Web Intelligence Sub Class Objects

Hi Experts,
By default, what data does the sub class object (blue object) display in a web intelligence document? Is it key, description etc. and is it possible to control what detailed object it displays as default. I know how to get the key and description from the detailed objects (green), but want to know what data the main object displays by default.
I am asking because we've created a large web intelligence document with lots of formulas that contain [L03 Profit Center] = " [key]". The users want to maintain the hierarchy text, which if the objects display text as default will break our formula and cause lots of work to correct with the new [L03 Profit Center Key] object.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I am not sure but I guess it depends on the Info-object setting at the BW level because I have seen both Descriptions and Key
values being displayed from the Dimension (blue object).
How-ever, you can change the definition of the object at the universe level and get the required value.
Just check if you are getting the required values by default. If you are not getting the required value then just copy the Select
clause of the L03 Profit Center Key and paste it in the Select clause of L03 Profit Center.
Changing the definition of the object will save all your rework.

Rohit

  • Sub-class objects changing lovu2019s in XI 3.0

    Hello all,
    I have a XI 3.0 universe where I have several classes and sub-classes like this;
    Class1
    ....Subclass1
    .............Object 1
    .............Object 2
    .............Object 3
    ....Subclass2
    .............Object 4
    .............Object 5
    .............Object 6
    ...Subclass3
    .............Object 7
    .............Object 8
    .............Object 9
    Class2
    ....Subclass1b
    .............Object 10
    .............Object 11
    .............Object 12
    While updating the objects lovu2019s (for sorting) in the properties window, Iu2019ve noticed that beginning with Object 4 that the lovu2019s are changing back to that of Object 1, this is also the case for Object 5 (changes to Object 2u2019s lov) all the way through Object 12. It seems that no mater how often I set and apply the sorted lov for all objects, they take on the settings of the objects in the first sub-class in my universe. When querys are ran from WebIntelligence, they display the correct SQL (and return no results as there is no data in my dev database as yet). Objects in other classes (not sub-classes) seem to be fine. Has anyone seen this type of behavior before?
    Iu2019m thinking that I will need to go to 3.1 and suspect this may be a bug, any thoughts or comments are appreciated....

    Hi Didier,
    I did copy some some of the objects from a subclass to another, and to make sure this was not the issue, I re-created new ones and had the same issue.  I was not aware that previous BOE versions (LOVs) had the issue though, which makes some sense.
    At the moment, I'm suspecting this is a bug so I am asking the client to upgrade to 3.1 to see if the issue persist (I suspect it may), if so I will then open up a tech support case.
    Thanks, Joe Szabo

  • Query Stripping in Web Intelligence

    Hi,
    I am unable to see Query Stripping option.
    Is it only available for particular database?
    What is the use of this?
    Please let me know?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Manjunath N. Jogin

    Query Stripping enables you to optimize the query generation automatically.
    It improves the performance of the report by sending the stripped query to the connection server.
    Each time you refresh a query, Web Intelligence strips the objects which areb not contributing to the report (directly or indirectly) from the report as well as from the SQL Viewer tab. It refreshes only the query that is directly related to the report.
    You can get Enable Query Stripping in the Query property.
    At the document level , select Enable Query Stripping in the Document Properties tab.
    u2022 Query Stripping is applicable only for OLAP database users.
    u2022 In a Query Stripping enabled document, if a query filter is used on a Measure object, Web Intelligence does not strip the objects.

    Hi,
    I am calculating OTD SLA metrics using the Business Object Web Intelligence, but I am stuck with the WorkDay() how to use this in BO, as it is available in Excel.  Requirement is that I need to add business days (Saturdays and Sundays should not be considered) to a particular date. Greatly appreciate if some one can help me immediately as this is high priority right now and need to complete it <REMOVED_BY_MODERATOR>. Thank you, Shiv.   Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for trying to reply.
    What exactly I need is that:
    Example:
    11/19/2010  +  3  this should give me the date 11/24/2010 which is actually  excluding Sat and Sun and adding only the business days to the date.

