Web Gallery recommendations

I've been mainly using IVMP to make manage my photos and produce my web galleries. I've customized the output using IVMP hooks and PHP. Needless to say since I'm posting here is that I'm moving to Aperture.
The readily available options with Aperture seem to be Aperture and iWeb. Are there other options and which is most customizable? I have a regular website, so won't be using .Mac.
Summary: What are your recommendations for customizable web galleries from Aperture?

I (sometimes) use a free app called Galerie. It doesn't integrate direcly with Aperture (because developer doesn't have a mac capable of running Aperture so he can't test it), but if you first export your images, then you can bring them into Galerie and export a web album. It uses customizable templates, and has many options.

  • Recommendations for third party LR3 web gallery software

I've begun experimenting with the web gallery software in LR3 and have mixed opinions. Does anyone have recommendations/preferences for such. I've played with the SimpleViewer options and with SlideShowPro. Any views on these would be helpful. Or other sources I might have missed.
Thanks in advance for any help,

    John,
I'll add my vote for SlideShowPro for Lightroom.  At the beginning of this year when I decided to redo my website, I did a pretty exhaustive search, like you are doing, and I decided to use SSP/LR.  I am now struggling with the mobile device Flash issue.  SSP Director looks like it will be an excellent solution, but like you, I don't want to use a beta version either.
After trying a few interim solutions, I came up with the following solution/workaround.  I made an abridged selection of images from my portfolio and turned them into a video which I put on YouTube.  If a user visits my site on a non-Flash device, they will see a link which will guide them to another page into which I have embedded the YouTube video.  They do not go to YouTube.com -- I certainly didn't want that.  I tried lots of other ways to do the video and the YouTube quality is the best.  I still have work to do on the video, and it's not a perfect solution, but at least mobile users can see some of my work and don't hit a dead end on their iPad or iPhone.
Here's the link if you want to check it out:
    www.johnblausteiin.com
By the way, the support at SlideShowPro is top-notch.  The user forums are great: You post a question and you will get a reply from Todd (owner of SSP) or Tim in a very timely manner.

  • Web gallery still not working.

The web gallery feature is still non-functional. I used to use it all the time. Suddenly a few days ago I noticed that it simply does not work anymore. I highlight and event, click web gallery, it creates a web gallery in the left sidebar of iphoto. The little progress circle turns for about 15 seconds, then suddenly the web gallery from the sidebar disappears and it as if I never clicked on the web gallery button. All my old we galleries are gone. I tried deleting iphoto prefs and deleting to _gallery folder from my idisk. No luck. When I try publishing a movie in iMovie to the web gallery, everything seems to proceed correctly. It compresses and uploads. The when I click the link provided, I get Apple's version of error 404: no such website.

    Ben:
See if you can upload a file, any type will do, to the Sites folder on your iDisk via the Finder. I had a similar problem. When I tried uploading a file to the Sites folder or any of its subfolders I would get an error message. I reported it to the iWeb and .Mac feedback sites. It went away for a while and then came back that same day and then went away. Apple did get back to me and checked my account. They reported all was well. If you do get an error you may have a similar to mine but one that's not correcting itself. Report you problems to:

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Web gallery links no longer work from iWeb

I previously added links directly to my web gallery photo albums as external links in iWeb. This no longer works. For instance, I used to be able to send people to a specific web gallery album by linking to gallery.mac.com/username#xxxxxxx where xxxxxxx is the number of the album. This recently stopped working however. iWeb seems to change the # sign to %252. Anyone know what happened?

    Kurt:
FWIW here is some info I gleamed from various sites on naming sites.
    Renaming a website or webpage
You can rename a site or page at any time by double-clicking its name in the site organizer and typing the new name.
The page name appears at the top of the visitor's browser.
The site name is included in the website's address (URL):
    http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]/iWeb/[SiteName]
Renamed pages and sites (as well as the site's URL) change online the next time you publish.
IMPORTANT: If you rename a site, previously created links to your site won't work; be sure to notify your visitors, especially your blog or podcast subscribers.
Browsers convert spaces in site names to "%20." To avoid these symbols, use an underscore, hyphen, or some other character instead of a space. Also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.
Other characters aren't recommended for use in website names, including: forward and backward slashes (/ \), brackets ([ ]), tilde (~), exclamation point !, question mark (?), "at" sign (@), number sign (#), dollar sign ($), ampersand (&), asterisk (*), colon (:), equal sign (=), comma (,), and double quotation marks ("). Using these characters may result in names with strange numbers in them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Setting a password at the web gallery level

    Hi,
I would like to host multiple password-protected albums in my web gallery but don't want to require my viewers to enter a password for each album they visit. Is there some way I can set password protection at the web gallery level and make all albums accessible to those who successfully authenticate?
    thank you!

