Web Mail.

    Try the "light mode". Surprise :)

  • Animate: two animations -- web font not applied in 2nd animation in IE

    Hello,
    Edge animate has another problem:
    -- 2 animations are on the same webpage
    -- both animations are using the same webfont Vera Sans which is available in Dream Weaver and Animate
    -- If only one animation is placed on a webpage, the webfont Vera Sans will be applied.
    -- If both animations are on the same webpage (directly placed below the first, no extra CSS applied), the second animation is not displaying the web font, it is displaying a default font. This problem occurs in IE and is not visible in Chrome / Safari.
    If I change the order, it is still the first placed animation inside the HTML which works perfectly and the second is loosing the web font. What might be wrong here?
    Here a sample how to reproduce the error:
    1. Create a new Edge Animate project like Test_M_3
    2. Insert a new text object (width: 400px, height: 200px) and enter the following text: Test Man Errata PolyQ Zentauri Salut
    3. Set the text style by adding a web font "Vera Sans" only.
    4. Save your animation and publish using the Animate publishing package option.
    5. Open Dreamweaver , create two DIV boxes and insert the edge animation in each DIV box.
    <!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Test Teaser</title>
    <body>
    <div>
      <object id="EdgeID" type="text/html" width="570" height="420" data-dw-widget="Edge" data="../<your directory>/edgeanimate_assets/Test_M_3/Assets/Test_M_3.html">
      </object>
    </div>
    <div>
    <object id="EdgeID2" type="text/html" width="570" height="420" data-dw-widget="Edge" data="../<your directory>/edgeanimate_assets/Test_M_3/Assets/Test_M_3.html">
      </object>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    6. Save your HTML file and open it in IE 11.
    The first DIV box is containing the animation with web font Vera Sans, the second DIV contains the animation with a default font. This is what I don't expect.
    This situation will not change if you save the animation a second time with a different name and use different names for the text object inside Animate.
    Yours
    Stephan

    If its working fine on a server and not when opened via a file browser mostly points to some security errors.
    Do IE and Safari console throw any security errors?

    The Web Fonts that are currently available via the Add Web Fonts dialog in Muse are available for use on any site with no limits on page views or any other limits.
    Note the 400+ Web Fonts currently available via the Add Web Fonts UI in Muse is a small subset of all the fonts available via Typekit. At present Muse doesn't have a built-in mechanism to access and use the additional paid/metered fonts available through Typekit. (We're waiting for some work to be completed on the Typekit side of things before we'll be able to offer these additional fonts within Muse.)

    Hi there,
    this is a Family Sharing question. After we upgraded to family sharing, and I now have a new apple id, I find that all the documents on my iPad in pages,  are only accessible if i sign in with the original apple id- now my husband's ( he is the primary account holder). Is there an easy way to migrate these documents to my iCloud account, or do i need to email them to myself . There are a couple of hundred documents.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Thankyou for the reply.
    No. I have tried twice. When I turn off pages in the iCloud settings while logged into his account, then my documents in pages just are gone. They return when I turn it back on.
    Is there another way I can save them to the device?

  • [SOLVED] My firefox fonts are too blurry / smooth

    Hello, Im a mint user so far but I really want to move to Arch but my fight versus Fonts are not good:
    Fonts 3 - Me 1
    No luck
    I readed the wiki enough times but I'm not a font expert, but I tried a lot of stuff.
    So far:
    I installed win7 fonts from AUR, ttf-mac (for lucida grande), and obviously dejavu and liberation.
    The fonts are good, but I can't render them properly.
    This is my .fonts.conf:
    <?xml version='1.0'?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="rgba">
    <const>none</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="hinting">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="antialias">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    I have dualhead (24"+24" (but 16:10 / 16:9), 3840+1200) with twinview.
    I dont know what dpi I have ("xdpyinfo | grep dot" says 93x94 but.. I have two monitors and xorg treats it like a big one).
    About my fonts.conf, I tried the lcddefault (no changes), I can't use any rgba option (I got a weird double color / shadow behaviour).
    In short, that is the conf that have the best results.
    Problems: I saw that the fonts color are always slightly light and blurry.
    Example:
    Arch blurry (the color problem is not noticed with blue)
    http://i.imgur.com/XSNT4.png
    Ubuntu crisp:
    http://i.imgur.com/pnhWE.png
    I admit that are not that bad, but is there
    With bigger fonts, the problem is more noticiable but I have not found a clear example.
    I looked all mint configurations, tried to imitate it, but the fonts still renders different. (same .ttf)
    Ideas? Thanks.