  • Error when using defined object in Universe in Web Intelligence

    Hi all
    I create universe connect from Infocube
    I create a new Object named "Sale Value" to get YTD of Object name "SS Total value of the invoice lin" with code following
    <EXPRESSION>SUM(YTD(@Select(Key Figures\SS Total value of the invoice line)))</EXPRESSION>
    I parse to check systax "OK".
    But when I run query and using above defined object in Web Intelligence, I get error following

    I check MDX PARSER connection in SM59 sucessfull
    I am beginer of Universe and Web Intelligence, please help me solve this problem.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    The MDX parser in the universe designer just check the XML Tags or Syntax. It does not validate the expression.
    The YTD, QTD, MTD functions in the universe designer requires a reference to a predefined time chararcteristics eg. 0CALMONTH etc. So the correct expression would be similar to the below expression:
    <EXPRESSION> SUM(YTD([0CALMONTH].CurrentMember), @Select(Key Figures\SS Total value of the invoice line))</EXPRESSION>
    Also you need to add the time characteristics in the result set.

  • Can we interchange the Axis objects in web intelligence.

    Hi, All.
    I have a report,  in that Bar chart has Dimension and Measure objects.. I would like to interchange dimensions. Is it possible in Web Intelligence?
    Thanks in  Advance...
    Arjun.

    Hi Arjun,
    You can achieve it with Input controls Custom value property .
    Let's say you have month , week and sales.
    You want to change the month and week in chart.
    1.create a variable with default value
    Choose Dimension
    Month (don't put =Month, it'll give error)
    Place this in input control, in Custom values , enter value Week
    Create another variable
    =If([Choose Dimension]="Month";[Month];If([Choose Dimension]="Week";[Week]))
    use this variable in charts.
    change your selections with Input control.

  • Instantiation of similar object over a super class deciding the sub class

    Hello all
    First, sorry if I'm duplicating an already answered question. I didn't searched very deep.
    Initial position:
    I have 2 Object (A1 and A2) which share the most (about 90%) of their instance variables an the associated methods. The values of the instance variables are retrieved in the real implementation from a stream. Depending of the data of the stream, I have to instantiate either a A1 or A2 object.
    A test implementation (using an int in case of the stream):
    The super class A:
    package aaa;
    public class A
      protected int version = -1;
      protected String name = null;
      protected AE ae = null;
      protected A()
      protected A(int v)
        // Pseudo code
        if (v > 7)
          return;
        if (v % 2 == 1)
          this.version = 1;
        else
          this.version = 2;
      public final int getVersion()
        return this.version;
      public final String getName()
        return this.name;
      public final AE getAE()
        return this.ae;
    }The first sub class A1:
    package aaa;
    public final class A1 extends A
      protected A1(int v)
        this.version = v;
        this.name = "A" + v;
        this.ae = new AE(v);
    }The second subclass A2:
    package aaa;
    import java.util.Date;
    public final class A2 extends A
      private long time = -1;
      protected A2(int v)
        this.version = v;
        this.name = "A" + v;
        this.time = new Date().getTime();
        this.ae = new AE(v);
      public final long getTime()
        return this.time;
    }Another class AE:
    package aaa;
    public class AE
      protected int type = -1;
      protected AE(int v)
        // Pseudo code
        if (v % 2 == 1)
          this.type = 0;
        else
          this.type = 3;
      public final int getType()
        return this.type;
    }To get a specific object, I use this class:
    package aaa;
    public final class AFactory
      public AFactory()
      public final Object createA(int p)
        A a = new A(p);
        int v = a.getVersion();
        switch (v)
        case 1:
          return new A1(v);
        case 2:
          return new A2(v);
        default:
          return null;
    }And at least, a class using this objects:
    import aaa.*;
    public final class R
      public static void main(String[] args)
        AFactory f = new AFactory();
        Object o = null;
        for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
          System.out.println("===== Current Number is " + i + " =====");
          o = f.createA(i);
          if (o instanceof aaa.A)
            A a = (A) o;
            System.out.println("Class   : " + a.getClass().getName());
            System.out.println("Version : " + a.getVersion());
            System.out.println("Name    : " + a.getName());
            System.out.println("AE-Type : " + a.getAE().getType());
          if (o instanceof aaa.A2)
            A2 a = (A2) o;
            System.out.println("Time    : " + a.getTime());
          System.out.println();
    Questions:
    What would be a better way to encapsulate the logic into their respective objects ? Is there a way to let the super class A itself identify the type of the object and then extend from A to either A1 or A2 ?
    Thanks in advance
    Andreas