No, not with iPhoto. That can be done with iWeb. You password protect a single site and can have multiple photo pages, i.e. slideshows, in that site. The just provide the URL to the site along with the password and user name to use.
It's so easy to create the photo page/slideshow in iWeb by dragging the album of the photos you want to use into the iWeb photo page like this.

  • How to restore a Web Gallery from my backu

I noticed today that one of my Web Galleries was gone. I'm sure I didn't delete it. I entered into Time Machine while still in iPhoto '08 and stepped back in time until the missing Web Gallery showed up. Apparently it got "deleted" a few days ago but it's there in the backup. Trying to restore the web gallery attempts to restore the actual photo files which is Not what I need. I need to restore the little Gallery "playlist" thing in the Source Pane on the left.
I dug through my backups on my time machine disk and found the backed up iPhoto Library when the gallery still existed and after opening the package contents and looking through the AlbumData.xml file in Text Edit I could see that, yes, the code for my missing Web Gallery is there.
Here's my problem... How do I get that back into iPhoto???
I tried cutting and pasting the relevant code into today's current .xml file and then re-opening iPhoto. No go. In fact the code I pasted in is removed again by iPhoto.
Next I tried replacing the entire .xml file with the back up version. No go. iPhoto again removes the code for the missing Web Gallery.
    I'm at a loss.
And I'm a little worried that a web gallery can just up and go missing. And that there is no way to get it back from a backup.
    What can I do??
    -Don

    Don:
Time machine will not restore just the database file. You will have to restore the entire library. BUT you can have it keep the current library (it is renamed iPhoto Library (original). Then take the Library6.iPhoto file out of the restored library, put it in the original library (make sure you've not imported or deleted any photos since that backed up version was made) and use the original library again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. • Loosing Quality in Web Gallery

    Hello,
When I publish photos with the iPhoto to Web Gallery I noticed that the photos lose cuality, it reduces the file size and of course the quality of the picture. Only with the pictures, the videos keep the same size.
What should I do to keep the same quality of the original photo in the web gallery?
    Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's really not a lot you can do. Each photo in a web gallery is, as you found out, reduced in dimension and has some jpg compression added, about equivalent to a quality level of 7 of 12 in Photoshop, for faster file transfer and display. You could manually replace each photo in the gallery on the iDisk with a full sized version. But that would be very time consuming as each photo in a gallery has its own folder several different sizes of that same file. The large file does not carry the original file name but is named web.jpg. So you would have to rename each file web.jpg and place it in the correct folder for that web gallery. Lots of room for error.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. • Web Gallery not showing up in iPhoto

I've set up multiple albums through the web gallery feature and successfully synced them to my .mac account. The problem: one particular gallery shows up on the .mac account but not in iPhoto anymore so there is no way to manage it/add to it/delet it??

  • How to Edit Web Gallery Output from CS5?

Hello!  I just upgraded from Photoshop CS3 to CS5.  (Got some scrambling to do to catch up!)  I had been using the old File>Automate>Web Photo Gallery to create galleries for my Web site.  Massaged a little in Dreamweaver MX (I know, I know...) they look something like this:
    http://www.techno-imaging.com/gal10spring/alden_b2/index.html
I found out how to add the old Web Photo Gallery back into Photoshop CS5, but was curious to find out what Bridge CS5 would do with Output>Web Gallery.  I experimented with the Standard template and was mostly happy with the result.  Here's what I got:
    http://www.techno-imaging.com/gal10spring/alden_b2_test1/index.html
Trouble is I'd like to be able to customize the output a little more than allowed within the template itself.  It looks like the output has Flash, JavaScript, XML, HTML and maybe other programming resources.  I'm fairly familiar with HTML 3 and CSS, but am not a programmer.  Can anybody recommend what high-level editing tools (example: Microsoft Word for fancy text editing) I could use to make some modest tweaks?  The default modules are fine, but I'd at least like to be able to add a link back to my main gallery page like you see at the top right of my old Web Photo Gallery pages.
Also- are there 3rd party templates for Bridge CS5 Web Gallery?
    Thanks, - Dave

    Hi i7nvd
Oh my, I missed that completely!  Thanks very much for bringing that to my attention.  In the meantime I found that ACDSee would do a Web gallery that works OK for me.  However I will go back to Bridge Output Web Gallery this afternoon and five it a whirl.  Again, many thanks for jumping in and pointing that out to me.  I appreciate it a lot!
BTW, thanks for the link to your site built with the Bridge plug-in.  And congratulations on the wedding!

  • How do you automatically update a Web Gallery from a Smart Album?

