Web galleries slow for everone else?

Howdy all,
Nobody else seems to be complaining here so maybe it's just me. I've sent out a few galleries (roughly 100 photos each) to friends and family but had nothing but complaints.
First the whole browser requirements freaked them out, most just hit 'use current browser', at least on the first attempt. Then the loading begins. I think for many the problem was that it actually says 'loading', then appears to finish loading, but really it's still loading in the background and drawing the page etc. So they start pressing buttons and scrolling around and then more loading starts, then they press a few more buttons (just to get an idea of what happens I watched my brother as he opened it for the first time on his PC. It's painful to watch). I've started telling people they'd be better off going to make a coffee and coming back 5 minutes later.
Overall the user experience seems very frustrating for anyone who doesn't have the latest and greatest harware and internet connection. I've sent galleries to around 20 people (all on broadband) and most have reported simliar problems, the only good reports were from people viewing from their work computers on super-fast internet. Even on my G5 tower here at work with fast connection, it still aint that snappy. Just loading the first page takes up to 1 minute. For a web gallery that's not great. And it's messy, the page seems to build randomly in pieces, not top to bottom, and the little reflections don't seem to work very well on different browsers. There's no indication of loading time, just the spinny thing, which could be 20 seconds or 20 minutes. All very unfriendly. I've also noticed some buttons appear, (such as the download button) but don't actually work straight away, so add to the confusion. Somtimes the download button doesn't seem to work at all, particularly on the slideshow pages.
Is it me? Are there hidden settings somewhere? Is it my photos perhaps? Thanks for any advice. I'm not ranting, just curious if this is what everyone else is experiencing. It's otherwise all very cool.

Terry:
You shouldn't have to but remove the password from the gallery, publish it and check that you can view it unprotected. Next reassign the password and republish. See if that won't get it published with a password.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

• Web galleries - optimise for search

I have IT skills but am no web designer. I had someone create a simple photography web site using Flash, with the page design looking similar to a Lightroom Flash web gallery template. (See www.duncangrove.com) I am now able to easily update my galleries using no specilaist skills, which is great. My concern though is that the galleries do not seem to be "search friendly". I suspect I could do something to each of the gallery's' Index.html page to add meta tags but since a new index.html page is created every time I add a new image, this would be very time consuming.
The issue really came to light when client approached me to purchase an image for a large sum of money. He had found the image on my old Picasa site that I have not bothered with for years (and am ashamed of since it looks amateurish.) A Google search for the subject matter lists it fairly high up the fist search page. My "proper site" does not even show up in the same Google search, even though the image titles contain the key wrods that were searched for.
I would appreciate any comments/suggestions.
Regards

I *think* Google parses flash files, but if they do I don't think the indexing
is 'weighted' the same as keywords in html files, which may be why your old site
ranks higher than your new one. I use an html gallery and Google finds my pages
about the way I'd expect.

• IBook app slow for anyone else too?

I have noticed when i try to use my ibook app its running slow. This is happening on my iphone 4, and old 3GS. Its especially noticeable when you flip books to horizontal to read, it takes it a good few seconds to flip over.
i know seconds is not a big deal, but in any other app when i turn the phone it immediately flips over the screen. And i remember when i first got the ibook app it wasn't like this. more recent thing, and happening on both phones. so i don't is this a software bug?
anyone else with this issue?

One odd thing that I noticed is that when I FIRST open my Pooh book (the free one), it gives me an error, telling me that the required resources aren't there, and doesn't open. Then I can open it again, IMMEDIATELY, and it opens just fine. I deleted the book the first time (because it would never open, and would always give me that error), and now it opens, but only on the second time...
Anyone else having this error?

• Is LR6 SLOWER for anyone else? Major issue for me...

So I updated CC. I'm running a Macbook Pro Retina, 10.9.5, 2.3Ghz i7, 16Gb RAM
Imports are WAY slower now than they used to be. I convert to DNG & create Smart Previews. I don't know what's changed, but it is way slower than it used to be.
Also, when editing photos via Smart Previews, sometimes the photo takes WAY too long to load....it just stays pixelated. I'll move on to the next photo or plug in the external drive...but LR5 never did that.
I'm not sure what is happening with these "performance enhancements" but I'm definitely not seeing it.
Any way to get this to speed back up? I've got 2 weddings next weekend & I can't stay up all night importing photos.

Try turning off the GPU acceleration. It's under Preferences/Performance.

• What Can I do with Web Galleries?

