Web gallery is no longer date sorted?

Hi all,
Hopefully this should be an easy one for you to help me with...
- I have a web gallery via iPhoto '08 of my twins for all the relatives to see. If I look at the web gallery album in iPhoto, the photos are sorted in date order which I have selected to do so.
- However, if I access this gallery over the web the photos are not in date order, so now I have pictures of my little ones at 3 months, intermingled with photos of them at birth. All very confusing for the eager viewers.
How do I fix this so it will always be sorted by date?
Thanks in advance.
Dan.

Dan:
Yes, there's a "quirk" in that. Here's how to get around it. Sort the gallery in iPhoto by date and then move one photo to another position and then back again. Hit the publish button and the online gallery should update to the order that's in iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Web gallery links no longer work from iWeb

I previously added links directly to my web gallery photo albums as external links in iWeb. This no longer works. For instance, I used to be able to send people to a specific web gallery album by linking to gallery.mac.com/username#xxxxxxx where xxxxxxx is the number of the album. This recently stopped working however. iWeb seems to change the # sign to %252. Anyone know what happened?

FWIW here is some info I gleamed from various sites on naming sites.
    Renaming a website or webpage
You can rename a site or page at any time by double-clicking its name in the site organizer and typing the new name.
The page name appears at the top of the visitor's browser.
The site name is included in the website's address (URL):
    http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]/iWeb/[SiteName]
Renamed pages and sites (as well as the site's URL) change online the next time you publish.
IMPORTANT: If you rename a site, previously created links to your site won't work; be sure to notify your visitors, especially your blog or podcast subscribers.
Browsers convert spaces in site names to "%20." To avoid these symbols, use an underscore, hyphen, or some other character instead of a space. Also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.
Other characters aren't recommended for use in website names, including: forward and backward slashes (/ \), brackets ([ ]), tilde (~), exclamation point !, question mark (?), "at" sign (@), number sign (#), dollar sign ($), ampersand (&), asterisk (*), colon (:), equal sign (=), comma (,), and double quotation marks ("). Using these characters may result in names with strange numbers in them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Web Gallery gone from iPhoto

Someone uploaded some pics to my web gallery, which is current online, and now that web gallery is no longer present in my iPhoto. If I go in to Preferences, Web Gallery - it's still listed there. But it's not under WEB GALLERY on the left side of library.
    All upgrades have been done.

in the preferences what are the Sync settings? Try clicking sync now.
if that does not work then try going to your gallery on your iDisk (finder ==> iDisk ==> web ==> sites ==> _gallery ==> find the gallery you want - by number) and see if you can drag the photo to your desktop (and then import into iPhoto

BTW - the most common way to lose contact with a web gallery is to make changed to it in iPhoto WHILE it is syncing with your iDisk - avoid doing this until Apple fixes this bug

  • IPhoto 7.1 won't post new web gallery

Since I upgraded to iPhoto 7.1, it won't post toany new web galleries. Here's exactly what happens:
After I create the new web gallery in iPhoto it shows the spinning icon next to it as if its succesfully uploading it but it stops in seconds and nothing happens. If I try to click the refresh button next to the gallery it disappears from the list. Help?
I find this to be unacceptable as I payed good money for both .mac and iPhoto.

Wow! I hope Apple is reading this. Just tried to post a new album to my web gallery, which worked perfectly yesterday before the upgrade that I installed this morning, and now the web gallery button no longer works. It seemed to work until I looked at my previously posted gallery. On the web it showed a greater number of photos installed but only the photos from my earlier gallery were there. When I looked back at iPhoto, the web gallery icon at the bottom had disappeared. So I closed and opened iPhoto again, the gallery icon re-appeared. Tried to upload my album again. Stalled. The icon disappeared. BUGGY!!!! How do I remove the upgrade?

  • Why is it impossible to sort your images then post to web gallery - sorted?

I have been messing with Aperature for days and am really dis-enchanted. I have gone through and organized over 700 images in separate categories only to find #1 - when I try to upload the images in a Web Gallery or Web Journal the images cannot be uploaded from a Stack. #2 - if I unstack them first they all go back to the order of when they are uploaded. Also when using the sorting button - it is supposed to put them in order first to last or last to first...depending on which way the button is selected - This does NOT work everytime. Sometimes when you click on the button it does nothing to the order of a group.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. There must be a way to organize your images in stacks and then upload in that same order - hello apple - are you listening?

