Web Galleries and overall image migration

Hey all,
I've got a question regarding the MobileMe web galleries. I'm pretty sure that you can create them in three places; Aperture, iPhoto and iWeb. So my question is kind of relating to two methods of creating and collaborating web galleries.
Say that you've created a web gallery in iPhoto in a pinch but use Aperture primarily. Now you're on Aperture and want to continue to update that gallery. Is there a way to migrate that gallery from iPhoto to Aperture. Or, and this is my situation more specifically, say you're on vacation and create an Aperture based web gallery on your Macbook. Now you're back home and want to continue using and updating that web gallery but are now on the Mac Pro. Can that gallery be migrated from the Aperture database on the Macbook over to the database on the Mac Pro?
To that point, how about image alterations and settings. I've captured some 1200 photos while on vacation, tooled around with them on my Macbook while away making color adjustments, adding vignettes and general improvements. Is there any way to then migrate those albums and/or settings over to the other database in the other system? Seems a shame to have to do all that leg work all over again. Perhaps it's just a matter of grabbing album folders from the database package and bringing them into the other database package?

"Migrating" your photos, albums, adjustments, etc. is a piece of cake. Just export the project/s using file export project from your laptop and use file import project on your desktop. Move or share the .approj file from your laptop to desktop in the way you are most comfortable with.

As for web galleries - can't answer that one with detail because I find them uselessly frustratingly unexplainably notoriously unreliable and I hate that you have no control over color profile for downloadable images. So I don't use them now after playing with them for a bit.

  • Web Galleries and new iWeb album pages

The new version of iWeb allows for "album" pages that serve as a collection of all the photo and mvies pages that are in a site. This is pretty slick, and allows one to re-order the photo pages exactly like one can re-order photos on one of the photo pages.
I am playing with web galleries, and notice that you can create a widget for a gallery for any iWeb page. When I do this on my album page, the widget shows up, but does not act like or interact with the other picture pages. It is simply a "widget" that sits on the page where it is placed. Has anyone figured out how to get a (link to a) gallery to act like one of the photo pages?
    -=[doug]=-

I'm searching the forum for a solution to this too; web galleries look cheap next to the albums, and there's no reason for it. Short of changing all of my albums to galleries, here's my temporary solution, but it's a half-measure:
    1) Drop a square on top of your .Mac Web Gallery widget that's just a bit larger than the widget.
    2) Select the square, and in the Inspector, go to the Graphic Inspector, and under Stroke, select Picture Frame.
    3) Select the frame that matches your album's format, then resize the square until it's just about the size of the widget, or provides the desired border width around the widget.
    4) Move the square backward, behind the widget.
    5) If desired, add a dummy album name beneath the gallery for visual continuity.
    See my example here: http://www.vehphoto.com/sandrift/Photos/Photos.html
This worked for me because I'm using a white background and white frames; your mileage may vary depending on what theme and picture frames you're using. (I can't recall if I enabled additional frames in the Inspector as described in the Keynote forums - if a matching frame appears to be missing in the Inspector, let me know and I'll double-check this.)
Still, it's a sub-optimal solution, because 1) the widget cannot be resized 2) the widget still contains the gallery name, and 3) widgets cannot be rearranged the way albums can - they probably have to be segregated from albums.
I'll be posting feedback on this at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html

  • Making large html web galleries (400-1400 images)

Please post a link to methods on how to do this if I have missed an earlier answer.
I have been building large html web galleries to provide to clients on disks along with the original images. When I do this for galleries of around 400 to 1400 images and up, the web gallery is made but there can be images that are missed and listed as 'not in the library' even though they are present and intact.
I have found a clumsy workaround. After choosing the group of images in the library and selecting the web template in the web module, I open each thumbnail index page and let the thumbnails load and then move to the next index page and let it load, etc. After finishing all the index pages I export the web page. Often I still get error messages but in fact all the images are loaded into the web page and it can be opened with a browser with no problems or missing images.
This is a time consuming method to accomplish something that should be easily automated and automatic. It seems that LR gets ahead of itself in making a page before it has actually loaded the image file...therefore an image is missed.
Has anyone found a better way to do this for large groups of images or do we have to wait for an update to correct this glitch.
    Thanks in advance.

Try setting off the gallery export overnight and really leaving it time to finish. I suspect the progress bar isn't totally accurate and things happen before and after it has apparently completed. See if this works.

  • Thumbnail Filenames in Web Galleries and Filmstrip

Without file names under Web & Filmstrip thumbnails, it's extremely time-consuming to search 500 images for any given file. Bridge and PS web galleries have gotten this right, so why not Lightroom?

It may be because the slides can be be placed together in a collection and sorted in the grid. When the images are in the right order you can then move to the web gallery.

  • Aperture Web galleries and own website integration - how flexible are they?

