Web gallery re-sizing question

Hi all,
I am a wedding photographer and do all my editing and web galleries with LR. I burn a data DVD for clients with high-res JPG files, and I use LR to generate a web gallery that includes all their photos for them to more easily browse through the files on the data DVD.
I do this by making an HTML web gallery in LR, then replacing the directory of "large" image files (that are only 600px width or height) with high-res images (that are up to 3500px wide or high). This way clients can browse within a nice web gallery structure but still have the high-res files on the data DVD.
This method was working fine on LR 1.2 but since the 1.3 upgrade the generated CSS for the HTML gallery seems to have changed and it's messing with my technique of replacing the LR generated "large" files with my high-res files!
Looking at the CSS code, instead of specifying a width and height it now specifies a "maxSize". I havent come across this CSS code before, and it doesnt seem to be recognised by my Firefox or Mac Explorer browsers.
So what happens when I replace the 600px files with my high-res 3500px files is that the HTML page for the full preview photo shows a massively wide or high photo, ie it runs right off the screen. Previously it maintanied a max 600px width or height.
So does anyone know how to fiddle with the CSS to allow me to refer to the high-res images but allow clients to browse files as 600px?
Thanks

>Mac Explorer browsers
I don't know about the other problem, but I hope you are not honestly still using IE for mac. Microsoft retired this browser many years ago and it is not up to any current CSS standard. On Macs use Safari or Firefox. Preferably the first as it at least color corrects and considering most macs' screens are calibrated at the wrong gamma, Firefox will make all your images appear to have less contrast than inside Lightroom. Firefox will have icc profile support in version 3.0 which is currently in beta but that will take a while before it gets released in usable form.

  • Web gallery / Flash Player question

    Not sure where to post this, so I'll start here.
    In CS3 web gallery, after I create the gallery and it goes to view it, the browser (Safari) open up to a blank page with the following statment / links:
    Please upgrade your Flash Player.Already have Flash Player? Click here if you have Flash Player 6 installed.
    This is very irritating. I have Flash Player 10 installed. I still get this window each and every time.
    I tried FireFox3 and got the same outcome. In fact the only way to get the Web gallery to play is to click the link "click here if you have Flash Player 6 installed", then the web gallery opens. The other link, of course takes me to the Adobe Flash Player upgrade site, but as I said, I already have Flash Player 10 installed.
    There must be something in the html code that presents this page first. Does anyone know how to remove / stop this page from opening.
    thanks guys & gals.

    The file "flashobject.js" is a Javascript file that, among other things, detects what version of Flash is on the browser and complains if it doesn't like the current version. The code that actually detects the version looks at the first character to the left of the "." in the version number and decides that that is the version. If you are running version 10 of Flash that code decides you are running version "0" and complains.
    You can fix this by going to the function "getFlashVersion()" in the "flashobject.js" file and replacing the following line:
         flashversion = y.charAt(y.indexOf('.')-1);
    with this line:
         flashversion = parseInt( y.substr( y.indexOf('.')-2,2) );
    You will have to do this with each copy of the Web Photo Gallery you are using as well as with the copies of "flashobject.js" that are buried in your program files for Photoshop (assuming you use Photoshop to create your Galleries as I do).
    WARNING: Use this fix at your own risk. I am not a Flash developer, I just know something about JavaScript. I did test this with a Flash 9 and a Flash 10 player but not as extensively as Adobe would if they released this patch. If it doesn't work for you that is your problem.

  • Web gallery mod - htlm question

    a poster has a couple of gallery variations. one has a Parent INDEX button that is supposed to return to the calling page. if this works, i would be able to combine iWeb front end stuff and Aperture galleries. it works on his site (with a custom first page).
    when i do click on the field, i goes to another menu page in my .Mac Homepage space and not the iWeb page it is supposed to. this the code
    Parent INDEX
    any clues as to why this is happening.

    (sorry about the delay: been off taking pictures
    Because I like changing things around on my site, 'Parent INDEX' actually links to .. (two dots) which just means it goes one directory higher in the web space. This means that each Aperture album I export is a self-contained subdirectory and can be renamed or moved around, and it'll always go up a directory in my web space when 'Parent INDEX' is clicked (no matter which domain name the web space is on).
    I thought about linking it it '/' instead, but wasn't sure I would need to go more than one directory deep with my current stuff, and it could be a problem for people who want their images in a subdirectory of their main site, rather than on a totally different url.

