Web Gallery Creation - time

I'm trying to create a web gallery from a small shoot using my Nikon D70s - 6MB NEF files.
There are 94 images for my client to make their selections from, I'm only exporting medium quality files.
The original estimated time was 27 minutes, but it's now been an hour and the estimated time for completion is 21 minutes (up from a low of 14 minutes half an hour ago).
Is Apple for real? Do they really expect pros to twiddle their thumbs for 2 plus hours (if I'm lucky at this rate) after every shoot. I wouldn't mind if I could use Aperture in the meantime (like they implied in their sales pitch) but this feature is simply not worth the trouble...

Yep!
I did some comparisons between Aperture on a 15" 1.5 GHz PowerBook and a DP 2 GH G5 PowerMac each had 10 D2X NEFS which ran through both Aperture and Bridge/CS2/ACR
You can guess that the results were not stellar.
The Brigde/ACR on the Powerbook was as fast as Aperture on the PowerMac. Yeah I know... RIDICULOUS!
10 D2X nefs, equal settings(including sharpening) on each file.
Test: Time the export/saving 10 full sized JPGs(level 10) on both systems under both Aperture and Bridge/ACR
In Aperture, stamp the same settings to 10 nefs, wait for the changes to appear on each thumbnail, then select the 10 nefs, and select export versions.
In Bridge, paste the camera raw settings to the 10 nefs, wait for the thumbnails to show changes(building cache), select the 10 nefs, open ACR under Bridge(not CS2) by pressing CMD-R, in the ACR dialog, select all images on the left, click "Save 10 images".
PowerMac: G5 dual 2 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, X 800 XT vid card, Aperture library and Bridge cache on separte SATA 7200 RPM internal disk
PowerBook: 15" 1.5 Ghz, 1.5 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, and 80 GB disk
Aperture results:
PowerMac: 2:07
PowerBook: 5:06
Bridge/ACR results:
PowerMac: 1:18
PowerBook: 2:12
As you can see Aperture requires 2x the time to export/save when compared to Bridge/ACR.
Further, it is amazing that the Powerbook could plow through the images in Bridge in the same time it took the Powermac to export the Aperture images...
Hmmm, then that would imply the best money is on a Powerbook running Bridge/ACR/CS2?
Sooooo, if you can cull/sort the images and apply raw settings in Aperture three to four times as fast as in Bridge then it is a wash...

You can select images in bridge and produce an html web gallery out of them, but what about a flash video website?

You may want to post on the Bridge Forum when you have problems with that application.

  • Problem creating web gallery

I ran into a problem with web gallery creation.  The problem is that LR uses the image file name, without the extension, to create the small images and the html documents.  No image renaming is done.
Now I am trying to create a website, and conflicts occur between files generated by different cameras, and even by the same camera since because it restarted counting at 0000 several times over the years.  The resulting website is useless.
Obviously, i could work around the issue by exporting the images, renaming them, and then re-importing.  This takes hours!!
So please, can Adobe do some file renaming while generating a web gallery???   Hope someone listens!!!

    **Update**
Working now. We were doing javascript:; browser pop to this page and if the Height of the window exceeded the ie6 laptop screen size the flash gallery would fail to work. When I changed the height to 690 (from 800) it worked fine. Go figure...
Is this a known flash issue that I was out of loop on? Do we need to keep window sizes in mind?
I have LR 1.3 and IE6 is not showing thumbnails on my flash gallery output.
Also note that I had to remove the xml doc type (line 1) from the index file or I would get a parse error on our server (it worked fine locally and on my leopard MAMP websrv testing environment.)
Seems to be working on all other browser/platforms but IE6 is by far the most popular for our website.

  • Is there a way to create a web gallery which generates watermarked images in Photoshop CC?

    Your Case Number:0184430495
Adobe informed me that web gallery creation is no longer available in Bridge CC.  I was told to download Lightroom for this capability.  When I tried to do that, I was told that my operating system 10.6.8 is not compatible.  I use 10.6.8 to use third party software.  Will Adobe return this feature to Bridge?  If so, please add a watermark feature (such as the one that Dr. Russell Brown created for CS6)  Also, please include more html5 galleries or galleries that will appear on multiple kinds of devices.  Thank you.