I've mainly been learning Aperture's photo management and adjustments and until today have ignored web albums and books.
Just had a play with making your own galleries for the web and I love the integration of captions. Was thinking I would have to rewrite all of these for my own website. At this stage does the Aperture webpages offer key word searching for website visitors? I'm guessing not but that would be a cool feature. I'm tired of waiting for google etc to work out searching jpeg embedded iptc data.
My main concern is how adaptable are the Aperture webpages to integration with one's existing website. The original concept of my own website was to add an image gallery with shopping cart facilities where people can click on an add to cart icon below each image. Would it be easy to integrate shopping cart facilities to the Aperture generated webpages?
I also wanted to have articles which use my images - I guess the webjournal could be used for that. Again, would it be possible to integrate a shopping cart into that as above?
One last dumb question - I exported a webgallery with one image just as an experiment and see it creates an index.html file. If I want to integrate this into my website (which already has an index file) do I just change the Aperture index file to something like imagegallery.html with an appropriate link on my own website. Or is it more complicated? And what about images I add later on and then export. Do they go to the same export folder and does changing the index file complicate this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Ross

i have posted a thread in the Aperture Assistant forum about this, and am looking for the same functionality.
yes you can use an external solution like SmugMug or Zenfolio, but to be able to have a synchronised gallery that clients can make selections, that update your library in a synchronised system would be second to none.

  • Bridge Help | Create web galleries and PDFs with Adobe Output Module

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/using/create-web-galleries-pdfs-adobe.html

    Plug-ins that failed to load:
It seems to me that something is wrong with your install. Maybe you did clone a former mac to install on this one? or copies old stuff to the new one. Don't know, it seems easy and quick but I prefer always a new install using a new computer or switching to a new system upgrade.
Lightning effects shows to be 32 bit while I think to know that Photoshop CS5 and CS5.5 are both 64 bit, however Bridge was turned to 64 bit in the CS6 version but that should not mater for you to use both applications from the same install disk (or download?)
And variations is something I tried to find in CS6 but can't find it there. I had long forgotten this feature that presented different previews and you could switch to color corrections and brightness (not sure) while looking at the result in the previews.
So I think you have some old material residing on your system. I would advice you to back up all custom settings (actions, tools, workspaces etc. and keywords in Bridge) Then do a search for the Adobe Cleaner tool :
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html?promoid=GYTAU
(don't know this links work for you but you can find it easy with google).
Read the instructions carefully and follow this using the official uninstaller that came with PS (see application folder). Also be sure to have your serial number and AdobeID present and while an activation of PS is for the computer maybe for security first deactivate before uninstall.

  • Web pages and/or images not loading

This problem started a few weeks ago once every few days or so, then got more and ore frequent where now it is happening multiple times each day.
I am using Safari 6.1 on an iMac running OS 10.7.5
Random web pages (some way more than others) will not load when I go to them. Sometimes, the text of the pages will load, but no images. Sometimes the URL progress bar will go across about an inch and the screen will go to blank white (this is most often) and it will just sit there. If I leave it alone, usually the web page will finally load about 4-10 minutes later on its own.
I have talked with my ISP and we have tried the following fixes, with no positive results:
When the problem happens, I try pinging the website {using Network utilities) and it always pings just fine.
When the problem happens, I run Traceroute (using Network utilities) and email him a screen shot of the results.
I have changed my DNS numbers to OpenDNS, per his comments.
I have removed the router and plugged in direct.
I have replaced all my Cat5 cables with new Cat6 cables.
While the problem is happening, he can ping me just fine from his end.
When the problem happens, I open Firefox and go to the same site, and have the same blank results in Firefox.
When the problem happens, I can open a new Safari window and go to other sites just fine.
This morning, I had the same issues, so I left it to clear on its own. I then went to Outlook to check my email and I had two emails where the images would not load at all, just like the web pages. So I left it alone for over 20 minutes and still no loading. Then I quit Outlook, re-opened it and the images came in just fine. During that 20 minutes, the web pages loaded in Safari in the background.
I found and read a discussion about this issue  (  https://discussions.apple.com/message/22125235#22125235  ) and per that conversation, I created a GUEST user account, closed out of my account and logged in as a GUEST. I then used Safari to browse the web ans while it was faster, eventually after about 30 minutes, I found a page that would not load (one of my usual suspect pages). I then sat back and let it go and after 5 minutes, the page loaded just fine.
    HELP!!!!!
    John

    Interesting side note . . .
After writing this (above), I clicked on the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page and the screen went blank white and it sat there for more than five minutes, when it finally went through. SO, i had my problem occur while submitting my question about the problem!
    Awesome!

  • Web Galleries and Passwords

Are web galleries able to be password protected?