    Hello jduprez
    First, I would thank you very much for taking the time reviewing my problem.
    Just for the record: have you considered regular serialization? If you control the software at both ends of the stream, you could rely on standard serialization mechanism to marshall the objects and unmarshall them automatically.In my case, I can't control the other site of the stream. At the end, the data comes from a FileInputStream and there aren't objects on the other site, only pur binary data.
    - It seems you have one such factory class. Then you already have encapsulated the "determine class" logic, you don't need to add such logic in superclass A.I thought from an OO view, that the super class A is responsible of doing that, but that's where the problem starts. So at the end, it's better doing it in the factory class.
    - A itself encapsulates the logic to load its own values from the stream.
    - A1 and A2 can encapsulate the logic to load their own specific value from a stream (after the superclass' code has loaded the superclass' attributes values).
    My advise would be along the lines of:
    public class A {
    .... // member variables
    public void load(InputStream is) {
    ... // assign values to A's member variables
    // from what is read from the stream.
    public class A1 extends A {
    ... // A1-specific member variables
    public void load(InputStream is) {
    super.load(is);
    // now read A1-specific values
    public class AFactory {
    public A createA(InputStream is) {
    A instance;
    switch (is.readFirstByte()) {
    case A1_ID:
    a = new A1();
    break;
    case A2_ID:
    a = new A2();
    break;
    a.load(is);
    }The example above assumes you have control over the layout of the data in the stream (here for a given A instance, the attributes defined in A are read first, then come the subclass-specific attributes.
    The outcome is: you don't have to create a new A( ) to later create another instance, of a subclass.I like the idea. In the AFactory, is the "A instance;" read as "A a;" ?
    Is there a way to let the super class A itself identify the type of the object and then extend from A to either A1 or A2 ?Note I initially read this question as "can an instance of a class mutate into another class", to which the answer is no (an object has one single, immutable class; it is an instance of this class, and of any superclass and superinterface, but won't change its class at runtime).Yes, I have been thinking about a way for mutating into a subclass to keep the already initialized values from the A class without copying or parsing again. But preventing an instance of an A class will be my way. So, in this aspect, Java didn't changed in the last 10 years... It's a long time ago I've used Java for some real projects.
    You can, however, create an instance of another class, that copies the values off a priori A instance. Your example code was one way, another way could be to have a "copy constructor":
    public class A {
    public A(A model) {
    this.att1 = model.att1;
    this.att2 = model.att2;
    public class A1 {
    public A1(A model) {
    super(model);
    ... // do whatever A1-specific business
    )Still, I prefer my former solution less disturbing: I find the temporary A instance redundant and awkward.Nice to know. I prefer the first solution too.
    Thank you again for the help and advices. My mind is searching sometimes for strange solutions, where the real is so close ;-)

  • How to use LOV on a derived table dependent on a prompt for Webi web intelligence view.