  • Web Gallery Captions get lost

Love web gallery - spend time typing in all the captions to inform family and friends, wait for the upload, watch all the "pending" signs disappear, and then see the captions disappear once it's on the Gallery site.
    Any ideas?
    What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to speak to my machine nicely?
    Please help - thanks.
    Julian

    Julian:
Others have had that problem also. A work around is to use this script to write the comments to the Title. The title is displayed in the web galleries. When you want the file names back just use the "Photos->Batch Change->Title to File Name" menu option.
NOTE: Before compiling the script in Script Editor remove the one occurrence of the character Å in the script.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Web Gallery Dreamweaver / Photoshop

Just been looking at Photoshop web gallery creations, but this only refers to creating a website (Photo Gallery), is there anyway I can obtain/use a web gallery as a web page on my site??.

You can try lightbox or simple viewer. Is this what you're looking for?

  • PSE 5 Web gallery

    Question about the web gallery.
I am trying to show my flv files, which it does just fine. The problem is that it resizes them, so they look grainy. My flv's are 400x300. I set the video max size to match in the gallermaker.xml file, but they still show up bigger in the final output and thus grainy. I did notice that if I resize my browser, the video size changes also. Ive also tried changing different settings in the different xml files, but nothing helps. I even changed the width and height attributes in the group.xml file.
Is there a way to fix this? Maybe turn off scaling somehow?
    Jay

The photos are all there. They show up in Organizer web gallery creation view. It is when I preview in the browser that the last three disappear. The published web gallery is also missing them.
I just went into the resource folders in the web gallery and all 8 photos are there but I noticed that the last 3 photos all have file names with a number sign(#) in them. I suspect that is what is messing things up.
I will try renaming and report back.

  • Using CS6 for web mockup creation? Tips on how-to's

    Hi
Pretty new to Photoshop and running CS6.
I'm looking for a workflow to create web mock-ups in the most efficient and easy way.
What Im looking for is to take an existing web frontend page and tweek it with new sections and components like buttons/menus/new text areas, images etc etc....
are there any specific tools or "web galleries" to use for this purpose that I can incorporate into CS6....not really sure how to form this question in the right way but I hope this sort of exaplined my purpose....creation of good-looking web page design (even if it will jsut be in .psd format)
Any help, tips & tricks would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    //Helmut

A web gallery is many web pages you need more then a layered template psd. Templates are more suited for Collages rather then web Galleries.  In the bridge output module there are some caned web galleries provided by Adobe there just not very good or a not easy to customize.
There are many web gallery creation tools available on the web some free other cost. If you do a search you will find many. Some use Photoshop in the process they are Photoshop Scripts. Most have some options to customize some features. None that I know of give you complete freedom to create whatever you want. They support their web gallery designs where you can customize features within the designs.

  • Web gallery synchronisation uploads all images each time.

It is just me, or is web gallery synchronisation clunky ? It seems to upload ALL images whenever a change is made (e.g., if I add an image to a web gallery, it uploads all of them again).
    Paul

I wonder if an upload is taking place. I see it taking much less time. I believe that the file is being checked for changes, and if the file is unchanged, then Aperture moves on to the next file. This is only a guess, but seems like a reasonable explanation.
For my part, I made synchronization manual. With an old mini, it is cumbersome to wait for sync everyday. Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto crashing on creation of new Web Gallery.

Hi I tried to create a new Web Gallery, and iPhoto just quits right away, 4 times same thing. Im running the latest update, and cant figure out a different way to make a gallery...
    Any help?

Anything in the Console (Applications/Utilities/Console)? If you get the dialog that tells you iPhoto quit, you have the option to report the crash. I believe you can copy that log and post that here too.
(But also submit it so if there isn't a simple answer, at least Apple knows of it)
It's usually a long shot, but some of the experienced people on the board might be able to tell you where or why it could be happening. Doesn't hurt to try.