I just installed iPhoto '08, and like the new features. I have published several Web Galleries, which are great for people who don't have Macs. I am publishing a smart album of all of the photos taken in the last month (Date is in the last 1 Month). However, when I add new photos, they show up automatically in the Smart Album, but they don't show up automatically in the Web Gallery. Is there a way to do this in iPhoto '08? Is there a way to do this with Automator? Thanks for your help.

    TeeJay6:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No you can't because the web gallery is a separate entity from the smart album. Once the gallery is created in iPhoto you have to add photos to it manually and then click on the icon to update it online.

  • Web Gallery Slide Shows:  Music and Captions an option?

The title sums up the question. Can web gallery slide shows (on my .Mac account) be made to look and sound like the slide shows i'm running in iphoto - with captions and audio?

    Mark:
You can get the captions to be displayed in the web gallery by running this script to move the description to the title field before you publish the gallery. After the gallery is published you can change the title back to the file name with the Photos->Batch Change menu option.
Have you considered using iWeb to create a photo page/slideshow and add the music to it. Here's a test page of such a setup. Be sure to read all of the comments on the linked page as there's a minor error noted in the script that is easy to correct.

  • Web Gallery Posting from Different iPhoto 7.0.1 Libraries

I use the program iPhoto Library Manager so that I can have more than one iPhoto library -- one for cooking, one for the garden, one for a travel trip, etc.
I've posted a couple galleries using the "Web Gallery" feature from my cooking iPhoto library. Works fine: both galleries show up on the first page.
Do I understand correctly that if I posted a gallery from, say, the garden iPhoto library, that it would try to synchronize the galleries at dot mac with those in the currently open iPhoto library (garden) and, because the first two galleries were in the cooking library, it would probably delete them?

    mbabc:
No, I don't think that would happen. I've posted two galleries, each from a different library. When I posted the second it did not delete the first. It just added the second to the gallery in my .Mac account.

  • Web Gallery pictures after deletion still in Finder

    Hello....
I create a web gallery on MobileMe using iPhoto '08 and had it allow others to upload the pictures to the gallery using web interface.
Now, when someone uploads the pictures they appear in the iPhoto the next time it syncs. However, if I delete the picture from the Web Gallery it disappears from iPhoto BUT the picture can still be found in the Finder under the iPhoto package in Pictures directory. I mean the picture do not get deleted from the iPhoto package in Finder when they are deleted from Web Gallery.
How the picture should be deleted from Web gallery so it gets deleted from the Finder as well? I mean it is difficult to trace the pictures and delete manually in Finder.
One other question I have is if someone uploads the picture and it appears in iPhoto under Web Gallery and I want to move this picture to my library so to keep along with my other pictures how should I do it?
    Thanks.

    Atique:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you just selected the photo and hit the Delete key the photo will only be deleted from the gallery and not the library. You need to use the CommandOptionDelete key combination to move the photo out of the web gallery and into the iPhoto trash bin. Then empty the trash bin via the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu option. That will delete the photo from your library and your HD.

  • Web Gallery vs. iWeb?

I'm not sure I understand the difference between the Web Gallery and iWeb. You can add galleries on both?
How do you remove a gallery from the Web Gallery after you install it? I was trying to install multiple galleries by doing the shift click then figured out iPhoto was combining all the galleries into one. I aborted and it said it was deleting it off the WG. It did not. The pics it did upload are there and I can't figure out how to delete.

    AtlantaRoyce:
Web Galleries from iPhoto differ from iWeb photo galleries in that the iPhoto galleries are run from software on Apple's servers (you only upload four versions of each photo and the server side software does the rest. With an iWeb photo gallery you have design control over how that gallery will look, comments under the thumbnails and that gallery may be part of a greater site with other pages. Then the photos and other supporting files are uploaded to be combined into an HTML based web page. The iPhoto gallery is java driven I believe.
All iPhoto galleries are part of one gallery. To delete an iPhoto gallery you delete the web gallery in the iPhoto library. The photos will be deleted from the iDisk and no longer show in your gallery.
The iPhoto one is much easier and quicker to create but can only be the one style. With the iWeb variety you can change the background, add music to the site. The two slideshows are different also.

  • Issue Updating Photo Names in Web Gallery

There is a sync issue with Web Galleries when the photo name is updated in iPhoto while another update is occurring simultaneously. The changes made in iPhoto are lost.
The 7.0.2 Update does not fix this issue.
It seems there should be the option to "update now" and make the web gallery look just like the iPhoto version.
    Anyone else have this issue?

    pschlampp:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The syncing works correctly for me. Try clearing out the iPhoto Cache folders that are in your User/Library/Caches folder and delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist that's in the User/Library/Preferences folder. See if that will let you update titles as intended.