  • Web Gallery with iPhone, two questions

    I now have three albums in my web gallery. When I take a picture with iPhone and go to upload to web gallery, only one of the albums shows up. Why not the other two?
    Second question: i successfully sent the photo to that one albumb web gallery, and sure enough, it shows up when I view it in my web browser. But it was only a test and I want to delete it. How do I do that? Because when I view that album in iPhoto, the picture I uploaded from my iPhone isn't there.

    Phil Rogers,
    To upload to the Web Gallery your iPhone sends it via email. Make sure "Allow uploads via Email" is selected in the Web Gallery settings.
    The little "radio waves" icon next to the Web Gallery in iPhoto 7.0.1 is clickable. Clicking on it will cause iPhoto to resync the Web Gallery between .Mac and the computer.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Web gallery questions for 3.0

    I can't figure out how to upload a gallery to my web site. I hit the upload button, I have my password and username in there. I'm not sure, but I think to get it to the right place on my gallery, I have to do the custom settings, and put it in a sub folder.
    Prior to this, I've been putting my galleries up on my site with Dreamweaver CS, where I have a page called "My Pictures". People can scroll through there, find their event, click on it, and see the photos. For me to achieve that, I put the gallery into a web on my computer, in a folder called "galleries". Then I would use Dreamweaver CS with the "My Pictures.htm" page, to post the event name, then drag the target to the proper gallery,
    So it only stood to reason, that within Lightroom, I would put my web site's address, without the www. in front of it, as I would in Dreamweaver, followed by /www/folder.
    No matter what I do, or variation I've tried, even without all that, and trying to load the gallery to simply my web site, it keeps coming up with "An error occured sending the file. Access was denied". I know the web has plenty of space available, so that's not the problem. Any suggestions? I'm using the proper name and password.
    The 2nd problem, is that I can't even save the gallery, to the folder on my computer! This is a back up, in case I can't upload the gallery via Lightroom. I tried to use "export", the tab next to "upload", and it won't do a thing. I aim it to the right folder and hit save, but nothing happens. If I go to the drop down list under "File" on the top left of the screen and hit export, it will simply save the photos to my web in full 8x10 images, but it won't save it as a functional web gallery, with web sized photos and thumbnails. Only as photos, that's it. If I can save it to the web on my computer, as a web gallery, then I can upload it using Dreamweaver CS.
    What is going on???? Why won't anything work???

    Anthony, I was excited to see this simple answer. But I cannot find the icon with the "T" in it to which you refer. I have a web gallery published. I would love to show caption and keywords. But I can't seem to do that. And on the gallery page, once you click on an image, and then Info, then you get to see the caption along with all the iptc info which I don't need to show.
    Just above my viewer window in aperture are only the standard icons like inspector, import, new, email, view, full screen, etc. I can see the web gallery settings but there doesn't seem to be this kind of control in there.

  • Question:  How to edit and/or delete photos uploaded to web gallery?

    My Dad uploaded some photos to my web gallery without renaming the photos. Is there any way I can go in and edit and/or delete these photos? Sorry if it's a dumb question... I'm new to iLife '08 (really new to iLife in general)... and for the life of me can't figure out how to edit and/or delete these photos (without deleting the whole library).
    Thanks for any help!
    Ciao ~ Louie

    Guess I just answered my own question.
    For anybody else that may be wondering...
    From within iPhoto there is a "WEB GALLERY" tab in the left side menu. There you will see the name of your web gallery with a little icon that looks like an antenna. If you click on that icon... it will sync your web gallery photos that have been uploaded by other users into iPhoto. You can then edit and/or delete the photos within iPhoto and the edits will automatically change on the published web gallery (may depend on sync preferences... mine changed automatically).

  • Web Gallery Questions

    Sometimes, when I add photos to my Web Gallery, they remain in perpetual pending mode and never actually show up on the Web gallery, even though they are in my iPhoto Web Gallery Album. I can't seem to solve this unless the only answer is to delete and reload the entire web gallery??? I have deleted the pending photos and reloaded them but they stay in pending mode forever and never show up on the actual web gallery.
    How do I, as the owner of my gallery, access photos other users have uploaded and edit them, such as editing the title? I do not see these new photos in my web gallery album in iphoto despite them showing up when I go to the gallery via the browser.
    Can you upload, as a visitor to some else's web gallery from your own iPhoto or do you have to drag the photo out to the desktop so you can access it from the upload dialog. The upload dialog does not seem to have a photo browser, just as normal open dialog.