  • Web Gallery: image adjustments during creation of web gallery?

I've noticed that when my images get uploaded to a web gallery, they look very different: it looks like they've been gamma'ed up, desaturated and had sharpening applied. It's quite a significant difference and it don't look good. I checked to see if it was a standard mac/pc gamma correction going on, but it didn't seem like it.
Any thoughts on why this is happening and what I can do to stop it?
    thanks,

I just did some digging and it seems that this washing out only happens on images that I've edited, but the way the image appears in the web gallery is WAY different than the way it appears in my iPhoto library. Perhaps when it's creating the image for the web gallery it's just not making my edits accurately?
Any thoughts on how to fix it? It's such a bummer.

  • Customizing Flash Web Gallery in Photoshop

Hoping someone can help me... I'm at my wits end.
I am doing a Flash Web Gallery in Photoshop, the second kind where the images "morph" into horizontal/vertical shapes.
I need to make a couple of customizations to it:  First, I would like the TITLE of the image (or description) to appear the whole time on the gallery, NOT just when you hover over it with your mouse.
I need to make the text larger for the titles.
I would like to make the little Controller images on the lower right corner BIGGER, they are so small one can barely see them.
I was able to download the flash source file but my Flash expertise is limited and it looks like all they are are movie clips, you can't acutally MANIPULATE items in there.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
    Thanks!

My advice is to get a 3rd party gallery creation program.
Many are free and most are better than Adobe's half-baked offerings.

  • Web Gallery generation speed is unacceptable

Machine: DP 2 Ghz G5, 2 GB RAM, 160GB disk, 250 GB disk, 20" Cinema Display
Aperture has it's library on the second SATA disk to improve I/O, likewise CS2 uses that disk for it's scratch and Bridge cache.
Task: Generate web gallery, Aperture(Proofs template), Bridge/ACR/CS2(white dots on black background)
-Raw images: Only 10 D2X NEFS
-In both apps all NEFS were tweaked and sharpening applied.
    -Thumbnails 200x300
    -Enlarged image(after clicking thumbnail) 750x499, JPG quality: Aperture(high) CS2(level 8)
On Aperture I selected "Export Web Pages", not "Publish to .mac"
Both Aperture and CS2 wrote the gallery web dir(under different names) to the same second internal SATA disk.
    Aperture took 4:30
    Bridge/ACR/CS2 took 59 seconds
    Once again Adobe buries Aperture.
This is only one of the many problems with this app.
Note to Apple, if you want to be the leader then you need to beat the leader.
NO, I do not work for Adobe.

For me, the speed of Web page gallery creation isn't of great consequence. I don't make them that often. The speed of comparing images, selecting the pick from a stack, cropping, adjusting color, and so forth is much more important for me.
I've found the selecting tasks to be much faster in Aperture than in iView Media Pro III, which I also use and like. I also use Photoshop all the time (I'm still on CS1) and think its the best program that I've ever used. But cropping and adjusting colors are much easier and more facile on Aperture.
I wouldn't know how to conduct your test. Would I use the automation features to create the Web gallery, loading each image off of the hard disk in turn? If so, first I'd have to convert each to DNG. Then I'd have to adjust each on the fly. That makes no sense. So would I do the adjustments and then save out in PSD or TIFF format? Then the files are much bigger, so the disk i/o makes the test unfair for Photoshop and more about hard drive speed than anything the Apps are doing.
I recognize that other people are having speed problems with Aperture, even in areas where it works well for me. I have tricked out hardware which certainly helps my experience.
If I was making lots of Web image galleries every day, maybe the speed difference of a few minutes vs a few seconds would bother me too. I've noticed that the Web output from Aperture is very sharp with no noticable fringing. I think it looks great. But I also see that adjusting that sharpness isn't an option with Aperture. That hasn't annoyed me yet, but it might on some future project (like a portrait that wouldn't be as flattering if so crisp).