    The semantic layer has not created a defined LOV for the derived table.   This only happens when pulling columns from derived table which depends on a prompt for unique selection.  When pulling from derived table that does not depend on a date prompt does not have an issue in Webi.
    I don't know if this is a universe design issue or WEBI.
    Webi Rich internet application   selects the date prompt first but if click on Storeno in List it returns a LOV with auto refresh.
    Webi Web Intelligence returns  List of Values for current prompt requires values for following prompts:   and when you click to refresh  webi responds with 'undefined'

    Hi…
    Can you check Prompt : Store No is created at universe level and defined the syntax correctly
    @Prompt(1,2,3,4,5)  insert a prompts in SQL. When the user runs the query, the user is prompted to enter a value for a refresh each time.
    1 = 'Prompt Text Message'
    2 = 'Prompt Type'  (i.e. A,N,D,U)
    where A= Character, N= Number, D= Date, U= Unit.
    3 = 'Class Name/ Object Name'
    4 = 'Multi/ Mono'
    Multi means Multiple ( Example = 2004,2005,2011)
    Mono means Single ( Example = 2012)
    5 = Free/Constrain (Type value or select value in LOV/ Select Value)
    Example for creating a @prompt filter is below
    @Prompt('enter year','A','time period/year', Multi', Free)
    Pointer to a “List of Values” from an existing universe object. You invoke the target list of values by double-clicking on the object contain ing the list of values that you want to use in the "Classes and Objects" panel. This gives the Class name and the Object name, separate ed by a backslash. It must be enclosed in single quotes. For example: 'Client\Country'. When you are using “Index Awareness”, and you want to return the key values for an object,set the 5th value to primary_key
    • Hard-coded list of single values or value pairs. The values in a pair are separated by a colon. Each value is enclosed in single quotes. The pairs of values are separated by a comma. The whole list is enclosed in curly brackets. Set the constraint to primary_key

  • Error in Web Intelligence Rich Client Test

    I am taking the SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.0/3.1: Universe Design course online.  Following the steps in the exercise on creating classes and objects, I received an error when testing the objects in Web Intelligence Rich Client.  I created a Client Name dimrension using the format CLIENT.CLIENT_LASTNAME + ", "+CLIENT.CLIENT_FIRSTNAME in Universe Designer.  When testing I came up with an error, WIS 00011
    The Object(s): Client Name contain multiple attributes.  This syntax is no longer supported in this version.  See your Business Objects Administrator.
    I followed the instructions in the exercise.  Does anyone know what I did wrong?

    When you write a select statement the different columns are separated by a comma, as this:
    select a, b, c from table
    BusinessObjects doesn't like to see that syntax (multiple columns) in a single object, so they look for a comma. It appears that in the version you are using they have broken the parsing process, and they don't realize that your comma is inside quotes and that you're not really using multiple columns.
    You can fix this by using a function to return a comma character. If you are using MS Access, that function would be Chr(). The comma character is number 44, so you could try this:
    CLIENT.CLIENT_LASTNAME + " " + Chr(44) + " " +CLIENT.CLIENT_FIRSTNAME
    But you should know that the syntax you have works fine most of the time.

  • Infoview new web intelligence document problem

    I select a universe. Then the Data tab shows the universe. The universe is displayed just like I see it in Designer. I drag a class to the 'Result Objects' pane. I click 'Run Query'. I get a 'Web Intelligence' popup with the message 'Some objects are no longer available in the universe...' If I drag the individual objects, I get the same error. The universe contains 2 classes. The other class does not give any errors. Has anyone seen this bahavior?
    Bill

    Integrity Check showed errors. I fixed all but 2 of them. That was sufficient to fix the original problem.
    I do have a question about the Integrity Check Results. The universe consists of 2 tables (views, actually). They are not connected by any joins. The Integrity Check Results says both are 'not linked th anything'. Is that related to the absence of joins? Or is it something else?