    Mark:
    I don't have an answer to your problem but do want to warn you against subscribing to your gallery to get those added photos. If you do you'll be in danger of replacing your full sized original files with the 800 x 600 files that the gallery uses.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Question about the "Create Web Gallery" function in Bridge

    I created a beautiful Web Gallery using Bridge's built-in function which creates a Photoshop Web Gallery.
    Everything works great except for one thing. When I click the "E-Mail Feedback" button, Apple Mail loads and creates blank e-mail message. This is all good, but for some reason the address line is loading up with data instead of just an e-mail address. I was hoping someone versed in html could tell me what I'm doing.  The source code in ThumbnailFrame.html looks like this:
    function sendFeedback(picName) {
    checkForUnSavedChanges(picName);
    var prefix = "mailto:[email protected]";
    var name = null;
    name = prompt("Enter Your Name:", "Your Name");
    if (name) {
    prefix += "subject=" + escape("Feedback from " + name);
    prefix += "&body=";
    var str = ""
    for (var i in feedback) {
    str += i + " ~~ \n";
    str += (feedback[i].approved == true) ? "Approved ~~ \n" : "";
    str += (feedback[i].other == true) ? "Other ~~ \n" : "";
    str += (feedback[i].comments != "") ? ("\nComments:\n" + feedback[i].comments + " ~~ \n") : "";
    str += "____________________________________________\n\n";
    The address line in the Apple Mail message looks like this:    [email protected]=Feedback from Paul Kirtley&body=
    I want it to look like this:  [email protected]
    By looking at the source code above, can someone tell me how I can make an adjustment to keep "subject=Feedback from Paul Kirtley&body=" out of the address line?
    Thanks!

  • A few Web Gallery Questions

    1) I have an Event with 49 photos I'm trying to upload to the Web Gallery. It seems it will upload only one & then stop. I see nothing that says pending or indicates it's still uploading. I've tried a few times with the same results
    2) The one picture it does upload, uploads at the same high res quality in the event. Is there a simple way to upload resized pictures like 800x600. Especially if I'm not concerned with viewers downloading for reprint

    Do you mind posting up what your solution was? I'm curious.

  • Web gallery question

    OK, in LR1.x, if you select a series of images in Library and then jump to the Web gallery, it creates a gallery that includes only those images you have selected, not the entire library.
    When I do this in LR 2, (Mac), it insists on making a gallery with all the images in the library.
    What has changed? Is something broken? Or just a new way to do it?
    DN

    It's the template that is used to create the default Lightroom HTML Gallery. Actually there are three files that cause the problem, head.html, detail.html and grid.html - That's in LR 1.x - I've only looked at the LR2 head.html, and it has new problems.
    Most of the old bugs are still there - all they did in LR2 was to change the document type declaration, and that fell foul of the XHTML tags that they left in the code.
    See my earlier post at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c06417d/9
    To see the problems (not major, but they shouldn't be there) try a w3c validation of http://www.dcnicholls.com/haleakala/index.html (LR1.4, corrected templates) and http://www.dcnicholls.com/cambra/index.html (LR2, uncorrected Adobe templates) the first validates as XHTML Transitional, the second fails as HTML 4.01 Transitional.
    Validation service at http://validator.w3.org/
    I'll add to this post when I've edited the offending files, with details on what to fix (or the zipped corrected files, more likely).

  • Web Gallery Question - Any Metadata Control

    The new Web Gallery feature is very useful. I would like to know if there is a way to determine which metadata fields that get uploaded to the gallery. In our case, it would be nice to able to upload "Caption" information.

    It is not automatic - you need to add them to both the album and the web gallery at the same time
    Select the photos and drag them to each location (Album first since it starts an update when you drag them to the web gallery)

  • Questions about web gallery in iWeb - advise please

    I have succesfully republished my old iWeb with iWeb 08, but would like to have some advice before I experiment further. The iWeb Help says I can add a web gallery to iWeb using either "insert>web gallery", or a Web Widget. Can anyone explain the difference to me?
    My one Web Gallery has the neat new "carousel" effect and the other properties of this new function. Will any new photo albums that I publish directly from iWeb also have these properties, or are they unique to "web gallery"? The photo albums that I have republished with the new iWeb have the "download" and "subscribe" functions, but not the "carousel" and other niceties of Web Gallery. Thank you.