    I changed the images for links
    And yes, near identical.
    I digged deeper. Without ".fonts.conf" and using gnome 3 with slight hint and antialiasing to "rgba", the result is good enough (I don't know where gnome-tweak-tool saves the config).
    Seems like gnome activates subpixel (rgb) and uses a lcddefault. I tried subpixel in the past but was kinda "missplaced" so the effect was really bad.
    So, activating rgb subpixel and using lcddefault, solves the problem, well, at least same result as ubuntu / mint
    So, I will mark this as solved, and I hope it helps who comes after

  • Are web fonts working only on Business Catalyst?

    I've made a website using some of the web fonts like "Dosis light". When previewing in muse and in my browser everything seems to be ok.
    Will these fonts work if I export my site into html and upload it on FTP?

    As I see it was such an easy answer and I wonder why I had to get in contact with staff members just to be provided with a little help. People here should be more helpful toward each other IMHO
    Thanks for your reply Aish.

  • Why does Firefox no longer display .php suffix web pages which are in my Mac?

    I have a question about Firefox 14.0.1 displaying .php suffix web page files which are in a Mac running Mountain Lion OS 10.8. In eaarlier versions of Mac OS, for example 10.4.7, I was able to see properly displayed web page files with .html and .php suffixes when those web page files were in my computer. I refer to seeing the page as it should properly display, not seeing the source code. If a page had a .php suffix, the browser displayed the page properly although any php scripts embedded in that page were ignored.
    Apple occasionallly updated its OS and browser makers occasionally updated browsers. One day, I noticed that Safari no longer displayed web page files in my Mac if those pages had a .php suffix. However, Firefox and other browsers continued to display web page files with .php suffixes although the embedded php scripts were ignored.
    Now, I have Mountain Lion in iMac.
    I can no longer see .php suffix web page files in my computer regarless of the browser I use. No browser displays those pages.
    A .php suffix web page file which Firefox and other browsers display in 10.4.7 does not display in 10.8 if that web page file is in the computer.
    In my computer, I have html and php suffix web page files I want to see using a browser. The files I want to see and the browser both are in my computer. Html files display perfectly with one exception: if php scripts are embedded in the html files, the scripts are ignored. A file the name of which ends with ".php" will not be displayed regardless of whether there is a php script in the file. Safari displays the source code only. Chrome does not display the file at all. Firefox and SeaMonkey, which displayed .php suffix web page files in earlier versions of the Mac OSm now respond to such pages by providing a dialog box which seems to assume that the file is about to be downloaded from the Internet. The dialog box asks me if I want to use the browser to open the file or if I want to save it to disk. The file is on the disk at the time, and the computer is disconnected from the Internet. I click that I want to use the browser to open the file. Then the dialong box reopens with the same question. This happens over and over. I never get to see a web page file in my computer the name of which ends with ".php". With Firefox 14.0.1, I can see .php suffix web pages which are on the Internet or in a 10.4.7 Mac but not in a 10.8 Mac. Did I miconfigure Firefox? It seems unlikely that Firefox lost the ability to display pages in Mac OS 10.8 which it displays in `10.4.7. How can I solve this web page display problem?

    Haroon mentions two solutions. I used the easier one, which is to start the Apache webserver already in Mountain Lion and to enable the php already in Mountain Lion. It worked. I see the file correctly displayed with html, css, and php. I see the page by using Firefox. I enter an address in the address bar. For example, the address might be "localhost/example/example.php". I cannot see the page by using Firefox's "Open File ..." menu option or by dragging the file's icon onto Firefox's icon. I tried using your solution also but was unable to find the specific preference to modify. I found the page of preferences which may be modified but I could not find the one I need. I found a list of descriptions of the preferences at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries
    but I could not find the specific preference which I need.
    By the way, to enable loading the php module, one uncomments a line of code by deleting the initial "#" character, and one does that by pressing control key and "P" key while the cursor is over the "#" character.
    Also by the way, when I use Firefox or Safari to look at the Apache web directory in which my files are, the files are listed case sensitively. For example, the files are listed: Ace, Zygote, bar. This is because lower case follows upper case. THis annoys me. I prefer case insensitive listing. When I llok directly athe directory without using a browser, the files are listed case insensitively. For example, they are listed: Ace, bar, Zygote. I guess taht Apache is doing this.
