Web Gallery Navigation

hoping one of you experts out there can shed some light on the subject for this aperture newbie...
i want to post several web galleries onto my mac account but with some navigation back to my (soon to be launched) iWeb site. this could be just a simple link back to the iWeb homepage url. what i don't want is the gallery to be a dead end - ie prevent the user from having to rely on browser back buttons etc..
in fact it appears from the aperture marketing that you can have very sophisticated linking between galleries but this just seem to exist - or am i missing something?
look forward to your help.
G5 & 12" Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

it really doesnt exist ... i went into the templates, created and saved my own to add new navigation functionality ...
this was so one could bounce around all areas of my site without having to rely on hte back buttons ...
i think i got all of 'em done ... but i always find (or am told) about another way to improve it, and then i just redo the template, but need to regen all web pages now ...
a side note, i noticed that on my pages in front of the copyright symbol, aperture is now adding a new weird character ... boo !!!

  • Web gallery navigation bar

I like being able to upload a designed web gallery but find that it really begs for a way to add a navigation bar to the top or bottom with predefined hotspots. I didn't want to break anything by editing the .html file in Dreamweaver and unfortunately don't have a hotspot addition tool in Contribute. This is the one important feature I have found lacking when trying to integrate a web gallery into an existing site.

With the version 1.0, and 1.1, I could make a navigation link to my existing home page in html templates by entering my web site domain address in both Contact Info and Web or mail Link fields to make it link back, but it will not work under the flash templates. I do not know whether Adobe is willing to make the change or is capable of making links for multiple albums created by using LR or we just have to find another software to create our web pages?
Hope we can find a fix soon!

  • Airtight SimpleViewer Web Gallery Navigation

Maybe I am missing something but I don't see a way to add any navigation to the Airtight SimpleViewer Web Gallery. Meaning, once you are in it, how do you get out? (ie - back to a galleries page or main page.) If it does not include navigation, then why bother?
    Thanks,
    Pat

There is one way around this problem. It's not pretty, and you need to know some HTML so use it.
You can edit the SimpleViewer index.html file directly. So you can add navigation links to that file directly. If you make changes to SimpleViewer index.html file those changes are applied always when you use that webengine. In Windows SimpleViewers HTML file can be found at:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.4\shared\webengines\simpleviewer.lrwebengine\index.html
    Few suggestions:
*You make all the changes at your own risk
*Backup files before you make any changes
*Do NOT use any wysiwyg editors (only plain text editors)

  • How do i incorperate the web gallery into my own web site?

I have a web site and i want to incorperate the web gallery created with Aperture in to it but i cant seem to get it right. I use fetch to upload and I renamed the "index.html" (from the aperture gallery) to a relevent link name but it just does'nt work.
Ive created the original web site with "Freeway 3"
I would be gratful if anyone could assist me.
    Kind regards

I might be wrong, but it seems to me that what you're doing wrong is not pointing your main site into the gallery's folder structure. That is, there's no need to rename the index.html file that inside the gallery folder created upon export; you just have to point your main site's home page (or whatever page you want to set up a link to your gallery from) to the index.html file in the gallery folder.
For example, let's say your main site's home page is at http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html, and you've exported your new gallery to a folder named newgallery. All you have to do is create a link in your main site's index.html that points to newgallery/index.html (actually, you only need to point to the folder newgallery, since browsers will look inside the folder for a file called index.html, or home.html, or index.php, or a few others). The gallery folder's structure provides all the images, links, navigation, etc., for the gallery, starting at it's index.html page, but changing the name of that file doesn't tell your main site's index page to go to it. In fact, it doesn't do anything at all.
I hope this helps, but if I've misunderstood your problem, please excuse this post.

  • IWeb Link to Web gallery

Hi everyone, my question is, is there a way to create a web gallery link in the link header of iWeb? I find this confusing that web gallery and iWeb don't have an option to link up. The gallery in iWeb is good, but don't have the same features that web gallery does. Since it is all hosted in the same place, it should be easy. I have HTML links in my blog now for it, but it isn't global. I have to insert an HTML link in each post. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.
    Jim

well i suppose the way it's meant to be done is to make a new blank page (calling it web gallery or whatever), press web widget and put in your web gallery albums one by one. each album has a little mini slideshow going on (and skims) and clicking on that takes you to the web gallery album proper. the problem (as far as i'm concerned) is that by making the web widgets you are making your own web gallery index page which is not as nice as the actual web gallery index page which you are bypassing.
or you could make a blank page (again calling it web gallery or whatever), leave it blank, publish it, and then edit the code so that it diverts straight to your web gallery index page. i don't know how to write code so i just copied the code on the index page and changed the destination to the web gallery address rather than the welcome page. this seems to work well. and if you know what you're doing i suppose to could also get the web gallery to open in another browser window.
or you could make a blank page (again calling it web gallery or whatever), and insert an html widget with code to divert to the web gallery. the difficulty with this is then when someone clicks on web gallery (or whatever you have called it) in the navigation menu, you then see the blank page for a fraction of a second.
anyway, i don't really know what i'm doing....i'm just trying stuff out!

  • Aperture web gallery - how to link back to main page from iWeb?

Okay, this may be simple, but I can't figure it out.
I created and uploaded a few web pages with iWeb to my dot.Mac account (web.mac.com/f8lee50) just to get a feel for things. I then created a web gallery with Aperture and uploaded it - naturally Aperture generated a URL for the gallery, which I set up as a link on my "Photos from Hawaii" page (the link is the word 'this' in the second paragraph, if you wawnt to look).
Okay, so this gets me from the "photos from Hawaii" page to the gallery, and within the gallery I can jump to the various images etc. But how does one navigate back to the "Photos from Hawaii" page from whence they came? Is there some sort of smart link that can be inserted (by Aperture?) that will send the viewer back to the main homepage? Or are the Aperture galleries essentially dead ends?

Richard, thanks for responding - I'll check that tutorial.
And thank you for the kind words, me100finn. I have not played with any variables as far as layout on the gallery (I did a bunch of stuff with the books, but the web gallery seems far less flexible) so I cannot answer your wuestion about the gray shadows.
Steve, thank you for the additional clarification (and the hint about spaces in URLs) - I guess what this all boils down to is that the web galleries from Aperture are not all that useful when they are meant to be a part of a bigger overall site. I'm not sure of what you meant when you say they have little forward or backward navigation in them - at least you can click on a thumbnail to get to an image, click next or previous or the grid to get back to the thumbnail galery. But, 'twould seem that hand coding HTML pages (the very thing I was hoping to avoid) is the only way to really integrate them. Given that, I gues the better approach will be just to use iWeb to load the images anyway.
Well, folks, thank you all for your answers. Until I do a re-do, I guess the back button is the way to go (which, for the record, I did sorta figure out myself

  • Importing a premade photoshop web gallery into flash

I am using a pc and I have made a photoshop web gallery is
cs2 and I wish to import the .swf file into adobe flash so I can
add a few navigation tools for example a home and a blog button but
when I import the .swf file into flash it says cannot open a
protected movie if someone could help me with this that would be
amazing because all I need a few damn buttons for my website to be
perfect thanks here is my website TomFowlerPhotography.com in case
you wanted to see what I was talking about thanks so much

I am not familiar with what PS CS2 creates, but you should
check whatever publish settings there are for that feature to make
sure that any file protection features are not enabled. That may be
    the source of the problem.

  • Adding Descriptions to Individual Photos in Web Gallery

I'm looking for an easy (or easier, considering my current method) way of creating a web gallery in lightroom that gives me the ability to add descriptions of individual photos.
What I've been doing thus far is limiting myself to only the galleries which separate the 'large' pictures in their own folder from the 'small' or 'thumb' photos. The small or thumb photos are the ones used for navigation. When one is selected, the large photo is displayed. I have been generating the galleries with Lightroom, opening up the Large directory, then opening every single large picture in Photoshop. Then I extend the canvas in the same direction for each photo, and write the description next to the photo and save it. That way, when you open the gallery, the thumbnails all look as they normally would, but when you click on them you're greeted with a large picture and a description.
This process is long, boring, and painstakingly annoying. I have done this for approximately 200 pictures thus far. The end result looks just fine, but my research into having Lightroom let me add visible descriptions has turned up nothing. Is there a template, engine, or anything else that will allow me to display pictures with some text next to it?

Haven't you looked at the Image Info panel in Web? You enter captions in Library, in its Metadata panel, and then tell Web to display them.

  • Embedding the .mac Web Gallery in another page?

    Hi all,
I love the way the .mac web gallery operates. It is a study in elegance and technology. However, it is NOT a good professional tool to show clients.
The fact that I cannot place my own navigation in the page, and that there is no graceful way to exit out of the gallery (other than to close the browser window) reduces its usefulness as a pro tool. My clients are confused the implementation.
So, I thought maybe I could embed the .mac web gallery in one of my own web pages. (this way I have all of the navigation to my site in place). Any thoughts about how I would accomplish such a thing?

.. I'm publishing the movie direct to the Web Gallery though iMovie '08.
ahh, I see.. no, I don't think so, that's possible from within iM08 .. I can not find a setting in its options.
in QTpro, there's an easy single-click solution for that, 'View/Set Poster frame', which adds a manual selected poster frame...
so, live with the preset, use iWeb or purchase QTpro seem to be your only options..

  • Web gallery use vs iWeb photo page

I really like the quick layout of the gallery. Would I be saving more iDisk space by using the Aperture Web gallery vs iWeb photo pages?? My guess is yes because I can control the size in page/detail and more when I save to my .mac. The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages.
My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture. This allows flexibility in adding/removing the galleries if space becomes an issue. I dont have much in iWeb so far and it takes a really long time to load as it is. I'd hate to bog down more with photo galleries.

    hello, me100finn
quote: "The only feature I would lose is the flow of navigation with the other iWeb pages."
You can always manually make a link to the other web pages which is what I do.
Just a few more added features to Aperture Web Gallery and Web Journal like an advance option feature to view & change the CSS or source code (without going to GoLive or Dreamweaver) or something along the lines of "would you like to add a link to another url?" would be tasty.
quote: "My thought was to create a main photo page with iWeb and have a small snapshot to hyperlink to the homepage.mac gallery created with Aperture."
Yup, my thoughts too. Maybe version 2 (i hope). I'm making the site first in Aperture (the heavy lifting) and then making minor additions and tweaks in GoLive.
To do this add the image, select it after the export in a wysiwyg html editor and point it to the proper linked url.

  • Can't navigate using back button from web gallery linked to iweb page

I have a web gallery that I enabled as a hyperlink to my iweb site. When I go to the gallery from a web page, I don't have any problem navigating to the gallery to view photos, but I am unable to navigate back to the web page using the "back" button. Instead I have to relaunch my web page in Safari; otherwise I would be "stuck" on the gallery unable to navigate to other web pages.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Load the gallery in your browser and copy the URL.
Create a text or image link and in the "Link" inspector select it as an eternal link.
Paste the gallery URL into the box and check "Open link in new window".
This way, the gallery window can be opened and closed but your original webpage will remain.

  • Is it possible to incorporate old photo albums into a Web Gallery?

I created 9 photo albums with the first iteration of iWeb. Now I'm using iWeb '08 and have been consistently adding new photos to an existing Web Gallery via iPhoto. But I'd like to import or add those older albums into the Web Gallery.
    Looking for answers...

Perhaps it would be better to just direct you to what I'm talking about.
Here is a URL to the site I maintain for our family photos and movies:
    http://www.Derners.ws
Along the top you will see navigation links to Web Galleries, Photo Albums and Movies. The Web Galleries were created as a result of iWeb 2.0 and the overall inclusion of the Web Gallery feature with iLife '08.
The Photo Albums and Movies however, were created back in iWeb 1. These are still online as standalone pages. What my original question alludes to are these Photo Albums. I want to pull the content of the Photo Albums and incorporate it into my Web Galleries, thereby having all of it in one place. So when I complete this process a visitor who browses Derners.ws will go directly to the Web Galleries. No more "Photo Albums", no more "Movies". Just one stop for viewing everything.
    Does that make sense?

  • Putting Bridge web gallery in html layout

I've created a flash web gallery in Bridge and I'm trying to
figure out how to insert it into my html layout. I'd like to keep
the header and navigation of my html layout, but in the "content"
section insert the flash gallery. I tried just putting the .swf
file in, but it can't find the images.
    thanks,
    Andrew

    The original photo gallery is:
    http://www.bethanyjanedavies.com/portfolio.html
You can see that the right side is chopped off
But I may have to compromise and use:
    http://www.bethanyjanedavies.com/portfolio2.html
This is a much wider page than the rest of the website, but I suppose you have to find a compromise that works!!
    Cheers

  • Editable Web Gallery

Is there any way of making the web galleries in Bridge CS4 more editable? ie I would like to add a navigation bar to the gallery so it integrates with the rest of my website? Or is there a way to create a webgallery that is not a html but an contect item to add within an already existing html?
Is there a better program to use? Ie old photoshop? or Fireworks?

EIther download a web gallery plug-in, or pay, or borrow, a good javascript slideshow option. I thought that after progress up through CS3 with web galleries (it still needed more customization) that Adobe would offer someting worthwhile in CS4, but not only have they changed the entire web gallery set-up, they've offered the blandest options possible. Seeing what's also going on in Premiere (4 dissolve transitions for Mac) and Flash CS4 (destroyed workspace), I really have to question the judgement of high management at the company...CS4 reeks to high heaven of cheapness...

  • Customizing Bridge CS4 Web Gallery to fit my website

Love the improved web gallery option in Bridge CS4...is there a way that I can make it work within my existing website? I'd like to have my top logo graphic and navigation bar appear above the gallery on the same page so that it integrates well.
    Thanks!
    Mark

Thanks...I figured out that if I open the Index.htm page in my web site editor (MSFT Expression Web) and add the images for the logo and nav bar at the top of the page, the code adjusts to move the gallery down. That's all I need to make it work...