  • Refresh of Data in Xcelsius from Web Intelligence Results

    Hello,
    I am new to the forum but not to Business Objects/Xcelsius.  I attended the SAP Sapphire Event last May and spent time in the Business Objects lab.  Two Product Managers demonstrated how I would be able to refresh the data in an Xcelsius dashboard using Live Office by retreiving results from a Webi document without refreshing the Webi query.
    For example, my Webi document contains 100,000 result rows.  I want to be able to select a dropdown in my dashboard and have Live Office retreive only a subset of the 100,000 rows.  This being done without having the Webi query being refreshed from the database.  The Webi query would be refreshed nightly.
    The Product Managers advised that this functionality would be available in Service Pack 3 or before.  As of now I cannot find out how to make this work.  Any help or information would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello Charles,
    WebIntelligence Input Controls are a way to enhance and customize user experience with report filters, they are therefore based on report filters and the feature is more focused on user interface & experience rather than exposition outside web intelligence.
    Anyway, AFAIK, report filters are not available from Live Office report parts, you can only filter content with prompts, which requires the document to be refresh from the database, which has a direct impact on performance and scalability for consumers.
    However, if you are with WebIntelligence XI 3.1 SP2 you have the alternative to publish from WebI Rich Client, report elements (any table or chart) as web services (called BI Services).
    This tool is based on Qaaws technology, and share some of its features (main being that is uses the same Xcelsius Data Manager connection), it exposes a large part of WebI interactions to external consumers (esp. Xcelsius) : report filters, drill, prompts.
    Besides this tool provides a set of call input parameters to tune web service consumption for best performance and scalability, enabling to leverage WebI document management features like scehduling, publishing and refresh, so consumers can balance performance with real-time data.
    More information is available from WebIntelligence Rich Client user documentation from section sharing webi content with other web applications.
    I recommend you install the latest fix pack (SP2.5 and above), as some initial fixes were required to ensure full compatibility with Xcelsius.
    Hope that helps,
    David.

  • Web Intelligence Report + BI 7.0 Analysis Authorizations

    Hello Experts,
    I have created a report on a universe based in a SAP BW InfoCube that contains an authorization relevant InfoObject (Company Code).
    BW Analysis authorization have been set up for this cube in such way that the user should have access only to data containing one of the two values of Company Code (lets say for example that the user can access value "A").
    It seems to be working fine when testing them via a BEx Query or via rsecadmin (rsrt with detailed analysis authorization logs). When the test user tries to view the full contents of the specific cube gets an "access denied" message (this is normal), whereas if the user runs a report with a filter "A" on Company Code the report returns the results as it should have. So far so good.
    For testing use within Web Intelligence, I have created the following Single Sign On (SSO) universes: a)directly on the cube, b)via a "select all" query and finally c)via a filtered query (filtering the exact allowed values of analysis authorization of the test user). All of the above have unfortunately the exact same issues:
    When a test user with limited analysis authorization (i.e. a user that can only access value "A" of Company Code) tries to view a report on either of these universes, then the result is the following message when trying to execute the query "A database error occured. The database error text is: Error loading cube MyCube/MyQuery (catalog MyCube): Unknown error. (WIS 10901)"
    I have tried several settings on the universe (like filter working on LoV as well) but none helped.
    If we replace the user's analysis authorizations with full access on company code (values "A" and "B") the query runs as it should have.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards
    Giorgos

    Hi,
    has the Universe been created on the cube level or on the query level ?
    In case it is on the cube level it will fail because :
    Analysis authorizations are not based on authorization objects. Instead, you create authorizations that include a group of characteristics. You restrict the values for these characteristics.
    The authorizations can include any authorization-relevant characteristics, and treat single values, intervals, and hierarchy authorizations in the same way. Navigation attributes can also be flagged as authorization-relevant in the attribute maintenance for characteristics and can be added to authorizations as separate characteristics.
    You can then assign this authorization to one or more users.
    All characteristics flagged as authorization-relevant are checked when a query is executed.
    *A query always selects a set of data from the database. If authorization-relevant characteristics are part of this data, you have to make sure that the user who is executing the query has sufficient authorization for the complete selection. Otherwise, an error message is displayed indicating that the authorization is not sufficient. In principle, the authorizations do not work as filters. Very restricted exceptions to this rule are hierarchies in the drilldown and variables that are filled depending on authorizations. Hierarchies are mostly restricted to the authorized nodes, and variables that are filled depending on authorizations act like filters for the authorized values for the particular characteristic*