    hi.
"this is rediculous" — not quite. the problem may be your understanding of stacks. they're not groups. they're compilations of similar/near-identical photos, usually shot in rapid fire. the idea is that when you shoot several near-identical photos, you can easily 'group' them, sort them in terms of quality and then choose the best one (the 'Stack Pick') to represent the stack wherever it might be used.
for example, when I'm photographing a bird, I don't normally get a second chance to photograph the same bird in the same situation or pose. the depth of field is extremely short and focus can be difficult. camera shake may also affect my images. therefore, I typically take 8 or more photos of the same bird in the same place in less than 10 to 15 seconds (if the bird is kind enough to stay that long; they normally stick in one place for only 1 or 2 seconds). I will typically only need one of these, so I stack the images and choose the best one; i.e., the stack's Pick. I will rarely if ever have to look at the other photos in the stack again.
if you want to group images from an association point of view, don't use stacks. use albums. albums created within a project will allow you to do exactly what you hope to do. sorting and uploading multiple images from the same group will work. you can even sort manually.
"Also when using the sorting button - it is supposed to put them in order first to last or last to first...depending on which way the button is selected - This does NOT work everytime"
if you're using stacks, the Pick of the stack is used to represent the stack and is therefore used to sort the images in your collection; ie, the position of the whole stack in your collection of images is determined by the Pick of the stack.

  • Exif Data Not Showing Up in Web Gallery?!

Some of my exif data is missing from my web gallery! f-stop, shutter speed missing.. check it out:
    http://gallery.mac.com/johnnymcclung

Actually it is showing "max aperture" but not the actual aperture I shot at - I now can see shutter speed... but the aperture I used for the shots aren't showing up - either way, I had fun shooting the eclipse last night!

  • Photoshop CS3 web gallery bugs(?); vanishing metadata, bad sort order

Running OS 1.5.4 on 24" Imac, I'm attempting to generate a "horizontal slideshow" from bridge-selected files in Photoshop CS3.
[Sounded like the problem in this post: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5a9fe/2 but on re-reading I've decided it's different so I'm giving it it's own thread, with more detail...]
    Here's my experience:
    1) Description and title show up for a second on the first slide, then revert to just the blank template on that and all subsequent slides (title: [blank] description: [blank]....
Hitting "refresh" produces the descriptive metadata for a tantalizing moment, then it' s back to the blank template for this and all subsequent slides. It does this both for Safari and Firefox.
You can view this behavior in a slideshow at http://oasisdesign.net/projects/earthtoilet/
If it asks for a password, use---
    user:earthling
    pass: draf1 )
    "preserve all metadata" is checked.
I've tried all combinations of checking/ unchecking "title, description, filename" for labeling...also, making slideshows with just one or two slides to reduce the chance that it's a weird character issue of the type some other folks have experienced...
    2) additionally, the web gallery is not respecting the manual sort order in Bridge, which is the source of the files. The help files say the slideshow should follow the manual sort order in Bridge.
    3) Finally, metadata entered in bridge metadata tab sometimes vanishes, sometimes metadata entered in file info wouldn't show in the metadata tab.
    Thanks for your help!!
    Art
BTW, here's the related issues I found:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5a9fe/2
...After some investigation, I found that the descriptions were disappearing only for photos that had a Return / Line Break in the description. If you go back and make sure all of your descriptions are a single line, it works fine....
=Don't have line breaks, nor "and" nor &...
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bff9de1/0
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bd62ec3/0

OK...here's the hack I used to get around what I'm now totally convinced are program bugs and shortcomings relative to advertised functionality, for anyone else who has to deal with this, followed by my (suggested fixes to Adobe)...
    1) Sort everything the way you want in bridge.
    2) Make meta descriptions w/o weird characters (a warning here would be helpful)
    3) Use "batch rename," with "copy to another folder" to give the images totally plain vanilla, DOS-style file names (001.jpg, 002.jpg...). This solves most filename issues and the works around web gallery's failure to recognize bridge sort order in one go. Note that you can irrevocably screw up the names of all your original files if you're not very careful to COPY at this step.
([a] make the bridge sort work directly, as advertised, por favor. [b] add an error message or warning about file names such as 006-(2).jpg causing malfunction. A compassionate, low-effort short-term patch for Mac users of web gallery, especially since bridge generates that particular sort name itself invisibly and automatically if you move a file with the same name into a folder)
    4) Use "white on black" instead of bug-ridden "horizontal slideshow" (horizontal slideshow should be fixed or deleted from the next version...multiple slideshow options would be awesome, as they advance automatically at the max rate the user's bandwidth allows, a very attractive feature)
    5) Restrict all images to the same height so users can click *in the same spot* to advance the 200 images with less carpal tunnel (the advance arrow should *always* be in the same spot, for every web gallery, IMHO)
Web galleries are a fantastic tool for sharing information easily...I hope to see some evolution in those great automatic updates someday...

  • Meta data missing in Web Gallery

When uploading images to my web gallery Aperture generates small and medium size jpeg files of my images. These jpegs does not include meta data. Has anyone seen this too?
If I select to "Allow" "Downloading of:" (Optimized Images, Actual Size Images, Optimized & Master Images) then Aperture will generate large size jpegs that include meta data.
Can it be right that you have to upload and generate the larger optimized jpegs in order to show meta data in your web galleries?
I am running Aperture 2.0.1 and Leopard 10.5.2

It seams that others have seen the same minor bug or feature as outlined above. Question seams answered.