    There are two completely separate types of gallery, one being the .Mac web gallery and the other being the ones that you make in iWeb.
    Where iWeb mentions the "insert" or "Web Widget" it just means there two ways of doing the same thing. If you use the 'Insert' menu or the 'Web Widget' button you are able to choose one of your web galleries and insert an animated thumbnail which cycles through previews of your photos in that particular album. A visitor to your page is able to click on it to visit the specific album.
    So there you have it, you can either build photo albums in iWeb without some of the fancy Web Gallery features or you can use the .Mac Web Gallery. The iWeb albums will be tightly integrated with iWeb and your pages but you can still integrate the .Mac Web Gallery to a certain degree by using the 'Insert' or 'Web Widget' options.
    I personally plan to use both iWeb Albums and .Mac Web Gallery as they both have their merits for different projects I'm working on.

  • Iphoto 6 and web gallery question

    I'm a newbie, so please excuse me if this sounds stupid. I have iphoto 6 and have successfully made photo pages, but I can't figure out how to start a web gallery. (I want other people to be able to upload their photos.) I've tried looking at tutorials & stuff but they all have to do with iphoto '08. Am I just blind? I haven't subscribed yet to .mac, I'm still in the trial, does that make a difference? I'd appreciate any help,

    I was referring to the customer reviews of ilife '08 on the Apple website. You're right though, most of the negativity was regarding iMovie 7, and the majority of the iPhoto complaints were about their current published photo pages being "all messed up". That doesn't bother me so much because I want to start over with a new web gallery anyway. Also, a guy I talked to said that he was having trouble with iPhoto 7 and his photoshop work. (Like I said, I'm new to this, so my feeble brain lost the exact terminology he used.) I think I will trust what you say though and go ahead and buy it just because it looks so **** pretty. Thank you for your help!

  • A small question about iMovie8 to Web Gallery

    I have used all previous versions of iMovie and have had great results. I admit that I am stymied by iMovie8 and have kept using iMovie6 HD. The time has come for me to use both...
    Yesterday, I created a movie in iMovie6 HD and exported it in Quicktime, then uploaded it to my .Mac website. All worked perfectly.
    I now wish to take that same Quicktime movie, import it into iMovie8, and then share/export to a Web Gallery.
    I have imported the QT movie and it has gone into the Events window. After having searched and searched the iMovie 8 Help files, and this board, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to take that Event (my QT imported movie) and get it to a Web Gallery.
    When I click Share, everything is greyed out. Do I have to somehow get the QT movie Event into the Projects pane? If so, how??? I have a feeling that once it's up in the Projects pane I'll be able to Share. I just don't know how to get any further.
    Thanks,
    Rachel.

    Yes.
    Create a new project and drag the clip or portions of it from the events pane to the project pane and share.

  • Web gallery max out at 500 images

    Hi, I'm using LR 3.5 and when I creat a web gallery it maxes out at 500 images, even though there are 776 photos in the gallery and all 776 are selected. In fact, the image number below the preview shows 1/500 instead of 1/776. When i look at the uploaded website it also only shows 500 images. In Library mode I see all 776 images, and also in Web mode I see all 776. When I switch from Library to Web I see the "Update Web Gallery" in the top left corner of the window. It shows the progress window: "Export image fliename-001" and continues up to image 500, then stops. So it appears it is only exporting 500 images.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hopefully you appreciated I was being semi serious! Many pros would see part of their job being to whittle a big shoot down to a reasonable number to present to the client, and secondly I'd question if going through a slideshow in sequential order is the best way to review a large number of pictures - better than a grid of decent-sized thumbnails? Those are obviously judgement calls and I don't like a 500 limit being imposed.
    Now, to make your updated version survive Lightroom updates:
    Copy the Flash gallery's folder
    Paste it into Win C:\Users\john\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Web Galleries or Mac Users\john\Library\Adobe\Lightroom\Web Galleries
    In galleryinfo.lrweb, change the ID - just add your initials
    In galleryinfo.lrweb, change the title to something like "Flash Gallery (edited)"
    When you restart LR, you'll see "Flash Gallery (edited)" in the Layout Style panel
    John