Hi.
I want to use web galleries, but for different purposes. Say some for business, some personal, some for discussion boards. If I have one .mac account do they all end up in one gallery? If so, is there a way to prevent that? I don't want the business guys seeing my home galleries, and vice versa...
-Scott

Scott:
You can password protect the home galleries with a user name and password and give it out only to those you want to have access.
For the business you might consider another .Mac account, a deductible expense, and put the galleries there as well as any web page you might create for the business.

Hi. I am trying to use Bridge to make web galleries. There used to be something on PS for that but now I cant find it in PS so I was advised to use Bridge. However, there is something called Output Module (AOM) that is missing from my Bridge. I downloaded this. The instructions say :Copy the Adobe Output Module folder (not the AOM_Package_[OS] folder) into the Bridge CC Extensions folder in the appropriate location:
Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CC Extensions
Mac OS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CC Extensions. However there is noplace on my Macbook Air running Yosemetie that has this /Library/Applications SUpport/Bridge CC Extensions. Can anyone advise?

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Safebooting disables Launch Agents/Daemon and Third Party Kernal extensions. Here's the article to Safeboot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

• Ampersand in Title/Caption for Web Galleries

You probably all know this already, but I didn't...
I've been getting to grips with the
Sean's tip for formatting captions in web galleries, including
Matthew's Slimbox gallery. As you'll see in the thread linked above, I had some trouble initially using it with Slimbox, but I thought I'd got to grips with it until...
A title for one of my pictures was "Beer & Blues". By that I mean the Title field in the Library module, as distinct from the Title field in the Web Module.
In Flash galleries it works just fine.
In the LR HTML (and Slimbox) galleries using an & in the image title metadata field can cause a variety of symptoms including:
- just displaying a blank background and never getting round to rendering the gallery when Web module is selected
- replacing "Custom Settings" next to the Title/Caption radio buttons in the Web module with "Edit...", consuming 100% CPU, displaying the rainbow spinning beach ball of death, and taking several minutes to return
- apparently working but obstinately refusing to acknowledge any edits made
There appears to be some interaction between this behaviour and using the <ag:formatted> technique, but I'm struggling to pin it down.
All of these symptoms disappear by using either "and" or "&" in place of "&".

Sean,
I'm sure you're right and that's what's happening. I have no excuse for not realising although I did track it down by a process of elimination.
Anyway I know

• "Tell a friend" email for web galleries- black on black for PC users

Whenever I send out an email to friends with info for a web gallery, everyone who uses a PC (most everyone I know) gets the email and the text is black on a black background and they can't read it. I have to add text to the email with the username and password. When I cc myself on the email and get it on my Mac, it's white text on black background.
What's going on here? It's been this way for 4 web galleries so far.

Dave:
Try using the Tell a Friend option in iPhoto's toolbar instead of the option of the online gallery. It will look like this except I've changed the font and color of the lower URL line which you can do with this method.

• Using Simpleviewer Pro for Web galleries creation

For once, I don't have a problem, I just want to share a wonderful experience with Simpleviewer Pro. Simpleviewer (the free version) comes with LR and is pretty fast and easy to figure out. However, I went and bought the Pro version for $35 and found it much more powerful and faster. It does everything I wanted from a Gallery generation application. I installed it on my desktop but when I tried the same installation on the Laptop, it crashed and told me it cannot install. After emailing techsupport I got an answer virtually in hours. It gave me specific steps to try to resolve the problem and asked to be kept posted on developments. I tried a second time, unsuccessful again and emailed svBuilder-PRO with copies of the error messages I was getting. They got back to me right away : the problem was actually a WINDOWS problem, where an old version of Adobe AIR could not be unistalled to put the new one (Simpleviewer pro uses Adobe AIR). My email had a link to a Microsoft support site which had a Microsoft FIXIT executable. I downloaded and ran the FIXIT, it fixed the problem and svBuilder - Pro installed correctly.
In two words, this software is fast, powerful and elegant, it gives me everything I need for WEB Galleries creation and I would highly recommend it to anybody trying to do (or help doing) a WEB site.

Here's the appropriate language relating to this
d) Soundtrack Pro. You may use the Apple and third party audio file content (including, but not limited to, the built-in sound files, samples and impulse responses) (collectively the “Audio Content”), contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original soundtracks for your film, video and audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual audio files may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound files or music beds.
It mentions that you can distribute your audio projects, so that might seem to indicate that the answer is yes. The language is clearer in regard to synchronized music to picture, or audio for broadcast or other distribution.
+Personally I see a gray (grey) area here . . . what about if I took a piece of stock music from the audio content and wrote lyrics to it and called it a song. Can I claim sole authorship of that . . . the agreement seems to indicate yes, but that doesn't scan to me.+
Anyway, i think if you're talking about writing a song using loop content, I'm pretty sure the answer is yes you can sell the resulting creation. _But I'm no lawyer_. It's probably open to debate.

• Web galleries showing in iweb after updates for anyone?

Wondering if anyone has tried and be successful publishing a web gallery from Aperture 2 and having it show up in the Iweb insert menu.
I get Iphoto galleries showing up, but not Aperture. The files are on the idisk.
thanks

I too have just discovered that web galleries created in Aperture show up on the web, but do not show up on the insert menu under iWeb. This is bad because I'm creating blog entries as we speak, and cannot insert recently created galleries into them. Any solutions anyone?

• MacBook Pro says its connected to wifi but doesn't work(or goes super slow)when the wifi works for everyone else Help!

I have recently gotten a MacBook Pro (through my highschool so it is monitored by them) and ever since I brought it home it's been having wifi connection problems. It says the wifi is working fine, it shows full bars, but when I try to connect to the Internet it acts like there is only one bar or no bars. Although every one and a while I can get a great connection but it lasts for about 10 minutes. This I do not get because the wifi works perfectly fine for everyone else in the house and for our phones too. So if anyone else could help me I would be soo happy. Thanks.

I have had the same issue and searched the forums and found nothing that helped. I contacted apple support and this is what they told me to do:
First we’ll do the SMC reset
1.) Shut down the Mac and connect to power source.
2.) Unplug external devices, flash drives, external monitors, external HD (Keep the Mac plugged into power source)
3.) Hold down “Shift” + “Control” + “Option” (On the left side of the keyboard) + Power key for 30 seconds.
*The Mac should remain powered off during the reset, the LED on the MagSafe Adapter may change colors.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Awesome, now let’s reset the NVRAM
1.) Locate these keys “Command”, “Option, “P” & “R”
2.) Power on your Mac
3.) Immediately press and hold all 4 keys “Command” “Option” “P” “R”
4.) Listen for 2 boot chimes and then release.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Posting this here in the hopes that it will help someone else still searching for an answer.

• Making Bridge web galleries searchable

I'm sure this will have been asked before on the forum, but after scrolling thought the first four pages of topics I can't see it raised anywhere.
Is there an easy way of adding a search engine that will interrogate a file's metadata when creating a web gallery in Bridge?
The company I work for is looking to set up a gallery of 2,000 graphics to begin with, which will probably grow to 10,000 graphics before too long.
Bridge is great because it converts Illustrator vector files to jpegs (the organisation is Microsoft Office-based, and most staff cannot read vector files). But obviously the resulting gallery has to be searchable. It seems odd that Adobe hasn't included this option as standard when creating web galleries.
I'm a graphic designer by trade, and although I can do a little bit of coding I'm certainly no expert in that area. So I do need a simple solution.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice offered and sorry if I'm bringing up an old chestnut again.

It sounds like your html files are assigned to fireworks instead of safari. Open your file browser (windows explorer or mac equivelent) find an html file and look at it properties. In windows this is where you can change the app that is the default. I am not sure how on a MAC, but hopefully it will jog your memory or someone else will answer.

• Small changes to a web gallery slows iPhoto down to a crawl

I am using iPhoto 7.1.1, the latest update at this time. I have a large number of web galleries published through iPhoto to .Mac. The latest is about 150 photos from Christmas. I originally published without changing the photo titles. I have been correcting that plus adding a few more photos. Any small change in a web gallery seems to be immediately published and that slows iPhoto down to a crawl. I have the fastest connection I can get from ATT's UVerse. Is there any way to turn off this immediate updating so I can make all of my changes then publish after that? I have been searching through the help files, Apple support, and the web and can't find anything. One poster on this site said his updates don't transfer until he hits the publish icon to the right of the gallery name. That's not how mine works. It automatically publishes at the slightest change. Others seem to say it is automatic for them as it is for me. It really is almost impossible to make lots of small changes to a large gallery (like adding descriptive titles) the way it is now.

This "feature" also makes my nuts. I hate software that does these "automatic" processes, without a way for the user to alter them, or turn them off. I have been trying to change file names in one album that contains a number of images drawn from other albums that have been published to my web gallery. I do not wish the names to be changed in every album, nor in the web galleries published. But it all seems to be automatic. The name change first is applied automatically to the other albums that contain that image, and then automatically changed in every web gallery.
I have posted these comments here: iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback.
I suggest everyone that is concerned with these issues do the same. If we are lucky, Apple will soon update the software. These changes seem so easy to achieve one would think, and they would add a lot of control to the use of the program.