Ok Christoph, I think I see what you're saying.
You can only set one password for the top level Web Gallery index page - you would like to send people to gallery.mac.com/mygallery#gallery and depending on how they log on they would then get access to different content - a bit like having more than one gallery really via login/password.
    Is that correct?
You probably know that you can set separate login names/passwords for the individual albums on the gallery top level page. You do this in iPhoto by choosing a gallery, clicking Settings, then Album Viewable by - Edit names and passwords.
This would allow you to have top level albums viewable by all, and other albums by individual login/passowrds. The problem with this though is that you can't tell which album you can access for a given username which might confuse people, unless you named the album accordingly Work - Office Party, Family - Joe's Birthday or something and told people which category Work/Family/etc they could access with their logins.

  • Web Galleries and Captions

I know that in order to show captions in a Web Gallery you must copy the caption into the Version Name field. For the most part that works okay, but some of my captions are longer than the image is wide, so it gets cut off. Yes, you can see the whole thing by mousing over it in the index or selecting the I-button to flip it over. Neither of those are intuitive to my viewers, however, and even the I-button field isn't quite long enough for a couple of them.
I found an Aperture plugin that makes a flash-based gallery with Captions that can be exported to a folder. The plugin is called "Flash Album Exporter." Its only downside is that you must export it to a folder and then upload it to your iDisk. If you are hosing somewhere besides MobileMe, that is fine, but I prefer the simplicity of one-click publishing directly to MobileMe.
Is there a better solution for this?

    Bob,
When captions are a key factor, I publish as a Web Page, and not Web Gallery. The features of easy downloading for the viewer is not there, nor is the full screen slideshow, but it is a good choice to provide images of an event where the viewer may not have been there themselves and need lengthy captions.
With a Web Page, you can keep the version name, and simply also provide the info you enter into the Caption field of the metadata.

  • Updatable web galleries, and intelligent upload

It should not be necessary to recreate a web gallery every time you add an image or two to an existing collection which corresponds to that web gallery. Somehow the content and format of the gallery needs to be saved so that you can just update the existing web gallery, adding only the new images and updating the thumbs database as needed.
Then, during upload, some intelligence needs to built in so that only the new or changed files are uploaded, and the whole gallery on the server is not replaced...and so that if an error occurs during upload you don't have to upload the whole gallery...just the part that didn't upload on the first try.
As it is, it takes hours to create and upload a gallery of 200 images...and then I have to resort to an ftp program that can take up where it left off to get it to upload.

  • New iPhoto web galleries and iPhone

I've made several web galleries via the new iPhoto and put them on my .mac site. When I go to view the gallery from my iPhone I never get past the login window. • Numbers in web gallery and resource image folders do not match

When I create a web gallery in Bridge, the numbers in the resource image folders, (Large, medium, thumbnail) do not match the name and numbers in the gallery and are completely out of order. The numbers are long and random.  My client is trying to email the small files and cannot locate them easily.
I have never had this problem before....can you help?
    Thanks!!!

Thanks Think, I've tried that. The strange thing is when I
open the page in Contribute, it shows the original image. When I
click Edit page, the image I want on the page is on the page. Not
sure what I've done. Pages were originally created in Microsoft
2007 and uploaded to the web. I am using Contribute to edit, it
seemed like it would be much easier to edit pages.

It has been hypothisized by some that Aperture does additional sharpening on export - I think it would be good for Joe to clear up if it's really doing that or what looks like sharpening is something related to downsampling instead, which I think is what you were also thinking.
Can you post a Photoshop downsampled version of one of the trouble images for comparison? You can open a duplicate version in an external editor, resize and save - when you go back into Aperture it will see the size for that version has changed. Then you can export that version as "Original Size" and it will pretty much be the same as the Photoshop version. I think if the resized version is not larger than the web gallery maximum size it will also pretty much put the resized version in place.

  • Web galleries put images under a bin directory

The web galleries put the images (both thumb and large) in a path like content/bin/images/... For hosts that use Microsoft Internet Information Server, the bin part of this path breaks the link to images, so they don't display. WHY IN G's NAME do you use bin? bin is for executables, in both unix and Windows, surely.
Because I use a host that uses IIS, I can't use Lightroom-generated web galleries.

Open the folder default_html.lrwengine (it's inside the lightroom app folder) (you should make a backup copy just in case)
    Open the file galleryInfo.lrweb
    after the line ["photoSizes.thumb.width"] = 130,
    Add
    ["photoSizes.large.directory"] = "large",
    ["photoSizes.thumb.directory"] = "thumb",
    In grid.html change the line <img src="$others/bin/images/thumb/<%= image.exportFilename %>.jpg" id="ID<%= image.imageID %>_thumb" alt="" class="thumb" />
    to <img src="$others/thumb/<%= image.exportFilename %>.jpg" id="ID<%= image.imageID %>_thumb" alt="" class="thumb" />
    and in detail.html change <img src="bin/images/large/<%= image.exportFilename %>.jpg"
    to
    <img src="large/<%= image.exportFilename %>.jpg"
    That should get you going.
As to why it uses bin? no idea..