  • Why do have a long default Subject when sending picture to Web Gallery?

Why does Apple populate a long default Subject when sending a picture to Web Gallery? This is extremely annoying as the long Subject has to be deleted for each picture (Subject becomes the Pictures' caption in the Gallery) before entering a desired Caption.
Why not just leave the default Subject blank so we can add what we want? I have submitted this as both an enhancement and bug request to online Apple support. Just wanted to call it to others attention in case their was a workaround or so others could also submit it to support.
Not very user friendly having to tap 20+ delete keys before entering a Caption for each picture....

Just keep the delete key pressed down. It's faster.

  • Web gallery name created on export too .mac is too long - how do I shorten?

I cannot work out what the steps would be to reduce the eventual web address that I am given when I publish a web gallery from Apertue.. I want to put the address into a domain web forwarding so that I can give a short neat address for people to see but I cannot figure out how to reduce the .mac web gallery link address?
Can anyone help? Assume I am an idiot.. the clearer and more comprehensive the steps the better!
I have been messing about with batch change metadata settings for ages but can't see how to do this.. Thank you!

Apologies.. my advice may have been wrong.. it is a while since I figured it out.. trying to remember what it was I did..you do have to shorten that file name.. but it may not be the caption you need to change. I suspect I may have selected all the images.. then gone to meta data batch change and done something under the custom button which then applied to all images.
In my case I needed to get the web address for the gallery created from:
    http://homepage.mac.com/farish/Smartbins™%20Chewing%20Gum%20Bin%20and%20Cigarett e%20Bin%20Image%20Gallery/
    down to:
    http://homepage.mac.com/farish/Chewing%20Gum%20Bin%20Cigarette%20Bin/
I did manage it but can't quite remember how I did it.
I will keep playing and when I figure out what I did that worked will post again.
The web gallery name you choose affects how Google sees the site as when you publish the web gallery - the web gallery name can pop up in Google
It's quite difficult to figure out exactly what to do. If anyone else knows a definitive answer please advise!

  • Meta data & Exif data in MobilMe Web Gallery - where did it go?

I can't seem to get web gallery to publish the meta data with the photos. When you visit the web gallery website, clicking on the image thumbnail reveals options to click the "i" button which supposedly allows viewers to examine meta data & exif data.
I would be greatly appreciative if someone could confirm or disconfirm this issue for any web galleries they have created.
    Thanks in advance,
    CD

The only way that I get EXIF etc metadata to show up on the information page in web galleries is to enable downloading of images. This seems to do the trick in making the info page work. I have not tried disabling download in the settings, republishing, and seeing if the image metadata still displays. Just one more quirky thing about webgallery - what really stinks is there is no way to get Aperture to put downloadable images with an sRGB profile into a webgallery. Even if the original is an sRGB it converts the downloadable version to AdobeRGB.

  • Web Gallery Data preset?

Is it possible to preset the data for the web gallery fields? I realise there is a drop down for previously used terms, but it would be faster if I could save settings that will apply to every gallery (eg. contact name, mailto, web address etc.)
    Thanks

    David,
After you have everything set as you like it, click "Add" under "Template Browser" and give your new template a name. Ckicking on that will bring back all of your preset data each time you want to create a new gallery.

    There is undocumented and
absolutely unsupported way of adding formatting information into the Text Template Editor that will allow you to add line breaks and make the text bold etc.
    It uses the form:
    <ag:formatted><br /></ag:formatted>
    for line breaks and
    <ag:formatted><b></b></ag:formatted>
for bold. Just place your text or token in between the <b></b>
What ever appears between the<ag:formatted> tags HAS to be VALID XML or it will simply break. That is why the br tag has the trailing / on the end. This is the equivalent of <br></br>
I will make a text template as an example and post it later.

  • Flash (Photoshop) Web Gallery data

I have created a web gallery using Photoshop CS2 to allow my
clients to proof their images. From this gallery I want to allow
them to flag images they like then submit the selections to me via
email. Currently they are using the gallery just to view the
images. There is not a way to mark the images or to submit them via
email. The clients have to manually write down the file names, type
and email, and send it to me.
    1. Can the function of selection boxes be added to the web
gallery? I do not own the full flash program.
    2. Can the file names for the selected images be put into an
email to me using a submit button?
How are both of these task performed?
    Thanks

    1) Yes it can but you will need to modify the flash movie so
*someone* will need to know how to change the flash movie.
    2) Yes this is possible but you'll either need your flash
movie to talk to the server and have the server send the email or
figure out how to get Flash to use the client's mail program. They
may or may not have one installed. Here's a tutorial for the second
    option:
